Eike by Bertus Basson - Restaurant in Noorder-Paarl, South Africa
Dinner at Eike was amazing. Every course was delishes. Beautifully plated and tasteful dishes.
Thank you Bertus and staff, we enjoyed the experience and the food exceed my expectations.
A culinary feast. The best restaurant in Stellenbosch.
Very relaxing lunch with tasty food beautifully plated, super friendly staff, in one of the most picturesque cities in South africa, and interesting wine selection . What else can you hope from a restaurant?
Amazing dining experience. An exquisite food selection - the banquet is a must. Incredible wait staff with detailed and passionate knowledge of of the food, its origins and the preparation method. Dont get me started on the wine selection. A definate must visit.
What a brilliant experience - felt right at home with friendly individual service and mouthwatering food in a beautiful setting! Thank you for a Most memorable evening!
Excellent food!
Our meal was so much more than just the exceptional food, it was truly an experience. We were looked after from arriving to leaving by genuinely friendly professionals and served one of the best meals Ive had (particularly the cauliflower souffle and yellowtail on the current seasons menu). The cozy environment, the warm decor, the perfectly pitched background music, everything contributing to the overall feeling of comfort and welcoming.Thank you to the whole team, from front of house to the kitchen, you made a memorable evening into a highlight.
Spectacular evening, we had two ladies on the table allergic to fish and the Chefs went above and beyond to cater for their needs, this ontop of perfectly cooked steak and fish. Absolutely great.
A very interesting tasting menu inspired by old Afrikaans home cooking. Too heavy for me personally and portions too generous, but thoroughly enjoyed what I managed to eat and learned a few things along the way. Some lovely dishes and clever touches.
Great fine dining. Food was asking. Staff friendly and engaging.
Food: marvelous. Wine: expensive iso lack of proper cellaring. Pinot noir arrived at room temp, iso 16 C.
Amazing food. We are in the centre of the winelands but winelist has limited wine selection though and not the best wines. Also we had to ask repeatedly for our wine glasses to be refilled
Absolutely amazing wining and dining experience. Every mouthful was an explosion of flavours taking you on a journey.Service is on point, food fantastic, wine selection good, decor is beyong stunning.
Amazing experience. Some of the best dishes I have ever had ... Not even mentioning the pairing of wines. 10/10 for sure. 100% Recommended.
Exactly what I have hoped for after a hard week. Ambiance, good food and service. I would though recommend a check on the batrooms during the evening for fresh towels and tidy up. For the rest , superb!
Fantasmagories!!!Easily the best meal I ever had. From the moment we walked in to the last bite we were impressed. Each dish was unique. And how they manage to generate so much flavour from a sauce is beyond me.My sons, who is studying to become a chef, evening (year in factwas made when he went for a kitchen and behind the scene look. The professionalism and enthusiastic manner in which his questions were answered is commendable - thanks Chef AstridAlthough they didnt have a wine pairing with each dish the MC recommended some wines to compliment the meal as we went along - excellent choices!!!Great experience 👍 👌 👏
I read the last review claiming the most horrible dinner experience they recieved at Eike. My fiance and I almost did not book at Eike because of this hateful review. I realy want to shed some light on Eike and that unreserving review. We were recieved with professionalism and more importantly so much kindness. They gave us the idea we were in for a treat AND WE WERE!!
I’m sorry but this is definitely not what it’s made out to be. I am inlove with food but this food was definitely impressive at all. Presentation was also not the best. Not again. Service is good at least
On Saturday 17 July 2021 at about 14h00, I bought one lamb curry takeaway at Eike Snoepie @ R95. Two of the 3 pieces of lamb were so tough that I could not eat it. The rice and sauce were however tasty.
If you do not eat here before leaving Stellenbosch you have missed out on an amazing experience. Very friendly staff, most delicious food. Definitely coming back when Im in the area.
So good! Authentic, creative and super high quality dishes in a beautiful open space. Easily one of Stellenboschs best dining experiences.
Great warm coffee at the Snoepie. Also bought the Smoked chili and onion marmalade - absolutely devine!
Excellent food. Definitely fine dining. From the starter to the dessert the quality and tastes of everything was outstanding, Service was delightful and very professional. 10/10. Highly recommended
Went to the kiosk outlet of Eike - had samoosas (pleasantly different than what you would expectas well as the cheese and sausage offering which was complemented with fresh figs and homemade onion jam. Very affordable - cheap almost (in pricebut not in quality. The seating is outside on the veranda just off historic Dorp Street. A nice stop when walking the streets of Stellenbosch.
Amazing dining experience although it was without alcohol :the dish was delicious except the one with Bokom shaved, somehow it has a strong after taste on me..but overall we enjoyed very much the dinner. We will definitely make a return visit!
Yep, its as good as you think its going to be.Raw bream starter was a really fantastic dish - expertly combined influences from both a classic tartare and sashimi. I could eat the sirloin main course every day and not get bored.Just the right amount of theatre to make the bread course and amuse bouche memorable without being over the top.Setting is relaxing and would be a lovely place to have a long lunch.
