El Vez in Philadelphia

Atmosphere was amazing and the food was a mixed bag. Tacos...AMAZING...enchiladas...ok.The downside was our server who was definitely not happy to be there. A smile would do wonders for ya girl!

Guacamole was really good! We got the one with roasted garlic. We got the fish and lamb tacos. The fish tacos were decent and the lamb tacos were really good. An order of tacos consisted of 2 tacos. I am just so used to getting 3 tacos for an order 😂 so the portion felt a bit small.

Love this place! I haven’t been in 7 years, but it’s just as delicious as I remembered.

Couple of weeks ago we met for dinner and drinks on a Wednesday night at 8:30.The place was very busy but we were seated promptly.Our waitress was efficient and knowledgable.The drinks were delicious.The food is outstanding ,busting with Mexican bold flavors.Food was served promptly, My only concern was that I could not hear my groups conversation, it was that loud.I recommend this restaurant for a lively dinner with alarge group of friends. NOT FOR A ROMANTIC DINNER DATE!

I am from Texas where we have Tex Mex, but this is honestly the best Mexican food Ive had anywhere other than Texas. I got the appetizers nachos and added pork, it was enough for one person. My friend go the make you own tacos with 2 choices of protein. If ever in Philly please try this restaurant. It is packed during dinner and cant place reservations ahead of time but worth the wait. Staff and service was amazing as well.

Wow! Wow! Wow! If you are looking for something authentic, delicious, different, amazing here is your place! Everything is good in here, the vibe, atmosphere, staff, food, etc. loved it there and enjoyed my food.

Tried the chicken tacos and the black bean tlayuda and it was really really good! Cocktails are also great. This place has a really nice vibe. Definitely recommend it!

I came here for lunch and it was pretty busy for a Monday afternoon. While the service was most definitely subpar, the food was simply delicious, hot and fresh. By the time I remembered to take a photo of my food I had already eaten two tacos! The setting is also very ambient. The prices were a bit too high, although I’ve seen much worse in Center City. I definitely will be back another night for dinner hopefully.

A wonderful spot for either lunch or dinner, with phenomenal staff, tasty food, and an incredible atmosphere. Id say that El Vezs primary selling point is the ambiance -- it has a spectacularly decorated bar area that felt dark and moody, yet fun and upbeat. I would also give almost anything to get the playlist that was running the night I visited! The energy is great, especially for dinner or drinks.I came by for dinner with a friend on a Saturday night, and we both enjoyed a plate of black bean enchiladas and shared chips and guacamole for the table. He also picked up a lavender-honey jalapeno margarita and was thoroughly impressed. One warning is that you should definitely put in a reservation if you plan on coming on a weekend night. We totally forgot to do that and ended up having an hour wait...thankfully the weather was incredible and El Vez has a fantastic location, so it was easy to kill that time by just wandering around.

Great portions, delish food, friendly vibe, and a quirky decor - whats not to love?! LOVED it!!

Food was very tasty. Guacamole was great, fish tacos delicious. Blood orange margaritas were also excellent. Only concern are priced are going up and that seems to be everywhere. $12 drinks, $16 guacamole, two tiny tasty fish tacos with no rice or beans $16. Big fan but due to current prices will only go once in a while.

Went here with a group of 6 on a Sunday and we were sat in under 10 mins. The atmosphere was good and the staff was good, too!We ordered two pitchers of margs, a few orders of chips and Guac, and the vegetarian nachos. I really liked that the nachos were in a thin layer and every chip had some toppings. But they didn’t give us enough salsa for the chips- the ratio was way off.And maybe I didn’t see it but it looked like there was one single-stall bathroom for the entire restaurant, which was weird.

We went on a super hot day. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. She made sure we had enough drink. We ordered sweet corn and poblano empanadas and Baja shrimp tacos. Both dishes were delicious 😋 highly recommended

Awesome food & mixed drinks. We went for a margarita pitcher which is well worth the cost.Ambience is very nice & upscale. Decent crowd on Friday & Saturday nights. I recommend reservations.Our waitress was outstanding.

Skip the chips and go straight for the main course. The most disappointing part of my meal was the guacamole and chips. The guacamole felt like something out of a bag and so did the chips. I was worried about how good this mean would be. But then I got my tacos and I will say the tacos were amazing. The drinks are good not sure if I would go there just for them but the combination of tacos and drinks is outstanding. The service is slow, but I would say that might be due to how busy the place is.

El Vez is a Mexican restaurant, but its not your typical Mexican restaurant.Its upscale, the place gets very crowded, and the food is just as spectacular as the ambiance.The staff gets 100% from me—they were friendly, attentive and helpful. They made sure our table was ready for us when we arrived and that we were well taken care of throughout our meal.The food quality, on the other hand, gets a perfect score from me as well. As someone who has eaten at many Mexican restaurants in my life, this place definitely deserves top marks on its menu choices.

Food and service was excellent! Great atmosphere. My only complaint was that it was a bit loud, which made it hard to have a conversation. Definitely recommend the short rib enchiladas!

