El Mesón de Cervantes - Spanish restaurant in Malaga, Spain
Rather special place serving pan-spanish food that stays true to the cuisine while bringing a fresh take on each dish. The boquerones with passion fruit and avocado were stunning and led to several more lovely plates. Service was friendly and mostly attentive We will definitely go again.
We were searching for an authentic Spanish foodie experience and found it here! Away from the touristy restaurants and bars, just 1-2 minutes walk outside of historic centre. We walked in, fingers crossed and felt a no would be issued but a big smile greeted us and we were quickly seated and warmly welcomed. We chose 5 half serve dishes to share and asked our waiter Sebastian to choose us a typical local red wine..A+ delivery of all. On departure we were warmly farewelled, a fabulous dining expand not too expensive for us 2 pilgrims
Wow the tuna was soooo good. Also the risotto was perfect! Best meal I had in Malaga and the staff was super sweet
Delicious food, ideal for sharing. Very welcoming staff who had great food/ wine recommendations. Highly recommend the pepper stuffed with cod.
This restaurant was amazing. From the incredibly efficient and kind staff (the lady taking our order especially), to the delicious food (couldnt decide which tapas I preferred because they were all so goodand nice interior. Just perfect! Would recommend and go back for sure.
We had a delicious dinner. The staff is excellent, friendly and welcoming. The recommended wine was perfect. If you go here you should definitely order the sweetbread. Its the crispiest you will ever get. The desserts are really good too. A definite must go place when visiting Malaga!
Great food, great wine, fast service, nice and authentic interior. Busy all night, make a reveservation 👌🏼
We have been here 6 times now and it started off amazing with some incredible food. Unfortunately, the last few times have been really poor with cold food being served, poor service, not by the hardworking lads who bring the food and clear your plates I hasten to add, and it aint cheap. Ive fallen out of love with the place. The A game has gone.
Sat here for about 5hrs drinking gin and wine accompanied by some great tapas
Whether its meat, veggies, dessert or wine, this place has it all. Impeccable taste and even better service. Absolutely the best restaurant I have visited in Malaga. Also, its suited for sharing portions and trying out different things! Highly recommend it!
1A - best restaurant in Málaga and a mouth-watering gourmet tour. A must for foodies! We (Family of Urscome to Méson several times a year and it is an excellent gastronomic experience every time with a wonderful pairing of food and wine.I think we have tried the menu several times and the kitchen team cooks just divinely. The risotto, for example, is the best we have ever had (and we are very often in Italy- superb! Not to make the other menus worse. Its just that everything sets your mouth wateringThe first class service cannot be praised enough. We literally feel like home and part of the Cervantes family/crew. Thank you Yolanda, Ali, Agostina and Team - you are the best! Un millón de gracias por todo ❤️The day after tomorrow we will go to one of the sister restaurants El Otro Tapeo. And if you prefer tender, juicy meat instead of Tapas, just go to Pampa. You wont be disappointed. Best addresses in Malaga!Hasta la próxima vezFabio y Carmela
Beautifully presented food, reasonably priced, attentive service, excellent wine selection. The place has a great buzz.Highly recommended.
Delicious food, sangria and amazing people. Absolute must try in Malaga5 stars tapas ⭐️5 stars drink ⭐️5 stars staff ⭐️
Great experience with lovely surprise menu, with delicious pulpo and paprika with codfish. We had great service. I would only not order the tiramisu again as it was on the wet side.
Super restaurant in the old part of Malaga. Service was excellent and the menu chosen for us. Excellent wine as well. We look forward to visit the newly opened restaurant in Copenhagen as well.
Great sea-food and fish tapas. And I mean great. Original recipe ideas, loved the tuna with hummus and capers and many more. Returned for another dinner. Fine dining at its best!
AB-SO-LUTE-LY fantastic. We were recommended this restaurant by a friend. Oh my, best recommendation ever. Absolutely loved everything about this place; the interior (tasteful, cosy, classy), the staff, even though some of them didn’t speak Englisch they were so helpful and fun! We’ve tried 3 different glasses of red wine because we couldn’t fine what we were looking for. But ended up with a really lovely bottle Ramon Bilbao (Riojabecause of the great advise form the staff. Loved the hands-on owner and her manager (didn’t get their names unfortunatelywho obviously gathered a great group of co-workers around them which made our diner and stay feel really welcoming, fun and friendly. The restaurant has an extensive selection of wines. Sitting in the back of the restaurant we could enjoy the open kitchen and the staff creating our fabulous dishes. Sometimes an open kitchen can be loud and disturbing, but this was a joy to watch and not noisy at all. We shared the tapas quiche and tuna tataki with passion fruit sauce for starters. Both highly recommended! And then the salmon with humus and spinach and (not sure if this is correctthe rump steak with foie gras sauce. The sauce!! We just died and went to heaven. We wanted to finish off with a dessert, but unfortunately we already had enough to eat. We hope this restaurant stays as a hidden gem. It’s on the top of our list of restaurants the next time we visit Malaga. Cant wait.
