EL BALUARTE SAN FRANCISCO JAVIER - Bar & grill in Cartagena, Colombia
Very good piña Colada, Average Negroni amazing ambiance
If youre looking for a great atmosphere then this is your spot. We enjoyed live music while having drinks and dancing. Staff is extremely friendly.
Amazing view, the food was great, the service was awesome. Nice and spacious outdoor seating.
One of the best places for night out! Great live music, good food and service.
noce place to relax and unwind and listen to some live music
The location is probably the best situated in Cartagena. However, the strong sewage smell on the day we visited and the absolutely ridiculous prices prompted us to leave early and before ordering anything.
Nice atmosphere & friendly staff. A must see restaurant in the walled city. Good live band & ambiance. I would recommend this restaurant.
Live band, great music, a lil pricy. Prompt service
Good food. Just barely beat the rain this night!
Music was perfect. Not too loud. A very enjoyable evening
Really wanted to like this spot but it was lacking on all fronts. We arrived right at 4:30 ( when they openwere were met with blank stares and were ignored multiple times when asking if they were open yet.
Amazing place to chill and have a drink while you enjoy the breeze and a great view.Food is great and so are the drinks
Food was great. Service was okay. Had live music which was a nice addition
Saturday night live music 🎶 Amazing service ask for ANDI he is the best waiter, you gonna enjoy you night there and they have a best Hooka in all Cartagena
Beautiful place to sit and have a drink and listen to live music. They have a full kitchen as well. Nice ambiance, view and a cool wind off the ocean. Small tables and lounge chairs as well.
This Ceviche de chicharrón was new on the menu and it was delish. It was perfect as an entrée.
Great food and great live salsa band. Definitely a great place to party.
One of my favorites in Cartagena to watch sun or live music on weekends- very yummy cocktails and good service. I started coming here because Cafe de Mar didn’t have best cocktails or service but I wanted to see sunset - this place really stands out because of staff like Kevin, Fernando, Endir, Edwin - they definitely make the difference with detail and making you feel at home. I wish they had better bathrooms then the small shared ones downstairs. The menu has sandwiches from 26/29k pesos to ceviche, and larger steak and seafood dishes 60-80k so a range for everyone. Definitely worth a visit while in CTG ☀️.
Great place to watch the sunset from on top of the wall surrounding the Old Town. I had a good cocktail while I was there.
Wonderful place to enjoy a cute (juicybeverage and watch the sunset but the food is not so good. As a starter, I ordered the ceviche de pulpo (i think that was its nameand that was really good. For dinner, i ordered what was something like a meat sampler. It was gross. The only good thing on that plate was the potatoes and the chorizo, which was just fried hot dogs. Take your appetite elsewhere. There are plenty of amazing restaurants in the area.
if you are looking for a better option to look at the sunset and have a hand crafted cocktail in Cartageta this is it. This place is 100x better than Cafe del mar, i dont know why cafe del mar is so popular if its always so packed and drinks are not even good.
Best seafood meal we have ever had, and the passion fruit dessert was awesome. The server was so attentive! The live music, the ambiance, absolutely the place to be in Cartagena.
If you like Salsa music, this place is for you. The prices are the same as any other restaurant in the historic center. There is food and drinks to have a good time.
Very good meal. Had about 40 people in are party. We had either salmon or beef. The salmon had a passion fruit sauce fantastic. The smashed potatoes, that came with it were great. Price for either was 62000 pesos. Beer was about 4 times the price on the street. But for where they are located well worth the price. Mostly Americans by the bar. Me and my Grandkids the only ones born in America in are party. Small band by the watchtower. Very good. Family loved dancing to it. Excellent staff, would go again. Great place to watch the sunset.
In the middle of a Caribbean place if you are a guy and wearing a shirt without sleeves ( not sure how is it call in Englishyou are not allow to enter. I spoke with captain Ivan and he accepted this rule was absurd…. Sorry not a place to go if you are not dress properly?
Definitely recommend as a place to grab a drink and watch the sunset!
Great location, good music, waiters and food are poor, in general good vibes, sadly the customer service is a disappointment. Not going back.
Its a little expensive compared to other restaurants with higher quality and a more varied manu; however, the service was outstanding and very friendly and fast. I recommend it to havesome drinks and snaks but not for a meal as well because the wind gets mad from time to time and it bothers a bit. It is amazing to see the sunset and enjoy romantic or friendly moments.
