El Mofongo - Dominican restaurant in Hempstead, United States
Fernanda, Hector, and Martha hooked me up. This place is fantastic. Flavor is unmatched. As a guy coming out of Brooklyn, it’s good to have a place with real flavor. Highly recommend!!
Today I ran this place up to get some great dominican food. Let tell every body it was well worth going in. The owner was so pleasant to order from. The food was great, I want to try few different meals, loved them all. The thing that is great with owner, the get samples to taste that was a plus.
Owners and staff always pleasant and food always delicious. Love their tripe soup and pernil.
Food was exceptional and reasonably priced ! We had such a great night.
Delicious food, wonderful service, and an overall great experience! The proprietor was eager to give samples and we loved the pork ribs, rice and beans, and mofongo with chicken. The homemade hot sauce was amazing. Very kid friendly food and atmosphere as our 2 year old can attest. Highly recommended!
I guess all good things must come to an end. Sadly, this establishment has fallen off course on freshness and flavor. Ordered two Bartolo Colon mofongos for take out one evening and was very disappointed by the quality. The mofongo tasted old and dried out and you could tell the chicharrón used was dried out and probably from the weekend the gravy I got was all oil, the whole meal left a lot to be desired. This used to be my go to spot for fresh high quality great tasting mofongo. Unfortunately my search for consistently great tasting mofongo continues...
Amazing!!! Had the ribs, chicken stew, and mofongo. This place is the best. Just got back from Puerto Rico and had a lot of great Mofongo but this was better! Definitely worth the trip. Our daughter loves the chicken and rice with beans.
Little restaurant with cheeeful and friendly service, delicious Dominican food. We were offered to try anything before making our choices. Melt-in-your-mouth pork, ox tail, roasted eggplant and plantains in sweet sauce were on our dinner plates . All cooked to perfection, just like homemade 😋 👌 Thank you for this excellent experience!
Cheap and so good! Super friendly to new customers even giving us samples of the meat. Definitely a place to come back to.
Despite the complications with GrubHub, I managed to get take-out from this restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is great! I will continue to pick-up or get delivery from this place. It never disappoints!
Very good food. Seasoning a little much on some. Friendly lady. Place could use a spruce up
This place Gave me a uplifting feeling coming to Long Island. The food is great and the service is wonderful everyone come and find out for yourself! Food Of recommendation ? will be everything you see you won’t be upset !
I come into this place and love everything she cooks and bakes . Everything is homemade from scratch and with love . Everyone so welcoming and sweet feels like home from the food to the staff ❤️.
I wanted to try this new place that everyone is raving about. I called to make a big order at 7:15 in the evening. The kitchen was already closed and they didn’t have 2 of the first 3 things that I wanted. I told them to forget it and went to my regular place.
We were looking for a Spanish food restaurant and I googled it and this place came up first so headed that way all the way from glen cove and I must say it was worth the drive… Food is delicious and the service was excellent!!! The owner was very heart warming and made us feel like we was home!!! You have to go try it we will be back soon
First time going there after a disappointing experience with the place I was going to for Dominican food. The owner is super friendly and helpful here. Thank you ! Food was fresh and good. Also their empanadas are a must try.
El Mofongo was AMAZING I cannot begin explain how delicious this food was. I ordered online skeptical because there’s not a lot of great Dominican restaurants in the Long Island area. But I underestimated them because this was the best Spanish food I’ve tasted in years. Their mofongos are amazing, their not dry and whatever mofongo you get will satisfy your tastebuds. The white rice and black beans *chefs kiss*. AND the owners are the nicest and friendliest people in town. They are so welcoming and didn’t hesitate to give us samples of their food and a wonderful conversation. 10/10 I will be going there many more times, not only for the good food but for the amazing people.
Amazing!I’ll begin by saying that the owners Hector and Martha are incredibly friendly and welcoming! The food was amazing to say the least! We had the Pedro Martinez mofongo, white rice and black beans, also the pepper steak, maduros and everything was extremely tasty! We’ll definitely be going back for more! Thanks so much for an amazing experience Martha and Hector!
