El Patio De Sam - Puerto Rican restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Went there looking for Mofongo but found a better dish called Trifongo, very delicious dish and wonderful staff
The food is disgusting! DONT WAIST TIME AND MONEY. No seasoning. No Soul.Waitress are nice.
Delicious 🤤 generous portions and friendly staff. Would recommend.
Server was sweet! Fried fish sandwich was massive and yummy (a little more sauce would have been nice). My husband had the Cubano. He liked it. Great atmosphere.
Save your time and money. We sat down and waited about 10 minutes for the server to come and offer us something to drink. After that she disappeared for 45 minutes. We timed it.Food was no great!
For over 50 years El Patio de Sam is recognized as an icon in Old San Juan. They offered a varied menu: burgers, croquettes ,frappes, sandwiches, puertorrican food. The waitress was a friendly young woman who was very knowledgeable about the food.
The wait for our food wasn’t that long maybe about 20 minutes got offered drinks pretty quickly but the food was cold I had fried pork chops with rice and the pork chops were burn and the rice was super cold and the burger my partner ordered was also cold and fries were not eatable and the price was not worth it
The bread was burned on my sandwich, and the drinks werent good. I liked the vibe of the place, but... nothing else
Super bad service and rude waitresses and staff! After walking in and seating ourselves the two lady waitresses in the front standing by the door took literally 15-20 min to come and ask us for drinks and with that a rude attitude as well! I would never go back! After that we walked down the street to “restaurant El campeón” and had an amazing 5 star experience!
Have not been there in a few years. Went last week and the Pina Colada was not very good. They actually dont have Morongo, They have the trifongo. It is also overpriced.
Terrible food and took forever to arrive. Empanada was a deep fried brick. Trifongo was a deep fried brick. Fish smelled off. Lighting strobed the whole place. 😫
Normally I wouldnt post a negative review of a restaurant, especially not one like this, where the servers were very friendly and kind. But the food at this restaurant was literally the worst food I have ever been served in any restaurant, anywhere, at any time, in my entire life. It was absolutely inedible. Just flavorless deep-fried sticks of grease and gristle. The food took an eternity to arrive and the bill was incredibly high. The only food that had any flavor was my fish, which was so salty I couldnt eat it. We left the majority of what we were served on the table and the only reason we didnt go somewhere for dinner on the way home is that what we DID eat left us all queasy. To top it off, the bill was sky high at the end. We paid less for many, many superior meals in Old San Juan.
Food was decent. We were told to seat ourselves and it was about 20 min till the waitress even came to our table. Waitress was at the table behind us sitting at a table and talking on her cell phone and didnt even mention to us that shed be with us in a moment.
Good food, not excellent. Beware of cocktails because it barely has any alcohol, and veggies are frozen, not fresh.
One of my wife and I’s favourite bar to go to on our honeymoon.
Decent place. People were nice. A little slow on service. Bartender had his back to us a lot on his phone. Drinks were good. Will probably return if we’re in the area
Went with a food tour group and it was delicious! We got to mash our oulwn mofongo. Very tasty!
Chicken strips were noticeably burnt, lettuce wilted, and bathrooms flooded! Disgusting! If the bathrooms are like this, you know the staff can not possibly wash their hands because their shoes would b wet! Ur overall the waitress was very nice
Slow service and food horrible the worst steak and onions Ive ever tried, spam taste better.Drinks are good though.
Food was mediocre 😕 and not fresh!Pictures shows a perfect meal but reality is I have a good camera 🤳 disappointed 😞
Every plate was delivered warm, ordered grilled pork chop received it fried, ordered a ceaser salad never got it, ordered a white sangria received something orange then it showed up on our bill. Ordered fried chicken bites appetizer and received it with dinner. Seriously? How? Its an appetizer. How can Everything go wrong? Everything? Stay away, I wish ya luck if U try it
This restaurant is a family favorite of ours! We came in around 9:30 on a busy Friday night with a party of 6 and were sat almost immediately. Our server Andrea was attentive, sweet, and had us laughing the ENTIRE TIME! I had asked her if it was alright if I ordered the kids pasta (something about Puerto Rican Alfredo sauce just hits differentand she asked for my ID, my family and I DIED! Food was excellent, service was outstanding, and the ambiance is immaculate! One of my most favorite spots in San Juan ❤️
Great frozen drinks, had a Pina Colada & a Strawberry Daiquiri About $9 a drink, small bar are but lots of seats
We went for some drinks during the day.And later on we decided to go for dinner. But unfortunately most of the restaurants close very early. It wasnt even 8pm and pretty much everything was closed for dinner. Keep that in mind. So we decided to go to the same place and have dinner. The service was good. But the food itself wasnt. It was good amount but plain. No seasoning no flavor. So it was very disappointing. The only thing that was good were the cheese balls.I was surprised that place that has been opened for so long doesnt maintain the standards. Go for the drinks not for the food is my opinion.
