Ellenborough Reserve in Kempsey
Description
Privilege
Top spot.
Great spot first time I’ve been in can see it’s very popular with caravanners and actual campers just pulled in for lunch break well worth going down walking along the river.
MoreGreat little free campground.
Nice peaceful spot with a clean toilet block
Its a bit boggy at the moment for camping. There are a couple of permanent campsites there but plenty of space to be away from them.
MoreFabulous freecamp. Lots if room and nice and level for vans and motorhomes
Normally a great stopover spot, but not being maintained very well......dont know why???
MoreGreat, free, pet friendly campground with drop toilets and phone reception. Caretakers clean the loos every Tuesday and Friday so theyre normally pretty clean (as clean as drop loos can beand the grass is mown regularly. The bank down at the river has completely changed since the floods came through and the riverside is a little silty, nothing that cant be overcome with a pair of river shoes.
MoreNice park with river frontage.covered picnic tables and basic toilets.Let down by homeless people living there.
MoreWould have been lovely but was more crowded than we like. The covid no camping signs were still up but we and the campers believe camping is now permitted. No QR signs which would be helpful if freecamping is permitted.
MoreBeautiful camp ground, says no camping due to restrictions however loads of campers, obviously as there are no restrictions.lovely running river, pets are welcome.Designated fire pits but bring your own fire wood there are lots of trees that have fallen down by the lake which wpuld be perfect for fire wood if it hasnt rained.Highly recommended
MoreSuch a pretty little camping ground on the river. We will be back!
Nice peaceful place to stop and have a BBQ, only thing to remember is the BBQ has been removed and you have to take your own BBQ
MoreVery peaceful. Toilets not even vaguely accessible but freindly local put me onto the nice loos 4 km away opposite post office in Long Flat. Ill post pic of PO to help you find it.
MoreToilets were clean. Enough camping spots near the river.
Best place to camp. Its so close to the river. And its free you can drive in anytime and you can choose your own spot.
MoreBeautiful rest / camping area with great Internet service being ruined by 4WDs chopping up the riverbank and leaving rubbish laying around. It needs a water supply to camp area however there is an abundance of fresh water from the river. It has a picnic area/ small shelter.A Local shop and pub only 3 minutes back towards Wauchope.A limit of 2 weeks allowed in the camp area. The convenience shop at Long Flat has good supplies. You can fill water containers in Long Flat at the Sports ground .Bring fire wood. Great deep swimming in parts and good fishing in kyacks.
MoreAwesome free camp spot
Excellent for camping. Just bring your own wood.Cons; usually quite close to other campers so loud music is a no go.Firewood is hard to find, like almost impossible. So bring your own.Can be a little bit vanilla when it comes to camp sites.Pros; close to other campers, help is close by if something goes wrong.Drinks by a fire? Easy, if you bring wood.Places to swim relatively nearbyToilets just a short walk away.Kid friendly, as long as they dont have a habit of walking off unattended..serious theres a big hill😂
MoreBeen going here since i was a kid.Great place for free camping. Dogs aloud. Can access the car park in any type of vehicle. No showers. Pit toilets.
MoreA great little spot by the Hastings River. About 20mins past Wachope is a small reserve with a drop toilet, picnic benches and plenty of room. It is a very busy popular spot as we arrived to find approx 12 other campers already there. Highly recommend this place and dog friendly. Please note, there is no running water.
MoreAfter a long dry spell and now the rain this place is amazing. The river is running again and the grass has come back. A very beautiful place.
MoreWas there on a long weekend, a lot of other people aswell would have been good if there was more area toward the river was open for camping. Needs more toilets also.
MoreSecond time weve been here. About 10 years ago at Easter it was lovely green field with a drop toilet. We were early to get a spot and the rest filled very quickly. I think its popularity has let it down. People have left bins overflowing and there is a far bit of rubbish laying around. Random fire pits are scattered around. Maybe its to do with timing - it is the end of a busy school holiday period BUT we should all keep campsites clean especially free ones!
MoreGreat camping spot! This place was surprisingly quiet, only a handful of other campers spaced out across the campground. Friendly and chilled out. The river is much lower than in years past and wasnt actively flowing downstream like usual, but still great for swimming. There are lots of tiny fish and some friendly turtles that swim right up to humans. Id recommend sandshoes for the water but its not essential. The road in and campsite are easily accessible, however people with limited mobility may have trouble walking down to the river. If Driving from Wauchope or Walcha, it is sealed, well maintained road the whole way. The pub in Long Flat (5min down the roadis open late enough.BYO drinking water to the site, basic (possibly droptoilets were there, and some picnic benches. Otherwise its pretty much just a well-maintained field by a lovely river in the bush.
