Džiaugsmas - Restaurant in Vilnius, Lithuania
Very delicious upscale food with distinct local character in each dish. I have been to a number of Michelin star restaurants in North America and Dziaugsmas (translates as Joycould be a serious applicant with good odds. It is very expensive to get and maintain one, but it could be a kick starter for countrys food tourism. And this country can do some good tricks in their kitchens. The only note on quality of food in Dziaugsmas is that same (although mindblowingly tastywood smoke, supposedly from grill is a bit overwhelming and is found in many meat and fish entrees.
Awesome experience !
Not trivial and very authentic cuisine. Highly recommend
Amazing food - especially tasteful and beautifully arranged! Unexpected combinations: dill ice cream with rhubarb and crumble. Delicious! Very friendly and attentive service. Very nice interior. 100% recommended.
No. 1 place in the city (and probably in Lithuania💯 Cod doughnuts, schnitzel & curd doughnuts - must try dishes while eating here!
Wow, what a place!! If you like minimalist interiors, good wines, and tasty sectional dishes - must visit! Thank you!
Unexpectedly sofisticated place in Vilnius.Did not like black an bare interior but tje service was excellent. Very polite and knowledgeable waiters.Starters - try smoked herring on a potato cake, stuffed wheat tubes. Fish fritters done like charcoal are interesting.Steak tartare with bone marrow was amazing. But the star of the show was Dill Ice cream. Not something I would have ever thought off. But it tasted amazingly, looked amazingly and somehow reflected the soul of this part of the world.
Exceptional food and service
This place is by far the best food we had in Vilnius, and some of the best we had ever! Loved the minimalist decor, the servers were easygoing and attentive without being overbearing. The food was wow, and huge portions, especially for the money you pay. Haven’t eaten that much in ages! Book in advance because they are busy!!
Excellent food shifting as seasons go by. Likewise, the wine assortment and incredibly welcoming staff makes your dining night an experience to remember!
Lovely restaurant. Creative dishes, exquisite quality. Presentation, service.
Nice place, everything is good, the service was perfect, the dumpling and starters were delicious
Voted 2/30 top Lithuanian restaurants and l can see why. We chose three starters ( the three in the picturesand all were light to eat.My next dish was schnitzel with radish flowers on top and a basil paste. My husband had quail which comes complete!!.Great food great, great experience..BOOK IT
Great place. Great service. Very different delightful main dishes and starters. Certainly a "must go".
Amazing meal.Beef tartare starter was delicious. The cod beignets came in an incredible black (squid inkcoating to be dipped in a green sauce.Beef tongue was delicious. Almost slightly teriyaki in taste. The schnitzel was beautiful. I have never seen anything like it. Took a simple dish to a next level. We tried the Jerusalem artichoke ice cream cake for dessert. It really worked and was a nice way to finish our evening.Service was friendly and atmosphere great. Highly recommend.
Perfect.
Really delicious and beautifully presented food. Modern interior. Big portions. Bring all your local and international friends - they will have a trully pleasant experience. Staff is friendly too.
Lack of amabilty, nothing explained while bringing the dishes, the starters are in fact "appetizers". A little bit disappointed for the price we payed. Though, very good quality and taste of food.
I love fine dining and always make sure I try several restaurants when visiting my home in the beloved Lithuania. Unfortunately, Dziaugsmas did not live up to it’s hype for two reasons: unbalanced tasting menu and shocking service.Tasting menu: four very interesting canapes followed by unnecessarily large and surprisingly underwhelming veggie, fish and meat dishes - all too large for the tasting menu. Then followed by a desert and donuts.Service: way too familiar. When I asked to pair red wine with the meat dish, the waiter went into a snarky tale about how Lithuanians prefer wine high in alcohol, low in tannins and rich in taste - all to my husband. Who was not the one asking a question. Which proceeded by way too off hand and again way to familiar ‘tu’, rather than ‘jus’ to my side, local jokes, and a large paper bag plonked between us on the table - ‘here’s your donuts to take home’.When I removed the bag from the table, I was greeted with - ‘oh you dont see each other enough everyday I guess’. What the hell?!Finally, the waiter had the audacity to tell he takes tips in pounds, dollars as well as euros. For god’s sake, for a restaurant that strives to be the best, the service is lacking at best.