Seafood platter was excellent, as is the house cocktail.Much better option than the other bar on the wall. Added bonus for being pet friendly.
Great drinks, okay views. The Baluarte is delicious, like a piña colada almost. The tequila cocktail is strong but also delicious. Some of the tastiest drinks Ive had in the city actually. It is on the walls, but due to trees and buildings it doesnt actually have a good view at all. You cant see the ocean or the modern city, and the plaza you overlook isnt popular at night.
The bar of el baluarte its amazing. Located above the city wall with incredible views it’s completely stunning. They play really good music, really fun and not club style, with classical simple drinks. Its a great choice to enjoy the old city.
Lovely place to go during the evening to watch the amazing Cartagena sunset and stay for the night. They play live music, they have good service, offer a decent variety of food , coctails and liquor. The view is amazing and its a very cozy and romantic place.Highly recommend it
In appearence they looked fine, although really expensive. But food here was discusting, worst sandwich ever, Im sure one or more of the ingredients were expired because the smell. Even the potato chips whew soggy and obviously taken out of the wrapper several hours ago. Everyone at the table had the same feeling, so nobody ate them. The drink was "coroso" juice, but it was awful too. Although to be fair, it was my first time trying that fruit, so maybe that was the expected flavor. This place is clearly a tourist trap, expensive and with no quality. Sad that such a beautiful location is used so badly.
Another interesting place in the walls of Cartagena
Very nice good costumer service slow music, romantic place to be watching the sunset where that magic begins
A nice bar with live music on weekend evenings with a dedicated dance floor. Excellent Mojitos and sunset views.
The ambiance of sitting outside listening to live music inside the city wall was fascinating for me. We ordered the Picada Mixta which was all meat and the Seafood Picada which had octopus, shrimp, calamari in some sauce and muscles (which by the way were not completely openthe taste was NOT good at all and very expensive. The seafood platter was $130,000 Colombian pesos which is equivalent to $43USD for just one platter. I wouldnt of minded to have paid $314,000 pesos if the food tasted way better, but both platters sucked. I guess just to hang out and have a beer would be good, but do not order the food. I gave it one star because it of the taste of the food and the price!
It was ok.A night place where one can sit upon the wall see the bay as well as the city with on the wall behind you.One gets to enjoy the live music and have a drink or two. Both food and drinks are priced very high for the city and country and one gets a feel that its some what of a tourist trap.Food was not good at all. The seafood platter for 4 was more like two and not fresh. Most of the mussles did not open up and did not want to risk it while abroad to eat them.
Fantastic setting on the ramparts of old Cartagena. Cant take a bad picture or have a bad time. Reasonably priced.
A beautiful setting to enjoy dining outside to music after the sun goes down, or to watch the sunset of course. We ended up here a few times during our stay in Cartagena and it was fun every time. The service can be very slow so order your drinks in advance if you dont like an empty glass ;The live band was always good, we even did some salsa dancing. Food was always good, I had the sliders and would recommend them. My friend had the mussels every time, she loved them!
The best sunset in Cartagena. Drinks are Ok, food not so much
Beautiful place to watch the sunset while enjoying drinks and live music. Its outdoors on the wall with a view right over the water looking west. There are great views of the city architecture. Drinks are reasonably priced for such a busy, touristy area. When it gets really busy it can take a minute to flag down a server for more drinks. But one of the most comfortable atmospheres for such a busy location that Ive experienced.
We really enjoyed this place. We didnt try an entree, only drinks and appetizers, but everything was great. Service was very friendly. It was probably our favorite spot to relax at night. They have very comfortable lounging chairs, an awesome view, live music, ocean breeze....super romantic.
Really nice service, nice live music. I had the cold brew coffee and my gfs daughter had a juice we both loved our drinks. A great place enjoy the sunset.
Fantastic place, day and night an amazing destination to visit and make good pictures.
Lovely place for a drink at sunset
The place has a great potential. However, the service was not good. It took long to serve an easy order even when the place was basically empty. When the food (beef mini burgers and french friesarrived, it wasnt in the terms they were asked and it was cold. Anyways, I loved the atmosphere there and the coconut lemonade was simply delicious!
Good espresso martini and great view for sunset. 30k cop for the cocktail but that was one of the more expensive ones on the list!
Great place in the city center for a drink after dinner! Life Latin music...good for dancing outside! Good service and nice ambiance! Great views! Requires a 10.000 pesos cover (no drinks included)!
A butifull corner of the old walled city with view over the old Santa Clara convent, now hotel.
