El Balcon Del Moreno - Restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Horrible service. Server pretend that my drink wasn’t ready after waiting for 40 minutes and then when I got it, it was melted?? Didn’t tip and server got mad?
Good food, the mofongo is delicious. Forgot our waiters name but she was very kind!
Nice Flow,Nice Service,Delicious Food For Good Prices and Beautiful View.I like to sit in out front porch here.
We truly enjoyed the food. We ordered totones with garlic sauce, arroz con condules, pastels and pernil. The pernil was a bit dry but everything else was amazing. The serve provided by Felix was great. He was super nice and provided up dates. I will be back tomorrow for more totones and pastels.
Best piña colada out of 5 places we’ve been too. We didn’t eat their food but the drinks were great!!!!
I have to give one star just because today the food was terrible. I ordered a salmon and they brought me Cod instead. The insisted was salmon anyway I never seen a white flat salmon in my entire life and I live in the Pacific Northwest where we literally eat salmon everyday, the abichuelas beans where extremely salty and the white rice was half cooked and dried. I complained to the waitress and she only said sorry and brought me the bill. I couldn’t eat anything! I asked her I wanna talk to talk to the manager and she asked me why???? It’s because is busy and the chef is busy and sometimes food don’t come up good. If you come here don’t order any seafood is terrible. The only good thing in the menu is the mofongos and the seafood mofongos the other ones are not good specially the chicken. I wish I can get my money back
Loved chicken mofongo.
This place had the best Piña Coladas I had on my trip. Sweet, creamy, and a great value for happy hour. We came here twice while we were visiting PR. Both times we had very kind staff waiting on us.
Authenticity!! Seidy was very helpful with the menu and her customer service was phenomenal.Ok. The food and drinks were tasty. Ill definitely come back all the way from Miami.
Ayyy que ricoooo (soooo deliciousthis place was amazing! We come off the Carnival Mardi Gras ship and were looking for authentic Puerto Rican food and this was the best! Patales and Arroz con gandules perfecto! Pescado frito excellent fried snapper! Do not be intimidated by the eyes lol its the best fried fish you will ever have! And we took Pasteles to go 🤤😍
The 2/$10 piña colada’s were good! Unfortunately the food was not. I ordered the mofungo with carne frita and the meat was so dry-I couldn’t finish it. My boyfriend ordered the arroz con pollo and it had so many bones…it was inedible. The server was friend and tried to help, but the food couldn’t be saved. Come for the happy hour and drinks!
Delicious Mofongo and good Pina Coladas.
Very good location. Unfortunately a little bit dirty and pigeons everywhere. The plastic table was sticky. Service friendly and prices affordable. I tried portorican dish Mofongos Rellenos/ Smashed Plantin and it was tasty.
Excellent mofongo with shrimp. Skirt steak was was juicy and very flavorful. Our waiter Luis was awesome! We will return!
Outdoor spot for drinks and bites, we had lunch here and it was yummy. Mofongo, pasteles and plantain chips for the win! Gets crowded fairly quick, we walked by multiple times on other days and always saw the tables busy. Certainly a good spot for a taste of the area and to enjoy some old city vibes.
Everything was amazing!!!
We arrived to eat and waited 45 mins for to be served and to be told the kitchen was closed. We left and didn’t stay.
The food was subpar and the service was terrible. Not a good dining experience by any means. The chicken I ordered was very dry... The Pina colada tasted awful aswell. Dine elsewhere unless you enjoy paying tourist prices for food that was cooked by a college student in his dorm room.
Great happy hour and water view. Rum punch taste like Puerto Rico. Very enjoyable experience.
Amazing food amazing drinks for great prices ! Very great service
The worse customer service I received in San Juan. The waiter was rude, he kept messing up our order and bringing people their food that arrived after us. He never offered us water and we waited 30 minutes before he came to take our order. Our chicken wings were fried so hard you could not bite them then he refused to take them back. We asked the Manager for help and told us to wait for our waiter. We literally asked for sauce 5 times before the Manager brought it. Absolutely horrible food and service. I would give them no stars but I have to add one to post a review.