If I could leave 0 stars I would. They took one hour to deliver food, bad service. We were never asked if we needed to more drinks. They would not check on us and food tasted simple and portions are not what you expect.
We were a party of 4. We waited for 20 minutes and neither of the 3 servers came to our table. As one passed by I proceeded to call her and asked if we can be served. She said give me a minute and walked away. 5 minutes later she came to our table and asked what we wanted to drink. At this point I just want my food so 2 of us ordered water and the gentleman ordered an old fashion and a Manhattan. 20 minutes later the server came back and said here are the 2 waters and the bartender said he didn’t have the ingredients to make the drinks. 20 minutes later????? Then we proceeded to wait another 10 minutes for 4 sandwiches. We receive our food and the onion rings were not hot or salted. The steak was horrendous. It was cold and chewy and full of cartilage. There was no type of sauce on the sandwich or offered (ketchup, mayonnaise, etc). As I look around I can see the frustration from the tables around us because no one had food and have been waiting forever.
Located in the heart of Old San Juan this is a great place to stop by for dinner. They have indoor and outdoor dining options. My friends and I ordered the sampler platter, extra order of buffalo wings, steak El Trifongo, and churrasco. We really enjoyed our food here. Their burgers were rated very high years ago, but we decided to order what others recommended. Between the 3 of us, the wings and steaks were definitely the main highlights. Wings came out piping hot with an extra layer of crispy breading. We finished the sampler which included wings and ordered more. The meat in the El Trifongo and churrasco were seasoned perfectly. Thinly cut tender slices perfect with the rice and fries. Price wise we definitely feel like we got our moneys worth. Would I go out of my way for El Patio probably not. But, if the Ubers are taking a while and traffic is bad similar to our situation this is your spot.
I mistakenly passed by this place initially. The photo of the Trifongo outside totally misrepresented how absolutely amazing it was! On top of that they had Tres Lech and that was good TOO! Then I ordered a mojito.. And guess what.. Good too! Its also one of the only places around that had power when it went out! This is definitely a place to come and eat!
For a place to grab some treats after looking around San Felipe del Morro, stop here. Only a short distance away from del Morro as you make you way back down the hill.
We went on a Monday night so maybe the cook was hungover from the weekend or perhaps this is the norm, but our food was NOT good. Our server was kind and knowledgeable about the food. It was expensive, in fact, it was the most expensive of any where else that we ate on our trip to PR. The atmosphere was just ok.
Worst mofongo I’ve ever had. The chicken looked like it was just boiled, and they poured some of the water it was boiled in on top of the mofongo, making the whole dish soaking wet. The empanadas were heavily fried and only around 1cm thin, they tasted just like fried dough. The service was extremely slow and we had to go up and get our waitress a few times. Everything was overpriced as well. There are so many better restaurants in the area, DONT GO HERE
Chose this place based on reviews I read but was very disappointed. I should have left as soon as they handed me dirty menus (they were gross). Picked it bc my daughter was interested in a Cuban sandwich and when we go to order it, well they have no pork. Great! She ordered empanadas and I ordered the trifongo and both were plain and lacked flavor. I ordered a mixed drink and it was SO sweet I couldn’t even finish it. Not high quality food or drinks. Worse place I ate at in PR.
The food is good. Its a much better value then restaurants on the main shopping street. My pork sandwich and pina colada were delicious. A nice atmosphere. We ate here 3 years ago and remembered it enough to come back.
We had a great experience at El Patio De Sam. Locally owned and run family business right in the heart of old San Juan. The drinks and food were great, service was friendly, and prices were reasonable. They were accommodating for vegetarians, offering a veggie trifongo.
The best food and service. Do not miss the opportunity to pick this spot to hang out. ALL items on the menu are delicious!!!
Great ambiance, appetizers, salsa at the right volume and very cold beer.
