With views of the Eastern Sierra mountains, this informal guesthouse off Highway 395 is 8 miles from Inyo National Forest and 5 miles from Laws Railroad Museum.Rustic, mixed-gender dorms for up to 6 people provide free Wi-Fi and en suite bathrooms. Private rooms are available.Amenities include a communal kitchen, a lounge and a garden, plus a furnished patio.
Best place to stay in Bishop and surrounding area for hikers, bicyclists, climbers ... anyone outdoorish and young at heart. Where to start? The rooms were very clean and quiet. Showers and bathrooms were excellent -- modern and very clean. You can share a room or get one for yourself -- both at very reasonable prices. The guesthouse offers a great indoor-outdoor common area with food storage, kitchenette, sofas, tables, board games. Here you also find washing machine and drier -- $4 or $5 for a wash and, if needed, the guesthouse even offers some clothing while yours is being washed. The guesthouse has 3 bikes you can borrow to visit nearby businesses like the Vons grocery store.Folks running the place are incredibly nice and thoughtful. Probably the best is the community and vibe of how it all comes together. Try it -- you wont be disappointed.
This place was recommended to me by someTrail friends and it was amazing. Charlotte was really helpful and so were the other staff. I was travelling solo and they made me feel at ease and welcome. The place itself has a great vibe!
Bunk rooms were great and we loved the common areas. We stay here every year after our summer backpacking trip. The common kitchen is well stocked for preparing meals, and the dining and patio areas are great for hanging out and meeting other hikers and visitors.
1Cleanliness: 5 stars - absolutely spotless2Bed: 5 stars - mattress firm but not too firm, lots of pillows, and great linens3Room Comfort: 2 stars - A/C was only allowed to be set to 72F BUT it would shut off for long periods of time and get very warm before clicking back on. In 100+F this was really tough.4Noise Level: 1 star - we stayed in the “Abbott” room, a private room with a king bed located on the ground floor. We barely slept a wink because we could hear EVERYTHING going on in the room on top of us and they were moving about most of the night and again early morning. One of the least sound proofed rooms I’ve ever stayed in!
A perfect accommodation for our hiking party of 5. Very clean, with all the appropriate touches (coffee, common kitchen, open spaces). The owner, Susan, was very obliging and friendly, it was clear that the workers there had the same spirit too. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The indelible highlight was when Giacomo held a musical performance for us. He is extremely talented and we wish him all the best!
Nice, clean room. But no TV, no place to put clothes, no fridge in room.. kind of surprising and disappointing. Very cute place with excellent outdoor space, great location and nice community room. Coffee available nice touch.
Everything was just perfect! Friendly staff, great and clean rooms (even the 6 room bunk!). Very nice atmosphere!
I am so glad we found this place. It’s kind of a modern day take on a youth hostel. We stayed in a private room which was very typical of what you would find in a small boutique hotel. They also have bunkhouses for a more hostel feel. Many hikers from the PCT hitchhike into Bishop and stay here which gives it a distinct hiker vibe. I would also add that it’s fairly priced and a lot nicer than what I would expect in a similarly priced “chain hotel”. We were able to get a room for a decent price despite this being Mule Days week in Bishop.
I stayed here for one evening, as a stopover on my way back to LA from Mammoth. It’s an absolute oasis, a small slice of paradise, in the middle of the town. Wonderfully equipped, comfortable rooms and beds, friendly staff, loads of suggestions on activities and restaurants, centrally located. But it’s the beautifully landscaped property - under the distant backdrop of snow capped mountains, and with friendly ducks flapping around, and a chorus of frogs that quietly lull you to sleep - that really does it. Can’t recommend enough. A+++++
Ive stayed here in the bunk room while section hiking the PCT. Its very clean, comfortable and affordable. The guest common area is wonderful, it has a kitchen to make meals. The owners and staff are great. Coffee and tea are free. Nice laundry for five dollars. Highly recommended.