After reading the recent reviews, I Had high hopes for this place. Wow how awful. Strong Puerto Rican & Dominican background! So I say this as nice as I can. To the owner, get you some Dominican/Puerto Rican cooks or at least supervise and taste that food before it goes out.Awful food. Just awful. The pernil tasted like pure lemon and vinegar that’s its. That is not how we Sazon our food. I got a large plate because I was very hungry and paid $18 and change for my food which all went to the garbage. Came with white rice and pinto beans habichuelas which were ok and maduros I got 4 small tiny maduros for a almost $20 plate no way. Horrible food.If you are looking for authentic Dominican/Puerto Rican food this is definitely not the place.
First gen dominican american here, food was on point. They have jugo de chinola (passion fruit juicewhich is hard to find here in the states. It tasted just like paradise.Service was on point as well, servers are very attentive. We missed the owners but the owners son was amiable and made sure we enjoyed our meal felt welcome. This experience was so nostalgic, I loved it. We’ll be back for sure.
First let me tell you, they let you try the food first to see what you want and that had me sold for the steak .It was really really good, the flavoring was amazing . Ty
The best authentic Dominican food.. Everything they make is delicious.. Plus the signature Pistachios Tres Leche is to die for.. The owners, Chef Hector & Baker Martha are the most kindest & sweetest with everyone that walks in the door.. They make you feel very welcomed.. Service is on point..
The owner treated me and my girlfriend like family. So much hospitality and kindness. Not to mention the food is out of this world. If you’re ever in a bad mood, just come eat here and you’ll instantly be 100% happier. 😁
The service is greatAnd the sweet and green plantains mixed with the pork Monfongo is out of this world good. If you want great Monfongo this is the place to go.
Bangin!Everything was incredibly flavorful and tasted like it was made with love. If you want proper Latin food on the island this is the spot.Right when we walked in the owner/staff were very friendly and helpful. She gave us samples of everything we wanted to try to help us decide what we would like to order. The pork/rib combo was my favorite, the chicken was delicious as well. Our plates were massive combos of yellow rice & beans, pork/rib and chicken with sweet plantains. I don’t know how I managed to almost finish everything but it was too good not to.We were also given their home made hot sauce which was spicyyy (for me at leastand packed with a punch of flavor.I couldn’t leave without trying their tres leches, and it did not disappoint. Sweet but not too sweet, with hints of spices coming through. The best part is that it was sitting in the delicious dessert soup so you can soak the cake in for more flavor. They also have a new Nutella tres leches I will have to try the next time I visit. And their Dominican sodas are very tasty and a bit less sweet than Jarritos.
After seeing a feature on CBS’s The Dig, I informed members of my beloved tribe that we needed to head to this place and pick up a few “items” for dinner! This no frills eatery needs absolutely no frills because the food is BEYOND delicious❣️ From the pernil to the yellow rice EVERYTHING IS “Mmm-mmm Good!” The wife (of the husband-wife duo who are the proprietorsis so passionate about the food that they serve—until it is infectious❣️ And it spills over into the way she treats their customers; offering samples of any and all dishes if you have a hankering to taste—. And why wouldn’t you?! And speaking of their clientele? There was a stream of patrons—an actual rainbow coalition of hungry folks that graced the premises of El Mofongo during our visit… This place is so worth the trip❤️
The BEST Spanish food ever!!! And the owners are down to earth. Love them. Please show them love. Great prices, great food and delicious. You cant go wrong. Best tres leches dessert!!! ❤
The best mofongo spot ever!!! We always get the Manny Ramirez mofongo, not dry at all, very juicy, buttery, garlicky. There’s fried pork belly pieces in every bite that just takes it to the next level. Every time I step foot into this place Martha always makes me feel super welcomed. She’s always so nice and always wants to feed you! The cakes are soooo good! Must try everything!