We had a great dinner service here tonight from Gabby, and amazingly delicious food. I had the black bean enchiladas and they were so incredibly flavorful! My friends had a guacamole, tostada (I don’t think it was called a tostada on the menu but that’s what it looked like to us Texans), and a lavender margarita. We ate outside and even when it was pouring down rain, we were fine under their umbrellas. I would absolutely recommend this place to folks!

Good margaritas and food! Very loud and always packed. Sat 9 of us in a half booth. Garlic guacamole was super good! Mex Ivan street corn the best I’ve ever had.

Went here with my sister and two friends. We each had different drinks and everyone liked what they had. We had the best guacamole Ive had in a long time. Also enjoyed my chicken enchiladas.

The drinks and customer service was good. Brandon was great! Ill give him 4 out of 5 ⭐️. The food wasnt that great however, the grilled corn on the cob was very good. Overall I would come back to this establishment if someone else wanted to go, like a group. El Vez wouldnt be my first choice but its not out of the question either. Decor is cute. The bathroom area is downstairs for both men and women. Its very dark down there. I recommend putting more lighting down there as a safety precaution. The sinks to was your hands are not directly in the restroom. Its outside the restroom. Also, if youre a person that looks for happy hour specials or lunch specials, El Vez definitely doesnt have any. Anything that you may not like on a lower scale, the drinks makeup for it. Not your traditional Mexican restaurant, but boy, did they impress. (I grew up in CA so I have been on the search for the best Mexican food in the Philly area.)While not traditional and great for larger groups, El Vez did not disappoint. In all the non-traditional glory -The chips and salsa had three different sauces/salsas all of varying heats and consistencies. The chips seemed out of a bag (aka not freshly madebut good enough.The guacamole was topped off with feta and fried garlic (weirdly amazing).The crispy mahi-mahi tacos were two to a plate, rolled and tied with twine.The shrimp tacos (3were large and fried (the toppings were a little heavy).The steak tacos had a great flavor but there wasn’t a ton of steak.The enchiladas mixtas were totally amazing and the unsung hero. Three enchiladas came in three separate crocks with its own unique twist. The chicken enchilada was in a molé sauce topped with red onion. The black bean enchilada was actually amazing in almost an Asian spiced orange sauce. The shrimp enchilada was small pieces of shrimp topped with another orange, but Mexican spiced, sauce. A small dish of white rice topped with black beans came with the plate (nothing special or flavorful). Overall, pleasantly impressed and excited to come back.

Great hospitality, from the time you enter till you leave its a great place to be. Staff was kind and helpful, food was awesome, presentation of food was great. Awesome vibe you can feel the energy. Highly recommended .Must visit once

I did not expect what I saw walking into this restaurant.El vez is a wonderfully furnished mexi_american style masterpiece.The service is prompt and the portions will leave you more then satisfied.Considering where its located the prices are also just attractive as me and the other person I was with didnt hit 50 with our order and had drink and food.I will happily becoming back for more I encourage you to take a leap of action and try it for yourself.

Perhaps the best Margaritas we ever had. The food was just as spectacular. You might have to wait for a table but your food will arrive within minutes and we went on Saturday night. Energetic atmosphere.

Theyre food was excellent as well as their margaritas. Highly suggest getting chips and guacamole and for tacos I preferred steak though the soft shell crate that was a special that day was also very good.

Absolutely incredible experience from the second we walked in until the second we walked out! Amazing hospitality, waiter was very attentive and all the food from appetizers to dessert were absolutely amazing!!!!

We stopped in for a quick bite after bar hopping around center city and we were not disappointed. The place was busy but our wait for an outdoor table was only 15 minutes.We started with the Nacho Mama, which is a medium pizza pan covered with chips, tomatoes, black beans, jalapenos, pickled onions, and cheese. The freshness of the ingredients is simply delicious- I highly recommend this appetizer.For our main course we had the taco tasting platter which is perfect for people who want some of everything. The platter has chicken, steak, fish, and pork (carnitas and arabestacos. Five delicious flavors to taste.Oh yeah, and the Margaritas are awesome!

Weve been to ElVez many times, middle to drink and eat guac, but this was the first time we went with a toddler and I cannot rave enough about how kind, understanding, wanna accommodating they were. We were worried that our pandemic baby who was not used to being out and about around people would get us kicked out of the place, but the host, hostesses, and waiter were all so accommodating. The host let us sit in a booth so we could contain her and got us crayons/ the kids menu and a booster seat. It was a great experience and as stress-free of a time that you could have with a 2 year old

Service was very good and professional, although the indoor seating is quite loud (which is ok, if thats your vibe). Its a popular place so make sure you have reservation. The food itself are quite good, although Im not sure Id call it authentic. In my opinion, it has been tweaked a little to American palate, however its not necessarily a bad thing. Its just that if youre looking for strictly authentic cuisine, i think youll be slightly disappointed. I have a pretty flexible palate so i can appreciate tweaks and modifications done properly. The machos nachos portion is large and the toppings are spread evenly, which i appreciate. The empanadas, you gotta eat it with the sauce, it brings out the contrast in flavor. The carne asada was cooked perfectly, although i would prefer if the sauce was a little stronger in flavor, its probably the only weakness i could see in an otherwise strong showing from El Vez.