Džiaugsmas is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. The atmosphere is great, with a dark interior so the food really takes the spotlight. The service is excellent, with fast, friendly and attentive staff. But the food-- my goodness, mouthwatering good. Just looking at the pictures is making me smile and wish I was back. The restaurant has been rated the best in Vilnius for a couple of years in a row, and it deserves it. Lithuanian food with a modern twist-- every dish is beautiful and delicious. Our favorites were dumplings and charcoal fish (appetizers), and short ribs and celery (mains). I cannot even choose my favorite dessert, since all of them were so good.Overall, a must in Vilnius. It is pricier than the average restaurant in town, but it is, in my opinion, worth every cent and more!!
Was recommended this restaurant by a colleague who is Lithuanian so I visited whilst in Vilnius on a solo trip. Everything was absolutely excellent, the food, the wine, and the service. I was served by Karolis and he was great, he spoke perfect English as I speak very very little Lithuanian, described the dishes in a nice ammount of detail and I asked him for wine pairings with the food, everything that he brought for me matched perfectly. All in all it was a brilliant night and Im so glad I could make it.
Great food and strong combos but really good. It’s not a light meal but it’s great.
Wow! What an incredible experience! The food was exquisite and the athmosphere is super cool. I loved the cod donuts and the starters are worth trying. Also the deserts were not overly sweet!!!
I am not entirely certain how this restaurant was chosen as the best restaurant in Lithuania, because the quality is simply not there.I tried the tasting menu and the whole menu was tediously mediocre (even lacking in taste). There were some interesting aspects to the menu, but the level of cooking is more gastro-pub than a fine dining establishment. Theres also no drink pairing of any sort, and as the tasting menu is just brought out to you (with no list anywhere to be seenits impossible to do your own matching as well.Service is mechanical, no personal touch and no interest in how the dishes tasted.
We came here with a guest from abroad who is well travelled and a fan of fine dining. It was our first fine dining experience so we got a tasting menu. The waiters spoke perfect English which was a huge bonus. Every bite was amazing, definitely a must visit place in Vilnius. The amount of food we got for the tasting menu was insane, didn’t expect to leave feeling so full! Our guest, who has visited some of the worlds best restaurants, was very impressed too!
Tried 9 dish tasting. Almost all dishes was with seafood. Good expirience, but only for one time. The best from everything was desert. Maybe had too big expectation for this place. Romantic place. Recommend.
Amazing. If you pass by here... you can not miss this magic and delicious table. Enjoy !
I had big expectations for this place, as it was labeled as one of the best places in this town. However it failed to meet expectations, rolls (which are so famedleft nothing to be amazed of average at best. Snacks are boring, while bread are indeed nice, beef steak was cooked without error, slightly too much salt for my taste, but this is just me. Surrounding a bit too dark and cold for me. Probably not coming back.
Beef tenderloin was amazing! My wife had duck and she was also satisfied with the meal. They seem to have some nice wine selection. The only i did not like is the table we were seated was in some kind of hallway and the interior is a bit dark.
Its our second time and definitely more to come! The presentation, taste and amount was spot on and so was the wine. All of the dishes had some interesting twists and bunch of flavors. Ice cream with bacon taste was daring and challenging classic expectations. By far the best restaurant in Lithuania we tried and also one of our favorites across many different countries. In addition, it comes at a price, where you dont need to think twice before deciding to visit the place. Main dishes come in a range of 15-20 EUR apart from some more expensive beef cuts. We will definitely recommend the place to our wedding guests coming to Lithuania next year.
The food was extremely interesting and delicious. Really unique presentation of ingridients and surprising flavours in all of the dishes. For me the restaurant shined most through the side dishes and appetizers. And I especially enjoyed the bread, amazing flavour and texture. This restaurant definitely lived up to the title of the best restaurant in the country. The one thing that was not enjoyable was the lack of AC. It was really really hot, I would have stayed there longer but I simply couldnt bare it.
Well worth #1 spot.Modernized traditional lithuanian dishes.Must try appetizers - their signature donuts and bread, cured lard and apple jam combo.
Yes, the food is delicious and interesting made. Waiters are really helpful to explain how it was made.