Very good food and excellent service. Best 4 leches (four milkdessert any place. I drove 25 miles from the Bronx to Hempstead, Long Island, NY. Food was so good that I brought some home for tomorrow. My wife had mofongo with roasted chicken and salad. I had pepper steak Dominican style with white rice, beans and sweet plantain. Will be back soon. Prices are too reasonable. Definitely they care about their customers.
My husband and I saw this little gem of a restaurant on CBS news this morning. As it is a local restaurant we said we would try it today and we did. What a fantastic choice we made. We met Martha and Hector and they were just lovely welcoming and very kind. When we saw the food choices we had to buy many things… each one was better than the next. This little place is a gem!!! Run don’t walk to El Mofongo and enjoy every bite!! You will not be disappointed. 👏👏
Hi folks, my wife had the Pedro Martinez Mofongo (chicharronand she said that this was one of the best mofongos she has had in a while. (Hector, the chef/co-owner, was nice enough to reveal his secrets to a fresh and tasty mofongo). I had the pernil with a salad. The meat was juicy and flavorful. The skin was on-point crispy. One more thing...We ordered a piece of dominican cake and it was WOW. Going back soon to try more stuff
First time going there great experience. The reviews drew me in. I told my husband lets give it a try. I have no regrets. Hector is a great chef and his wife Martha gives great hospitality. The combination of the two make this place a hidden gem. I wish them well and pray that there place gets bigger because at the rate they are going they will need it.
The food is amazing and the people are so awesome. It was my first time, as Im out of town, and I wanted some good Dominican food. It was the highest rated restaurant near me and so I decided to try it. I ordered (takeoutthe chuletas, mofongo (pork belly), and 4 leches. The owners were super friendly and down to earth and even gave me extra samples of pernil, chicken, and sizeable sample (sliceof the pistachio cake. Everything I had tasted amazing, meat was on point and not over salted, portions were huge (mofongo can feed two adults). The samples definitely helped and now I know what Ill be going back for! Hands down great overall experience.
Wow amazing sancocho and quatro leches!!! Everything is made with love and you Can certainly taste it!!! Friendly service; highly recommend)))
All the ready food looked fresh and smelled amazing.I ordered the, Miguel Tejada, shrimp and chicken mofongo. The shrimp was excellent and the chicken even better, juicy and flavorful as you’d want it to be. Miguel would be proud! The staff was excellent, seemed to be family ran and operated. If it wasn’t, it sure felt like it.
Best Dominican/Puerto Rican food I’ve ever had! although the food was more expensive than what the menu advertised we still really loved it. The Malta Goya was my favorite. A couple people in our group also really like the desserts. Very home like Feel and A wonderful family that runs the place!
This is THE PLACE to be!!! The service is amazing and the owners are so nice and friendly! Marta is the sweetest lady ever and I will be coming here again for sure! She is so sweet and really makes you feel like you’re at home eating in your own kitchen. (With the best Dominican food ever of course!I came to Long Island to look at a college, and by chance we decided to stop at El Mofongo and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. You will not regret going here, it’s absolutely amazing in every way.
Excellent tasting Dominican food! You can taste that the chef(suses quality ingredients. There is no greasy after taste. The food tastes like it’s homemade. My husband is very picky and seldom likes any other food then what I prepare at home and he truly enjoyed and appreciated everything he ate here. The service is also excellent. The ladies make you feel at home. They are very generous and they offered us taste samples. We are looking forward to our next dining experience at El Mofongo!
Can’t go wrong with a restaurant named after my favorite food. Made to order but came out quick and was given some free samples while waiting. Left happy and full!
Looks are deceiving. From outside it doesnt look like much, but the food here is amazing! Delicious flavors, big portions and cheap prices. So glad we found this place! Also, they are super friendly here.
Great homey place. The food is authentic, staff are friendly and it feels like youve been invited to someones house. Great overall place to grab some good satisfying food.