I recommend this place to my clients that come to fish. They love it! I have not stayed here but I have used the common area to have lunch, very nice! Newly remodeled!!
Comfortable, very clean, friendly, and convenient. The place is a great place to meet new people and experience new ways of traveling. The room, we stayed in the smallest, was minima. No television, no chair, and not much extra space. The bed, bedding and pillows were cozy and perfect. The bathroom was clean and had all the amenities I needed. The shared kitchen was a welcome addition to avoid the constant eating out.Staff was helpful and friendly. So were the other guests.Downside, Inam used to having dark at night and the curtains didnt not block the outside light from lighting our room. Also, a second shelf would have been welcome for charging phones, cameras, etc. There are so may better pictures of the rest of the facilities, I am only posting from out room.February 2022 update. Back again, can’t resist. The new building is open, we stayed in Moonlight - big enough, comfortable bed, pillows and all. We were worried about being near El Pollo Loco, but our room was quiet. Thanks again for hosting us.
Stayed here this past week during a week-long trip and overall loved it. Like others have mentioned, great comfy rooms, great amenities, great staff (and cat), and great common area (cant imagine how bustlin that area mustve been prior to covid!). The walls are VERY thin and you can hear people talking through them, but otherwise I have no complaints.
BOOK DIRECT THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE DONT USE THIRD PARTY much better rates .Stayed here as a overnight stop on our way to lake tahoe. 3 kids under 10yrs old, my husband and I. Really clean rooms. We stayed in The treasure room. 1 king bed and 2 bunk beds plus a sofa bed, 6 water bottles/ recommendations for dining and hikes greeted us in room. Nice modern clean looking bedroom. No Tv but includes wifi. Plenty of Towels / shampoo/conditioner/soap in dispenser attached to shower wall. Walls are a bit thin you can hear your neighbor. Awesome common area. Stocked kitchen plenty of tables inside to eat, beautifully built . Washer and dryer located there as well 5$ for use of both. Coffee/ tea/ hot chocolate available 6-10am. Friendly helpful and welcoming staff. Overall a wonderful stay our children had fun with the cat 🐈 and exploring. We will definitely try and stay here again . Its also in a cute town and near places to eat.
Lovely place ! Small cosy rooms, freshly renewed and decorated. Super clean and friendly staff. Independently owned which is a plus. The only flaw is that walls are paper thin so you can literally hear your neighbors talking and bathing.
This place is a gem!!! We stayed in the Loft Apartment and it was the perfect half-way spot to have Christmas with our daughter and son-in-law from San Diego. The apartment had everything we needed and was spotless! The common kitchen area had delicious coffee every morning and a cozy atmosphere, including Lucy, the resident kitty 😺 The owners were amazing, friendly, and helpful. Highly recommend!!! We will definitely be back!
We just stayed at this lovely place for 2 nights and we will definitely be back! It has all the amenities of a hotel but with the added bonus of a homey feel with the community space. The staff are all friendly and helpful. We loved that there was a community room with a fireplace, games, a sweet cat roaming around, hot teas and coffee available and a full kitchen with storage space to make your own meals. The rooms were quite beautiful and really well designed. Everything was clean and cozy. We will definitely be back!
Cute rooms and common area. Staff is friendly and theres free coffee in the mornings. Local cat roams around and is very cute.
This place is absolutely lovely. Took the best parts of hostel living. Plenty of rooms and bunks, great amenities in the common room, friendly friendly staff. They provided towels and shower stuff which was greatly appreciated, and the drawer system in the room was clutch. Just checked out, smooth process the whole way thru since check in. Also this time of year is beautiful there, the epitome of the autumn atmosphere. There was a freaking duck pond! A fire pit and grill if youd like. Got lucky with beautiful weather this weekend which just enhanced the experience. 10 out of 10, will recommend to all my climber friends, boarder friends, and literally anybody whos looking to stay in Bishop. Bivy life forever <3
Small rooms but clean, well-decorated & a great community experience. We utilized the refrigerator, dining room, hot drinks & living room. Others used the kitchen & BBQ. The cat was a bonus. No closets or dessert in our "family" room, but the hooks helped us organize. A hostel feel.
