Emporium Eatery & Bar - Restaurant in Napier, New Zealand
Had terrible service from the young man on Sunday afternoon. He needs to work on his customer service and how he talks to people. Cancelled meal plans here after this and went next door, great service from Lonestar.
We visited the emporium cafe/bar 3 years ago, this time unfortunately was not as good. The good ;the food was tasty, hot and reasonably well presented (although there was only two ingredients on the plate, it would be hard to get wrong.)The bad; we had witnessed a waitress with very poor customer service skills and it was plain to see she didn’t want to be at work or she had a problem with maintaining a expectation level of friendliness. I pretty sure her name was storm , she had served us the day before for cocktails with a very dower face couldn’t crack a smile nor could she make you feel welcome. This has to be a bare minimum when dealing with customers in a environment like yours. When we returned the next night for dinner we were served by multiple staff and her once more when she arrived with the wine her face said it all the look of misery and slammed the wine down on the table and didn’t even apologise. Very poor.We were served by a very helpful girl with long brown hair and she said that you were under staffed and there would be a wait for food and there was no pizza which I can only assume that you didn’t have anybody to cook it .Last time we dined in the quieter room behind the the bar area which was nice but unfortunately we were told that you were unable to service that area because of the lack of staff. Shame because where we was seated was very loud. After a long wait for our meal we were left feeling dissatisfied and disappointed with the emporium it seems like many things have changed since last time we were there including the menu which was very basic.Ask yourself this would you come back ?Also notice how the owners only respond to good reviews!
Emporium eatery and bar has gone from being our number one place to I doubt we would eat there again. Not only has the menu changed and is not as extensive, but more importantly, the quality of the food has dropped even further. My sisters both had the Guinness pie with mashed potato and gravy. Theyve eaten this at many places throughout the country and it was the poorest they had ever had. A lot of pastry, very little meat, and it was very salty. It came with a small bowl on the side consisting of a tiny amount of mashed potato surrounded in masses of gravy. My spaghetti dish was very tasty. However, later that night I was sick. It may have been coincidence, or something else. Im not sure. My brother in law had a burger (I cant comment on that as I dont know). My mother had wedges, which were nice. Weve been there several times in the past in large groups and smaller groups and couldnt fault it - it was our go to place but sadly no longer. Napier is blessed with many nice restaurants so Im sure we wont go hungry.
The bar and bar staff at Emporium are undoubtedly 5-star quality, so I highly recommend going for drinks - skip the food though, it is mediocre at best. Im no cook but feel pretty confident I could have done better. The kitchen is a big let down from the professionalism and quality of the bar!
My partner and I went here and were so disappointed, after reading the reviews we wished we had an experience like them. After waiting almost 1 hour we received our meals and it was not worth the wait, mine was cold and chewy and my partners one was over cooked. After spending $84.00 here I would have rather gone to mc Donalds for a quarter of the price. Would have liked my money back or at least the price of the meal refunded
Decent feed and great service. Decided to go out for a meal on NYE. Had lamb and pork meatballs / steak, fries and salad. Food cooked perfectly and service was impressive.
1/1/22 - We had a dinner reservation for two, upon arrival we were informed there were a considerable amount of items from the menu which were unavailable. When requesting to be seated outside we were told this is not possible, the same moment a table was given to a walk-in and then two more became available, we left at this point.
Great dinner out, delicious cocktails and dessert! Lovely ambience and friendly, professional staff. Will be back
Superb service. We went in for a quick cocktail around 5:00pm. Cocktails were nice thanks.Service was unreal; the waiter/barman who took our order discovered we were tourists. Without any prompting he wrote down a list of “must see” places. This guy is a credit to your business and a great Napier advocate. Thanks very much! We’ll be back!
Wow, fabulous food it was so well cooked, presented beautifully and tasty, service was gold standard and the restaurant is a lovely place to eat and enjoy meals with friends. We will be going back for more fabulous food. Many thanks to the team at Emporium Napier
Me and my partner have now gone to Emporium twice. On both occasions the food had been delicious, along with the drinks and the customer service exceptional. Would highly recommend coming to Emporium.
