El Campeón - Puerto Rican restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Overpriced tourist trap. We live in San Juan and decided to try a new place. The seafood paella was an abomination. The rice was undercooked, way over salted and the portion size minuscule, especially for the price. The stuffed tostones were okay but will never come here again. Don’t waste your time when San Juan so many amazing places for good food.
Amazing service! My husband and I were looking for a place to eat so late and last minute. They welcomed us and took care of us immediately. The food was amazing we loved everything from the appetizers to the main course to the dessert. Definitely recommend anyone to eat here!
The besttttttt dinner we had the wholetime we were in PR! Fabiola the server was super friendly and attentive, the host was sweet and the bartender made us some amazing drinks, he even made my two little ones virgin pina coladas! The food was great and came out in a timely manner! I would definitely recommend my friends and family to come here to have lunch or dinner if ever in San Juan !
I loved the vibe that the restaurant has. The food is really good. Everyone was so friendly. Ask for the pasión fruit mojito if you’re in the mood for a refreshing drink. Ceci was awesome but everyone in the staff is very welcoming.
The food was so good. The mojito tasted amazing. Cecilia treated us so well and was very attentive.
Very disappointed! Extremely slow service from the minute we walked in. Drink orders took forever, we were never checked on as we waited for our meals. We had to walk over and get our own silverware and napkins from the cart! We had to stop the waitress or go find her to get what we needed. Not a friendly place! Cell phones seemed to be the priority over service!
Fellow Vegans/Vegetarians, probably the best meal I’ve had in PR was here at El Campeón! Tarted Root Mash with Vegetables. Do yourself a favor and try it! And thanks to Cecelia for recommending it and being an awesome bar tender!
Awful service! Disorganized. The "waitstaff" took our drink order twice, (each time by a different person). Waited over 30 min for our plates, there were only 3-4 other tables. And it took three tries to get our completed order. Waited extra long for a grilled cheese with fries. Do not recommend!
Fibi was wonderful. She was super kind and gave great service! We will definitely come back. Very good cocktails and appetizer.
Great service from Fabiola! very attentive to our needs and brings the energy of Puerto Rico to life in the restaurant. Highly recommended to everyone, a must visit.
Fabiola was an amazing waitress. This is really the best Puerto Rican food in Old San Juan. Staff also loves to play Rock Paper Scissors if you ask.
After strolling along the beautiful streets of San Juan, we came upon El Campeon, which appeared to be authentic and fun. The meal started off great, our drink order was taken as well as our food order. This hopeful action soon turned to bittersweet sorrow. On a good note, I thoroughly enjoyed the ice tea and Diet Coke. Our appetizers were brought out very quickly, and they were relatively good but dont order calamari (it truly was awful). We then proceeded to wait and wait and wait....everyones meal came out at different times. And after an hour there were two meals that did not come out at all. We had to leave to get back to the boat and when we asked to get the meal that did not come out to be removed from the ticket, they were hesitant. Needless to say, they should have been more accommodating and one of our party members actually was told in a very loud stern voice that we knew our meal would take a while....which was not true. Horrible experience! I sure hope if you decide to go that they serve you better. Oh, and the ticket was astronomical for the amount of food we got.....way too expensive. We had four appetizers, two actual meals, and two teas and five sodas....total bill $156. Wow!!!!
Have you ever walked into a place and was instantly greeted with beautiful smiles & the customer service fit for a royal family. Well that was my experience. Favi, out waitress & bartender was an absolute perfect host. Great service & great food. My favorite restaurant in the area
Fibi was our server, and she was wonderful! And the food and vibe was great. There was a DJ playing music while we ate dinner.
June 26, 2022 I shared a dinner with 10 other family members at El Campeon. I ordered the Chillo Entero (Whole Red Snapper). I received a nice, large fish that was COMPLETELY OVERCOOKED. It was so dry that I asked for 2 containers of the house hot sauce to dip each bite. I was absolutely disappointed. What a waste of a great fish. The cook should be fired on the spot for mutilating this fish and for having the audacity to serve it. It was the most expensive food item on the menu, therefore, one would think that great care would be taken in its preparation. I would never serve such an abomination to any guest of mine. I would be embarrassed to put this in front of anyone and expect them to eat it.Completely disappointed. I informed my waiter, and he seemed indifferent. I did not want to cause a scene, and we were too short on time for a correction for it had already taken about an hour to receive our meals. The others at the table who had ordered different menu items did, however, seem satisfied with their orders. The steak orders were best received, the seafood orders not as well.
