El Ateneo Grand Splendid in Buenos Aires

Perhaps one of the most beautiful libraries in South America, a unique place to visit, enjoy a coffee. Here you will find books for every purpose, including kids.It’s generally crowded.

Fabulous Venue for a book store & great use of this vast space in a truly beautiful building. However I was less impressed with the book selection in my preferred interest which is photography, the collection here in my opinion was very poor.

Pretty cool spot! Plan on try and buy a book, get some post cards and read in the cafe in store.Huge selection of books, it’s common in Argentina to read books and just put them back which is so cool. Little reverse to the USA consumerism policy.They have bathrooms, areas you can sit and a large kids section below.It’s walking distance to some other key tourist spots and delicious food places.So make sure you stop by and stay a while.

It is a whimsical experience to see a theater transformed into a bookstore and cafe. If you want to read a book and stay awhile, there are plenty of fun places to sit.

Library in a former grand theatre, very scenographic and suggestive. Books sections complete but sparsely filled for the European standards. Good section for kids. Vigilance for thievery pervasive, but book can be freely consulted inside.

If you like reading, you must go to El Ateneo, CABA. It takes the beauty from the theater and combines it with the infinity from the imagination. Prices are a little bit higher.

Nice. But not a great selection of books. English section just has the latest drama/romantic novels. But worth the the visit to see the architecture!

A beautiful, incredible place that makes you travel back in time both through architecture and reading. In addition, it is possible to find a great Cefé ristreto.

A must visit to this converted theater to a bookstore. Excellent selections. Some seating available to review potential purchases. Cafe offers a full menu. Enjoyed the lemon cake.

Extremely busy and large crowds….. lots of people here just to take selfies..4 floors of books, with a some CD, and vinyl record options. Mostly, over 95% books in Spanish as expected.Definitely worth a visit as the inside old theatre tenants are well preserved and as if you are stepping back in time.

Very interesting and unique idea to make a library from theater. Even if you dont want to buy a book in Spanish, its still worth to visit this place at least for couple pictures and for own check mark. They also have a coffee in the "stage" area, but I didnt have anything there so I cant say if its worth to go there.

Beautiful book store. Super beautiful fresco on the ceilings and divine light features. They even had a corner dedicated to Harry Potter. It was full of people buying books and sightseeing. It is a must see!!!

Wildly overcrowded and difficult to navigate. Still, the artwork and architecture of the old theater remains greatly impressive. However, the store would benefit from a better layout for visitors to move through, maybe even limits on the number of people allowed inside.

Its absolutely gorgeous. Loved the food, atmosphere, and of course the books.

It’s a beautiful place, I went there and I thought it would be kinda different, but it’s quite expensive to buy books there, and I was looking for some things and I’m that incredible big library I didn’t find it, but it is magnificent place to visit, but you have to go in the morning or in the night, because afternoon there it’s always crowded, I went in the afternoon and I couldn’t walk, it’s just, something nice to see if there is not so much people.

Meh. I was expecting a great experience but its just a big bookstore. Most of the books are in Spanish so the value to tourists is not that great. Plus, things are quite expensive there. The cashiers didnt have a lot of patience for tourists either. I would avoid this location, to be honest.

Most beautiful bookstore I’ve ever visited. It used to be a theater. It has a nice cafe in the back where the stage would be. The selection of books are obviously in Spanish, there’s also a section with stationeries, backpacks, and other little gifts. Visit if you’re in the area.

Very crowded but worth seeing the architecture!

I had the opportunity to take my children shopping to this architectural jewel transformed into a book store in Buenos Aires city. It is a unique experience to browse for books and music in El Ateneo Grand Splendid.

Great place to visit for a tourist visiting Buenos Aires. Entry is free but most books are in Spanish.Dont miss going to the second floor and getting a wide angle view of the Library. Theres also a restaurant inside with live music if you want to experience it

A good place to go for a visit. Overall it is impressive that they could adapt a library within a theatre/ opera structure. However, I wouldnt go there if you were short in time or if youre not much of a library fanIt may be a little far from other points of interest and youd probably spend little time if youre only looking for sightseeing spots in Buenos Aires.

