bulevard "Cherni vrah" 4, 1421 g.k. Lozenets, Sofia, Bulgaria, Lovech
Permanent & temporary displays of more than 20,000 mineral samples from all around the world.
We had a great time here. Very informative displays, very well done. We enjoyed the gift shop as well. Ticket price is reasonable and worth the visit!
Although nearly empty on my visit, if you have any interest in gems or minerals, this collection is worth a 45-60 minute visit, and at 6 lev, its a bargain. Many explanations in English, and overall the collection is stunning. The two murals of late Soviet style are by themselves with a peek.
The museum is amazing. Its collection of minerals is even better than in London. I spent 3 hours there. Its a must-have to visit in Sofia.
Many stones and rocks. Also they have the chemistry formular on most of the minerals.
Very interesting museum with a lot of gems and minerals. The kids area is really nice, especially the microscope. Entrance ticket is really chip but you have to get leva with you. Not accepted card (no POSor Euro in cash.
A museum full of wonderul various crystals, minerals and rocks. I would recommend this museum as an one hour stop while visiting the area. There is a souvenir shop were you can buy homemade jewerly made out of gems and minerals.
The museum can be way amazing than what it is now. For example, tell me where the rock were found? why its important to us? what made a certain rock the way it is chemically and physically?. There are so much rocks and mineral but not organized in Intresting way at all. The samples are placed in boxes while some of them are labeled in English and some with the chemical name. Also lots of the samples are dusty! if someone take care of the place, Id love to pay more to visit it again, but sadly seems on one care. Entry ticket about 6 LV
We found this by chance and went in expecting nothing much, turns out this is one of the best crystal and mineral museums I’ve been to, definitely would recommend!!
If you want to know about minerals, this is the place to visit 🙂🙌💯🙏
The collection isnt very big or varied but nonetheless its worth visiting.
An impressive collection of minerals in differrent size and shapes. Make sure you carry some cash with you, 6 leva/person (price in July 2022as you cant pay by card
Amazing collection of huge rocks and crystals that are gorgeous. Lots of informative displays to and some in English. Some areas are too dark to see well. Ticket cheap and seniors or with disabilities get in free. Leaves you with a sense of awe... Surrounded by parks and lots of dogs playing nearby, so take a pleasant walk while youre there.
A really good education museum. If you are interested in Geology you would enjoy your time here. Very cheap ticket with only 6LV. They have pretty wide range of stones, minerals and rocks. Some huge crystal as well.
Good cars for reasonable prices. Have used them multiple times. Absolutely recommended.
5 stars for exhibits, 3 stars for the care with which the building is cared for.
Huge museum with lots of interesting things to discover. The lady at the ticket office was nice but could barely speak English. The display of rocks etc is amazing, we stayed inside for about one hour and half. The only flaw is the lack of air conditioning.. Maybe its to preserve minerals better, I dont know.
Great exhibition, lovely staff, good location. Nice kids corner with microscope, puzzles, etc. where they can play.
Amazing kristals. Never seer such gigantic beautiful kristals
You couldnt tell it from the outside but this museum is massive both in its physical size and the sheer amount of things on display. This is a geological museum with hundreds if not thousands of minerals and crystals on display, from monolithic crystals to fine cut gemstones youll be able to find it here, the exhibition of the crystals is structured with intent and everything is separated in sections where youll be able to get a more focused display of ores/crystal artifacts/cut gems/tools and some history about the origin of everything mentioned above.Be prepared to spend at least 30 minutes if not more in here because there is just that much going on, when youre done with this beautiful museum no more than 20 steps away there is a gallery which will provide you with another facet of Bulgarian culture. This museum is a must visit for foreign and national tourists.
When you love crystals etc. this is a MUST see when you visit Sofia.
I enjoyed it. Its a very cool place to go to see and read about all types of crystals, gems and precious stones. Very affordable too, it didnt cost much at all. I was able to spend as much time as I wanted looking around and there werent many other people there either. Very relaxing and incredibly interesting. I only wish that they sold the Bulgarian collector coins there, like they do in the other museums. Ill definitely go back some day and check again.
This just might be my favourite museum in town. One which I frequently visit just to take a break and marvel at these giant nature’s creatures of all unimaginable colours and forms.Apart from the rocks, the architecture is also quite interesting and like a beautiful setting to the museum’s content. There is a feeling of vastness and austerity at the same time. The museum offers various smaller stones for sale in their shop. Tickets are 6 BGN for adults and I think they have a wheelchair friendly passage.
Its a hidden treasure in the middle of Sofia center, al kinds of stones, a lot of information about the earth.Highly recommended!!
My son was very impressed! Amazing collection!
Old museum with lots of stones and crystals and explanations panels on them. Earth and Man name is slightly misleading. Very cheap and great of you like minerals.
Its amazing collection of crystal. The museum is worth to visit
Many beautiful and interesting stones are located at this museum. The museum also includes steels and alloys, displays what was made my man and by earth.
