El Gato Negro Tapas Manchester - Tapas restaurant in Manchester, United Kingdom
As soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome. We were greeted with a nice busy atmosphere and great staff. The food was delicious. We had 7 dishes between 2 people and a bottle of wine and left feeling very satisfied. My favourite was the lamb skews, meat balls and breaded cheese.
The food was so good here. The meat dishes were definitely my favourite The lamb and the rib was to die for. Staff were really friendly and the meals kept flowing didnt have to wait ages for it. Think the rib takes the longest but tells you on the menu. Will definitely go again and recommending to friends
Really wanted to enjoy it here but wouldn’t return. Better tapas available with better service in the city centre. One of our dishes never arrived and when we queried it with the waiter he first said it was on its way. After we’d eaten all other dishes we asked again and the waiter advised we hadn’t ordered anything else. When the bill came, the missing dish was present and there was no apology for the waiter’s earlier mistake nor for charging us for it. We made sure to ask to remove the service charge.
Estupendo! This took me back to all my favourite places in Barcelona, Madrid and Mallorca. The mojo rojo is outstanding, have a bikini and the meatballs. They will bring you joy
Whole-heartedly liked every single dish. The beef short rib is tender and flavorful. The tiger prawns too.
Award winning restaurant by Simon Shaw and wow, did this place impress 😍The place is huge! Way bigger than we thought with a roof terrace for those sunny days.Taste 💖💖💖💖💖 [exceptional]Incredible, just incredible. The photos don’t do it justice but this has to be our top Spanish tapas restaurant in Manchester for sure, it lived up to the expectations.Service 💖💖💖💖💖 [exceptional]The quality of everything was very high, the service was great (at table and very attentative). We went on a weekend when it was fairly busy but didn’t feel any impact to our service due to this. I imagine on a quieter day it’s even better! To top it off, the wine selection was really good too, when you’re having tapas, who doesn’t love a good glass of red?!Vibe 💖💖💖💖🤍 [really, really good]The vibe was great upstairs on the higher floor, we didn’t try out lower. If you do, we’d love to know your thoughts!Instagramibility 💖💖💖💖🤍 [really, really good]It’s not a ‘pose’ for a backdrop type place but you’re too busy eating, soaking in the great atmosphere to care. Plus, if you do want a quick picture it definitely won’t be a bad shot by any means!Price 💖💖💖🤍🤍 [good: as expected]Is on the higher end so save this spot for a special occasion, or not… it’s totally worth it in our eyes but expect a slightly higher price tag!Insta&Tiktok: UKFOODBESTIES
Really underwhelming food for my husband and I. The overall taste of the tomatoes for the Catalina bread were not great. No flavor and there was no garlic taste. The grilled octopus is the only reason I am giving two stars. Waiter was not attentive and forgot to put our drink order in! We were two tapas in when we finally had to ask about it. I was really surprised that this place wasn’t as good as I thought. Won’t be back
One of the nicest tapas places out there. We have tried all of the veggie tapas dishes (apart from the goats cheese which was unavailableas well as olives and bread. All was delicious with some unique and unexpected flavours. The desserts were excellent too. The service was a bit slow at times but good overall. It’s a shame they don’t do jugs of sangria as £9 per glass is a bit expensive!
Loved our trip to El Gato, we managed to grab a last minute table upstairs on Friday afternoon - the staff were very friendly throughout! The prawns where the pick of the bunch but also very much enjoyed Salt Cod Croquetas, potatas bravas and asparagus. Well definitely be coming back!Update: Returned and it was just as fantastic!
Excellent service and the chefs table was great. The chef who was at our station was friendly and chatty. It was made clear before we ordered that the service charge is optional so it sounds as if the restaurant have taken on board feedback from previous reviews. Our favourite dishes were the asparagus and cauliflower plates. The price is a little high but in our opinion it was an experience worth paying for, at the chefs table at least.
My 1st time here and love the f&b ordered . Very good service by the waiter and waitress here . I had a great time here . And end up with My belated birthday surprise drinks and bday cake. Awesome place ever ❤️❤️❤️
What started of as a promising experience of a real food adventure ended in a disaster. Let me start from the beginning, we were seated promptly the waitress who served us was very pleasant and cheerful and happy, our food was served and apart from the short ribbed beef everything else was OK. My issue was when the waitress brought our bill and a discretionary service charge was added, the key word discretionary. As soon as I had said please take this off the happy cheerful waitress changed her attitude and made us feel very uncomfortable. The service was fine it wasn’t exceptional if you’re expecting a tip just for saying hello and being pleasant then you need to re evaluate because that’s not exceptional service and giving us looks of disgust and changing from being happy to ‘can’t wait to get rid of us’ isn’t going to make us feel like we should tip you, it makes us feel like we’re glad we didn’t because you were not genuine. El Gato please train your staff to behave better.