Faviola was an amazing bartender, she offered me her speciality drink and it did not disappoint. The staff is very friendly and the food is also very good. Will definitely come back
Fabiola was FABULOSA! She caught our attention from outside because she was so sweet while saying hello to us passerbyers. We went back to our hotel to drop off some goodies then felt inclined to go back to Restaurante Campeón because she was so friendly! We were so glad we did!! Her special drinks and their delicious food made it all worth while. I give them a 10/10 !!
Wonderful Atmosphere. Brings you to the center of beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico. Server and Staff were the sweetest and very attentive. Phenomenal Food. Absolutely Delicious. Must Definitely Try the Cheese Flan and Coconut Flan cake as desert. Short staffed at the moment so the owner herself attended us and served us the entire time very lovely and Kind.
Just wow !!! Loving the food at this location. The empanadillas were my absolute favorite. The flavor was so rich and fulfilling. Followed by the my main course meal. I ate the churasco that met every satisfaction to my taste buds. I definitely would come back to this location being that the food was amazing and the staff was very welcoming. 🙏 thank you!
Ate breakfast here. Servers are a bit disorganized, the restaurant wasnt full but we waited 15 minutes for them to settle a table. The food was alright and the prices arent too bad EXCEPT for this "iced coffee" that was $7.50 for no reason. I would recommend to just get a regular hot, much cheaper coffee.
The food, atmosphere, and service was exceptional! I’d highly recommend if you’re in the area.
We could NOT believe how we were treated. Not once did anyone come to check on us. I had to go behind the bar to get napkins. We were never offered drinks, never given napkins nor silverware. We are our tostadas with our hands. I was beyond irate. The female bartender was rude, never even said hello and I kept having to ask her to come check on us. She was eating while we were literally dying of thirst. Not to mention there were only 3 tables in there. Never again.
The restaurant os extremely clean. The server Cecilia super attentive. The bar tender prepares the best mojitos! The food is great, spelly the churrasco. I definetly recommend this restaurant. It is a most go!!!!
Delicious food , lovely ambience , super friendly staff❤️❤️
The best service. From the entrance the young lady Faviola was super inviting. She assured us the food would be authentic. And she wasn’t wrong. The food was great! The entire night we felt like we were the only ones here. I would def come back! Must come!
One of the best paellas I have ever had. The fried pork is super good. The server and bartender were both nice and friendly.
Great service and delicious fresh food! Fried cheese and corn sticks were amazing appetizers. Top dinner items were the Risotto, bacon wrapped chicken and Shrimp mofungo. Also loved the Sangria and Mojitos to drink. Highly recommended, we will definitely come back again 🥳
Beautiful place! Clean! And the food is amazing and so tasty! Highly recommend! The service was also spectacular!
AMAZING!! Service was great, food was delicious and came out fast with beautiful presentation. 10/10 would recommend anyone looking for a nice brunch spot!!
Very friendly and tentative staff. The food was pretty good. Everything was just OK. The sauce that comes with the calamari rings was a little off tasting so I just ate them plain. The chicken wings were really good though!
Great Service. Old San Juan was extremely full, every restaurant reject us. But Cecilia made the imposible a made us space for a table of 7 people. Excellent flavor, good prices, overall. I will come back🙏😊
Waiter was rude and made snide comments. Dinner took an hour and a half for the food to come out, food was overpriced, and decor was in bad condition with a missing lightbulb at our table.
Very poor take-out experience. We told them when we ordered our take-out that we were in a rush, and they assured us it would take about 10 or 15 minutes. But it took nearly an hour to get our food -- and during that time, they did not apologize, and kept telling us it was "almost ready." There were only two tables of people eating when we arrived, so they were definitely not busy (though more arrived after us). The food was good, but overpriced for what it was compared to other restaurants we tried in that area. We definitely would not recommend them.
Delicious food! We got the paella la campeona marina (rice dishand the carne frita encebollada with tostones (plantains). I was a little worried this was a tourist trap because it’s on the more expensive side, but it is definitely not. Wonderful service as well, would love to come back :)
They were able to accommodate my vegan diet. The food was very delicious and my drink was so refreshing. The staff was also very friendly and engaging.