The food is TERRIBLE. The service is worse. If you have two hours to kill and you want to sample stadium-level cuisine - this place is for you.I am still scratching my head how this place won the best cheeseburger in the US in 2012. It was on an unremarkable roll with a pitiful tomato / onion / lettuce on the side. The burger was like something I would expect at a school cafeteria. The staff was unpleasant, unhelpful and distracted by the food-tour.The only positive is that I didn’t go here on a food tour and waste addition $$.
This place is overrated and overpriced. We went there because we read good reviews. The food was not good. We ordered some Patelitos they were massive and the flavor not good. My sister ordered a burger she left it half way. I ordered a churrasco (skirt steakI asked for medium rare it wasn’t medium rare. The server didn’t even know which one was it. Her reply was this one is less burnt. Like are you kidding me? We thought this was a nice place, it’s just a restaurant with a back that happens to have the semblance of a skylight. I was very disappointed, the reviews people had given it do not match what this place is now.
I need to leave an honest review here. The service is MORE than 5-stars. There are hard working servers really hustling to get everything you need in a super quick manner from drinks to appetizers to entrees and all desserts/coffee… but that is where it ends.I wish this service existed everywhere in the island. And I SO wish the quality of the food was good. The food does not have a “wow” factor or impactful spices and flavor. I can only recommend this spot for drinks…. Maybe appetizers, but that is pushing it.I feel bad writing this review, since the service was memorable, but I don’t want to mislead by any means.
Great location and friendly bartender but I do not recommend the food. The fish was over cooked to the point where it was inedible and looked like chicken, the salad was a few pieces of lettuce with a slice of tomato on top. The waitress gave us the wrong food and then lied to us when we asked her about it. It seemed she was having a rough day.
Our server was very nice, but the food was not great. I got fish and chips and they were almost black they were so overcooked. The fries were room temperature. The Onion rings were decent, but the burgers well done. My son got the Cubano and loved it. So, if you go, dont get the fish and chips nor burgers and expect to wait a while for your food
Awesome atmosphere! Excellent drinks and awesome music… We stopped in for drinks after walking around downtown and at El Morro! Had an awesome time! Great, friendly service!
Very slow service, took 40 minutes to get a burger. Waiter was no where to be seen. He brought us food but no napkins or utensils. The burger was mediocre and the fries were awful.
This place was recommended by one of my friends and I really enjoyed the experience. When we walked in we were welcome we had a great smile and our server took care of us gracefully. The food was delicious I ordered a charcoal chicken breast with rice and beans and tostones. In my opinion everything was on point and the season was amazing. Thanks Jennifer for your hospitality.
Decent food.my tenders WERENT crunchy, and they NEVER came to ask for refills. It takes FOREVER to get my food aswell.at least the frys were okay but I WONT be coming back soon, cause I dont even live in Puerto Rico
Food overall was good, service was a little slow, churrasco was amazing, onion rings were very crispy, cheese ball appetizer was very good especially with the sauce, atmosphere was nice, there was a large skylight with plants below it
Very delicious food but a bit more American inspired food than we expected. Loved the fish sandwich - deliciously crispy!
Nice place. The bartender was fairly friendly and they had ample choices for outdoor seating. Tried a drink called “Pide du Madras”, not bad but a bit on the sweet side. I did not try the food but it seemed to be pretty standard Borinquén bar fare.
Great authentic Puerto Rican food. The flavor was out of this world and the price was very affordable. Drink were amazing as well. Hope to go back soon.
The Soggy Burger at Old San Juan prices. A friend of mine told me of this place and said they had a different kind of burger. So of course I had to try it. So I made the long walk up the hill on an empty stomach to get this different kind of burger. I arrived with a few friends and we got a table right away. We all ordered frozen drinks and my piñacolada was very good. So I ordered the Burger American and it arrived in a normal amount of time for a busy lunch hour. That is when I found out what was different about this burger. It was the kind of burger that has been frozen so long that when cooked it had the texture of what I would describe as a soggy burger. The taste was not bad or great, just a soggy burger. That kinda ruined the rest of my meal. The inside of the restaurant was very nice. The staff was nice although it took as long to make and eat the food as it did to process the check. Now I dont want to turn everyone away from this place, the menu looked like it had some other high price plates that mite be good but with seeing how they make a burger I would just rather spend my money at one of the other places a one minute walk away that I know take pride in what they serve. I do not think I will be returning. I hope this review helps you find a good meal as their a many great restaurants in Old San Juan.