Great Mexican spot, and good for large groups. We got the nachos and some chips/guac for an appetizer and split amongst a group of 6 because the portions were so large! Very good frozen margaritas as well.

Not only is this venue gorgeous, but the food is delicious. Be sure to request Carley for your server. Her knowledge of the menu and tequilas were stellar. All the staff was very attentive, my water was never empty. We started with the chips & salsa. This is not like most traditional salsas, as the main salsa is closer to a pico de gallo. All 3 of the salsas were delicious. If you’re indecisive like me, get the Taco Tasting Platter. It has samples of each of the tacos they offer. My friend ordered the Queso fundido con Carne for her main. If you love tequila at all, they offer amazing tequila flights. I, of course, had to indulge. Everything was delicious! I’ll be back next time I visit Philly.

Excellent Mexican food, the tacos are to die for. This is a big restaurant with plenty seating area both indoors and outdoors but it can get really busy especially on weekends. The service is decent but food is where it wins. Highly recommend!!!

It was my husband’s and my first time dining here and all we can say is WOW! The hostess was lovely and welcoming, our server Carley, was super sweet and friendly, she really steered us to an amazing dining experience. Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere and fun experience. Food and drinks are always good here. Order the Mahi Mahi tacos with extra sauce on the side and a bloody orange drink. You can’t go wrong with that combo. I always sit at the bar because that’s where all the action happens. Enjoy!!!

Been here twice and we have never been disappointed!! More then a small Mexican restaurant, this place blows you away with the seasoning, textures and overall experience of their environment! Staff is amazing and so is the decor.. Drinks are made with such interesting combinations and are mouth watering.

Ambiance is upscale and the place gets very crowded. Always go with reservation as getting table can be a challenge Or long wait. Our waiter was very attentive and was checking on us to ensure we have everything we need and are comfortable.we had make your own taco - Tofu and shrimp which was really really tasty and portions size was good worth the money. We also a pitcher of margarita which had good amount of alcohol.Overall i would like to come back even though it was little expensive experience.

"Wow!" is all I can say. The enchiladas, the queso, the corn, its all amazing! Everything is so flavorful and rich that I forgot where I was for a good hour. The staff is wonderful and welcoming, the dim lighting and atmosphere inside are soothing and intimate. What more can I say? A favorite, for sure.

Food was good. I liked their selection of guacs. It’s like really dark inside LOL but the overall experience was good. Food was tasty too. Good spot for large groups and families.

Great food. We had the taco combo with shrimp and steak. BiG portion. The first bite of the tacos was so yummy! I also had guava mijito and Vez margaritas. They were both great. I would go back again and try other stuff that I didnt get to try.

El Vez has an eclectic, cool atmosphere for a Mexican restaurant. The border of the dining area has these very cool, velvet oversized round booths!! Also, they have an awesome selection of Tequilas. The food was great and our server was informative and friendly. Highly recommend this fun eatery! I do recommend placing a reservation in advance.

Highly recommend this spot for a phenomenal lunch.The wait to be seated was averted because we opted to sit outside on a 90⁰ August day. Food and service were incredible, well worth braving the heat.Taco sample and guac were perfect, we especially loved the tacos arabes. Pomegranate margaritas made the perfect pairing.

One of the finest Mexican restaurants in this area. Ambience,food quality and the staff all get 100%. We were served by the manager Cassandra as we faced small problem with our dish but manager took the charge and gave us a special service. Hats off to their service. Drinks are awesome especially Guava mojito. They have indoor as well as outdoor seating. Definitely recommend this place

Modern take on classic Mexican food. Cocktails are delicious and the food is flavourful. Decor is a bit kitschy, but that’s not really why one goes to a restaurant is it?

El Vez is a popular food spot according to Google, and this time Google was not wrong. We arrived during peak hours, the immediately sat us, took our order, and provided fabulous food and bedside manner. We highly recommend the churros, chicken tacos, nachos, and the strawberry margaritas. Top Notch.

Definitely worth it ! The ambiance was great. The staff was amazing. Emily took such great care of us. (Thank you again!The food was even better. I had the chicken tacos, pink Cadillac & the pineapple margarita. Delicious. We had such a great time. I didn’t get the chance to take pictures of the beautiful decor.

Great food, a little pricey, but absolutely worth the money. Guac was great, enchiladas were fantastic and service was decent. If youre looking up this place, you already know you need to go.

First time at El Vez, and wont be our last. We had 6 at our table, and everyone enjoyed all of it. From the appetizers to desserts . Our waitress excellent, and very attentive heard it was my sons birthday and she got him a churro with candle. Looking forward to going back.

This was down the street from our hotel. We were able to sit outside which was nice the inside looked nice and flashy loved all the decor. The service was good. The drinks were awesome I had the pineapple 🍍 and cinnamon sugar the cheese dip and salsa dips were tasty we also ordered the Brussels sprouts which were okay. We ordered the taco platter it was good and interesting one of them (can’t remember what it was calledwas not good but the others were good. We’d love to go by and try out other items for a better rating! Maybe next time we’re through!
