El Hamburger - Hamburger restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
It is a dive, in the truest sense of the word, worthy of that certain Food Network show. While the patties are moe of a slightly flattened ball of meat, the simple seasoning allows the smoky grilled meat flavor to be center stage. Fair warning, they do not pollute their burgers with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles or condiments; but they do offer the typical burger dressings as a side item for you to add yourself. The cool Ocean breeze and beautiful ocean view makeup for the lack of air conditioning in there covered opened air dining area. Well worth stopping by if you are in Old Town, Condado or Miramar. Be sure to grab a Magna, one of the award-winning local Puerto Rican breweries beers, to go with the burger that will take you back to hanging around the backyard barbecue grill.
Very tasty American Burger and Batatas (sweet potatoFritas, the wait was a bit but very much with it. Got the fried onions too, I guess grilled. So good. They won’t let dogs inside (no outdoor eating). Also I guess you have to ask for the lettuce & tomato, otherwise not included or at least did not put into the take out bag. Server was friendly.
Wow hell to the yes. So glad it started raining and I had to seek shelter. This is a no nonsense good old school spot for burgers and an ice cold beer.
super cheap burger joint. it’s fast food, but not really. one of the few late night places we encountered on our trip. cool vibes.
First time and it wont be my last. Prices are great and the simple hamburgers are great.
It always delivers. Consistent quality and flavors. Simple menu. The main character is the burger itself. My fav is the gorgonzola and the sweet potato fries.
Best burger hand down. Good prices for a great burger
The worst burger I’ve ever had. Couldn’t comprehend the amazing reviews this place had. Dry burger with no flavor. No seasoning on anything. If bad bunny knew this place existed he wouldn’t say he’s from Puerto Rico. I would’ve rather ate sand from the beach than this meal.
Burgers were ok. My dad took me here because he remembers it being so good in his childhood days but it definitely has changed and burgers are mediocre.
A local legend that has stayed the same over many visits. Always busy, but still quick service to the table both to take the order and to bring the food. The atmosphere is great here and it is right across from the ocean, so amazing views and lots of people watching.
Didnt like this play the burger are very small, they charge extra for everything. To hat a burger supposed to have. So if you want lettuce, tomato, onion, or mayo on your burger they charge extra. You only get the meat and the bread thats all you want mayo thats extra you need to paid everything else you have to paid extra to get a piece of lettuce also fries are extra THEY Dont Disinfect OR CLEAN THE TABLE AFTER ONE CUSTOMER LEAVES AND ANOTHER ONE COMES IN. I DIDNT NOT LIKE THERE SERVICE AT ALL. I WAS BETTER OF GETING ONE NUGGET FROM MCDONALDS. THAN EATING THERE BURGERS HERE. IM NEVER GOING BACK look at the size of the $7 dollars burgers. The fork is almost half the sizes of the burgers so you decide. I personally dont recommend this place !!!
Burgers were really good but the fries were perfectly cooked!
Good, quick burgers and kind staff. Fries and onion rings are great.
Last week went back to try El Hamburger , and once again it is the best hamburger in town. Didnt give it the 5 stars it deserved , because they told me they no longer make their great onion rings.Just checking today, to see if the owner has taken action to once again serve the best hamburger in town. Did he improve the meat quality ?4 months ago I visited El Hamburger and was disappointed. Until then it used to be the best hamburger in town.. I was disappointed by the poor meat quality. Apparently, they have changed their food distributor. The hamburger meat left a lot to desire.
Great place to eat home made hamburgers at an affordable price. I order a hamburger with bacon french fries and soda for just $10. Salad is available at an extra cost. Serving size is reasonable. The amount of bacon is more than expected. Very delicious. The waiter was very polite and attentive to all our needs. The only cons is that the restaurant does not have air conditioner. Only ceiling fans. Its a bit hot inside so better sit under one of the ceiling fans. Room and bathroom are very clean. Waiting time is reasonable like 15 minutes to have your order on the table served.
The hamburgers are excellent at this lo ration going to viejo San Juan, so tasty, and cheap comparing with other places selling similar products. All burgers are real beef meat, hand made. I loved Rochefort hamburger. They also have kids menu for the ones with little ones.
Best fast food! Great ingredients and is not expensive. No air conditioner. Small parking
Burgers were good, not quite what I was expecting but still good. The place has a fun vibe and about a ten minute walk from the beach. The patties were super thick, making them smaller medallions, so it was hard to keep the lettuce tomato onion from slipping around.
This is the local hamburger joint. It’s very inexpensive, great people, great food. It’s easy to find.Best time to go, mid-afternoon, after the lunch crowd and before the evening rush. This place stays packed with good reason.I can eat with my team grandson (I did say teenfor under $20 including tip!
