El Palenque - Restaurant in Montevideo, Uruguay
El Palenque in Montevideo
Description
Privilege
Very good restaurant at the Mercado del puerto. The owner is on top of his business.......food is delicious.
MoreThe iconic place to eat on the port district. Fancy but affordable.
Formidable authentic Uruguayan beef restaurant in a classic market hall with the best Picanha ever. World class. Roasted to perfection on wood heated parrilla. Simple but perfect seasoning.Good and professional service. The only minus the lack of good vegetarian food. The paella was quite tasteless, I’m afraid.Strongly recommended.
MoreToo much smoke, dishes are overpriced. Seafood pasta was not good. On the good hand, waiters are gentle and kind
MoreVery tasty lomo steak
White asparagus with Parmesan cheese, shrimp with garlic. Juan Carrau Tennat wine. So very, very good
MoreAweful awful attention & service. Was not full house & had me waiting 40 min I did have a water & chorizo which I ate only half. I ended up canceling they didnt charge me for the water & chorizo but still unacceptable. I travel alot & this Is the first time Ive experienced such a bad experience with a Restuarant. Bummer too becuase its my first day In Uruguay.
MoreNice place but very expensive!!
This is Mercado del Puerto. Palenque is the restaurante. The Mercado is a nice, touristic place to visit while strolling through Montevideos Old City streets. Mainly to eat, has some shops inside and outside, to buy other goods / products. The restaurant is quite good for an Asado, table cooked. But ask for a special (DIY). The menu one is just fair. Reasonable price. A note: credit card payment discounts are VAT refund, not a restaurant courtesy.
MoreGood food. Bit expensive though
The food is just ok but the service is super good. Its an option in case youre in a hurry and cant decide where to eat.
MoreGood meat, good people and good atmosphere.
Maybe only for meat. Price too high for the quality of the restaurant, two ravioli, one entrada, and water, 60 dollars. My rating on the ravioli is 4/10.La cucina è unaltra cosa!I didnt like the cleanliness of the place. If you want to charge so much you must to have something special.
MoreVery expensive and low quality. The meat was over cooked and VERY poor quality. You should avoid this place. Not worth at all.
MoreGreat experience one of the best steaks I’ve had!
Touristy. Loud. Very busy. The least good steak in ten days in Argentina and Uruguay. Polite service from a harried waiter. We were sorry to have tried it.
MoreThe place is good for one reason: the asado. It is a special portion of grilled beef, with boand and fats, which very famous for its taste. However it is very expensive, just like paying for silver to eat... there is a waiting list to eatoutside, together with flies. The personel, was not so polite as expected for a so expensive restaurant. I would not recommend it. Ifyouwant to have meat specialities, do not go there.there are other restaurants near, however i did not go there, so i cant say more about them. I would expect better quality and more resonable prices..
MoreNice place in the local market, but tortilla was good, entrecôte and spinach so so, service is attentive but price is too high...
MoreOverpriced, overrated, terrible house wine! The staff is nice though!
Really nice meats, incredible set up but a little pricey. Either way, worth the experience.
MoreThis is the best steak in the world incredible incredible incredible a must for anyone visiting - I had Picana and it’s the best!
MoreWe have had an excessive amount of beef in Argentina and Uruguay and this was our final stop. It was totally worth it! The asado de tira and the vacio fino were the best we have had in South America. This was one of the only parrillas we visited that seasons their beef properly (by US standardswith kosher salt. Visit mid-afternoon to avoid the crowds and enjoy a spot in front of the grill.
MoreThe food is amazing and the service is great.
The meat is ok but very expensive! Careful cause they charge 150 pesos just to sit in a table!
MoreGreat food and service!
After enjoying the arts and crafts of the Mercado del Puerto, it is a great restaurant to mingle with locals and enjoy a great meal. Great seating outside. The cold beer on litter bottles comes with an ice bucket like those used for wines to keep cold and enjoy! Busy mid afternoons. The black rice with chipirones is the best I had...better than grandma’s... but please don’t tell her!
MoreOne of many restaurants located in the "Mercado del Puerto". I think it has a nice atmosphere, sitting at the bar (they charge less cubierto here - $80 p.p.and watching the master chef at the grill is like show cooking. For sure its expensive! Its one of the most touristic places you can go as far as I know... Nevertheless they serve juicy & tasty meat. It depends where are you from and what price structure you are used from home if you think its super expensive or fair for what they serve.
MoreGood food and service, with a heavy price tag, and quite a few caveats; We enjoyed our meal, and accepted our couvert willingly only to find out that whiles we only received bread, other tables were receiving extra sauces, and after ordering our dishes and hearing they accompanied fries, other tables were given the option of choosing side dishes, even though we asked.Considering, quality, service and price we experienced in other places in town, this place, while definitely good, lags behind.
MoreMy first experience in Montevideo. Went with good friends. Had the best (lomo)steak ever! Not cheap and worth it. Very good service...wonderful experience. Highly recommended.
MoreGreat food. Friendly staff. Amazing sangria.
Good food, great service. After giving us directions, our server chased us down (literally ran 1kmto return an item left at the table.
MoreBrilliant. Food cooked over coals in a wonderful atmosphere. Steak cooked to perfection and very cheap compared to Western prices. Would highly recommend. Also wine (including house Tennatis very good. 500g of steak, fries, two large glasses of wine and a starter came to 1200 / £27GBP
MoreLocated inside Mercado del puerto, its a good place to eat the traditional Uruguayan parrilla. There you can get large portions of meat. They prepare it in front of you, and its so interesting to see!!!
MoreNice local place to eat great meat!
Best meat in the down! Baby beef is highly recommended
This is one of the places you have to go in Montevideo, even if you are a local. The poeple that come here have one thing in mind, meat, glorious and tasty meat in a good wood fire. You can have the whole range of meat cooked in a happy and proud way knowing youll be amazed and wanting to eat more. Side dishes and apetizers are great. Good wine selection. Liquors ans good rums are spotted on the shelf. Give yourself a gift to the tastes and go there.
MoreSteaks not cooked as requested. Grilled vegetables were very good.
Great medium made steak, Great sous for it. Great grilled chicken breast. Long waiting time but recommended.
MoreProbably one of the best steak you can have in Montevideo. Their “Baby Beef” is a must try!
MoreLittle did I know that most (and I mean mostplaces are closed on Sunday. A number of places in this market area are open on Sunday and attract a lot of locals and tourist alike. As a typical "market" restaurant the decor was dated, but functional. Most of the locals were ordering grilled meat of some kind so we followed suit. Good basic BBQ with no frills.
MoreWent there because they had the biggest fire & grill. The seafood barbecue was delicious, staff spoke English and was helpful& friendly. The atmosphere around the huge grill is great although it can get very hot if you sit too close to it.
MoreEnjoyed a fabulous lunch of grilled meat. Located at the Puerto Mercado in Montevideo. Busy, fun place!
MoreNice food, nice staff. Very expensive.
Great grilled meats, nice central location in the market for the cruise terminal
Shittiest place ever. Horrible service, not enough waiters to serve. They charge you just for sitting down. Dont expect much from the food either. Just go somewhere else.
MoreExcellent sirloins and bone-in ribeyes. The ribeye is an ABSOLUTE must try. Best piece of meat I have ever tried
MoreEnjoyable environment, great service, and good food. They do not charge the couvert if you have your meal in the balcony. One of the best options in the Mercado del Puerto.
MoreThe entrecot (steak filetwas really good.We went for launch and not many people inside so we experienced a fast service. The restaurant filled pretty fast.
MoreNice food but its bloody expensive!
Nice atmosphere, Good food but overpriced