Ok, so Im Hispanic/Latino and Ive eaten in a lot of Dominican restaurants in NYC and the Island and this place is by far the best Ive ever had and Ive been around for 50 years. The only place that out does it is the Dominican Republic itself. The owners and staff dont get any friendlier and Martha and Hector (the owners and chef respectivelymake you feel like family. Martha gave us samples of all the food displayed and it was ALL GOOD! Deciding what to eat was the hardest part! The only downside (if you can call it thatis the neighborhood its in. Unless you Google this gem of a place youd drive or walk right by it without knowing just how good this place is. So with that said this review doesnt do this place any justice. Come here for yourself, try the food and see if you agree with me. P. S.: I had the pork shoulder with yellow rice and pigeon peas, red beans, sweet plantains with a house salad with a homemade raspberry vinaigrette. Finished with fresh coffee, black with a touch of nutmeg. Mmmmm.
This place was awesome the lady who helped us was awesome! The food and service was outstanding. We got the pork belly mofongo, the pork and rice with gandules, tres leche, and pistachio cake. Definitely check this place out of you are in the area!
Took out some food here Friday night and the owners were very friendly to serve. We got a couple of platters and they give you satisfying amounts of food with your order. The food is ok and not really 5 stars as you see it on the ratings. The meats we ordered were extremely salty, dry and over seasoned. The rice was also dry and the beans with the gravey we got on the side did not taste fresh. Overall it was an average Dominican restaurant that focuses on quantity and not quality.
The BEST ever mofongo in NY. Warm and friendly ambiance. Attentive service. Home made flavor with fresh ingredients. A MUST try!!!!
Service was incredibly warm and friendly. Food was delicious and they even had vegetarian options!
I went there today with my wife; I found it thanks to all the great reviews on Google, yelp and everywhere... I Can guarantee you this is the best dominican restaurant in Nassau County. A+ customer service from the owner and the food is amazing as well. PS... They will give you food sample before you place your order.
The most amazing mofongo Ive had since Puerto Rico. Everyone is so welcoming its like going to your neighbors house to have dinner. Thanks you Martha & Hector
Delicious doesn’t even begin to describe the food that is served here. The staff there treats you like family. The portions and price are great. The food taste like a fresh home cooked meal. I wish they were close to me because VA needs places like this. Lovely people and awesome meal.
I actually yelped this place because my best friend and I were going to a show at the coliseum nearby and we wanted to eat before we watched the show... oh how happy we were that we went here!!! Let me tell you... I have eaten a good share of Dominican food but this place was not just good but a great experience. The lady who owns the place is a sweetheart and you can tell that the food is prepared with love. Everyone must go if they are anywhere in the vicinity. And definitely finish off your meal with some tres leches cake!! The piña colada tres leches cake is also to die for and just the regular Dominican cake is yum. If youve never had any type of Dominican dessert ever, you havent lived life to the fullest, lol! Dominican icing is like no other that Ive ever tasted. 👍🏼After eating our HUGE portions, we got the same huge portions to go of their must try chicken thigh/leg combo!!! Yummmm! The mofongo with the shrimp was nice and moist and you must have it fresh because once you take it home it will still be good but it wont be as good as when you have it while its freshly made. My best friend got the rice with the gandules with two different chicken stews which she devoured, mind you she originally said she wasnt even hungry. I originally got the rice con gandules also but with the beef stew but wrapped it to go after deciding to get the mofongo. When I got home I had that original plate and let me tell you how delicious it really was!!!Oh and the salad is seasoned with their own homemade dressing, its similar to Italian dressing, it was yummy. The boiled yucca was good but I wish I wouldve gotten the fried yucca instead because anything fried usually always tastes a pinch better, lol and I actually like onions with my yucca and I know some people dont, so I wasnt surprised when I saw no onions. And finally, the empanadas were amazing and huge, I personally preferred the beef over the chicken, but only because I loved the seasoning inside the beef, the chicken is milder in flavor but they both tasted so homemade!! (I forgot to take a pic of the empanadas)