The service was fast and efficient. The place was clean but too hot (no air conditioning and the fans didnt move the air very well. ). The food was ok. Not the best burgers but not the worst either.
This is a great place to make a stop for a really great burger, fries and ice cold Medalla! 5 out of 5 experience and will definitely make a stop the next time were in San Juan.
This is the best simple burger ever. They make this with magic. I first tried this place 20 years ago, and the last time was 15 years ago. Until now, and the simple burger is heaven.Grilled over a an open flame, cheese melted as the burger removed. Serves simple with on a bun. I added bacon and the caramelized onions. The are small size but the patty is thick ball just small than a baseball. They are season to perfection. Nothing needed. I added mustered and ketchup to all my burgers. But without it these are special. Fries are crispy on the outside and soft inside.Best part is burger, fries and a drink for around $10. Forgot tourist prices here. Add bonus, is it is open air restaurant with views of the ocean!! Thank me later. :)
This place is a gem. Nothing fancy just good old fashioned burgers. You can smell this deliciousness from down the street. A great place to get a late night bite
You wouldnt think these burgers would be any good, having lower prices than McDonalds... they were the best burger Ive had in a very long time. Extremely affordable and fast. 1 might get you full, but having a second wont break your pocket.
If you really hungry an a hamburger lover ¡this is your place! The bread yummy, meat tasteful, French fries crispy, service great! Get ready to enjoy a nice time in a great local place, low priced and remarkable customer service
A friend, and native Puerto Rico know, recommended this place to me as the “always dependable El Hamburger.” And indeed it is, dependable. The first time you go for the food. The second time you go for the experience, or because it’s four in the morning in the bar is just closed and you want to eat something after a night of drinking.I found the burgers were all well done. You had no choice of like medium or medium rare. As a result, they were not as flavorful as when a burger is cooked medium or medium rare and is very juicy and has great flavor from the meat. I will also say these burgers were on the greasy side.
Highly recommend trying out this place if you are visiting Old San Juan. Its quite popular so it would be better to go around lunch time on a weekday. Parking could be a challenge so consider other modes of transport. The burgers are great, although the patties could be made a bit more flat.
About a mile out of old San Juan you’ll find a cozy little local restaurant that is well worth your time. There’s almost always a line but it moves really fast. As of February 22 you need a mask to walk in the restaurant but then you’re fine at the table. The staff is very friendly and accommodating here. They make you feel right at home. There is a fine selection of different hamburgers that are some of the best you’ll find. They have yucca and sweet potato and normal fries I would recommend trying the sweet potato they were really good. Two of these hamburgers is probably a normal meal. Come on in for a unique experience. But you got a try the bacon burger it’s one of my favorites that bacon is fried just right I’m telling you!
Everything taste delicious!!! Love the chicken burguer, so far my favorite. Its a good place to sit and just chill out with friends and family.
This was the best kept secret hole in the wall(but not dirty or anythingrecommended by a friend who lives here. The menu is very basic. The burger is also just 3 ingredients: chargrilled meat(in a flattened ball shapebread and cheese. You need to order fresh salad and fixing a, grilled onions, mayo all extra as sides. They have interesting Roquefort cheese and wine burgers extremely delicious. They also have chicken tuna and other types of burgers but are most famous for their beef. I love their sweet potatoes fries, skinny crispy perfect. Competes with my expensive gourmet burger place in California In both burger and sweet potatoes fries! The only one downside(I might make request different in future if I return: the bread is soft cold…they really need to toast it, maybe with a hint if margarine or butter)
Great place to grab a burger. I wish I had this burger place in my neighborhood. Nothing fancy, but you get what you want which is a good "burger"!The price you see in the menu is just a burger. If you want to have lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles, dont forget to order add-on ensalada :)
The first time I came to this location was 4 years ago and to our amazement it was pretty good. At that time I believe this was the first time I tried the sweet potato fries, we ate 2 burgers because the first didn’t fill us up enough I guess. Well on June 18 when arrived in San Juan my uncle bought a takeout order of 8-10 burgers, he did that for us and for his sister in law and mother in law. Their were some left over burgers when we needed it. Those burgers are made ready for us to eat I tell you! They’re not frozen patties that you’ll find in a fast food. I would say their burgers without the combo is a fair deal. I saw that they have artisan ice cream which could be good. I may want to point out that the interior of this location is quite simple such as the table and chairs, I wouldn’t eat here every so often. I wish they had bigger napkins at least if their was a mess involved eating while sitting.
The prices are affordable. The service is good. Friendly staff. And the ambience reminds me of home.
We were staying at an Airbnb close by so we decided to walk over for dinner. Their drive thru line is crazy. Walking up to eat inside we didnt have to wait at all. It is open with fans. The burgers are plain or with cheese and if you want veggies that cost extra. The burgers tasted delicious but they looked more like large meatballs. I had to smash mine down to be able to bite it. Still delicious though. We also ordered fries, onion rings and mozzarella sticks. Everything was made fresh and tasted great.
