Chill, festive spot creating classic homestyle Mexican dishes including Duranguense specialities.
This place is great never been here til tonight and I live in Denver so to drive way out here yes it’s worth itNice vibe great service great food can’t beat thatThank you
Tonight we had a last (dayreservation for a birthday dinner, We had a party of 11 and the food, service and staff are fantastic. Weve been going to El Amigos for almost 40 years and will continue to. Thank you for a great dinner party.
We got there around 4PM. There were several tables of folks, happily eating and watching soccer. I have to say that this was really the best Mexican food weve had in years. Miguel was so nice and described the different dishes we asked about. He made special jalapeno margaritas for us!!!We had a really REALLY delicious meal with our niece and her fiance!!! It was quiet enough to have wonderful conversations without the loud music that some times you if on restaurants.Whatever you do, make sure that someone at your table gets carnitas she everyone can taste the deliciousness!!!!Everything was still fresh and yummyThanks, El Amigo for a wonderful meal and an excellent visit!!!☮💚🌎
Came here on a whim because we were starving and it was close by. We’re so very glad we did! Our waiter was awesome! Food was delicious!!!! The prices were good also. Next time we’re over this way, we’ll definitely go back!!!
We love this place! Weve been going to El Amigo for12 years. Great family owned restaurant. The food and the margaritas are wonderful. The staff/family is always there to greet you with the warm smile and conversation, that makes us want to return, again and again!
I have had better the green chili was more like a sauce and the tortilla wasnt very good .
Subject 1 stated “the burrito was absolutely bussing and the Pepsi hit the spot.” Subject 2 stated “the Mexican restaurant did not have queso cheese, but my cheese was melted cheddar cheese, but the Dr. Pepper was absolutely bussing” subject 3 stated “My sister cooks better quesadillas than this. My quesadilla appeared to have been cooked in the microwave just to melt the cheddar cheese. Who puts cheddar cheese on a quesadilla?” Subject 4 stated “my taco salad was decent, the sautéed onions were a nice touch, subject 1’s burrito looked bussin, however; look up a Mexican restaurant from Dalton, Ga and ask them for better Mexican food tips.”
This is by far the best Mexican food you will have in Golden, CO. I absolutely love the atmosphere here and the food is fantastic, got my significant other to love refried beans and they are usually very picky. Try the house hot sauce, its homemade so delicious!
This place is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in Golden great food highly recommend the bronco and then chili con queso is fire awesome margaritas awesome staff highly recommend it!!!
THE BEST TACOS Ive had in a long time. Great margs. I have been searching high and low for tacos like these steak tacos, and I have finally found them. Five shining eternally shimmering golden stars.
Nice family ran restaurant. Have been here for 30 years. Friendly environment, and good food. Check them out.
I am an employee here, and have been off and in for 10 years. I work with family oriented people. It is a family ran restaurant. They are caring, loving, compassionate about what they do.
My gf and I have had a few meals from El Amigos over the last month and will probably keep doing so time to time. However we have begun to get the impression that the day cooks are better than the night cooks.
Authentic Mexican! Great Happy Hour prices! Great service by Anthony. Tacos are on point. Chips n Salsa were unique. The resturant was clean and spaced out for new guildlines. Thank you. We will be back.
LameI ordered the Tacos de Carnitas. The meat was bland. They only give you cabbage, tomato, & onion to put on top. Not even any cilantro. The tortillas were so soggy they fell apart when I tried to put anything in them. The only up side was the salsa. Not worth the $11.Note: this was take out
Decent food. Not super flavorful. Was fairly cheap. Waiter discounted my girls two for one margarita because she could only drink one. Menu says they charge for extra chips and salsa, which was disappointing. Not sure if they really do or that is for people just sitting around eating them all day. But we did not get more. We both ordered the dinner specials. My girl ordered cheese something and I ordered the enchiladas stacked.
Ate there twice during my stay in Golden, the first time was much better than the second. Dont order their sopapias, yucky. Loved their tamales and pork green chili.
Best beans I’ve ever had!! This is our favorite place for mexican food. Quiet, relaxed hole in the wall with the most amazing homemade refried beans I’ve ever had. Love these folks! On our way to eat there right now!
Bottom Line: Worst Food Ive Ever Paid For. I dont usually review restaurants but this is by far the worst food I have paid for in recent memory. It took a ridiculous amount of time, my tacos were burnt to a crisp with only tiny pieces of some odd pieces of burnt meat inside. Essentially I received a pile of burnt tortillas on top of random onions. Food that wasnt burnt had no flavor at all. Would absolutely never order from here again.
