19th-century fortress with an art & history museum, a gift shop & sweeping island vistas.
El Fortín de Conde Mirasol Museum in Fajardo
Description
Historic place with a beautiful view of VQS
The museum is must in Vieques.Learn about the culture and history of the Island. Bonus points amazing views.
MoreOutside was nice, and great views. As with so much on Vieques, the fort was not open to go inside during posted hours
MoreSmall museum, which apparently is still recovering from hurricane-related setbacks. However, the fort is cool and a nice place to take some photos overlooking the town and the ocean.
MoreGorgeous view from the top. It took less than a half hour to go through all the exhibits. There was a lot of information and a variety of displays to learn from inside the fortress. Some of it was closed off due to damage from Hurricane Maria but I hope they are able to make those repairs soon.
MoreBeautiful spot to visit. You can actually see most of the island from this Museum. Lots of history. Not very big, just big enough to see in less than an hour. Pics there were beautiful.
MoreIt was decent. Good for only couple of clicks. The road is narrow and steep
The museum is closed due to the owners death. You can walk outside though , great views of the town.
MoreBeautiful views. Museum is in its development phase, so its a quick stop but very worth it.
MoreBeautiful architecture. Museum was very interesting.
Due to covid could not go inside, very neat outside and great veiw
Beautiful views and excellent history lesson
Great small museum to learn about the history of Vieques. Vaccine cards required for entry. Educational material for all ages, children to elderly. Stairs are required to climb to get to majority of the exhibits. Great views of the island from the balconies!
MoreDidnt get to go inside because they were closed sadly but the outside and views were awesome nonetheless. We got there around 11am on Wednesday but nobody was on site. Wish we couldve gone in.
MoreWe are so glad that this is open to the public to experience. Theres no entrance fee and you can explore the grounds as well as the interior. The grounds have beautiful views to the ocean. The interior is being worked on in some places but you still get a great idea of how things worked with the 2 cisterns. Definitely a piece of history here on the island thats worth saving and sharing.
MoreBeautiful Fort museum with historical artifacts of the Navy & the Spaniards influence here in Vieques. #TheStruggleIsReal
MoreI’m so sad about this museumsince 2019 no one working there, ended up museums run down & empty. Wish Puerto rico Gov do something to do with. I’m glad able to entertaining the museum.
MoreThe museum is open as of June 8, 2021. Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in historic forts/buildings or the history of the island.
MoreThe museum was closed. But the view and the surrounding of the building was worth it .
MoreClosed. But outside awesome.
Great views. However, its closed right now due to Covid. We couldnt go in.
We went today to check this place out as the hours posted say theyre open. CLOSED due to Covid and the gentleman we taked with has no clue when tbe the museum would be open again.
MoreWhile $5 is a little much for how small this is I realize it must go towards the staff and upkeep of the building. Good views and beautiful local art, and a nice exhibit on the history if Vieques. Dont need too much time to walk around, good rainy day activity or quick stop of youre in town
MoreLovely views are free - shoot your own island panorama, a peek inside is $5/ person (possibly a recommended donation, and a bit less for kids). Taino artifacts, colonial history, messy US Army bombing range heritage and fun colorful modern art are worth the modest entry fee.A good way to spend an hour in a refuge from the scorching sun. Half of the place is empty though, so dont expect to be overenriched by history or culture, especially if Spanish is not your forte.
MoreGreat place to visit while in Vieques. Musuem with history and great views
The visit should not take you more than an hour, but its worth it. Its free and you can wander around as long as you want. You will read most of the story of Vieques and see artifacts of different eras of Vieques. The outside have great views, including cannons. I walked from Isabel II. Its about a 10 to 15 minutes walk that includes some hills.