Really nice also the bar. If you pass by I really reccomend stop in this beauty library.

Totally splendid as the name suggests. A really beautiful bookstore and a library. Theres also a café and many spots to sit comfortably and read. It totally deserves its ranking as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.

I have the pleasure of visiting Ateneo Grand Splendid very often. A must visit during your stay. If you get an opportunity to get a licensed tour guide around Buenos Aires you will appreciate much more the cultural significance not only on this building, but around all Argentina

Excellent architecture and a ton of books but other than that its crowded.Worth seeing but dont make a special trip for it. Wont take long to see it all.

This bookstore is an absolute MUST VISIT if you come to Buenos Aires. The architecture is simply stunning and must be seen to be believed. I had a wonderful time here exploring all the floors and staring with wonder at the unique paintings and designs. Unfortunately they don’t have an English language section here but you’ll definitely find some great potential souvenirs to take home. I heard the cafe has nice coffee but we didn’t get a chance to try it. Greet place to spend a little under an hour.

A truly amazing bookstore in Buenos Aires. A converted theater now holds at least four stories of books, vinyl, CDs, and DVDs. Most of the books are in Spanish, though you can also find books in English. Behind the former stage is now a Cafe, as well.

Really interesting old theater turned into a bookstore coffee shop. Honestly, we stumbled upon it while needing a restroom between tourist stops. If you need a break from the sun or just a relaxing place to sit for a few minutes, this place is worth poking around. But I wouldnt change my daily itinerary just to fit it in.

This place is so amazing. I could hang out here all day. My friends had told me about it, but experiencing it is a different story. A 100+ year old opera house converted into a bookstore. Amazing.

One of those must visit places in Buenos Aires and it is not to be missed! Very easy to reach if you take the Subte, its Callao station and you walk a few blocks from there. A gigantic book store in the theater setting. Fantastic coffee shop to take a break and read that book that you’ve bought. English literature stand is very limited, just a few detective stories. And unfortunately, you can’t find the books of South American authors in English (you can find those in smaller book shops in the city, just not here). But you will be amazing how much literature is produced in Spanish. This is the capital of reading in South America. And you can find translations of most of the classics from different countries. So, you can spend hours going through the book shelves and reading the passage of your favorite books in Spanish. There is a huge selection of games and kids’ literature, if you are studying Spanish that’s a great place to shop. Also, you can buy some cool diaries in Spanish, and they make amazing gifts. You can easily spend hours here, reading, walking, people watching, having coffee. By all means don’t miss it if you ever in Buenos Aires!

El Ateneo Grand Splendid is one of the best and largest bookstore in the world. Located on Av Santa Fe 1860 in the heart of capital and cultural city of Buenos Aires, it is must visit for tourists. Books in every genre and from every author are lined up in the circular hall spread over 4 storeys including basement. This bookstore has been converted from a theatre and still bears the same look and design. It has a coffee shop, reading place and childrens sections inside the store. A must visit for every tourist to Buenos Aires.

Well..Icon Library in Buenos Aires..can I say one of the Best in the World... Located in one of the Fancy places in Downtown ..try to show up during the week ..weekend to busy.. In my opinion the AC need more power..Too hot..include inside a Cafe store. Its nice Library to check worth it,thanks Ateneo Grand Splendid!

Amazing experience!!!!I love books, the mixture of knowledge and vintage design just make you wanna stay as long as possible.They have a coffee place inside if you are interested in having a coffee while you read, or else if you are into more private spot, you can choose the booths that are located in the corners.Beware! You will stay there longer than planned, if not reading, than admiring the ceiling or the beautiful place you are in.DO NOT MISS THAT, its a unique experience!!

This bookstore is set in what was once a Theater. Its a beautiful place and has a great selection of books. There is also a small cafe in the back, behind what used to be the scenario. The best part is... the staff is helpful and kind! I love coming here ♥