We used to get amazing food and service here. We come a lot and when t older men are around its been the most perfect experience. Last night was a big exception. Poor service, poor quality food, charging almost $2 for an extra tortilla? Partial orders and no flavor. I hope it was an off night or it’s time to find a new favorite spot. When we spoke with the son that was a managing about the issues he just said “I know.” Well then fixit?
This is a well run family establishment. They were so nice. The food was great and pricing was on point. If I was from here this would be a regular restaurant we visit. Maybe next time we come through!
We came here once since we had a gift card. The enchiladas were good; and so was the rice. However, the beans were dry. The chips and salsa were good, but not great.
Staff was very friendly, ordered queso for the appetizer, looked like they added water and reheated it and the chips that came with it felt like they should have sugar on them instead of salt. Ordered the surf and turf combination platter and for me flavor was just not there. Tasted bland, tried some tacos and they were good salsa needs more flavor aswell
I was in the area and always on the lookout for great Mexican food. This place certainly hit the mark. It was Taco Tuesday and they offer $2 off any taco plate. I went with the Tacos al Pastor and it was delicious! You get 5 Street style tacos plated up on slightly grilled corn tortillas and it comes with a delicious cabbage salad with red and green sauce on the side. The price and proportions were both excellent. Chips and house made salsa were brought out right away and our server was great at keeping our drinks full. I would definitely recommend to anyone and will be returning the next time I am in the area!
Our favorite resturant for the past 20 years. Great service, mild to really spicy green chili, great crispy chili relleno, tamales, and shredded beef enchiladas (always smoother in green chili). Very reasonable prices. Family business in Golden for over 25 years.
I have been coming here for over 25 years. The recipes never change. The quality and customer service is A+. HANDS DOWN the best overall Mexican restaurant in the Denver metro area!!!
The staff is super attentive and very friendly. The portions in my opinion are just right. The green chili does have chunks of some of the tenderest pork ever. The chili is very flavorful and not too spicy to enjoy. My tacos were crisp and the meat was very tender and the lettuce was fresh and crisp. This place is definitely a well kept secret. It wasnt very busy when we went. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. We will definitely be back.
For my wife’s birthday we decided to go here. Had a friend set up reservations party if 7. Sat and waited for 30 mins before having a server come and ask for our drinks. Drinks came but no straws. 45 mins later our food came. My friend and my order didn’t have what we ordered. He didn’t even offer to make it right. We asked for our extra tortillas he said he’s be right back. In fact he did not come back he served 6 other people including taking orders. I got fed up and asked another server. He brought them. But my food was cold. When he came to ask if things were okay he make a comment with sarcasm “ oh you got your tortillas “ and I told him yes I got sick of waiting. He didn’t care. Reservations at 6:30pm and we don’t leave until 8:48pm sad won’t go back!
Everything Ive had there has been great, especially the Tacos Al pastor. Great staff too.
Great food and awesome experience! Low prices to!
My family has been coming to this restaurant for 29 years. The food is amazing and fresh and they have a wide variety of food on their menu. The drinks are awesome as well. They do get busy and usually have large parties if people but they are fast and friendly. Do not drive past this, go in and eat.
Im a New Yorker, so take it for what its worth, but I ate a lot of Mexican food in Colorado, and this place was the best. Its not fancy, but the sopapilla was fantastic, I wanted to eat more, but I would have puked. Fantastic is all I can say.
The steak fajita burrito was just great. We ordered extra pork green chili, and were very happy with the great food and service. The Happy hour margueritas were really good too.
The tacos de pescado were flavorless. No seasoning at all. Worse than I could have made at home. I dont know how these qualify as street tacos. No cilantro, lime, or pico de gallo. The green salsa literally had no taste but the red salsa was sweet. Tons of grilled onions and tiny flakes of completely bland fish. The onions didnt have any sort of seasoning either. I have to say these are the worst fish tacos I have had around the metro area and I away get them at Mexican restaurants. Huge disappointment.Service was painfully slow but they were packed full.Waiter was friendly and accommodating.Update- service was incredibly slow again! But pastor tacos are very good!
Gluten free! Gluten free! My family and I have been eating here for several years now and we happen to be very sensitive CELIACS. Can honestly state we have never been ill. Check out their menu, all sauces, beans are gluten free. We get their special on Saturday nights, fajitas for two. Two orders fills up our family of four, plus take home leftovers at times.Enjoy this locally owned restaurant here in Golden!
Small local place with a casual atmosphere. We had a groupon for it so thats why we ended up here. We enjoyed our time there. Food was decent, service was nice. It was a little slower, but I think it was because there was a party happening and they were a little understaffed, but it was a Wednesday night.