MoreThis was an enjoyable experience for a quick day tour. Its free to the public as well. We were staying at an Airbnb just down the road from here and walked over. The small Fort offers a small type museum with a few artifacts, pictures but the panoramic views are beautiful. Theyre great for selfies scenic photos. I would recommend to go early because it will get very hot and uncomfortable
MoreMeet with a local “STAR”, the radio show host Roberto Robin and the director of beautiful museum
MoreA must see on Vieques. Its very basic but gives you a nutshell of the history of the island and has some interesting artifacts. They operate off of donations so take a few bucks and go learn a little about the island you are enjoying so much.
MoreMuseum was closed, but spectacular views and a really cool stop for the family. Got some good pictures and a wonderful view of the northern part of the island.
MoreIt is not the easiest place to board the ferry. Traffic is crazy with everyone jocking doe the perfect spot to pick up or drop off passengers.
MoreA must go for those interested in the history of the island.
Pleasant little stop that gives you some history you might not have known otherwise about the island. Just wish there was a bit more to it. Also seemed like there was a good amount more to the fort interior that you dont see. Still, a good way to kill an hour.
MoreGreat place in Vieques to visit. Is a museum and have very interesting information about vieques and the view is beautiful
MoreInstituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña site. Well kept Spanish fortification. Excellent management.
MoreThis is an old Spanish fortress. Canons are still present. When we were there the museum was closed, but just walking around the grounds is lovely.
MoreWorth the visit if you are in Isabella Segundo and you have a spare 20 minutes. The old fort walls are impressive. The main building is heavily restored and stucco covers most of the architectural features. The museum exhibits are small and sparse, but its a nice collection of precolumbian artifacts. Great views from here.
MoreThe fort is definitely worth going to see . I enjoyed the view and the iguanas were the best I seen on the island. The art inside on the walls was extraordinary. You could spend a short time learning the history of vieques or a lifetime. The art inside the fort ranges from present time to the beginning of civilization on the island and some of it is for sale.
MoreGreat tourist spot to visit to learn the history of Vieques. There is usually an art showing happening of a local artist in the building as well. Great photo opportunity area.
MoreGorgeous fort from the colonial era. The collection is very nice including native artifacts, modern paintings and old paintings. Views from this site are spectacular. The staff is willing to answer your questions, however the museum is self guided
MoreGreat experience. Learned a lot of Vieques history.
The Sunset was sureal! The best I have EVER SEEN, and I lived in Hawaii for 4 years. A MUST SEE in Vieques. There is a small food cart with amazing Bacaolitos and other fried fare. We were there during the Vieques cultural festival which was an amazing time. Overall great place to stop by and watch the sunset.
MoreNice place for some history of Vieques Island. Sites are beautiful from the fort. People personal atended your visit and glady answers any question. Great scenery from the fort walls. They even have a small gift shop. They recently are working on new painting at one of its halls. Come and visit so you can enjoy some history as well!
MoreThis is must see place on Vieques. There are beautiful views of the island, and its a place full of history. The guide is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the fort, the island, and Puerto Rico. Theres a museum on the second level with a lot of information and artifacts. A gift shop is on the first floor. Its a tight entrance at the gate going up the hill to the fort, youll want to go up the road, turn around, and come at the entrance straight on. Dont try to turn into it.
MoreThere was no guided tour although there were several employees. The place is very well preserved. Spectacular views.
MoreWonderful place to learn and see what realy happened in Vieques.
Great vistas of the entire island. Friendly staff and a nice hIke up from town. Great place to visit.
MoreThe small fort is a nice side trip while on the island of Vieques in the main town of Isabel II. Built in 1848 by the Spaniards to monitor the British boats leaving nearby British Virgin Islands. The fort sits on top of a hill with panoramic views of the ocean and nearby island of Culebra and Puerto Rico. On a clear day you can see St. Croix and BVI.
MoreA beautiful building with great history; a must see if youre on Vieques. Fantastic art exhibit, architecture of the building, and amazing photo opportunities of the island. Small gift shop with great selection of books and other items.
MoreGreat pic opportunities from the fort. The gift shop is full of items you may actually want to purchase. The museum itself is small and basic, but nice. If youre visiting Vieques, this is a must go.