We had a great experience dining here! I can easily see why this is one of the best restaurants in Lithuania!I know some people don’t enjoy this kind of design but I found it very interesting and the absence of unnecessary decor made me focus on food. The service was perfect - our server was attentive, but not so much that it would bother us, he gave us great advices and guidelines towards what to order according to our likes and dislikes. The food was very interesting and modern, lots of flavours, textures and great ideas behind every dish, but some of the portions I found way too small for the price. Also house bread (sourdoughwas repetitive to the sourdough with lard appetizer that we ordered. It was great, but could have been with different. The chicken wing had great texture and the wing itself was perfect, but I didn’t enjoy the filling that I believe was eel. Lamb rillette was delicious but it was extremely small for the price. Desserts were great! After all we enjoy our dinner and would definitely be back next time!
Very bold dishes for very bold people. You can find here the most unexpected flavors combination. I had degustation night, so I was forced to eat lots of fish, witch I dont like to eat. Still really like coal looking like donut with a fish inside and some mouse on the side. I dont remember the exact flavours, but that was unexpectedly good. I woul really want to come here again but as a regular client. Here are my two favorite dishes: three different colors beetroot with pistachio cream and for dessert some potatoes ice-cream with chips (i didnt like the combination, but the ice-cream was wonderful)
Great food, especially veal. Cant go wrong with any dish. Service was also great and pleasant
This place is in top 3 restaurants in Lithuania for several years in a row now.You get what you could expect - exceptional food with a great service, but surprisingly for not that much. In under 100€/person you can leave with belly full of great food and wine.Take at least 2 hours to enjoy tasting the menu.
Wonderful place! Amazing atmosphere, great service, delicious!!!! Meals I can’t believe! Loved it. Would recommend
I have mixed feelings about the place. Overall we had a good time and service was amazing. However, theres really nice food (snail starterand some dishes which are average looking and tasting (veg starter for example). We also got the first table from the door which is in a really dark area, black walls, ceiling, table etc and theres a strong draft from the door so it was really cold to sit there. I suggest placing a curtain next to the entrance.
Excellent! The food was great and with many interesting tastes (e.g. snails), and the waiters were polite. Probably more expensive than rest of Vilnius, but i would say it was reasonable. We paid 100EUR for three dishes, coffee and a bottle of wine for two persons.
Delicious and very nicely presented food, very kind and knowledgeable service. Definetely will return again, one of the best fine dining experiences in Vilnius.
A great place to have an experience in fine dining in the heart of Vilnius. Although, their potatoes pudding was a disappointment, all the other dishes were creative and executed beautifully. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One thing which surprised - they didnt have any alcohol free wine or beer to offer.
Incredible culinary experience in Vilnius. Polite and respectful staff. Great atmosphere and unique decor. All in all a must try for anyone looking for a quality experience but willing to spend more than the average while in town.
Higly recommed this place for a dinner! Everything is more than delicious! All the dishes are prepared from the fresh ingredients that are currently available at the local eco food suppliers. The menu is changing every day. The staff is super friendly and explain everything about the dish you are tasting.
This place is really a gem in Vilnius. Its a fine dining restaurant but the prices of a small restaurant. Its amazing how they do this. The food is perfect. They change the menu regularly,so you can try new things. The prices are so cheap, if this was somewhere in France or Belgium, Id have easily paid around 70-80 EUR per person or even more. Here I ended up paying around 27 per person.I also had the best Beef ribs ever. It was really tender and well done. Amazing experience and staff are very friendly. Id definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting Vilnius.
Fun place with food in a different way. The cod was excellent and the quail so tasty. Not to expensive for this quality restaurant. A must when visiting Vilnius.
What a place! The food is out of this world. Amazing, extraordinary dishes that melts in your mouth, great atmosphere and friendly staff. A restaurant that is a must to go to while in Vilnius! The prices are on the higher side but definitely worth it. Coming back again for sure.
The best restaurant in Lithuania.Must to visit.
One of my favourite places for fine dining in Vilnius. It has good price & quality ratio. I would highly recommend the ribs & cod donuts, though I think they change the meniu once in a while.
Fresh food made from seasonal local ingredients by Master Chef Martynas & his crew. This is Vilnius best kept secret. You need to book in advance as the place is small & fills up quick.
