El Rancho Mexican Restaurant in Harrisonburg

The first time we went here it was great portions great food. Everytime we have gone back the portions have been smaller each time. Items missing no refried beans no lettuce no cheese no steak, multiple times this has happened this time alone missing bean cheese and lettuce. Enchilada supreme was just chicken this time Plus our order took 30 minutes longer than estimated. so in total waited for 50 minutes for food that wasnt even right.

I ordered shrimp and tilapia...I only got tilapia. And he said hes only doing cash. Like, no...COVID???. Terrible service.

We have always raved over El Rancho, the portions were large and the food was roll your eyes back in your head good.We were dying for good Mexican and ordered to go. Sadly, after tonight, we wont be back. I ordered a vegetarian quesadilla to be told they were out of veggies. He could give me cheese. We waited forever, but we understand staffing may have been low due to Covid. He finally came out and we look our food home. Strangely, after waiting so long and hearing cooking noises, the food was stone cold.None of the 4 orders was labeled, the rice was cold, clumpy and flavorless. The enchilada sauce tasted like it came from a can, the enchiladas had at most a tablespoon of cheese in each, and tortillas tasted raw. The Enchiladas Monterey beef was underseasoned, and the cheese was gloppy. My son was supposed to get a t-bone and got chopped steak with a sauce that wasnt supposed to be there and he couldnt finish because it made his stomach hurt. My oldest got pollo loco and couldnt even eat it.This is not the restaurant we fell in love with. We wont be back and we wouldnt recommend anyone else to go. There was a serious lack of care shown that cant be attributed to just an off night.

There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in town, but definitely give El Rancho a try! El Rancho has great food, variety of drinks, and decent service. They have a cool, unique atmosphere compared to other restaurants in town.

Had my brother and his wife come down for a visit from Houston and we went there las Saturday and they where charging $50 a bucket of beers for 5 beers . So my brothers wife ended spending $350 because you people where ripping them off . We called one of the co owners but they never did nothing about it . Worst place to have a drink and a good time deff not going again

Drove all the way from luray because it shows they were open online but BAM. Closed. 1/5 wont be returning

The drinks were very good. The prices were extremely affordable. The food was delicious. It was an overall great experience. I was glad I decided to stop there. I wasnt sure what to expect but I was throughly satisfied with my choice. it was an unexpected satisfying surprise

Located right near JMU, this restaurant is easily located off the main road. Nothing fancy just a nondescript building with a sign in front of it. The decor was mexican inspired but not overdone. We went during lunch so there was only one other family there at the time we arrived and when we were escorted to our seats. The prices on the menu are very reasonable for food and beverages including adult beverages. The food is extremely tasty and came out quickly. Potion size is good as well. I recommend this restaurant for drinks with friends or family gatherings. The only con was trying to find the waitstaff when we needed drink refills or the bill. Overall, a four star experience based on price and food quality.

Very tasty salsa and good food. Never seems busy, probably due to the odd location and looks. Dont let that dissuade you. Its really worth trying!

Food was okay and the waiter was extremely rude to me at the end of the meal. I will never return nor will I recommend this place to a friend.

Didn’t like where they sat us, they seated us kind of secluded from the rest of the restaurant. Waited 30 min for our food place wasn’t even packed. Service sucked.

El Rancho has the expected delicious Tex-Mex dishes and cervesas, but you should come because the staff is so friendly and engaging, and the food and drinks are very reasonably priced.

Standard Mexican fare, but good. Service was great. The vegetables in the fajitas were crispinstead of soggy. I was impressed by that.

Good food fast service.

Start out with Chicken Nachos w White cheese Sauce . Then ordered 2 orders of Fajitas.. chicken, steak n shrimp and we shared. Delicious Dinner Last night

Great food at a great price, the employees here were also very good with my 1 and 3 year old daughters and talked to them.

Friendly staff, good drinks, and most importantly great food! This place has the best quality, and best tasting, food of any other Mexican place Ive tried in the area. The burritos in particular are awesome and definitely worth a try, you get about a whole days worth of food for 12 bucks or less!

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We stopped in for lunch. I had the Special Burrito with ground beef and flan for dessert. Everything was tasty and very affordable.

The staff makes the difference here. A warm greeting for lunch. The booth we were seated at was a little awkward in its positioning, but seemed to be the only table as such in the establishment. I judge my Mexico fare by their Chile relleno. These werent bad, better than El Charos but not my favorite in town.

This new restaurant in Harrisonburg has been nothing short of amazing every time Ive visited with my friends. The staff knows who we are, gives us the same table every time and shares friendly banter with us. The food is always incredible, especially if paired with some of their alcoholic beverages. Im going to really miss El Rancho when I move!
