El Canario Lagoon Hotel in San Juan

Very dishonest. Stretching the truth and borderline lying. I was informed there would be a $15 deposit upon arrival. When I arrived the hotel wanted to charge me a $15 plus an additional $150 deposit. With no proof or proper explanation. Went to stay at another hotel nearby but never was issued a refund. Even when I showed the booking and proof of the $15 and nothing about $150. Staff could not be bothered to accommodate.

Staff was very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are outdated but thats not an issue. In all weve been in our rooms only at night. The location is right centrally located in the middle of all the tourist action. Overall this trip has been great and the hotel made it even better. The only downfall is the construction next door. That can be very loud when trying to sleep in a little late.

The location is absolutely perfect! Short walk to the lagoon for paddle boarding and to multiple beaches! The price was unbeatable and the staff was friendly and helpful. Being able to use the pool next door was a huge bonus and we even had a little balcony on our room which I didn’t expect. The view from the rooftop was also gorgeous. It’s definitely a slightly older building but as long as you go in understanding it’s a budget hotel with a great location, you’ll have a great stay.

Stayed here about a month ago for a week and the location is perfect, Right across from the beach. House cleaning never cleaned, floor was dirty the entire with sand from the beach obviously. when we complained all they did was barely remake the bed the next day with no changed bed sheets and the floor was still dirty. One night coming back from being out my room door had been left wide open by whoever left new towels which was scary and thank god nothing was stolen and the next day I overheard other people complaining about the same issue. most towels were dirty with some brown stuff but when I brought it to the attention of a worker they said the towels were just "stained" which doesnt make anything better. The shower curtains were also stained or had some mold on them. Id say my experience was okay if youre just looking for a place to sleep its in a good location.

How does this hotel have so many good reviews I do not know and I was going to withhold the review until things just got progressively worse. Upon arrival there was an issue with the toilet that took a couple days to resolve now not only do you have to share one elevator (which was out of service our last daythe whole building but also one washer and dryer. Poor TV signal and the volume does tricks, no air in the lobby and you have to go to another hotel for the pool. After we booked our package deal we had to pay a hefty undisclosed fee when we first checked in. Bon voyage

The rooms were a little dated but the beds were comfy and the location was VERY inexpensive. The staff was friendly and helpful.The elevator seemed to have trouble with the 2nd floor call button so we had to walk down the 2 flights of stairs (think euro style, the RDC, Fl 1, Fl2.Which wasnt that big of a deal but one of our travelers is recovering from a knee surgery and Im sure it was uncomfortable for them.The rooms also have no sound proofing, and the hotel next door was just being built so we were awoken every morning to very loud bangs at 07h30 prompt. Puerto Rico bars close late, and we thoroughly enjoyed them! The morning after.... Not so much.All in all this is a great hotel. You definitely get what you pay for and more.