I was today with my husband. Restaurant small but food amazing.. My favourite beef skewers.. Tender, succulent.. Outstanding.. Highly recommended
Went for a late lunch.tapas lovely except squid over done n rubbery .I mentioned it and they didnt charge us but didnt notice my bill n they added a drink we didnt order. The place is really spanish and staff so nice.
What a fantastic place. The food was exceptional, the restaurant was clean and bright and beautifully presented. Wait staff were friendly and service was fast.We had a couple of cocktails each and a selection of meat, fish and veg dishes to share. Everything was delicious and the portion sizes were just right. The bifold doors were open on to a sunny King Street and the outdoor seating area was perfectly spaced out and very tidy. Not heaving with litter and smokers.Wonderful food, an altogether lovely afternoon. I can’t wait to go again. Thank you.
One of the best place in Manchester. Perfect for every occasion from lunch to dinner to drink only.Food is delicious and staff amazing. Really friendly environment and great vibe. What don’t miss - Octopus and Albariño.
Poor food at a ridiculous price and they added a £7.93 service charge to the bill which you can ask to be taken off. Two of us had 3 tapas each and 3 drinks £87.23 which had the food been really good I would not mind. The salt cod croquettes were tasteless and hard potato in them, the squid were nice but just nice and the tiger prawns £12 for 4 were disappointing. Go to El Rincon a real Spanish tapas restaurant fantastic food half the price.
Great tapas restaurant built over several levels. Always good food and service. The chorizo and beef short rib tickled my taste buds the most on this trip. Love this place in the summer when they slide open the front window doors and the retractable roof 🙌🏽
Really great food and wine selection.Nice lively atmosphere, staff quick and attentive. But, really the stars are for the food. There were 6 of us and we had a wide selection of things, but my number item was the goats cheese croquettes. Several people said the calamari was their top and some the meatballs. All in all though the food is just brilliant.
I’ve been traveling for three main cities in England London Liverpool and Manchester and I’ve tried a lot of restaurants but this one is the best of the best restaurant I’ve ever triedSpecial thanks to David
Great decor and polite staff, food tasty but expensive!overall its nice place to visit but be prepare for hefty bill.
On Sunday afternoon, my boyfriend and I went to this restaurant. The atmosphere was quite and accommodating. Our table had a good view and the building was so beautiful and vintage. We ordered french martini, tapas, ham, lamb, crispy squid, etc. All was so delicious. We really enjoyed our Lunch.
Sat on the rooftop terrace with lovely food and cocktails! Bliss 🤗
This was my first visit here and it certainly wont be my last.I am a home cook and cook from scratch, cooking foods from around the world. This was a real treat for me having a day off cooking. The food food was superb as was the staffI couldnt fault anything. The best sangrias too.All of the food was so delicious 😋I made this too for my family a few days after(Last 10 photos).I am looking forward to my next visit.
Went in for a late afternoon tapas with my girlfriend before the Liam Gallagher concert in Manchester. We didn’t have a reservation however I would recommend booking ahead as it was really busy (I think we were pretty lucky to get a table). We had 5 dishes between the two of us and all 5 were absolutely brilliant. The meatballs probably being the best of the lot!The service was great and the staff were really attentive. Would 100% recommend to anyone as this was easily the best tapas I’ve had outside of spain.
Lovely atmosphere, sat at the chefs table and had an amazing time observing the chefs and seeing how professional and friendly they are! Food was absolutely delicious, the serving staff was friendly, and helpful! Definitely recommend, amazing experience!
Excellent. Seated Immediately, Place Was Buzzing Without Being Cramped And Over Populated. Very Comfortable Surroundings, Top Floor With The Roof Terrace Open Was Very Pleasant. Waitress Was Very Attentive Without Being Overbearing Or Cheesy. Food Was Great, First Plate Arrived Very Quickly And Others Followed Soon After. Flavours Were Great, Portions Were Spot On, Prices Were Great. Would Definitely Recommend And Definitely Return
Very busy over 3 floors, had tapas at bar. Staff really friendly great quality and variety of Tapas. Definitely recommend.
Nice food, I would recommend to try the crispy fried baby squid, it is delicious! The sangria is refreshing and good too.But the jamón serrano is missing something....
Good service. And cocktails too.Love those little dishes and usually 4-6 for two person. You got to taste a lot of different flavours.Recommend![please see my uploaded photos for food names.
Really nice place it covers maybe 4 floors the atmosphere is very chilled the food was amazing i had 6 different tapas and desserts and a few cocktails the service was excellent will defo go back.
Amazing food, top quality. Would happily eat here again. Sangria was said to be top notch!