We came here as all 3 restaurants we wanted to visit had long lines. Nice dine-in restaurant, food tasted good, bit overpriced compared to other local places we ate. Ambiance was quieter compared to other places that blast music. Overall a good backup restaurant if the top local food spots have long waiting lines.
Amazing experience. We were a group of 20 and they sat us immediately. There was only one server/bartender and everyone got their drink, appetizers and food correct. The food was amazing. Appetizers and entrees exceeded expectations. Food was so good no time for pics to be taken. Then dessert! Wow. The cheesecake was fantastic and the chocolate cake was so good. I recommend to everyone visiting San Juan
Just left this jewel of a place in old San Juan and 21 of us were fully satisfied with everything. The service, the food, the attention and the hospitality. No reservation needed and our server, Bobby, was as attentive and patient as anyone could be with a party of 21 loud Hispanics from Miami. If you come this way while in PR, do yourself and your group the favor and stop on by. You will not be disappointed. Shout out to the only cook that was working which prepared and cooked every one of our apps and meals to perfection! The owner was also very friendly and accommodating. Thanks to everyone at El Campeón for making this a memorable experience!
If you are looking for an incredible meal I would highly recommend this place. Mofongo and paella were amazing. The best thing of the entire experience was the service.thanks to the team campion and for the best drinks (ask for Giothanks Bobby and Fabiola .
The first drinks were amazing. The second round was awful. Service was okay. Food was pretty good.
Drink review only. We travelled by cruise boat to check out then area. Most of the group wanted Pina Colada’s.They loved their drinks. I enjoyed a wonderful strawberry mojito. Definitely a place to visit again if/ when we return.
Best food I’ve had hands down. We had the mofongo relleno de camarones and my boyfriend had carne frita encebollada with rice and beans and tostones. Absolutely fabulous. Presentation was gorgeous. Wait staff is so nice and professional. House sangria was so delicious. Never wanted to leave. Ate so much I could barely walk out the door. Whether you live in Puerto Rico or visiting you have to stop by here and try this food. I recommend the mofongo with the juice from the beans on top. Life changed.
Literally THE best shrimp and steak meal I’ve ever had, and the sampler plate was delicious and fresh! The staff is very polite and they go above and beyond to make your visit soooo pleasant. I WILL eat here again 🥰
Poor customer service. I was shocked how we were treated. All I said was my appetizers never came and they gave me an attitude. Dinner came and appetizers still not here. I ordered a dessert never brought that out. I wanted to speak to a manager she was as bad the waiters. I wanted to tell her what happened and I am hoping that what I didnt get wouldnt be on the bill. Everything was so expensive for the amount that was given to us. Even more crazy look at your bill carefully we were a party of 3 and they put a party of 6 to get the gratuity. We had that removed. We tip by % and customer service.
Me and a friend (both New Yorkerscame to this spot after trying several of our first choices which were either completely booked or close on a Monday night. It was our 3rd day in PR, and even though the food here is good, it’s completely overpriced compared to other places. We both ordered mofongos (seafood and skirt steakand we both thought protein to carb ratio was terrible for this price. Puerto Rico offers much better/nutritious food in a better ambiance in various other places for much affordable prices.
All the way from Baltimore to Puerto Rico we visit this restaurant for a special surprise. This young lady took very good care of & not to mention she was so sweet. The food was great , drinks was great everything about this night was beautiful. They helped set up for a birthday surprise the point I’m making if you so happened to visit PR stop by & check them out you won’t be disappointed
The food and service were AMAZING!! Get the parcha mojito (*Passion fruit mojito"). Please visit these guys and keep the open. Definitely will return on my next visit
They staff was amazing. So friendly and attentive. The food was so fresh and delicious. Really good dining experience
I guess you will never make a mistake choosing a local dish. Bifongo is perfect! The place is celiac friendly - they have separated fryer. ❤❤❤
The food was very good. Little expensive but it is in the heart of Old San Juan which is very touristy so thats most likely the reason. Service was pretty good and the place was clean. So I have to say is worth it to go there. The mofongo with steak was pretty yummy. My second one in the island and so far the best. The chicken was good with rice and beans. The pistachio flan was amazing!
