El Pintor - Catalonian restaurant in Barcelona, Spain
Lovely place for lunch. Efficient and friendly staff.
Delicious and excellent service. Not too touristic which we enjoyed a lot, wasn’t too crowded, good ambiance.
We came for lunch and it was very delicious. The daily menu for lunch gets you a starter, entree and a desert plus a beer/wine. Extremely affordable and good service. Would definitely recommend. It didn’t seem touristy at all.
Very local feel and amazingly tasty Paella, very quaint and the staff was great!
Excellent place, with very nice food! All plates were very delicious! Ordered the day menu and was definitely worth it! Service was very nice, slightly late when the place got full.
Steak and the kid ribs deserve 0 starsService is also very bad
A great atmosphere and overall satisfying dinimg experience. Keeping it simple, on a good way.
This resturant is truly a hidden gem. The food was par excellent. Service was superb. We had the Octopus & artichoke as appetizers. We ate creama catalana & torreja for dessert. Fantastic. The photos are from our main dishes. Also fantastic.
Delicious meal here. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Service was very speedy in terms of ordering food, but fell away at the end of the meal.
We arrived at El Pintor to have lunch. They had a special lunch menu which had 3 courses and a glass of wine for 15.95. Very tasty and excellent value for money. We will try to return for dinner if we have time.
My wife and I had a lovely lunch here. They serve a fixed menu. The food was wonderful and the service was fantastic. Charming restaurant, highly recommend!
Such a hidden gem we came twice for lunch within three days. The lunch menu is very tasty, diverse and at a fair price. I recommend the eggplant xips as a first course.I loved it!
I had read reviews for this restaurant before I booked, but We were very disappointed with the food. Main course may have been overcooked as it was dry and not tasty. Cant even remember what we started with. Nothing memorable. Cant recommend.
It was ok but far away from being in my top 10 in Barcelona. The menu is quite short and the food it’s just OK. Nothing great
What a great find! I cant recommend this place highly enough. Beatiful building, delightful staff and fabulous food. The menue del dia (lunch timeis amazing value, €15, for a 3 course lunch with a glass of wine.To be honest I could not afford to go in the evening!
We loved the calcots!! Real Catalan food! The waiter was kind and professional.
Amazing food, two days in a row, everything from the menu was delicious, from starters to desserts, also great wine and pleasant waiters. Definitely would recommend! 🙂
Its a great place to encounter large tourist groups. The duck is fine. The pa amb tomaquet was completely wrong... Which is a shame because thats such a basic, but important part. I mean, the space is charming and I guess that the location suggests this is what I shouldve expected, still Id certainly not go back.
Absolutely great!!! Delicious and authentic local food. Recommend.
Owner is rude and very unfriendly. Not welcoming at all. It doesnt matter if you have good food, if owner and staff are rude the experience is horrible. I do not recommend and definitely will never return
We were here for a late lunch (around 3:30 pm), got a lunch menu, and the food was outstanding.Tried: tempura eggplant with a special sauce, gazpacho, breaded chicken and cod fish on veggies. Everything was in point, and for the desert- the best of all : Crema Catalana with that unmistakable taste of burnt sugar that takes you back to the campfire and marshmallows.Beer and water were included. Menu is €15 p/p. September 2021.
Beautiful place, awesome food and the service is excellent as well!!Worth every penny!!We had:Pulpo asadoArroz de mariscosSolomilloEverything was just delicious!!Gracias y hasta la proxima!!
2nd time eating here and absolutely loved it! Great menu of the day! The quality surpasses the price ratio. I will be back 🙂
I recommend it 100%. Excellent food nice live saxophone music. A place to be. The service the best. Drinks unforgettable.
Came to the restaurant by our Hotel front desks recommendation, and my wife and I wouldnt regret the decision because of the restaurants kindness and good quality of food. We took a veal and a salmon with caramelized apple, and those were wonderful to have. Also, the manager took care of our time and food so well, so the time was perfect as our last night at Barcelona. GRACIAS :)
Exceptional cuisine. The staff are warm, and while they may become busy they definitely do not skimp in quality. The air becomes laced with intoxicating smells of crisped veal and duck. The apple purée compliments the duck confit in a manner that rivals the French with little effort. Happy I chose to come get me upon a chance.