Excellent customer service, booked directly through them over the phone rather than hotels.com and it’s was $40 cheaper and Shanae was so helpful! She explained how their property works and the different options available. We arrived late and left early and they made check in and check out very easy, with a pin-pad to enter the room and a phone number to text when you arrive/leave. We stayed in a room with a king bed and two bunk beds. It was reasonably priced and so clean! Extra special touches like lights in the outdoor area at night, pumpkins by each door for halloweeen, plus clean and comfortable beds and towels made staying here more of a memorable experience than a regular hotel. Will definitely be back!
The owner of this place is the nicest lady existing on the planet earth. Also, hostel beds cost $35 for PCT (Pacific Crest Trailhikers and there is a free pile to give / take away overnight nature backpacking stuff.
I almost do not want to share how awesome this place is. I hate to let the cat out of the bag for my own selfish purposes. But they earned my highest level of satisfaction. The service, cleanliness and versatility of the bunkhouse setup was incredible! The common space was incredibly accommodating! Everything you could want in the comfort of your home seems to be available with the simple obligation to clean up after yourself. Just like home😉 They even keep a garden with fresh tomatoes up for the picking. I feel they deserve the recognition and hope that next time I attempt to book a bunkhouse that there is something available. Because once word gets out this model will be whats expected everywhere. And who better to trust with your outdoor lifestyle vacation than the people who already have the formula down solid! 10 stars if I could. Thanks Eastside Guesthouse!
A wonderful new hostel with a great kitchen and super chill vibe. Community room, laundry, town clothes, coffee every morning, bunk rooms and private rooms, tiny pond, and lots of chairs, hammocks, couches, and picnic tables. Small garden and beaituful landscaping. Ive hiked the AT, VT LT, TRT, JMT, and 50% of the PCT, and this is one of my top 2 favorite hostels (the other is The Notch Hostel in Lincoln, NH, on the AT).
This was a cool and comfortable place to hang out in Bishop while getting ready to hike the Big Pike lakes. There is so much that is walkable from here. The common area is a great place to hangout and relax.Would definitely visit again in the future.
Great little hideaway when youre going into or out of the Sierra. Theres a beautiful little creek running through the property. Dont forget to say hi to Lucy the resident cat. Rooms are very clean and very comfortable. Well taken care of with a super chill vibe. Excellent location to visit the barbecue joint across the street, Schats bakery a couple doors down, or any of the other great places to hang out in Bishop. Definitely thumbs up and would go again! 10/10
Absolutely fantastic place. The bunkroom accomodations are the best Ive ever seen. So comfortable that many of us extend our stay a day or two. Great hiker place, and otherwise. Youll love it.
Newish, upscale hostel with various lodging options including common spaces and private rooms. Central location, however main highway proximity is obviously causing noise issues. Friendly and personal service.Major flaws with private lodging option charged at $150-200 (!a night: ground floor rooms in essence wont allow leaving windows open overnight for lack of security (no bug screens either), forcing use of AC at all times. New construction with bath tub but no stand alone shower? Enjoy showering in the dark after the light switch timer runs out. Mismatched and loose toilet seat. Mystery container bathroom amenities. Bare bones room with no furniture or storage except two chairs (but your belongings on the floor?). Cleaning was lacking with dirty floors and hair throughout. No tv and very slow wifi service, inadequate for a town with poor cell reception. The standards were lacking for the price charged.