My husband and I were traveling for a 7 day stay in At. Juan, Puerto Rico, from Virginia. We were enjoying ourselves at El Balcon Del Moreno (during their Happy Hourtaking advantage of their nice sidewalk outdoor area drinks and they Amazing attendant, Felix, who served us. As it was getting late, we decided to have dinner there and ordered. The food that we received at first sight, was not appealing at all to what the menu described. Then, when my husband and went to taste the food, it was HORRIBLE! I ordered the smashed plantains and Grouper filet with a side order of yellow rice. My husband ordered: Red beans & rice and red snapper. Let’s just say, he was appalled! It had no flavor, and the rice was hard. When we asked to speak to the manager, a women (didn’t get her namecame over and listen to our concerns, took the plates and went inside. She came back a few minutes later with the bill (including the food that we only took a bite ofand asked us to pay the $104 tab for. Both of us being owners of a large catering company for over 10 years couldn’t believe the never of this manger, or whoever she was still trying to enforce the meals that she had already taken back to the kitchen. We refused to pay the bill. She later sent the adjusted bill (removing them dinnersfrom the menu, by Felix, our wonder wait attendant. We should have read the other reviews prior to ordering dinner. That would have saved us a lot of headache. If you are seeking edible food, you won’t find It here!
They try to charge you 50% of your original bill. They’re very deceitful in their business practices. Don’t go.
Visited El Balcon del Moreno for dinner. Happy hour was ongoing with Cuba Libre drinks (rum, coca cola, lime wedge), at 2 for $10.00. At $5.00 per drink, it missed the concept of Happy Hour discounted drinks when two small drinks in plastic cups arrived to our table. For dinner we ordered the Carne Frita (pork chunks and sauted onionswith a side of tostones (fried plantain slices)at $10.00, and the Roasted Pork special with rice and peas and lettuce at $10.95. Roasted pork meat looked more like pulled pork meat and was dry to a choking hazard point, and salty! Make sure you have a liquid drink nearby when trying this dish. The rice with gandures peas was also dry, reminiscent of yesterdays rice. Now to the Carne Frita... also dry small tough pieces with a few onions. Had to ask for extra onions, before wrestling the pork cubes. Service was slow but ok. When the bill arrived it had already a 15% added with the total stated as "amount owed", so pay attention to the itemization. Disappointing quality for the money. Not going back.
Amazing place to come visit. The Puerto Rican food is authentic and the staff is very nice and they will make you feel more than welcome weather you are traveling or you from the area. My waitress was awesome .
It was good. The service is good and very relaxed. The environment was very festive.
Photo does not match the meal they serve. You get pulled pork.
Great place to have good local food! Cant beat prices in the area. Awesome views and relaxed atmosphere. Will return for more.
The food was really tasty and came out quite quickly! Great prices (especially for the whole fried red snapper). Leonardo, our waiter was really nice and accommodating.
Waiting just for place order over 1 hour (second floor was completely empty, only we sitting upstairs). For $20 instead of mixed seafood dish I got bunch of rice with two shimps. Was completely disappointed.
Everyone enjoyed the food, the place was nice and Patrick Shawn the waiter was awesome!
Unassuming casual place right near the port. Staff was friendly. This is my first evening in Puerto Rico and tried the mofongo which is the national dish. I wasnt sure what to expect, but it was unbelievably delicious. I had walked around the entire trying to find this dish for under $20 and all the men you showed it right around $18 or $19. I decided to try it here at $11. You should also.
So while on vacation we came to viejo San Juan to see a bomba performance. We decided to eat at this location with beautiful out door seating. Our waiter Leonardo was amazing he was attentive and polite and amazing. The food was awesome tasted every seasoning. But he made my experience even better.
Best food we ate in Puerto Rico. We had the chicken mofongo and the lechon asado. Both were amazing. Our server was Felix, and he was so friendly and helpful. Other reviewers have said the service is slow, but thats the way all restaurants are in Puerto Rico! Have an ice cold Medalla, sit back, and relax.
I gave it 2 stars for 2 reasons only—-1. close to port2. next to starbucksService is really slow! waitied 10 mins for the server to take our orders, but really she only took our drink orders then waited 20 mins for our drinks to arrive at our table—took another 10-15 mins to take our actual food orders—been 30 mins and yet no food arrived—-we didn’t order anything complicatedmofongo chicken (2and mofongo pork!!! will not recommend this place to anyone—-
Took too long to get our food. When asked what was taking so long after we had waited over an hour we were told it was authentic Puerto Rican food and it takes time.... then they came out and said it would be 10 more minutes. There were 6 of us... only 2 meals came out in 10 mins then 2 more about 10 to 15 mins after that and then about 20 minutes for the last two...132 dollars later we finally left 2 hours later... worse than waiting for food on the ship...