Visited for lunch on Saturday. The food was amazing. Every single dish was first class. The staff were great and the wine choice was awesome as well. The venue is lovely as well. I recommend booking well in advance though as we got lucky but heard them having to turn lots of people away.
I took my partner for her birthday here on a Sunday. Amazing food and service. Would highly recommend coming here, looking forward to visiting again.
The restaurant had a nice ambience, busy but not too crowded. We visited on a Tuesday evening. The host showed us to our table promptly (we had a reservation so didnt have to wait)The menu suggested 5-6 tapas dishes for 2 people which I felt was more then enough. We ordered Salt cod croquetas, Pan-fried hake fillet, Chargrilled lamb skewers, Chargrilled beef fillet skewers, Patatas bravas and Spiced aubergine. All but one dish did not disappoint. The beef tasted a bit powdery (probably slightly overcooked). My standout dishes were the lamb, hake and croquetas so would certainly recommend those. For dessert we had Turrón crème Catalan, which was silky smooth - a lovely treat to end the meal. All in all a great little tapas restaurant, worth a visit for sure.
Not sure what the fuss is about but we were quite disappointed after dining here. All the dishes were unfortunately mediocre. It’s a nice restaurant though, going over 3 floors. The service was attentive and cheery, and the cocktails were yummy. We had the cod croquettes which were a bit dry and doughy in texture. The octopus was not very tender. The tortilla, lamb skewers and baby squid were okay but not very exciting. The short rib was tender but had Asian flavours with a ginger glaze, pickles and spring onions on top.Average for such a well rated restaurant and I wouldn’t recommend.
Beautiful restaurant and good food. Would recommend the Catalan bread with tomatoes and meatballs
One of the best Spanish restaurants in Manchester after Manchester had no Spanish restaurants for a long time time nevermind good one. The only thing is the price if you live between Manchester and Madrid you will notice the difference in prices for same dish whomever you have to consider Rayanair price at the time
Check your bank account if you decide to book. There is a warning that if you dont arrive they will deduct £30.However, we got there early and they still took out the money.Although they admitted mistake, it took 3 days to be refunded.Food was nothing special, so not worth the bother for us. There are much nicer places, without the over zealous policies.
Gorgeous food, the best squid Ive had in the UK. Lovely setting, good service, would definitely go back
Stunning food, lovely romantic restaurant. Service was wonderful. Will definitely go again. 🥰 we are still discussing today what was our favourite dish. And what we will order next visit! 😋
Good was fantastic. We sat at the chefs table. Really enjoyed it. Well worth a visit
Amazing food. Took a picture of the first dishes that arrived but was so delish I forgot when the rest came. Portions bigger than I expected, menu is fairly safe but everything is done so well you dont want to miss a crumb.
Situated two minutes from the geographical centre of Manchester, the restaurant is the entire building so if you have issues with stairs, inform them. We had the 3rd floor, in an area that if it hadnt been raining has a retractable roof. The staff were all friendly, approachable and attentive to you having an enjoyable dining experience. The menus is tapas, small plates but far from small in every way. They recommend three plates per person, which is a good starting point, the portions are well sized (although 3 scotch eggs shared between two can be awkward, I would love the option to even the number, happy to pay an extra fee of course). Dishes come as they are ready and each dish was a delight in presentation, smell and taste. Having ordered fish, meat and veg, all were without a doubt sublime. I will return and I am sure the food will be just as fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed the mini scotch eggs and chocolate cake above all.
Amazing foodAmazing wineAmazing serviceWhat a placeEvery dish was perfectIn fact it was better than I’ve had in top end places in SpainCan’t wait to come back!
Excellent Tapas bar and restaurant. The ambiance is relaxing and the service is great. The food is top notch and the wine list is quite extensive. Highly recommended.
We had dinner here and enjoyed the veggie options (of which about 8). Sangria was lovely. The decor /seating was very nice. Staff professional and wearing masks still.
Great place! Fabulous food, brilliant service and a lovely atmosphere. Couldnt fault it!
Great location and atmosphere, the olives were amazing, and the squid was good, the other dishes we ordered weren’t that impressive. But only three stars because they add a 10% service charge to your bill before they bring it to you, so you either accept it, or you have to look like a d**k if you ask them to remove it. I don’t like being press ganged into tipping, I’m an American, if your service is good enough you’ll get your tip!
This is an absolute must visit. Remarkable tapas, we would go as far to say our evening and food here was better than any evening we had in Barcelona last September. Every dish was mouth-watering, especially the beef short rib, which melted away in the mouth. Blueberry cheesecake was incredible, one of the best deserts I have ever had. FoH staff were great and attentive. The chefs here are extremely talented so everyone should visit. We might move cities to Manchester just to spend more of our date nights here. Thank you very much.