If your looking for an affordable place to stay in the Eastern Sierras this is the place. We were totally satisfied with our experience the 3 nights we stayed at the family private room area. There are shared community areas such as the kitchen and picnic areas but everyone was friendly and cordial. My kids absolutely loved their bunk beds and the pond right in front of our door. They spent time catching little frogs and looking for wild trout at night. They have propane grills, propane burners and other items available to make your trip easier. Schats bakery is next door as well as other great restaurants. Overall, my kids thought it was the best place ever to stay. Only minor gripes was some AC issues but thats about all. The staff there deserve accolades and if I could give a 6 star review I would! I will be back again with the family next summer!
Wonderfully clean and accommodating. In good location to walk to both grocery stores and restaurants. Coffee and tea in the morning were lovely! One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in!!
Definitely one of the better options for Bishop. Room seemed new and was clean and comfortable. Well maintained property set back from the road with a pond, lawn, and big common room/kitchen. Room could have been improved with different shades that actually blocked light. Also would have been nice to have Kleenex and a desk chair instead of the fixed chair.
Loved it! My goodness that bed was comfortable. Right in town within walking distance of restaurants but still has the feel of being away from it all. The micro room was perfect for what I needed. Family owned - they and their staff make sure youre well taken care of. I cant wait to come back!
Ive stayed at hostels around the world and this is one of my favorite places Ive ever been to. Feels like home as soon as you walk in, with very nice owners to greet you and a comfy fire going in the lounge. Very clean rooms and very comfortable. Exactly what I needed for my get away! Thank you! ❤️
This place is absolutely adorable! The rooms are very cute, great beds, nice soft pillows, blankets and towels. Very clean! My kids had a blast sleeping in bunk beds, exploring the propertys pond and hammocks. Our family had a wonderful cozy evening in the common area by the fire playing games. The owners were very sweet and helpful. They live on the property and are quick to help with all your needs. This is a must stay if your in Bishop! One of our new favorite spots!
Absolutely adore this place! Beautiful property, well designed, feels like home away from home. Stayed in the 1 bedroom apt for two nights and enjoyed it very much. The owner is so sweet and accommodating. We can’t wait to come back. Thanks for the pour over too!
Reviews of bishop hotels seemed to indicate low quality of most places besides this and it surely lived up to the positive reviews weve seen. A small "hotel" or rather call it 11 room guesthouse with clean pleasant rooms. kids loved the bunk beds, bathroom was pleasantly clean and nice. no refrigerator or kitchenette but there is a common room for those can of needs that can be shared among guests. My kids felt like they were at home-it a homey feel. Nice picnic tables by a little pretty pond. the owners sent all arrival info before so we were able to go to our rooms without any check-in. We were in a room called Basin, the curtains on the bunk beds had a slight odor to them and the AC couldve worked a little better but otherwise cannot complain.
Wonderful stay. Check in was easy and they were so accommodating of our early check in request. The entire place was beautiful and the room looked brand new. It never felt like we were in a hotel; more like guests in a home. It was so nice to sit outside the community room enjoying the warm breeze at night and with our breakfast and coffee in the morning. We will definitely be back!
This is one of the best little hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Comfy beds, fluffy sheets, nice towels and linen. It’s great and can sleep 6 people! The scenery is beautiful, with the pond in the back and and the nice shaded area in the front. This place offers a great community kitchen and fridge. I HIGHLY recommend!!!
I was so impressed with the quality of this hostel. The location is great, completely updated, and sparkling clean. The staff is extremely attentive and very responsive before you have even arrived.Upon arrival, directions are clear and guesthouse check-in is seamless. Bunk rooms are spacious with plenty of secured storage for your goods underneath your bunk, simply check out a lock at the front desk. On top of your bed you’ll find an additional comforter, pillow, ear plugs, bottle of water, and a shower towel. Every bunk room has a dedicated bathroom that’s kept spotless with dedicated hooks for your towel. My five bunk mates were all respectful of quiet hours and I had no issue getting a full night’s rest. The common area is fresh, well-lit, and has roll-up doors for when the weather improves. You won’t have problems kickstarting your morning with complimentary pour over coffee at your disposal. Even cooler is that the beans come from a local coffee roaster. Local art is also hung throughout the property with the artist’s information below the painting or picture.I stayed here because everything in Mammoth was sold out but I have a feeling I’ll start staying here regardless of lodging availability in Mammoth.