A 50 minute wait to get an overcooked steak full of gristle.Meal returned to kitchen after a few mouthfuls. I was still expected to pay full price as they told me I had eaten 80% of the meal. Disappointed with staffs bad attitude. NOT RECOMMENDED!
We had a great evening! Lovely atmosphere, friendly service and delicious food. All at a very reasonable price for the quality! Will definitely return…
Good cocktails and beautiful bar, ashame to see last call at 9.30pm on a Saturday night and getting kicked out by 10pm. A bar like this should be open to 2am Friday and Saturday. Def missing out on a huge side of the market emporium.
Ordered our meals 20 minute wait with no one telling us. Fish and Chips $27 couldnt be eaten apart from one piece of fish that was very wet and tasteless. I had concerns as there was a very strong smell of fish from the kitchen . Went to pay, should of said something charged $29. Queried the price the man said, no $29.!!! Mine some of the pumpkin was quite burnt on the pizza and couldnt be eaten
Had a beautiful meal last night which was the shared lamb. The lamb was cooked to perfection and plenty enough for 2, although we felt that there could have been a few more roast vegies to go with it. Service was great also. Will definitely recommend to others and will visit again
Wonderful evening, from the cocktails to mains..great staff and wonderful atmosphere!
We hadnt been here for a while and boy was it amazing. Friendly welcoming staff and exceptional food. Parfait was divine, pork belly 🐖 was perfect and burnt orange 🍊 dessert was incredible. We will be back very soon.
My husband and I have eaten here before so whilst in Napier, thought we would pop in for something to eat. Walked in and were told to sit down and they would be straight over to take our order. No menus, water or service was given to us. We were completely ignored, sitting at our table for about 10 mins, yet they were serving every other person that came to the bar. We walked out and will never go there again. Absolutely terrible customer service.
The staff were really welcoming and helpful. Service with a smile. We were taken good care of and will recommend this place to others. Love this stunning gem. Great place to relax and enjoy your meal/drinks.
We were looking for a more casual dinner tonight, so came across The Emporium, a gastro pub/restaurant right at the start of Marine Parade. The food was delicious, I had the beef croquette, which was recommended by our waitress Lucy and she recommended the side of carrots, both great flavoursome dishes. My wife had fish and chips, which was better than what I had for lunch, at another establishment.Lucy then recommended desert, now, Saras orange desert is just WOW 10/10Well done you guys for providing great service and food.Highly recommended.
Just had dinner there and it was fab! Decor is gorgeous, staff were fantastic and we both got the steak and it was delicious! It’s not cheap but think it’s totally worth it. Will definitely be returning.
Fantastic atmosphere especially during Art Deco Festival. Lovely staff and yummy cocktails... My fav the caramel apple mule🥰
Great atmosphere. Excellent food. We dined in the main dining area away from bar. Sumptuous setting, good service and particularly good high quality food. Highly recommend.
Great place to have champagne brunch on Sundays. I love the atmosphere and the art deco style which is typically shown off here as well as the rest of central Napier. The food is excellent (salmon bene with eggs benedictand coffee up to standards as one can expect in New Zealand.
We enjoyed many drinks and small bites served by friendly staff, all of whom seem to be on work holiday and fun to talk with.
Napier is known to show off its vintage art and this restaurant lives up to its standards! Beautiful decor and the food was amazing. The 12 hour slow cooked lamb and fish & chips was delish!
Great place to get a drink and a bite to eat. Very nice and friendly staff. Would go back anytime!
Disappointed. Ambience and interior is great. Staff and service was good and attentive but was let down by the food. Pretty basic standard bistro fare for pricing. Singaporean Crispy Pork Belly although flavoursome was a tad dry and NOT crispy!! Squid was nothing to rave about. Nothing on main options grabbed me.Great place to meet for summer drink but Id prefer to pay few dollars more and receive better dining experience elsewhere.
