Elbasan Castle in Elbasan

Elbasan castle is a 15th-century fortress in the city of Elbasan, Albania. Passing through the castle Foundations is part of Via Egnatia (picture- a road constructed by the Romans in the 2nd century BC that runs through territory that is now part of Albania, North Macedonia, Greece and Turkey. As a continuation of the Via Appia, it connected the two centers of the West and East - Rome and Constantinople (now Istanbul).

Just go there knowing there isnt an actual "castle" in place. This seems to be a common thing all around Albania. But the old walls and turrets that do remain from the old castle/walled city are interesting and worth a visit and just strolling through some of the old stone streets from the arched entryway past the mosque. The town of Elbasan is pleasant and a nice, slower, change of pace from Tirana. There is no fee to walk around inside the old walls so thats a good thing as well.

The Greatest place ever so lovly staff,great atmosphere and awesome panorama.i recommend zo everyone you must go once in your lifetime and visit Elbasan, the cookies called bollokume are the sweetest 🍪 cookies i ever .

Great place to have a quiet drink.There is a kids play area which saparte to the main dining area. There is free parking at the back if using the facilities

Walls are cool but everything is kept in terrible condition and thwy dont care about the ruins inside the perimeter. There is a hotel resort on top of ruins.

Elbasan is a very nice city to visit for it culinary and tradition.The castle is very big and its remains are to be noticed when you first drive in the city. Big fortified walls and inside old streets and houses saved as they were in the otoman empire.

Its not a castle, just a front wall of the castle and a regular old style Albanian houses behind the wall.

Impressing old castle with walls built many centuries back.Some parts still show normal life, some parts are nicely adapted for hotels, bars and restaurants.The old towers are impressing, and one hosts a coffee at the top.Inside the castle is a mosque and an old Church.

Very beautiful place in center city … they have a coffee and restaurant inside the walls the garden its with a lot of flowers around …. You can take a stop here because its really nice :its clean all around …good coffe … good food … exellent service … staff its so friendly 🥰 ideal place to spend a short time in contact with nature in middle of the city .

Super cool bit of ancient history in Elbasan. The walls and turrets are interesting of course, but the village inside is even cooler. Kafe Kalaja was a nice spot to sit in the sun for a coffee.

Very nice castle, seen from the outside. But in the inside is dirty and there are a lot of cars. Its impossible to take good photos inside.

Nice to walk around. Entering is like Entering a different area in the busy noisy city.

Beautiful historical castle located in the city center. Can’t miss it! Inside there are different bars and restaurants to sit down and marvel at the castle. If you dare, climb few stairs to get on top and enjoy a lovely view of the town of Elbasan.

Very nice quiet city. Good for having peaceful time butaybe for one day and thats it. You could not stay longer as theres not a big attraction in the city.

Coffee place inside and playground for Kidz over all clean service is ok but there is no menu or Price list

Its not like there is a castle though , just the city protection wall once upon a time still standing , dont even know why they call it the castle , but its nice to see the history still present

Eclectic place, as the whole city. Very interesting to see all this mixture of architectural styles. Ive never seen something like that, it is definitely worth seeing.

elbasan is a nice castle village where live people some coffee bars and old exponates were stand in corners around so you must look and explore and go with open eyes around.

a beautiful place to visit and see old houses like it was hundreds of years before. Most of the houses inside the castle where still inhabited. You can see the old art of construction by stone and wood. It is really nice to walk around. You can visit the largeplace attve Scampi Hotel and enjoy the view of old walls, towers and architecture.

Castle is a strong word. Its just a compound incompassing a fee shops. Not much of an attraction.

Interesting place, not a lot to see apart from mosque inside the walls but some nice restaurants inside walls.