One of the best Spanish cuisine restaurants I’ve tried in Barcelona. The food, the atmosphere, the service are beyond expectations. Must visit to get the real catalonian experience.
Had dinner with the family on our last night in Barcelona. It was the favorite restaurant of many in our group. One of the best Paellas we had on a 10 day trip to Barcelona, Madrid and the surrounding areas. Great steak cooked on a hot stone for the carnivore in the group. The restaurant had a homey feel with a friendly staff.
My family and I love this wonderful restaurant! Beautiful building; gorgeous old-school stone, wood details, and fairy lights in the interior; and a lovely menu. Every item is delicious and made with care. The fixed lunch menu is an absolute bargain for a three course meal of its standard. The waiters are experienced and friendly, and do their best to serve in several different languages--we found Spanish and French to be the most common, but we were still able to order and ask questions in English. I would recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone looking to visit Barcelona and eat in the gothic quarter.
Our waitress was incredibly friendly, the atmosphere was stunning and unique, and the food was innovative and perfectly prepared. I would eat here once a week if I were a local. Do yourself a favor and try it!
The waitress did not speak that much English, but was super friendly and we managed to understand other nevertheless. The food was delicious and the prices seemed very reasonable. I would definitely go back.
Awesome catalan authentic restaurant. After visiting Barcelona several years ago, my wife remembered this little restaurant and that she at that time didn’t make it to eat there. So we did it this time and were not disappointed. It’s best to make a reservation, since every time we passed by, the house was full. So we reserved a table for two and enjoyed very tasty carpaccio (we had veal and salmon, the latter being the better, the former a bit too thick and served frozen), fish (the cod with honey and the cod with ratatouille, both of them were awesome, and finally a chocolate cake with chocolate cream covered in chocolate (yes, triple chocolate, so to say). Based on the recommendation a fantastic spanish red wine. The staff was fantastic, relaxed and attentive, humorous and friendly at all times. Not only did we eat very good, we also felt very comfortable and in good hands. Thanks for a great experience.
Superb service and food was perfect and reasonably priced.Good gluten free options as well.Location is good in Gothic Quarter ,Would not hesitate to recommend.
Everything about this restaurant is wonderful! The staff are lovely, the paella and cannelloni are absolutely to die for, desserts are lovely, and on the weekends the saxophonist is really talented. Im going to bookmark this place for every time I come to Barcelona in the future.
Cockroach on my table which spoiled the food experience. I asked the waiter to remove the animal, he apologized and removed the animal. After this incident I was not able to enjoy my dinner. The waiter did not act on the incident. He could have offered us another table. I was disappointed that the restaurant had us pay the whole bill and didn’t mention the Cockroach incident.
Very nice smallish restaurant with very traditional and fresh Catalan cuisine. Fish, veal chops, and local vegetables were all delicious. Wine list of local rioja and whites was very affordable. Would highly recommend as opposed to high volume tourist venues.
Wasnt a fan of this place. I dont like to judge service when Im part of a big group (it was OK), but I didnt like the food. The cheese and ham starters were OK. The chicken/sausage casserole wasnt good. Sorry.
Myself and my wife ate here last night. I had the lamb shoulder and she had the paella. Both were delicious. Excellent food and the staff were attentive. It was quiet when we walked in at 9:30 on a Friday night but I think this was due to the distance from La Rambla. Certainly a good thing if you like a quoted restaurant!
Amazon Catalan Restaurant in the Hearth of the city. Steak tartar, Salmon and the Escalivada. Wuao!!!
Very cosy and atmospheric setting. Our starters were tasty and my wifes main was delicious. Mine was a little bland but the piece of fish itself was a very good size. The staff, while polite and attentive speaking in many languages to the multicultural diners, made a lot of noise banging and clearing away dishes. It kind of ruined the ambience. I dont think Ive been to a noisier restaurant. I also understand that tables need to be cleared, but sweeping and pulling out chairs while people are eating is bad practice.