Our Uber driver recommended this place, the oldest hamburger place in San Juan. We asked for a menu but there are none...just hamburgers she said. They did have a few sides and they serve drinks. The food was very fresh, onion rings tasted like they were made to order. The Pina coladas were excellent! Short walk from Escambron beach. There was not a wait when we arrived but once we were seated, a long line started. Its somewhat open air with large windows so birds do fly in.
I was at a beach close by and decided to walk over to El hamburger because it has so many reviews and Im sure glad I did. The burgers here are delicious!! Super simple menu you got burgers and burgers and youre options are cheese or no cheese and you can add bacon. Everything is served on the side lettuce, tomato, onions etc... Onion rings were delicious! Ill be back tomorrow for lunch again after the beach for sure.
Great local burgers! It’s a classic. Must try!
Un clásico!!! Excellent all beef burgers. This is a Puerto Rico’s staple. Located in Old San Juan and has a North Atlantic ocean view. I love the french fries, batatitas fritas, and burger and salad. Grab a local beer! It has parking.
We went to the restaurant to order meal. The line is long, local people likes this restaurant. We were able to use English to order. They don’t have fresh tuna only canned tuna, so I have to change my order from tuna to combination burger. The wine burger doesn’t have mush wine flavor. Other burgers were so so. I ordered Sprite as drink and got a can of Sprite!
The photos are of the view in front of the place and of the street the place is located. This place is an oldie. It has been opened since the 60s. I used to eat here all the time 20 years ago. Came back to visit and the prices still fair but the hamburger quality not the same. Still it is a good place to eat.
Really great little local place recommend by our Airbbnb host as a true “must do” San Juan joint. We walked down to the beach and stopped on the way back. The burgers (see menu pictureare simple yet delicious. They are kind of a round ball patty format so when you stack it high with the supplied lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles you get quite the large stacked burger. I got the Roquefort with bacon and it was yummy! The fries were super crispy and hot. We also got the Yuka fries and those were excellent, especially the accompanying sauce that comes with them.Overall, I’d call this a must do if you are in the area for a few days.If you find this review helpful, please consider liking it so others may find it as well.
The burger was amazing! Very good vegetables on the side ketchup on the table comes with fries or onion rings and I believe you can get another side as well. The experience was amazing and the customer service made it so.
Ex-Pat assessment: Puerto Rican In-N-Out only better. County Fair style french fries and sweet potato fries. COLD bottled beer.
My friend is a sweet heart, she ordered me El Churry takeout because my flight arrives in PR at 10PM, and everything is closed at that time. I was starving and even though starvation is the best seasoning, I know it was a good wrap. I love how that wrap had a PR twist of that fried plantain in it instead of fries, how smart. El Churry made my first night in PR whole, if you know what I mean.
Ive been coming to this Hamburger Spot since I was a Kid and for the Past 30 Plus years they have kept the Same taste and feel to the Place a Must! if youre Visiting El Viejo San Juan in Puerto Rico.
We stayed in Condado, PR right on the lagoon and this place was a 3 minute Uber ride over! The atmosphere is casual and fast paced! We receive our food maybe three minutes after ordering, but everything could have been cooked a tag but longer! Also, our waitress didn’t speak English, so there were some questions about the menu left unanswered and one of the burgers we received being the wrong item! I think the food would have been great if it was cooked a little longer! What we found nest is that the burger was in the form Of a round ball.
While this place doesnt have a vegan burger yet it is still a classic in PR. I had yucca fries, sweet potatoe fries and regular fries with a side of pickles while my family enjoyed their classic burgers. They have been in business a long time and while I never had a burger there I always hear good things about it.
$4.40 Bacon cheeseburger, $2 side of onion rings. Burger was medium to well, fairly juicy, and “cooked to order”. Burgers are a bit on smaller side, so don’t hesitate to grab two if you’re hungry. Great crispy bacon and nicely done double fried onion rings. All for less than $7! Worth a stop in!
It was good, nothing not to like. I was recommended this place by a half dozen people as being not just the best burger place in San Juan, but one of the best restaurants period. Maybe the hype was too much, but while I found it very good, it wasnt life changing. Prices are inexpensive and service was ok, so if youre looking for something quick, good, and inexpensive, this will definitely fit the bill.
This seems to be the Go To spot for burgers if you are in San Juan. It is a good sized place that is always packed. The burgers are kinda like large meatballs with a good char on them. If you want lettuce, tomatoes, onions and/or pickles then you have to order a ‘salad.’ Everything was good, fairly price and came out quickly considering the crowd. It is worth a stop if you are in the area and craving a burger. PLUS, unlike Burger King and McDonalds, you can get beer with your burgers and turn it into an adult happy meal.