Amazing tasting menu, even without wine. A hidden gem of the town.
My sister and I had a wonderful, delicious, tasty dinner at Eike. Every course was fresh, exciting and delicious. The gemsbok tartare, the poached egg to start, the fish.... even the bread and butter were sublime. I highly recommend this restaurant. Bucket list stuff!
Gorgeous setting in a historical Cape Dutch structure with extremely luxurious and comfortable decor. The food was fabulous, nouvelle South African cuisine with a twist.
Must be on your bucket list...The food and preparation is to the t...Every meal is unique!!!!!!! Beautiful place!!!
I really wish this review was all about how wonderful our dinner was, but I am afraid the meal can only be described as pretentious, over-priced with very mediocre and non-personal, drilled service. Maybe a meal at this restaurant is a sentimental journey for native South Africans (that can afford going to Eike), as “each dish served comes with a story”, but the food really failed to impress us. Scooping the melted fat from a candle on to your bread? Sounds like a fun idea, but it only tastes ashes. Spend your evening and money elsewhere.
Gorgeous restaurant, great service, top class traditionally inspired South African food.
Great experience with amazing service. Unfortunately there is no AC so it was HOT! But nonetheless the experience was really nice and there was a story behind every dish. Great food with great atmosphere and great staff. Highly recommended.
An excellent experience with unexpected takes on South African classic dishes. There was an edible candle - need I say more? 😁
Its a very nice trip to the south african cuisine but some dishes were a bit off in terms of the portions and the flavor combinations. The service was good and we had a great time.
We really liked the idea of a trip through South-Africa cuisine. However, some dishes were out of proportion either taste wise or the portions itself. You could tell that the restaurant is quite new as the waiters also seemed a bit messy at times. Some of the mains were way too salty, which was sad because the flavours were actually really good. The portion of the bread was way tooo big, so was the dessert with the orange. It seemed that every table regardless of how many you were, got the same portion. We weren’t able to finish the 12th course as it was too much (probably also because of all the delicious bread we ate). The food was nice as was the wine. This restaurant definitely has great potential, just needs some finetuning here and there.
The is not an ordinary restaurant. This is a show... absolutely worth the spoil!! It is just amazing to see what the chef has done to ordinary everyday south african dishes! A must for all visiting Stellenbosch!
Eike is such a special experience, it is not just the food quality, but the creative interpretation of South Africa classic heritage dishes, stunning presentation thereof and incredible service, that makes this not just a great restaurant, but an unforgettable experience!
We had a really wonderful evening at Eike at the start of October. We have been travelling around South Africa and have hugely enjoyed the varied food and highly talented chefs and waiting teams on show - and so it takes something to stand out of the crowd. What we loved about Eike was that it is consciously and conspicuously South African - the food was inspired by memories from the chef’s childhood; by local dishes or by local ingredients. Seasonality was a key focus throughout as well (we benefited from an earlier trip to Babylonstoren which informed us that Guava is a tree that produces fruit in winter rather than summer or autumn). The staff are also very pleasant, very professional and clearly buy into the message Eike is delivering. I would highly recommend this to any visitors who are looking to try something adventurous and delicious. I suspect that even if you don’t like it you will find it memorable and unique - so worth a try whoever you are!
What an amazing experience. We were very blessed being the only guest for the evening received VIP treatment by Kyle and staff. Food was amazing as well as the staff.
Words cannot really describe the experience. An amazing, homey, green and gold, dream location. The food was incredibly flavourful and delicious and it took me straight back to my favourite childhood meals. Would go back any day.
Was an amazing experience. Thanks to Bertus and the team, and De Wetshof wines.
Eike goes from strength to strength. I enjoyed them shortly after opening, and my most recent visit exceeded all proor memories. Heartily recommended.
What a fantastic place! I am a major foodie, so tasting menus are nothing new to me - but Bertus Basson and his team really pulled out all the stops for us last night! My friend is allergic to gluten, dairy and nuts. We informed the restaurant before our arrival and they created a mind-blowing tasting menu catered perfectly to her requirements. All the staff were friendly, witty and clued up. The atmosphere is modern, sleek and inviting - this place is a must go to. So book ahead to avoid disappointment! And once again thank you to the fabulous Eike Team.
Best South african food tested. Everything is great from the service, wine recommendation, decoration of the venue. Will come back!
An exquisite fine dining experience! Very creative around the South African heritage and tradition. Excellent service. Unpretentious. It might look expensive but you spend hours there - it is not just a meal, it’s an experience. Highly recommended!
Fantastic culinary experience!!! Each dish passionately created told a story and evoked so many memories. Awesome dedicated staff under Bertus leadership. Will definately be returning.
Spectacular! Amazing food, amazing experience. Well done. Something not to be missed!