Charming, clean and a nice base for your adventures. We really enjoyed staying at the Bivy! Great to have so many amenities that truly made it feel like a home away from home.I’d come stay again.
We really liked the setting and the concept, but the walls in our room were paper thin and we could hear everything that the couple next door was saying and that was not fun. Fortunately they turned in early, so we were able to go to bed at a decent time as well. Otherwise, we enjoyed the cabin feel and beautiful landscaping.
My family and I stayed here the night before heading up to the mountains on a camping trip last July, and we loved it! We booked the 2 of the family private rooms (Tom and Four Gables), right next to the pond. My kids had fun catching frogs that night, and they also loved the bunk beds in the rooms. The place was swarming with PCT Hikers, but the owners did a great job of making sure that we had everything that we needed. The communication with the owners (Im sorry, cant remember nameswas fantastic both before and during our stay, the rooms were clean, and its within walking distance to plenty of restaurants and parks. I would definitely recommend this place to any friends and family traveling through the area.
Cozy, clean and refreshing is how I would describe this beautiful hostel. The staff was kind and helpful, and set me up in a dorm with only women. This was great because it was my first time in a situation like this. The common room is a great place to hang out with pour-over coffee set up and beautiful views of the grounds. It’s my new go-to place when traveling the 395.
I felt so welcome here and the atmosphere is great for a hiker who needs to relax. It felt like one could make themselves at home. Since its so new, the place is clean and modern. It was very nice to have privacy curtains on the comfy bunks, as well as complimentary ear plugs and coffee/tea. The towels are so plush too! Really great price for all you get.
Brand new, immaculate and very comfortable. Its very reminiscent of the spartan hostels in Switzerland. My college age daughter and I stayed there to ski at Mammoth, and even though it was filled to capacity with PCT hikers, it never felt crowded. The rooms sleep 6 in 3 sets of bunks. Each guest has a large drawer under the bed to store all their items so the rooms stay clutter free. Also, the beds have privacy curtains which serve to darken the sleeping spaces even during the day.The dishes and utensils in the kitchen area are on open shelving, which makes cooking and clean-up a snap.
Absolutely loved my experience there! One of the best places i have stayed in and we travel quite a bit. The community and this establishment are hard to beat. If you are traveling through the eastern sierras this is a must stay. The owners are wonderful the the accommodations are phenomenal. Every detail has been given special attention to meet your needs and make your stay easy and relaxing.
This is a brand new establishment in Bishop, CA with cozy rooms named after the local mountain peaks and an amazing, open feel/high ceiling, common kitchen & lounge space. Family friendly and aesthetically inviting. The hosts are super nice, knowledgable about the local hikes, shops, restaurants and other activities in the area, and very accommodating (let us trickle-charge our electric car during the entire stay). We met some wonderful guests there and cant wait to go back!
This place is heaven for a tired PCT hiker. Its similar to a lot of European hostels Ive stayed at, but even better. You can choose a bunk bed or a private room. Brand new amenities and a beautiful outdoor patio, grill, and pond make me never want to leave this place. Great price and location and the owners are so kind and attentive. Im a very happy camper!
We spent 3 days at the Eastside Guesthouse (two more than we first planned). The bunkrooms are excellent. The communal space is a lovely place to relax after a day in the mountains and is really well equipped. A&L were so welcoming and provided so much useful advice. Would thoroughly recommend staying here if you’re travelling through the Eastern Sierra, but be prepared to stay longer than you planned!
My best friend and I stayed at the Eastside Guesthouse during Mule Days and had the best time! The room was clean and well stocked with fluffy towels and cozy beds and linens. We watched the parade from their front lawn in Adirondack chairs the owners had set out. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!