MoreAwesome camping spot! The reserve is always good for a swim. Just gotta look out for other people staying there
MoreGreat place with lots of grassy areas, some shade, nice deep river swimming, picnic area, dump toilets bring yr own toilet paper and no water bring yr own... close to fuel, great food, general store and a pub
MoreGreat free camp..lots of space to camp..lots beautiful birds and turkeys..long drop toiletsDump point and water tap would make this camp a number one spot..Happy to pay for water if it was here.
MoreNice free camp near the river. Would be awesome when the river rises a bit higher though. Will definitely be going back there with the van outside of school holidays 😁
MoreBeautiful place lots of caravans a d motorhomes. Get in early to get a nice spot.
MoreGreat place to camp, enjoy a dinner cooked on the fire...plenty of room to play about with a footy..Did a spot of gold panning in the river
MoreLooked like some rather permanent camps had been set up one as close as possible to the fenced off toilet block, meaning all other overnight campers had to set up a long way from them. With a problem walking first thing in the morning this did cause an issue for me on a personal note. There is plenty of space though and its quite.
MoreEllenborough Reserve, what great spot, close to the river, green and clean.Plenty of room even for big stuff. Amenities are basic but well kept. You can have a fire but bring you own wood.Very quiet and a relief after the hills either way.
MoreHad a great time camping here. Was empty besides us although the cold weather may have had something to do with it. Great little river frontage a short walk from campsite.
MoreGreat stop over. Plenty of camp spots and clean toilets
Its really amazing and peaceful area with nice pond and river, calm tracking, close mountain , toilet and reception for some operators, and totally enjoyable area to spend time, dont hesitate to visit it
MoreA beautiful clean camping area with crystal clear water for swimming. Local general store and hotel 4 kms down the road. Incredible bird life and make sure you bring the camp oven.
MoreElenbough reserve is a unique playground for all ages. Beautiful water ways and setting. If you are going in this direction, You would be a fool to miss it. You can camp there with good amenities.
MoreGreat camping close to river. Good for swimming. Can be very busy Especially on weekends and school holidays. Has drop toilet which is contract cleaned. No showers as mentioned before but for FREE what do you expect. Need to be self contained.
MoreNice place on junction of Hastings and Ellenborough Rivers Toilets only no drinking water Good stopover place for a few days to look at surounding features Closest shops at Long Flat
MoreGreat place to stay a night and cool off
Excellent place for day trip. Watet warm and clean. Toilets also available as well as camp sites if necessary
MoreNice place. Sadly starting to get over ran by deros and scum that are starting to bludge and live there as if they are entitled to it. Max stay is 2 weeks. Not 2 months or more. Sad.If people just go there for a holiday and keep going on to the next place it would be fine. Unacceptable to live there and steal things from around the area. Or take advantage of the area and what’s provided.
MoreGreat space for camping and fishing. Good place for the kids to swim and go walking by the river. Clean long drop toilet must have own water. Good for all kinds of vehicles plenty of room.
MoreGreat FREE bush camping, on a first in basis. Spaces are unmarked. Pit toilets available, no showers or electricity. Conviently located at the junction of the Ellenborough and Hastings rivers, and only 5 min drive to shop and pub.Area can be busy during holiday times. Ellenborough falls are approx 1.5hr drive.
MoreBeautiful. The fact that the camping is free here is fantastic. Loved the creek access and road in. Would love to visit again.
MoreOnly staying one night.. Friendly people good setting. Apparently very busy in season with queues waiting to get in.
MoreBeautiful little fresh water swimming spot here with 4x4 wheel drive access, we do a little bbq here. Good spot to take kids and dogs. It is a little rocky littered with river stones
MoreFree campsite and secluded riverfront! This place is the nicest free camp site in Australia in my opinion. There is a drop toilet and a little rainwater sink. They have fire rings and loads of shade. The view of the mountains and the river is phenomenal. It looks like you could swim when the current isnt so strong ( we went just after a big rain).
MoreLoads of space. Very easy access. Plenty of tree shade. Could be hard to find a level spot (popular place). Drop toilets and grounds well maintained by council. Nice covered picnic tables for day users. Great creek for a swim.