One of the best places Ive eaten at for a long time! Very delicious, nicely served and quick service. Id recommend ordering half portions and trying different dishes.
Incredibly efficient. Its one of those places that will tell you what to eat and drink before you even get there. Pretty much everything ee tried was top of the line and Id suggest trying the local wine, which Ive added as a picture. Superb! And especially well priced given its Vivino rating. All Id say is dont order too much as its very filling and you can always order more. The wild boar stew and Argentinan steak are also just okay. Stick to classic Spanish tapas (plus the mushroomsand you cant go wrong.
This is our favorite restaurant in Malaga. The food is always exquisite imaginative and prepared preferably.
Tuna tataki was a great starter , totally recommend this. Grilled octopus was cooked well & wasnt chewy, beef rumpstick with foie gras sauce didnt taste much foie yet surprisinngly good. Figs flan with sweet malaga wine dessert was too sweet for my taste. We loved this place as their service is amazing with great wine recommendation. Their bartender would also come up and make a unique cocktail for u if u want as well. Do reserve before hand as this place is always crowded even during weekdays.
Visited twice during our weeks holiday as it was so good. Our waitress was brilliant and recommended a fantastic red wine and to order 2 of each dish to allow us to share. The barman made a cocktail for my daughter the 1st night- which was fabulous and a different one on thr 2nd night and some fabulous G&Ts. Pricey but worth every penny. Pigs cheek dish was my favourite. Puddings were awesome too
Beautiful place with very friendly staff, it was like to be at home and being attended by formidable people, the food was delicious, full of flavour. Typical Spanish Andaluz Restaurant. My husband and I enjoyed being there having an amazing dinner with one of the best staff we have been attended by. I recommend El Mesón de Cervantes 100% I am sure you will love it as we both did. Congratulations
We returned to our favourite restaurant in Malaga after a five year absence. It has gone through a refurbishment which is nice but some of the charm and friendliest has sadly disappeared. However the tapas remains the best in town lots of originality and presentation.Downside waiters and waitresses don’t look like they’re enjoying themselves. Whilst we had two meals in the back section behind the wine rack the service was good but quick, didn’t want you taking time between tapas to savour the moment, they don’t want you lingering. The bar section completely disorganized people leaving and paying the bill because servers had forgotten to place orders. Hopefully things will improve.I for one will return again as long as the chefs remain.
Great staff. Lovely barman, with great English, and a very knowledgeable main wine lady who managed to upsell me to a €12 GLASS of red, no mean feat! Good food too.
Fabulous Tapas Bar 6 of us ate here and didnt leave hungry. Bill included 2 cocktails and 2 bottles of wine and in total was about £35 per head. Definitely will go back
The Sardines with figs and tomato chutney was sweet and so good. Patatas bravas also good
Lovely restaurant and superb food. However, our experience was marred by the waitress, she suggested we have six tapas however, we had already eaten tapas and only wanted two more. Her whole demeanour changed dramatically when we ordered only 2 tapas - "You only want 2?" She then completely ignored us to the point it made us feel very uncomfortable and so we left with a slightly bad taste!
The food was incredibly good, it is nice to have different size options. Most of the staff speaks english. Overall a perfect place to spend a special evening and pay a decent amount of money for fine dining tapas, creative main courses and delicious wine.
Best restaurant I have been in Malaga. Really authentic, delicious tapas, friendly staff. Book a table beforehand.
Wow, amazing food and service. If you are not sure, simply ask for recommendationsThe service is friendly and the food yummyFor the wine, just make sure to specify your budget as a glass of wine can be 13 EUR. Overall, very good experience.
Amazing food, service, ambiance. Definitely worth a visit.
Amazing Food, wonderful staff and a fantastic experience had not only once but twice over the weekend. We did not want to be disappointed by another restaurant not meeting these standards, so we booked both nights of our stay.Old friends coming together and new friends gained after what feels like a lifetime of restrictions.Multicultural experience and what a wonderful place to have been recommended.
We really enjoy this restaurant! Anchovies with guacamole were delicious. We also tried octopus, lamb and beef: every dish was tasty, and well cooked! We especially thank the italian waitress, really nice and helpful!