Food is consistently great here. A really good selection on the menu. Service great and the range of cocktails and wine list is superb. We booked on line requiring a late sitting as the rugby finished at 9.15pm and we had to walk from the ground to the city. Our table was ready and we were served promptly.
I enjoyed a lovely afternoon with my mother and son for lunch. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was quite pleasant. The food was yummy. I really enjoyed this prawn dumpling. Definitely glad we ordered 4 dishes to share as the portions were on the smaller side. Over all a yummy nice day out for lunch.
Very friendly and helpful staff - probably one of the best steaks I have had in years. Many thanks to everyone at the Emporium - just arrived from Sydney and was made to feel like a local 🙏
The tumeric Manuka smoked penicillin is a must have. The olives are exceptional too. Shrimp was soft and fresh, great home dip too. Service excellent - they take good care and suggestions are on point. Would visit again with friends or alone.
We enjoyed the food here, especially the pizza with salami and confit cherry tomatos. The popcorn shrimp had a good bite to it, and the kimchi mayo was a perfect complement.Fried bak choy was surprisingly good, surpassing our expectations as it was served in a bar restaurant.Service was acceptable. Took almost 5 mins for us to be seated, despite the restaurant not being too busy. Staff were very friendly though, which made the dining experience quite pleasant.
Lovely place with classic decor and friendly crews. Food was great as well! Definitely worth to come-by at the afternoon.
Its a beautiful place and not to mention amazing view of the ocean. Its apparently the oldest cafe of Napier, it definitely does have the decor for it. Has lot of breakfast/ brunch options. People are helpful and accommodate vegetarians. Would definitely recommend it.
Great Food, Great place. Great Staff. The Food is as Great as it sounds on the menu. The drinks menu is another great adventure. The only thing is (just being pickypaper napkins are ok for fast food but in a really good restaurant ... No.
The beef Wellington and Belgian choc mousse was exceptional. Come in early as it can get quite busy from 7:30pm.
Awesome Art Deco interior. Amazing decor. Separate Lounge area. Must do visit. Grab a Coffee, drink or snack or meal. Highly Recommended.
Great decor, good wine and beer, fine food. Well worth a visit.
Really cool atmosphere! It’s like going back in time! Delicious food!!! Lamb and fish were very sensational! I really recommend this place!
Wonderful wedding venue, great food and attentive staff. Special dietary requirements were catered to with no drama and special meals were amazing. Breakfast following morning was also amazing. Great coffee and staff again were very attentive. Family members who stayed at Masonic for multiple nights had great service throughout their stays.
Ive mauled the dish but the time I stopped to take a pic but great eggs good coffee. Great spot with the art deco restaurant/bar a lot of work has been done in here, warm and comfortable.
Only stopped of for some drinks but food looked good too and has a nice atmosphere
Service was very quick and friendly here. The atmosphere was casual and inviting. We had the waffles, pulled pork rolls, with a side of pork sausages, potato hash, and croissant. The waffles were fluffy and delicious, with the right amount of lemon to not be overpowering. The pork rolls were off the charts tasty. The combination of BBQ sauce, hollandaise, and egg yolk was tangy, tasty, and velvetty smooth. The pork sausages were tasty, and reasonably priced. The potato hash was not quite a hash in my opinion, but was still tasty.
Came here for a pre-dinner cocktail with my girlfriends on my birthday. I had the Old Cuba, which was delicious. The decor and ambience is fabulous, lots of charm; exactly what you would expect in Napier. Drinks are pricey, but thats NZ for you. At least it was a well made drink.
Excellent service and all round experience. The goats cheese tart was a stand out for me, and the red curry sauce (with chicken, rice and bok choywas one of the best Ive had.
Stopped in for a late lunch on our way through to Rotorua, received fast service and my smoked salmon was delicious and excellently presented. Venue suited the overall art deco look that Napier has become known for. Will visit again next time Im on the east coast.
Had the BBQ Pulled pork breakfast roll. It was awesome. Staff were friendly and the menu had plenty of options that I would like to go back and try. Reasonably priced also.
Great food (taste, plating, etcand great ambience.