In all honesty we were a little nervous when we first walked in. We had reservations for dinner at 8pm, and arrived to find the restaurant empty (and it would remain so for the rest of our time there). Despite our initial trepidations we ended up having a fantastic meal! The iberico ham was delicious, and the croquettes and papas bravas made for great appetizers to share with the table. The main courses, however, were a delight. Our group got the cod, lamb, Catalan sausage and beans, and duck confit, which were all delicious (the duck confit was especially tasty, don’t shy away from it just because it’s a French dish in a Spanish restaurant). In the end, despite first impressions, the great food and delightful service from the staff (which admittedly may have been due to the fact that we were the only customers therewon us over.
Charming little restaurant, tucked away on a quiet street. Wouldnt have found it if we didnt know it was there. Wonderful meal. Lovely, professional servers. Highly recommend this restaurant.
100% worst paella in Barcelona. The seafood and chicken used was old (maybe ruined but I did not try hard enough to find out). You can get a way better food even at the worst tourist traps for less money.
My husband and I had been once before to El Pintor last year. Our experience was alright. Because of the interesting location and decor we decided to entertain two business guests for an early dinner before the conference in the morning. We arrived early for our reservation at 7:30. Our hostess greeted us and we were seated in the upstairs dining area. We were brought something to drink but nothing else for 30 minutes. No one came to take our order or check on us. We were the only customers in the restaurant. Finally, a guy who had passed our table walking to a back hallway with a motorcycle helmet under his arm reappeared in waiters garb and took our order. Another long wait, while I sat uncomfortably enduring the stare of the hostess while moped guy gossiped, it appeared, about me. The food was overall of very amateurish quality. Both ladies ordered paella. Instead of tasting like the rich marriage of saucy rice, seafood, chicken and chorizo it was chalky and bland. The small amount of seafood was rubbery and tasteless. Both servings seemed to be taken from a container that had spent many days in the refrigerator. Our husbands steaks with cepes were tough and tasteless. The paella went back to the kitchen hardly eaten. The men being men almost finished their beef. I ordered chocolate lava cake for desert. I only remember overly sweet, not much chocolate flavor after one bite. I couldnt eat it. Our evening at El Pintor was basically a wash. I wonder why our service, our food, our entire experience was so forgetful. The kitchen and wait staff were not busy. To cap the night off, just before putting on our coats a very colorful procession of people carrying flags, beating drums and leading a horse passed through the narrow medieval alley just steps from the restaurant. We asked the manager what this was about, expecting a little local color story. He looked irritated and said, " just some stupid people". Please dont waste your time at this establishment.
Very friendly service and nice atmosphere. The food met all our expectations.
Great service and food. Recommend the lunch for a high quality value, but it is also a cozy spot for dinner. Duck Confit was heaven. Staff was very nice and welcoming.
Amazing rustic and genuine interior combined with tasty treats sums up el pintor. The octopus is highly recommended. It was vey well cooked and seasoned. tender with a great flavor. For main platter we ordered the duck confit and the steak. Both were flavorful, very well cooked and came with tasty grilled sides. Little overpriced but the food and ambiance ate well worth it.
The food are not the best we had at Barcelona. I stayed here for three months, and this is they counted the quantity for water wrong. And the waiter were in the bad mood or what so ever, but not welcoming at all. Will not come back.
Food is worthy of 5 stars, no doubt, why I give it a 4 is because we waited about 45 minutes for out appetisers even though it wasnt that busy of a night, but the staff came and apologized and gave as some fried croquettes as compensation, very kind of them. Super cool, old looking and rustic interior provide a really pleasant dining experience!
I like this restaurant a lot! It is placed in the best possible location, in the middle of the gothic quarter besides the Generalitat and very close to the cathedral. The food is very good as well, it covers a big range but mostly local Catalan food like fideuà, paella, and other Mediterranean delicious food.