This was recommended to me by locals even though they did say its more traditional Spanish rather than local Andalusia cuisine. As a visitor I cant really differentiate that however I was very impressed overall. The menu offers variety of dishes and having tried various tapas, it was very delicious. The staff was very nice and supportive. There is a probably reason why its recommended by locals and tour guides.
1 thing that keeps me away from giving higher rating. The food is top: For sure one of the best in Malaga,So is the service. Friendly and fast. The 1 thing that i hate about any place is if the try to rip you off.3 weeks ago for the the same type of wine (Verdejoi was charged 3 Euro something, This time they charged us 7 Euro. This is just bad considering the wine is ok but not a top wine and this leaves a bad aftertaste.
Some of the best tapas I had during a 3 month stint in Malaga. Also has quite a few vegetarian options - tried the majority of them when I brought my veggie dad and we were impressed. Can get very busy so be sure to book.
I had two wonderful experiences in this great establishment. Both times the food was absolutely delicious, the service was accommodating, kind and knowledgeable, and the vibe in the restaurant was lively without being too loud. Perfect for a memorable dinner.Worth every penny, you wont be disappointed. If I ever come back to Malaga, I will be sure to have dinner at this amazing restaurant again.
Delicious dishes, warm welcome from the hosts, it was a pleasure. A bit too crowded, I waited a long time before having a seat, giving my order and being served. Overall, this is a very good place, and more enjoyable than the ones I had tried before (particularly because they are nice people).
Lovely place! Great food, service and drinks. The whole place gives off a very familiar feeling with the owners checking in on you and making sure all is good. Will definitely visit again!
Yes, yes, yes! Great selection of tapas for vegetarians! Keep in mind that the place is tight and cosy, and your tapas might not even fit on the table, however the food is delicious! Highly recommend trying goat cheese and berry salad, it goes well with the rest of the tapas!
They are very passionate about what they do, you can see it in the food, service, environment. On our only evening we spent in Malaga, they were very hospitable to make space for us şast minutw so that we could enjoy the incredibly tasty tapas prepared with most fresh ingredients! Thank you!
This is a great restaurant. Seems really popular with tourists and locals. We went for dinner and were not disappointed. The dishes were excellent and the wine was delicious too. It was very busy but the waiting staff were great. I recommend you book if you want to eat here.
The service tried to be friendly but it was close to the point of making me uncomfortable. I can still feel the heat of the old ladys breath on my ear.The food is ok. My fish didnt taste that fresh, the steak was good but the potates undercooked and the salad inedible. The cheese, however, was excellent and the mushrooms also good. The wine list is excellent and I perhaps I just picked their weaker dishes. The table next to me were also determined to scream at one another which probably didnt help this review
Yes i am agree i was not expecting so good food😋 We were 3 and all of us loved the food… Many of them that we ate were fish and were so delicious and different 🤤 Seems everyone knows this place it’s big restaurant but very crowded so it is better to make reservation and go there a little earlier or during the week time … But for sure you should try😇After eating so much my daughter even ate brownie and that one was nice too😊We tried many places in the center of Malaga and almost all of them werequite OK but this one was exceptionally good 👍…😅
Lovely place but very busy so best to book. Wasnt expecting too much as thought just a tourist place but the tapas were excellent and far better than normal. Lots of different unusual ones. Very friendly service. I had some lovely wine bu the glass. More expensive but worth it.
Excellent tapas restaurant in Malaga - one of our absolute favourites along with the El tapeo de Cervantes next door. Keep up the good work and see you next time. The tuna kebab was one of our favourites yesterday, but all the five portions we had were very delicious (thanks for the waitress/chef for nice recommendations).
Left a lot to be desired. Lots of good reviews so I was expecting better. Quality of food was decent, nothing special. They used a store bought guacamole on one of their expensive tuna dishes (from Mercadona), which I was extremely surprised with. Then the service was terrible, very very slow and they kept trying to make you order more. The older lady, maybe the owner or manager was nice and friendly, but that’s about it.
You can have tapas or a dinner. Dishes are refined and ingredients are good. That is why prices are a little bit over the average. Wine is the speciality but you can have beer too. Staff is also nice and the place inside is good.
WOW just WOW! Have no words how beautiful our experience was at this restaurant. From the outside it didn’t look as nice as I thought but oh my, entering the premises was a whole different experience. The waiter was the kindest, always smiling and at our disposal at all times. We started with some cava and starters, then followed by the mains and a bottle of wine. We ended up with desert and as it was a birthday surprise dinner, the staff came and sang “happy birthday” together with all the guests in the restaurant. It was a beautiful dinner in a beautiful restaurant surrounded by beautiful people. Highly recommend!