Food is very good and affordable but if youre in a rush dont go because service is slow. Otherwise is a nice place to eat and relax
My wife and I arrived in San Juan super early and hadnt had breakfast yet. After walking around for a few hours, we ended up getting funneled through a narrow street section where restaurant staff hustles people to eat at their establishment. Well, they got us...After being seated, the waiter made suggestions of what we should order and what we should not, which I found to be pretty cool. I think this happened because we are Puerto Rican and my wife was speaking in spanish, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, he recommended the mofongo, because every place in Puerto Rice claims to have "the best mofongo"... So my wife ordered the mofongo with bacalao and I had it with cerdo frito. My wife thought the bacalao was flavorful and gave the mofongo some life, but my pork was a little hard and the mofongo was dry and lacked flavor. They dont add chicharron, which in my opinion makes a good mofongo great. We didnt wait too long for our food, but this is probably because we were the first table to order something to eat. My only complaints are that eating outside is a hassle and the food is way overpriced. If you dine outside on a nice day be prepared to have flies trying to get in your food every 20 seconds and birds swooping down to eat what ever falls from the tables.I didnt have a horrendous experience, but I would never come back to eat here. I just dont like to eat outdoors, but the Mrs. does, soooo, happy wife happy life. There are plenty of other places to get a decent meal at a fair price, just keep walking.
Its close to the cruise port. Great location to everything.Im just reading the reviews of others. I agree with the service is slow. If your in a rush, dont go. If you want a place that you can sit and relax, enjoy who your with and the atmosphere then this is the place for you.We sat outside in the evening and enjoyed the music coming from the surrounding bars/clubs. The food was very good and the staff friendly and super nice! BUT we were on vacation and didnt care.
We came here because they have a nice outdoor seating area. Unfortunately we did not check the reviews beforehand though. The food was pretty good, but took over an hour to receive, and we got all of our entrees except one. That one took at least another 10 minutes. The food was not spectacular, and given the long wait, I would not come here again or recommend it.
Took way too long. Had to ask twice for water. We were there probably 2 hours or more. They had the music up so loud I could barely here my wife talk.
Irrational waiting time. Took half an hour for the waiter to take our order. One hour after ordering we didnt even have the water and appetizers we ordered. Feel sorry for the waiters, seems they only have 2 for the entire restaurant which have two floors.
Well let start with, food quality is average, mofongo was made with platanos almost maduros, that means it was not right. Second, if you plan to have more than one drink I will strongly recommended ask for two drinks at the same time, it will take for ever. Third, there are only 3 persons working on this place, the waitress, the cooker and the bartender which is the same one that prepare some food, deal with the money and prepared the drinks. I feel sorry for the waitress because that guy have to go up and down the stairs over and over. For a place in the old San Juan I was expecting a little more. By the way I saw the lady preparing our drinks without washing her hands after deal with money. Thats right there it says a lot.
This place was abyssmal. The food was terrible. The salmon was greasy. The skirt steak salad had romaine, unedible tomatoes and the meat was not seasoned. We paid way too much for terrible food. Stay away!
Excelent service the waiters are very nice its a humble place very good puerto rico food the mofongo was great at old san juan
This place was inexplicably awful. It took us over an hour to get our food which arrived ice cold, bland and small portions. The waiter then tried to scam us and mandate a 15% tip without telling us. Then, when we objected - they lied again and told us they would give a discount, which they never did. Stay away! Stay away! Stay Away! There are a hundred places in the area that provide better food and dont try and steal from you.
Decent island food, but definitely not accommodating towards larger groups. Rest room was VERY questionable. Good pina coladas though....and its next to a Starbucks!
Wow we waited an hour for our food. I think wifes fish was cooking that whole time. Beer was cold my wifes margarita was cold, which were the good parts. Food was not edible. Service was sub par. Seriously with all the other selections I would read reviews or pick another spot. Huge regret wish I would have gone to Churchs chicken, Mc e dees, or eaten a cliff bar.
The place doesnt have anything attractive about it but got a variety of foods and drinks. Nice dining area outdoors. Nice personnel.
Poor drinks and bad service waited 30 mins for food and after loosing my appetite and asked for the check for the drinks I was still asked to pay for the food i never got.