Excellent food! Reasonable prices and very good salsa. First time there but will be back. Tried the Combination Platter with three items: shredded beef enchilada, crispy chilly relleno and a pork tamale - all good. Saw a few reviews about services - it wasnt that busy during visit (5 other tables occupiedso cant comment on other times - do know service was excellent this time. The salsa was the standout and what prompted this review - best in the area!
This place looks a little shady on the outside, but it was recommend by the locals so we took a shot. They werent very busy and the waiter and waitress were very attentive. The chips and salsa were free and the salsa is spicier than most places. We both ordered the green chili burrito and it was excellent. The green chili had plenty of pork and more heat than most of our normal places. My wife doesnt really go for spicy, she likes a more mild flavor, but she enjoyed it as well. The portions are huge. We probably could have split one burrito and been content. Other reviewers started the margaritas were outstanding, but I just didnt think so. While strong, they were overly salty, even with no salt on the glass. Maybe the bartender was having an off night. My recommendation, go for the food, skip the margaritas. Also, dont be fooled by the outside appearance. Go in and enjoy. Youll thank me later.
Food is great. Especially the chicken al carbon tacos. The staff is always friendly. The service is awesome. Ive never had a bad experience and Ive been eating at this restaurant for over 3 years now.
The service was awful. Our waitress may have been having a bad day or not feeling well or something but she was the least friendly person Ive ever been waited on by. Had veggie fajitas which were decent but were about 3/4 onion. Salsa was pretty good. Got a side of "guacamole", which was literally one avocado somewhat mashed in a bowl with no other ingredients. The menu is pretty tiny. I will never go to this place again, nor would I recommend it. Im thankful we had a Groupon so we didnt have to pay full price.
Great food, very affordable. The Golden Margaritas are awesome. Service is quick and friendly. What more can you ask for? The stuffed sopapillas and the bronco chimichanga are amazing!
Ive been eating here for nearly 15 years and love it! The owners are great, so is the food and the service. Its not fancy an overly fancy place but nice ambiance, and good food/drinks are hard to beat!
Moved to golden about two years ago, and had given up on going out to dinner. SOrry, but goldens resturants suck! Found this place, and my faith was restored. FInally someone knows how to make a good meal! CHeap too. Will go back regularly. Theres even a pretty good italian place next door, but thats another review. Dont listen to these people who are bitching about the service, my service was great, and sometimes greatness takes time.
VERY slow service, we left after 45 minutes of waiting for our food on a Saturday night. It was busy, yes, but we watched other tables get their food before us. After my husband asked the manager where our food was, the manager explained that it was still a few tickets out. WHAT!!!! Didnt offer an explanation why. We came in hungry, and not happy with the level of service with the server, or service here. Will not be back.
I love the food here. Great, basic, street food style tacos. Staff is kind and attentive. They keep the chips and salsa full, which is a good thing because the chips and salsa are excellent. They also have $5 lunch specials! Who has $5 lunch specials anymore? The lunch special portions are a bit small, but I still leave satisfied. Regular menu item portions are large.
I have been going to this family owned Mexican restaurant for probably 4/5 years now! Their food is all really good no matter what you try! The staff are mostly family and treat the customers as family! The prices are very reasonable also! Im not sure what other ppl are whining about but take it from me you really cant go wrong with El Amigo!
I thought about it the other day, Ive been coming to El Amigo for 30 years. Im sitting here again after another fantastic meal thinking, "these guys need a great review". So here it is...over 30 years of consistently great food, great margaritas, and great service. If you havent been here you HAVE to try it, if I lived in Golden, Id be here every week! Great food, great prices!
I have enjoyed all the food I have gotten from El Amigo so far. The rice and bean sides that come on the plates are a little skimpy compared to the heaping mounds you tend to get at other Mex restaurants; which is sad cause their beans are really good. And they could make sure the burritos and Chimis got heated all the way through better though. Just PLEASE not microwaved! lol
Things that went well:The margaritas were good.We didnt get food poisoning.Things that didnt go well:Nobody greeted us as we walked in.The menus were thrown on our table (after 5 minutes of waiting). The waiter was not very personable.Three tables (who were seated after uswere served before us.Our waiter argued with us when we inquired about the status of our food and when we brought up the other tables being served. Our burritos were cold (probably because they were sitting there for 15+ minutes).A waiter picked up a lime off the floor and used it for food preparation (we were sitting directly next to the kitchen). There are paint buckets stacked on the cabinets above the kitchen/food prep area.We will not be frequenting El Amigo, and we encourage others not to do so as well.
Waiter was rude to us but treated locals with kindness... Fajitas were sub par. They dont know how to make blended margaritas, their happy hour special is very limited and their salsa was way too spicey. Ive never had a beer with salt on the rim... never again. dont go here unless you are a local and want poor quality Mexican food.
