Elephant Rocks - Park and Garden in Oamaru, New Zealand
Strange, surreal landscape. Well worth a visit, just for the oddness of it. Ample parking and a toilet hidden among the rocks.
Omg the rocks were amazing. Felt like being in Narnia. Its free to see, just a short walk
Loved it. Way better than any pictures. Easy to get too and well sign posted
A little out of the way but quite unique to see and the drive is very scenic in places. Well worth the detour.
Wonderful place to visit, very well managed and lovely for a picnic.
After the clay cliffs of Omarama this was another geological surprise well worthy of a visit. Easy access and close to the car park. Great views with the alps in the background.
We enjoyed the place, but the rocks are actually bigger than what it shows on the pictures. Its an interesting thing to go and see if you do have time and a good camera I suppose 😁
Much like Castle Hill but different made of rocks. Huge rocks everywhere, accessible for everyone on a private land next to sheeps and cows farm. Poos everywhere, mostly fried, occasionally fresh, but not overly stinky. Rocks are fun to go up and down, take photos, have a picnic, have a walk around for big and small kids. The walk around (maybe not up and down the rocksis relatively easy for elderly too. Theres a parking bay 30 seconds walk from the entrance. You wont be able to see the entrance from where the cars are parked but fear not, just walk up a bit more youll see all the signs and the gate.
This little stop off is magic. You have to get out the car and go take a walk you have to see this place its amazing.
Marvellous spent over an hour here the shapes and landscape are amazing. A must see in NZ will definitely visit again. Be respectful this is farm land and we’re privileged to be able to enjoy it.
Slipped over and nearly fell off a rock lmaooo! Would definitely try to climb rocks here again. Lots of fun.
Fantastic walk. Big rocks. Big climb. Very good. Elephant rock looks like a skull from different angles . Its also very easy walk so children can take it easily .
Elephant Rocks. Great part of New Zealands Pre-Historic History. A Must See for all that are loving Nature and History.
Well worth stopping for a wander round. How nice of the land owners to share their treasure with us. Interesting landscape
It was great view though it was far from the city. If you have time, it is worth visiting.
Amazing geographical feature, that will inspire many a budding photographer.
Interesting wee spot to wander about! Wear old and sturdy shoes, youll be walking in a field frequented by sheep!
One of my favorite places to watch the sunrise
Well worth the visit. Interesting limestone formations with exposed fossils
A good attraction with rolling vistas with the beautiful backdrop of the Alps. A secluded, unrushed look at some of the rock formations of the area.It would look so amazing in winter with snow on the hills
Bigger than elephant sized rocks, pushing out of the ground. Many shapes and sizes, well worth the 2 minute walk.
Amazing rocks, well worth visit
Very nice natural stone formation. Places is inside the private farm. Very well marking to find it. Parking and toilet is there. Not too much walking. On the way towards Oamaru, there is also natural stone wall formation catch your eye.
Awesome place to visit for free (donations accepted). There is even a toilet.
Amazing to see these huge rocks unearthed. No charge to see them. Well worth the trip to see them.
Interesting rick formations, and easy to find. Part of a bigger fossil picture around the area. Use
Awesome large rocks, kids loved climbing them. About 6kms from Duntroon.
Amazing spot, take some time to walk around the limestones and think of their age, which is approximately 20 million years. Free Toilet and parking are provided
Great place to have fun and think about the geology of our planet at the same time. Bring a picnic, its a wonderful spot for one (but please take your rubbish - theres no facilities)
Nice to visit if you are going past.
Unique rock formations in a green pasture.
We were fortunate enough to meet farm owner Mr Norm McKenzie who showed us all various animals poo bear owls rabbit daffy duck polar bear lion and allso a fox 👌😊 extremly friendly and helpful
A nice little valley of interesting rock formations.Lots of little nooks, crannies, holes, and other features to look around at. You can try your skills at climbing some of the steeper faces for a challenge.Bonus bathroom stop!
Beautiful place, specially at sunset. Not to be missed if you are around Oamaru. Great climbing are. Good parking place by the road. There is no infrastructure in the area, be aware.
Castle hill 2.0 good for bouldering for beginner climbers
Excellent place, my kiddo loved running around. Huge rocks and we had fun imagining what part of elephants body resemble the rock. Please note that there is li , , mited parking and no toilets around.
Lovely big rick formations to walk amongst.
Amazing formation of rocks. Good area to have picnic too along with your family. A must visit in New Zealand, a place where the first book of Narnia being shoot.
Well worth the extra 10 minute drive if passing through. Beautiful spot to walk around.
Lovely, small place to spend a day with bouldering. There are not that many boulder problems (compared to Castle Hillbut the quality of the rock is really good (not polished). At some routes the rock is razor sharp. There are also quite a lot of high balls. The rocks are not really busy. (Ive been at Elephant Rocks during the week for 5 hours and there were in total six other people visiting the place.)
A decent place for a little walk about observing the landscape. Better weather would be more enjoyable. The uniquely eroded rocks on the approach from the less used quiet road is incredible. I regret not stopping and getting taking photos. The history of this area is incredible so do visit the Museum a short distance away on the main route to learn more.
So peaceful. Stop and have a break here... They have a toilet.
A bit out of the way but definitely worth the stop if you are passing. Really impressive and unexpected as the view from the road isnt half as good as walking the 100m to be surrounded by the rocks. Good fun to play on and would make an excellent space for a game of hide and seek!
Beautiful, even on a cloudy day.
Pretty beautiful and easy to access, watch your step as there is a lot of livestock poo laying around. I would definitely recommend to stop by but would admit it is not as spectacular as Castel Hill in Arthur Pass.
Wonderful stone sculptures. They take the form only limited by our imaginations. Caution though, tread carefully among the sheep poo all around
A quick stop in a place of extrodinary wild beauty, only drawback is the few who think they have to leave their mark and write on the rocks.
Great place to stretch the legs and get some great photos
Great fun. Like a huge playground for kids.
Quite a unique place. The rocks are kinda cool if like this sorta thing
