National park at top of San Salvador volcano with hiking trails to the rim of El Boquerón crater.
Fairly easy hike. Beautiful natural floral wildlife throughout the hike and amazing view once you get to the top. There’s a little park at the top where you can sit and maybe have a little picnic on a bench. The trail was clean and felt safe because there were friendly police/guards throughout. $1 for locals and $2 for foreigners
Super clean, organized and well taken care of.Visiting after 4 pm was definitely a new experience the sun light was amazing this time
Boquerón Park basically has as main attraction the San Salvador volcano. The way to get there is using Uber or taxis. Its 20 minutes away from downtown. Pay strong attention if youre using Uber to check if you have phone signal up there before let your Uber leave, if not, try to agree right away a back trip with your Uber driver. If you drive in your own car there are parking lots inside the park. Nationals from El Salvador should pay 1 dollar entrance while alien visitors 2 dollars. The park is quite rustic, do not expect too much information or infrastructure inside. Also it is a quite tricky at the beginning to get the paths that will take you to the different volcano views. There are 4 views, the first one is the better one, though the other spots give you the opportunity of different and amazing views as well. The Boqueron is actually the hole where the volcano erupted, but the real volcano peak is 1 mile away. The hole is 1.5 hole diameter and 1 km depth. You can hire a guide to get down there where actually the hole is placed but it may take you about an hour and half, and the returning trip is not an easy task. Consider to spend about 1 hour to the entire tour, but it for sure may deserve to stay at the park about 2 hours, the views are so relaxing. If you prefer there are a lots of restaurant options right away outside if the park, options include Salvador native food. Take into account the weather is a kind of unstable during October an November and you can expect sudden showers.
Stunning view of the crater.. ànd easy access .. only 10 minutes walking and you are at top of the volcano .. from the place that you park your .. incredible!!!
Really nice place. But the "hike" only takes a few minutes. During rainy season yo lu can not walk around the crater.
Very nice 👌volcano park for family 👪 gathering
One of my favorite places because of the views. However, a bit inaccessible for older people or those with certain physical disabilities. My suggestion is that they add a small train or some type of motorized walkway to give access to all. It is about a 15 minute walk and hike up several steps to get to the crater. Difficulty level 3 out of 5.
One of the best places in El Salvador
Parking is limited, must get there early. When you pay be sure you pay close attention to whom.you give the money. Because when you try to leave "someone" down the road will tell you that you need to pay them.
Beautiful scenic. It is worth a visit to the park to see a Vulcan close!
We went on a quick visit - great views & fresh mountain air.
Awesome views!!!..get ready for a workout going up the steeps... well worth it tho
Beautiful views of the volcano. Very short hikes/ walks. Great for family.Instagram @nukeyhov
A very beautiful place. Recommendable to visit. Its nice to walk and take some air. Relaxing. Dont go to the restricted area its too dangerous. Bring some water because its exhausting to go up. Put a comfortable shoes as well.
The climb up the stairs is well worth it for the amazing view. It was stunningly beautiful.
There is always a great experience walking through the trails exploring nature.
Amazing views, well protected and clean park.
Hike was short and steepParking in the official park was $1, the other parking spot, they try to hustle you to park there but its a dollar more.Foreigners pay $2 entry fee.Drive up there was a little confusing
The hike took about an hour to complete. It is a wonderful ecosystem with many different flowers and fauna. The hike is not too strenuous and its definitely kid friendly. The view from the top of the volcanic crater is stunning. On your way down the hill, there are many fruit vendors on the side of the street selling many wonderful fruits and veggies. Please stop by to buy something before you leave.
They have a very good restaurant and fantastic prices for dishes and drinks
Nice clean park. Has a great view with safe parking and a good opportunity to buy souvenirs but you have to park OUTSIDE of the park if you want to look at all the souvenir vendor stands that are out there.
A nice place to visit and be refresh from the heat. It would be nice for a tour guide to share about the local plants and animals that can be found in the area.
Attention is very good 8
$2 entrance fee. Several look out points. Doesnt take long to get to the summit.. Try to go on a clear day.
Cool experience if you’d like to do some outside exploringIf you’d like to go down into the crater, please ask for a guide and make sure you have snacks and water cause you’ll need energy to return
Great place to hangout, the park trails are short but can be rather inclined. Can be good excersice for older people, not undoable. The trail to the main crater is closed and that one is a much more difficult hike. Minus one star for closed trail to the main crater.
Beautiful place to visit. The drive up is very nice with many dining places to choose from. You get to the top and can hike to the top of the crater.Amazing views after a pretty hike. Nicely maintained and clean trails. A wonderful place to spend the day. Weather/temperatures up there is a nice break from the typical Salvadorean heat. Some may want to bring a light jacket.
Beautiful well organized park. Great views of the volcano. Great well kept up trails. Good parking lots and well placed bathrooms. Well worth the visit for the views of the volcano.
Beautiful place! Must see in San Salvador. Bought some berries at the top of the mountain with delicious syrup on top
This is amazing to see. Tour guide mention this volcano erupted back in 1917. Place is gorgeous and well wprth the visit.
