El Coqui Restaurants - Puerto Rican restaurant in New Haven, United States
small little eatery with which you can dine in and food is really good with many good options to choose from.
Great service great food def recommend! Nice lil hole in the wall style restaurant ❤️
Had purchased Kingfish with yellow rice and plantain, the kingfish was dry and the plantain were hard.
The food is pretty good
Fast clean n pleasant environment
Some of the best food I have had! Its been days since I ate it and I still want more and keep taking about how great it was!
For over 40yrs, the best Spanish restaurant Ive ever been!
My family have throughly enjoyed this wonderful sit- down and takeout restaurant for years! However, I am writing this review now after our latest take out order because I just came to realize that the last year or so when all restaurants have suffered due to Covid El Coqui persevered! We applaud their dedication to always providing absolutely wonderful Spanish food with extremely generous portions at very fair prices! (The pork is to die for!!!)Their courteous staff are always polite and helpful! The owners are wonderful caring people who are certainly a credit to the neighborhood and to the restaurant business!!I’m just sorry it took me this long to put our opinion in print! I recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly!
Customer service was good. The food was not. The chicken lacked flavor and color. The rice was too mushy and lacked flavor. And the Maduros/plantains tasted old/rotten, and was hard. I don’t recommend go else where in the city. I gave 2 stars because of service but really it was a 1. Not worth it for $13.
Their food is nasty and the pork smells like eggs
Food sucks its dry, no taste not like any Spanish food I ever had. Caliente Deli in the Hill is the spot to go to.
Food is always delicious. Always fast service as well.
I use to love it when the old owners had the business now its run by Chinese people and the cook is a Mexican lady not discriminating but they are by far not Puerto Ricans at all how they would know the true cusine and they are just too expensive for the little bit they serve
The food is excellent and the service is excellent and the establishment is very clean !
This used to be one of my favorite places that I would come to all the time I havent been in about 6 years came back still just as awesome and delicious as ever real Spanish food delicious
Food was excellent, cant complain. Everything was fresh...
Great little Spanish shop been coming to eat here since I was a little boy with my dad now I bring my kids for a snack owners have change but still a great little spot
Good fresh food. Changed a bit since management, but managed well.
Ive been eating here for years love the pork pieces and spicy beef patties.
Listen, it doesnt matter who owns the place the cook (sis the bomb! The owners are running out well and they are tri-lingual. Nothing has changed but the owners. El Coqui is the spot
If I had photos I would share them each time that I come to Connecticut I always go to this restaurant I love their food. I just wish that we had a Spanish restaurant that is good in North Carolina in Greensboro to be exact..
I order an adult plate and only got 4 pieces of meat ,if I can give 0 stars I would .
The food is fresh and good to me and my daughter and shes 5 she eats the rice and beans every time
Great food.Me&my wife come through once in a while.Always great food great service.
The menu and service were ahead of my expectations. I truly loved the vibes of this spot. Great spot to take the family out for dinner.
Its lost its flavor asian should not be cooking spanish food. The food leaves terrible after taste the food is too filled with MSG I will be going to J&J restaurant from now on
Best food ever always fresh an lovely people. 11 am is the best time food list made so so fresh plus service with a smile
I COME HERE FOR THE RICE ONLY Anyone knows me knows Im picky especially about my rice I dont like it gummy, sticky or hard.... the other dishes are ok but the rice❤
Prices are reasonable depending on what you are buying. Staff is very friendly and polite they will bring your food to the table if you are eating in. Typical dishes are served every day. Bathroom needs to be uodated and cleaned more often. Sometimes the food is under seasoned and meat taste as if they never marinated it. Overall its a ehhhhh it kills the hunger.
By far the best Puerto Rican food Ive had besides moms lol!! Service was incredible!!
This is the Spot! If you want some quality hot Spanish food, this is the place for sure! Always have a great experience!
Amazing Puerto Rican food!! I love it. I have been going there since I was a child, and even though the previous owners sold the business, the new owners have proven themselves. Also the service is always friendly. The eating area is a little cosey, it is well maintained.
The food here at this location is awesome. I enjoy coming here. There are many choices of food to choose. And the waitress/order takers are awesome and accurate with how much you want. I would recommend this location to any one who loves good and tasty food.
Great place , great food ,clean ,friendly people work there and its always worth the money , Im from the valley and I only go here for my spanish food ........
If you live in Fair Haven Ct. You know who is the most sought-after in Puerto Rican cuisine. El Coqui is not jus fast food. It is good food, and a good representation of Boricua food!
Great food. Clean. Buffet style hot and ready... wait time isnt too bad either...
I had an acapuria there and the dough/meat was tasteless and it was 95% dough and 5% meat. You should be getting a taste of both in every bite. If the dough had some taste then I would not complain.
I love everything about this restaurant the only thing that I have to say negative is that certain items once they are gone they are gone and you cant get it until the next day
Me & my hubby been coming to this restaurant for so many years now. We love it and the owner & staff are amazing. Careing kind sweet and respectful. Thats why we pretty much live here lol. The food is awsom thanks.
need rooms for people that do smoke its to cold to be smoking outside and u paying for a room need to take that into consideration other than that the rooms are comfortable
Love this spot. Food is great. It is run my Asians who speak Spanish and also may look like a hole in the wall but these spots are the go to spots for delicious authentic Spanish foods. (The chef is from Puerto Rico). It is a small restaurant with less than 10 tables and can get fairly crowed during normal meal times. You can always order your food to go although Im not sure if you can call in your order and then pick it up. A definite must go to spot to try.
Real Purto Rican food!! The pork, rice and beans are amazing. Great prices, big portions.
Ordered a typical Latin dish: Carne guisado y arroz con gandules. The beef was tender however, the rice was a total disappointment. It taste like box rice with no seasoning aside from color. Its apparent that no onion, garlic, olives or cilantro was used to make an "authentic" Latin dish. LASTLY, half way through the meal I realized a LARGE PIECE OF PLASTIC WRAPPER incorporated into the rice- if thats not disgusting I dont know what is. Clearly the rice was made up of only two components... Im having a difficult time rationalizing where the plastic couldve come from!
Been going here for years. Real good food, service is friendly and quick, and theyre affordable
Love if you like Spanish food youll love their food if youre in Fair Haven you got to go the wont regret it and thats word to your mother
I like coming here to get a good plate of food and if you don’t finish you can ask for a container to take the rest home or I can just order what I want so I can take it home .I love the staff they are nice and I have been coming here for years and I havent been disappointed yet.
One of the best! I have been coming here for years now and have not yet been disappointed. Very reasonable price for the amount of food you get!!!! You will be stuffed.
I go there all the time. The best Puerto Rican food in the area. The staff is also very nice. You get treated like family when you go there.
I had pork shoulder, yellow rice, and black beans. The shoulder was very moist and tender, but it wasnt terribly flavorful. The rice and beans left a lot to be desired. The rice tastes like, and has the texture of, something out of a box. On the plus side the staff are nice and it isnt expensive. Still, I wont be going here again.
The idiot that put that this was a regular Chinese restaurant is obviously blind. Yes its ran by VIETNAMESE people but they have Spanish cooks in the back that cook THE BEST Spanish food this side of the state! Please dont knock it and judge a book by its cover until you try there amazing food. I have been eating coqui my whole life and must say there food is simply amazing. The best Spanish restaurant in new haven CT for SURE!!!
