The current emir is Aminu Ado Bayero, His father Ado Bayero became the emir in 1963, reigning for 50 years until his death in 2014; he oversaw the transformation of the Emirate under Nigerias federal constitution that subjects Northern Nigerias Emirates to political leaders. The emir of Kano serves as the leader of the Tijaniyya sufi order in Nigeria, historically the second most important Muslim position in Nigeria after the Sultan of Sokoto who is the leader of the more populous Qadiriyya sufi order in Nigeria.

This the centre of traditional authority dating over a thousand years. It has traditional architecture and other structures built a long time ago. There are other beautiful buildings and structures that were an integral part of the palace. Should be an interesting place to visit by any tourists.

MoreThe Gidan Rumfa, sometimes called the Gidan Sarki ("Emirs house"),[1] is the palace of the Emir of Kano. Located in the city of Kano, Kano State, Nigeria, it was constructed by Muhammad Rumfa in the late 15th century.[2] Since the reign of Rumfa, it has continuously been the residence of the traditional authority in Kano and was retained by the Fulani jihadists who took over traditional authority in Kano in the early 19th century.[3] It currently has an area of 33 acres (130,000 m2).[2] Gidan Rumfa was built in the late 15th century on the outskirts of the town of Kano. The new building extended the reach of the town and also led to the establishment of the Kurmi market. The palace overs a space of about 33 acres and is built on opens plains; it surrounded by walls that are up to 15 feet high.[4] The structure is rectangular in shape and its landscape ecology can be divided into three classifications: open spaces, gardens and living quarters/built up areas. Structures within the living quarters and built up areas include the Kofar Kudu or Southern gate, offices, mosque, Soron ingila (English hall), royal courtrooms, a primary and secondary school and living quarters.
MoreIts a large monument which was built to house the Emir. It is free to enter but you will need to talk to the security (by tipping themto allow you into the palace area.
MoreIt was very nice, weve seen alot of ancient history regarding the palace!
The most striking example of Kanos traditional Hausa architecture, the Emirs Palace is accessible only to those invited by the Emir, but its sheer majesty makes it worth a sightseeing visit.
MoreVery historic and cultural, there are days when the Emir/Sarkin is not in the palace. Those days, youd have to get entrance permission from the Emirate council local government or something, then youll be guided by someone from the council inside the chambers. Youd need to settle the security palace guards with some money and the price is relative to how much you negotiate.
MoreModern architecture defines this palace. His Royal Highness SLS did a supa great work in tha its transformation
MoreRecording not allowed within the premises. It was amazing to experience the awesomeness of the Palace. It is a vortex of compounds, buildings, courtyards and mazes. Open to the public for prayers on Friday. Youll need to take off footwear at certain sections within the premises