Very neat park i just went to see the center of the volcano and i made it up and down the paths with my converse/chucks
Cool weather, nice, short, easy trek to the crater. Restaurants up there with nice views, good food and drinks, low to moderate pierces, souvenir shops too. Great experience.
Beautiful park, well maintained, clean and secure by the police. The bad part is the parking situation. Vendors are almost taken the only street available to get into the park. So we were forced to pay for a private parking place. Entrance to the park is cheap only $1.00 per person a bargain if you consider the beauty of the place. Nice place to visit no doubt.
Good hike to see the crater from a distance. Its better to go in the morning since it can get foggy in the afternoon.
Great and beautiful place to take a stroll and just a few minutes from the city.
Nice place to visit, very interesting and its a good way to exercise and take some pure air without leaving the city.
It’s a great view and a nice trail that follows, plenty of wild plant life
Took a few hours to enjoy sightseeing and this was a great park to visit. Amazing views, clean and the berries being sold where delicious.....
Be ready to climb several stairs. Tennis shoes are a must!Beautiful views!
I came across some blog while searching for what to do during my layover in San Salvador and I came across the highly recommended Salvadorean Tours. I was very skeptical since my flight lands at 2pm and I need to be back at the airport at 6pm but it turned out to be such a pleasant surprise!!! I wanted to see the volcano and also the city and I did end up seeing both as well as squeezing an authentic pupusa meal in! Booking was a breeze, I literally emailed them 2 days before and they asked for my flight information as well as passport info to help me skip the immigration line. I thought the tour was a bit expensive at almost $100 a person (for 4 hoursbut I was so glad i did the tour!!!!! We found the tour desk after we landed and they helped us with some paperwork. Someone led it through the immigration and our driver came by in 5 minutes to pick us up. The airport seems to be a little far from the city so we drove a good 40 minutes passing through delicious looking pupusa places and then finally we got closer to the city. We drove another 20 minutes with light rain and went up the mountain for the volcano. This was the most accessible volcano that Ive ever been to! The national park had a very nice trail and within 10 minutes you can see the Volcano crater! our guide kept us on track with time as we stood in awe of the beauty this country has to offer. After the volcano we came down and drove back to the city for a brief 5 minutes. I guess there wasnt too much to see in the city? Well the volcano was well worth the trip anyways. On the way back we really wanted to taste the local pupusas so we stopped by the wonderful places right on the high way and ordered a whole bunch of pupusas. Our guide was kind and friendly, we really enjoyed the tour. He was appreciative of the tips as well. All in all we would recommend anyone with a layover in San Salvador to venture out and check out this beautiful country with this layover tour!
Amazing place with great views. Local pop up shops at the entrance for getting souvenirs.
Great sightseeing, light hiking, good picture spots, and view points. The visitor center is bilingual and has great information about the last eruption and the destruction power of the volcano.
Beautiful place, it smells wonderful.
Not far from San Salvador ($6 Uber from Antiguo Cuscatlan), this park has a little well-organized area to walk around and look down at the volcano cone (boqueron). But the real adventure is exploring other the trails. I spent about three hours walking along the trails. The security said that I couldnt go down in the afternoon because it starts to rain in the afternoon, but no one stopped me. I made it about half of the way down (a portion of the trail was washed out and I heard my wife in my head tellling me that I better not die in El Salvador). Its not just a trail system, but people live in little shacks fairly close to the trails. This means that there are multiple paths. There are signs, but it is easy to get confused, and I had to backtrack. There is also a trail that seems to go on the top of the volcano ridge, but I missed it at first. To go on the ridge, you have to go around and under the Lord-of-the-rings-looking wood plank bridge leading to the restaurant, and then back up on the other side. To go down, you follow the main path that descends from this bridge.
Nice place to enjoy with the family, if you go there, bring water and your camera!
This is one of the places you must visit when going to El Salvador 🇸🇻. It’s hike you won’t regret, the views are beautiful; if the day is not cloudy or foggy you get to see the volcano’s crater, everything is so green and clean. You have parking lot space and security guard. It’s not dangerous at all, during weekdays is less crowded. I’ll recommend 100% and its not far from San Salvador maybe 20 minutes driving. On your way down the volcano to your left is a great restaurant Las Brumas I’ll recommend. I’ll say if you go in the afternoon take a sweater because it gets chilly 👌🏻.
A really beautiful place beside of the nature with perfect wiew of San Salvador and Santa Tecla city. I suggest you this place
This is a very nice place to go to hike, eat and enjoy nature!
Be wary of the market people at the base of the hike. They will hound you to check out their food joint. As for the hike, it’s somewhat steep but bring some comfortable shoes and you’ll be fine. There are 4 lookout points and they’re all amazing for photos. Lucky for us, there was a lady selling water bottles.
El Boquerón National Park Is a MUST VISIT PLACE in San Salvador, wow its beauty will caught you eyes once your re getting closer, theres so may beautiful restaurant around with a variety of gastronomy and good prices, one of the best places that you can visit in San Salvador. 👌👍🙂
