Bar none, this is the best Mexican food in Helena. You can judge for yourself by the long lines at the takeout window every day they’re open (and I do wish they were open more often). Every now and then they’ll offer a meal (aka FEASTdeal—a lot of food for very little money. Great food cooked by really nice people.

Most authentic street tacos Ive had in town. Delicious! Love the carnitas and carne asada. Only place Ive been to that gives you the limes with raw white onion, and cilantro on the street tacos. 😋 its worth it to stand in line for a few mins. The salsa is also very good.

The wait was long, so I was hoping that the food would be exceptionally good. The prices were decent and the service was good. The food however, was just okay. I was a little disappointed honestly at the lack of flavor. The good side is that there was actually a lot of food. It wasnt my favorite, but maybe youll like it..... give it a shot.

Large portions of delicious authentic Mexican food! We had the pork street tacos and macho nachos. Like their menu says, their meat is seasoned well but if you like spicy, ask them to add one of their salsas on the side. Found this place after reading reviews when travelling thru. Sign says they are only open weekdays 11am to 3pm. No indoor seating, a few nice picnic tables, and you may have to wait in line outside for your food..but worth it!! The locals eat here so you know its good.

Drove by this place in my RV and had to come back. MAN, food like that should not come out of a window! Dont let the lines scare you, its worth the wait. My mom couldnt make beans like that, food was awesome. The line was running 20 deep when we got there. They are only open on weekdays from 11-3 and that speaks volumes.

Saw reviews for this restaurant while visiting town and knew we had to try it out! There is a line, but don’t let the line scare you away! This place is worth the wait! We got tacos, burritos, quesadillas and everything was so good with very generous portions. Also, short walk from the Capital building and Last Chance Tour Train.

When my friend and I arrived the line was long. Surprisingly with the long line the service was quick and the food was excellent. I have not been there in a long time but I definitely will be back the portion were generous it lasted me two meals. I will definitely be back

Great authentic Mexican food. The burrito was so big and so good! My husband and I should have split one. The service was so friendly and fast.

I order chicken enchiladas at every taqueria, and these are now at the top of my list! The horchata was lacking, it didnt taste homemade. It tasted like the powder stuff you get from the grocery store, but I didnt let it ruin my experience!

The food here is always and I mean always the best ever! Owners are so nice! We bought the street tacos for work lunch had one taco was filling enough plus if you scraped up all the dropped meat had enough for another one.

This place is so good, all the time and everytime. Not the fastest at service but the quality makes up for the wait lines. Great job El Vaquero Taqueria, you will see me many times over!

Found this place by accident for a takeout lunch. One of the daily specials was a carnitas burrito and it exceeded all my expectations. Even the flour tortilla was excellent, nice and chewy. This was the first of many visits.

This place never disappoints. It is truly an amazing restaurant with great service even though its only take out at this time. Love this place and these people. Portions are very generous for the pricing.

One thing you get spoiled outside of Montana is the chance to eat more authentic Mexican food. El Vaquero comes as close as I’ve found to the delicious “street” tacos I’ve enjoyed many places, including Mexico City. Their food is made fast, and with fresh ingredients. Definitely a tasty and fast takeaway lunch.

Went here today with some friends who visit a lot. Id never been nor heard of this establishment until today. The food is absolutely delicious, and Is served out quickly. This is not a dine in establishment, but the food is made right before your eyes and the taste of homemade Mexican food cannot be beat.

Amazing authentic Mexican food. Best taco joint in Helena, MT. Its a true Mom and Pops business. My favorite is the shrimp taco! Daily specials and super fast lunchtime service. The best Mexican food ever! I had the veggie burrito and it was fresh, full of good protein, just enough spice and delicious. The burrito was grilled lightly on the outside so there was a perfect crunch to it. The owners were a delight.

Every visit to El Vaquero is extraordinary. Ive been in food service for 30 years, I currently manage a restaurant north of Helena, so I have a pretty good idea of quality/authenticity when I taste it ! Oh my. This is absolutely the best Mexican cuisine north of the border. US BORDER ! Ive had it in LA, Ive had it in Texas, excellent. But this is better.A real treat every time, and these folks are down home, hard working, family oriented, genuinely nice people. Do yourself a favor and check out the Taqueria.

Simply the best! I love this place. This is not a sit down restaurant unless you want to sit outside at one of the picnic tables, which I have done and enjoyed. Most people wait their turn in line to order some of the best street tacos I have had in the states, or other authentic comida. I usually take it to go and get extra for the next day because it is just that good! I wish I had to be in Helena more often, just so I could get my hands on some of this love in a tortilla.

This is a gem in Helena that I recently discovered. I had the carnitas street tacos and they were to die for. I cant wait to try other things on the menu. The only negative I can think of is that theres absolutely no indoor seating and is very crowded inside when ordering during peak lunch time. They do have great outdoor seating if its nice outside though.

Awesome place! Didnt expect to find authentic Mexican food in Helena Montana of all places. I ordered the big 14" chicken burrito and asked them to make it spicy. It was seriously kicking and incredibly good. It was cheap too. I got my burrito for $8, but a regular burrito goes for $6 and a quesadilla $3. If Im in town again I will surely make the stop.

Best food in Helena. The owners are super kind and will make anything to order. There can be long lines, but it is always worth the wait. Everything is delicious...our favorites are the macho nachos, the burritos and the quesadillas...oh and the street tacos! Cant go wrong with anything off of the menu. Delicious salsas as well.

We absolutely love this place. Its family owned, so the hours are a little wacky. However, the food is fantastic. Best Hispanic food in Helena by far. Exceptional flavor, and wonderful service. The only downside is that the only table seating is outside.

Easily the best Mexican food in Helena, maybe the best in Montana. The owners are extremely friendly, the food is inexpensive, and the helpings are large. The mole sauce is as good as it gets without being made from scratch in-house. Be prepared for a line if you come at lunch time.

Oh my goodness! This place has amazing food! And the folks working there were so sweet! They had an experimental salsa of the day too. I had a vegetarian burrito (sans rice because its cooked in chicken stockand it was HUGE. Like the size of newborn baby.
