El Cemí Museum - Museum in Fajardo, Puerto Rico
We went on a weekday, got to see the monuments, but somehow we couldn’t get in the museum cause there was nobody attending it, anyways it is truly a beautiful place, love Puerto Rico and everything on it.
Only a buck to go inside. Unique place.
They wouldnt open due to rain
Beautiful place
This one of the indigenous ceremonial park of the Taino people, located in the mountains of Jayuya Boriken (Puerto Ricothis park includes the Taino Cemi Museum, this place has also has bathrooms and recreational area there is handicap parking and wheelchair accessible entrance at this establishment. Masks are still required.
Love the history of this place and artifacts.
Closed at 12pm, never open again for the day. Went all the way to Jayuya and wasn’t able to see it, it hurt.
Loved this experience. Employees are the best and very knowledable
A great educational experience
Very nice place! Great collection of taína culture items! Casa Cáñales is very well preserve! Great place to visit with the whole family!
Love learning about our past. What Nemesio Canales did for Womens. The Canales family have my respects. You should have this place in your to do list.
This museum is closed until further notice, they should announce it and update opening hours on google.
Went there with my family nice place but it looks run down need some repairs
An awesome look into the history and lives of the Taino people and their influences that continue into today
Love the culture enriching experience. Cost super affordable.
Lovely place to stop by with the kids I saw that you can also camp so call first. Eating hours 12-1
Was closed due to water leaking thru the roof. Its been like that for a long time and they dont seem to want to fix it.
Its a nice place beautiful and peaceful I invite anyone visiting this place 👍👍
Another place were there is so much history to learn and take lots of pictures. Two locations were closed so we walk around.
Amazing place to visit and learn about your heritage of the Taino.
Traveling to a place in time that validates the perseverance of the indigenous culture from which the DNA derives of many, & those who continue to uphold such pride and dignity when you make a choice to come to El Cemi Museum no matter how small Its certainly GRAND! You see, feel a place in time no pictures do it justice it commands & pulls you into a place back in time a tool to be used to educate our children and their children for many generations that NO BOOK can teach. Highly recommend the trip❤️🇵🇷
The place is really pretty, I give it 3 stars because I had to travel a whole hour to get here, and google maps indicates that the place was open (which it wasbut the museums were not open due to rain filtration
Beautiful place in Jayuya. The grounds are immaculate and the view of the mountains was gorgeous.
Small. But direct.
Beautiful little museum dedicated to Taino artifacts and history. The journey to arrive is part of the adventure as you carefully make your way through the jungle on winding roads
Place its ok for really good pictures. Well maintained, bathrooms clean, really cool place. Dont expect to have mobile signal here, nor wifi in the area. Please, dont eat at local Mexican restaurant (Garnachas), stay away from here, its better to make make fast and prayer than to eat here. First they serve quesadillas and flautas plantillas burned. Second, corn nachos are fried in a ten year never changed frying oil. Oily, greasy and weird taste. Third, and most important, they dont accept credit or debit cards, so you have to pay with cash or with ATH Movil (electronic direct transfer), with the little issue that theres no Internet nor mobile signal, so, if you are not POTUS and arrived in The Beast Limo, you cant make an electronic transfer ever. And last, but not less important, no matter what route you take, the Town Mayor and Mayors of adyacent towns maybe doesnt exists, because theres no maintenance in any, really, any road, every curve is an life threatening adventure.
Very nice historical place to visit
Everything is clean and safe with COVID19 protocol. Really Nice view
Excellent museum
Historic Taino indian museum at Jayuya, Puerto Rico. The place hosts a restaurant and the historical landmark house of Nemesio R. Canales and sistema Blanca Canales.
This place is beautiful
Little museum with a lot history from the Tainos , interesting items from the natives .
Unfortunately this museum is closed due to the holiday season. Didn’t find out until we got there (See sign posted in the added photos). The grounds are open to explore and take some pictures which was nice. Can’t wait to come back and explore the museum. Gave 4 stars because lack of information online. Will reopen after the Christmas break 12/18 - 1/11/2021 (According to the paper on the entrance for museum)
A beautiful place that take us back in time to our Taínos Ancestors.
It was close when I went but the place was really nice.
Museo El Cemí is a must do place in Jayuya. The artifacts are from the Taíno heritage that we have in Puerto Rico. The museum cost $1 to enter. It is wheelchair accesible and ideal for all ages. The outside structure is beautiful. The area is lush green and very scenic. Totally recommended! Itinerary of open is everiday from 9:00am-4:00pm. The staff is friendly and very nice. They love their town and show lots of proud of their historic details. Very revolutionary place. The inside decoration has a mural a Cacíque which is the ancient Taíno tribe chief.
Its a very small museum withVery large amount of informative content on the islands original Taino Indian lifestyle and the traditional way of livingI highly recommend this little tour.
More impresive in pictures than in real life
Great historical area w beautifully kept grounds.
Cool place to learn about the history of the Taínos, lots of authentic artifacts that were used by them.
I am Puerto Rico Travel Concierge and I absolutely enjoy visiting the mountains. JAYUYA is a must Town and the Cemi Museaum a must visit. So much history!!!!!
It was cute. If youre already in the town of Jayuya then I recommend the stop. Of your coming all the way for it then it might be a bit of a disappointment. I visited several other places then finished my tour of Jayuya here. Its only a dollar to gain access to the museum. The exhibit is simple but informative and with some interesting artifacts that were discovered locally. Itll take you 10mins max to see the whole exhibit. It was worth the stop for me. You can also visit the house of known historical figure Nemesio R. Canales who in 1950 declared the Puerto Rican republic right in the town of Jayuya. His house still stands and is preserved for visitors. The entry is also a dollar. If you want a glimpse into a Puerto Rican 1950s home and lifestyle then I highly recommend doing this one too.
Was closed, dont know if it was because of the time. Was like 4 PM. But the area is always open for pictures, theres a police station on the same area. Quiet and nice place.
Awesome place a lot of history!Tremendo, mucha historia intereante
I wouldve liked for it to be opened on Sunday.
Simple and well maintained. The guides there were pretty informative and nice. A nice place to visit maybe one or twice. Maybe they should add a couple more things.
Worth it to just to stop to enjoy the mountain valley atmosphere. Yodeling is expected here yet we did not hear any. The museum tour did not get into the revolution details but if you want more info look up the towns history on Wikipedia. In the center of town there is a hole in the wall restaurant that is not on maps. You walk down a narrow alley to get to it. Very delish.
After hurricane Maria in 2017 there is work needed at the facilities. Camping is A MUST here if you are an adventure seeker! Lots of things to do around this place so if you want to explore Jayuya you will definitely want to camp here!
Nice to see of you are in the area there is a 1 dollar charge to get on pretty reasonably
Learn about the tainos. Ask for a guided tour.