Itcs too crowded during cat exhibitions; otherwise interesting rocks and minerals to see at any time.
The museum holds regular inside markets for traders that are selling Crystals and precious stones. Youl find a good choice of jewellery and fashion items also at the market. The museum is quite large with some very impressive examples of crystal formations. Unfortunately all of the signage and information is only shown in bulgarian. The facility is quite old and is situated very close the the National palace of culture.Well worth a visit
Super nice atmosphere, child friendly as well. The space was just too small for all the products of the exhibition. At one point electricity went down for few minutes. Other than that a very nice experience. Would definitely go again.
Fantastic and one of a kind collection of stones and gems from all around the globe.A must see in Sofia for everybody. Amazing children center with top quality activities included in the price of the ticket. (10 lev for a family ticket = 2 adults and 2 children)
Great place to visit! Big collection of minerals, some are very impressive. Also included some man-made crystals, like those used for silicon dies for processors, and artificial diamonds.Entry is cheap. Theres also a great gift shop where you can buy minerals (almost anything you can imagine), fossils and even meteorites (all these are pretty expensive)
It was a pleasant surprise to see that they have options for visitors to touch some of the items. My previous visits were mainly observe, observe ... Admission is fair and has group, child, adult, etc option. Not everyone speak foreign languages but be sure they are ready to help as much as possible. Its mainly stones and materials but thats the main idea.
Surprisingly rich (and very impressivecollection. Crystals, ores, metals...Pity they dont offer guided tour. It is so much to see for any mineral enthusiast (and for any curios child or adult). Free toilets on premises. Souvenirs shop. Reasonable prices. No cafe or kiosk.
A piece of amazing history!! Thousand of years reflected in huge impressive stones. The building is more than 30 years old which an expriance of it own. Go if you like this sort of things.
We live closeby so we visit at least twice a year. Its an old building that lacks renovation, but it has some really nice treasures. Its not the modern museum that toy may expect, but in reality its really cool. It has a lot of information for the curious ones. But Im not sure how much English friendly the info is. Nevertheless, everyone will admire ten beauty of mother nature. There is also a nice shop with a variety of colorful stones you can get as souvenirs. It may be useful to say that the museum opens at 10 in the morning. If you are lucky, there might be a precious stone special exposition with collectors and merchants who showcase their collections and offer various gems. Its really amazing!
The museum had a large and eye catching sample collection.
The museum has a very interesting collection, but the entire exposition is a bit outdated. No participation element. The captions are mostly in Bulgarian, but there is some information in English and Russian.
Its very interesting place to visit. The Earth and Man National Museum is a mineralogical museum. It is worth it to visit this museum.
Its a good museum with lots of opportunities, but the event I was on wasnt all that good in terms of setup and sound acoustics. Still, the museum itself has a great location (near a metro stationand has a lot of different rocks to see.
They hold cat show contest every November.
Both me and my 5 year old kid loved it!
We went there on Monday afternoon just to check it out, and we stayed in the museum for over an hour exploring stones, minerals, vast collection of crystals and ores. Museum has two floors, with bigger items on the ground floor and more delicate stones.Museum located in the central Sofia, quite close to NDK and Vitosha Bulevard, so definitely go check it out.
If you like beautify, amazing, shiny things, this is the museum for you! If you are a science geek, this is the place for you! I took my mom today and we didnt want to leave, plus, the tickets were incredibly cheap. Will return for sure!
This museum has a really great collection of gemstones, some incredibly large but all labelled in English and Bulgarian. One aisle devoted to uses of minerals. The museum also has a small shop with plenty of attractions to purchase. Staff very polite and knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly place.
A cool museum with a lot of stones to view. Its close to the park center and the National Culture center. A park is also close there
One of the best museums Ive been at.Huge assortment of natural minerals and crystals and man made products. It could have more details on the specimen though. Scarce information on the labeling.
Great specimens found there. You can learn a lot about geological formations, different crystals and many other things. There is a nice map inside of different minerals found around Bulgaria. Also the biggest amethyst crystals I have ever seen. Truly amazing. There is like a history section of precious stones and metals used in the making of jewellery, modern and primitive tools, different industries and technology. There is also a nice souvenir shop. I fell in love with some items there but it was a bit pricy for me personally. Also they offer free tours from time to time. Anyway great museum.
A unique and beautifully placed museum with incredible pieces of minerals and their use in everydays materials, as well as information for Bulgarias miners. Also an educational chamber for kids. English captions available. You have the impression of being in space among the rocks. The lady in the reception was the nicest Ive ever seen. There is also a small shop with mainly jewelry.
The permanent exhibition of minerals is good, but not something unseen. However the place holds a large numbers of other events through the year and they usually appeal to many people. My personal favorite is the feline exhibition where rare cat breeds are shown, you can buy a kitten and see some cats you have a very little chance to see in real life (except on a picture, of course). However there are more and more than half of the year there is something else than just rocks and other minerals. Just check the calendar and most often than not you will have some interesting to see there.
