Bunratty West, Bunratty, Co. Clare, Ireland, Sionainn
1620-era thatched-roof cottage with lanterns and sawdusty floors, once a bar for castle guards.
18/9/22 i was a party of 6 having lunch at about 3pm. Food for 5 of the 6 was terrible. Roast beef dinner just awful, steak burger coud not be cut let alone crewed, chicken vol-au - vent was very bad, chicken goujans definitely gave hours in the oven before reaching the plate. Beef burgers was the only meal that was nice but at €17.95, way too expensive
Fabulous place to eat drink mix an catch up with family and friends ❤️ staff wellcoming and obliging
Poor menu, they were unable to cook omelette, no bread, poor service. Very dark in the bar and two drunks talking at the top of their voices. Wont be back anytime soon.
Great place for nights out. Great music too til midnight. Will definitely be back.
Lovely spot but i wouldn’t recommend their coffee, unfortunately the manager or owner wasn’t very pleasant or welcoming. I asked for a latte but instead I recieved a watery americano with coffee spilt all over the plate, when i asked if i could possibly have more milk he shut me down and said to wait for the milk to run down the glass. Also he filled the baileys with too much ice and tasted nothing like baileys. Needs to review his customer service especially as the prices are high and we are neighbours. Unfortunately i would never return back due to his lack of customer service. Slan!
Durty Nelly’s is a bar-restaurant you have to try, the location is lovely and the food is good, I had the fish and chips it was nice but I don’t like the mushy peas that all Irish restaurants give in a small paper cup with this meal , I would much prefer fresh peas.My wife had the fish chowder as a main meal that consisted of 2x prawns, 2x mussels and 1 piece of fish, I don’t know why restaurants rip people off with this soup that cost €9.80, why can’t they add more fish, we won’t order this again. On the other hand the staff are very friendly and the bar is unique.
As seen in the pictures. its a grate place. TWO STARS FOR LOCATION ONLY. wouldnt be given 5 stars. dont want people to. Think 5 stars is for food its only a chicken burger and chips. You could get that in a takeaway. The food is nice .... but the price of for a chicken burger.... and a few chips. that I could count on my two hands was shocking.... when the lady came out to me to serve me ... and told me €17:95 I nearly fell into the floor.... my first and last time I go there. Should be called ROBBERY NELLYS
Upon arrival, we witnessed a very disgruntled barman being extremely rude to a couple trying to pay their bill but didn’t know what number table they sat at. As he walked past me I could hear him mumble a few expletives that were not called for at all! The sign for where the restaurant begins is around a corner and a good bit away from the entrance, causing a bit of confusion at the main door. The menu is very basic for what you would expect from a place with such a good reputation, I was extremely disappointed in it. The food itself was very underwhelming and for the prices, should be far better! The Cajun chicken burger had no flavour to it whatsoever and the chips were soggy and tasteless. The “salad” was so basic and didn’t even have a bit of dressing on it. While we were there we observed good hygiene practice with all the tables being sprayed and wiped and some of the nearby customers even getting a good spraying! Good practice is to spray onto the cloth, especially if people are close. I for one will not be returning to Durty Nellys and will not be recommending it to anyone I’m afraid.
One of the most famous pubs in Limerick and for good reasons. Set in the grounds of Bunratty with the Castle as a backdrop there is not many better places to have a pint in Ireland. Would be the perfect pub for foreign travellers arriving into Shannon airport to get a feel for a proper Irish pub.
Food came out so fast that it could not have been cooked fresh. Ribs and chicken wings were definitely reheated. I got the sense that they were comfortable in the fact that 90%+ of their customers are passing tourists and are not likely to return anyway
Great location in West Bunratty. Walking distance from the B&B I stayed at (and right across the street from Bunratty castle). Their mussels starter had a great white wine sauce. Id recommend asking for more bread though. The gruyere and pesto chicken was delicious. Roasted veggies were a nice touch and we got double but the scalloped potatoes are a must too. Great selection of wines. They also let you pour your own beer upon request.
Lots of history in this old establishment! Lots of beers on tap and service was fast and friendly. We drank our beers outside so we could enjoy the majestic views of the Irish countryside as well as the massive Bunratty Castle right next door.
The cuisine is really good! Well done, chef!
A well established bar/restaurant especially with the tourists. Location is great, however the time it takes to place your order considering the abundance of staff is terrible! My food was tasty but overpriced. I will continue to call here for a pint or two but not for the food.
Quick service, great Steak Sandwich in the restaurant, and wonderfully cozy 1620s atmosphere
A very cool place to visit as a tourist, especially a tourist from Halifax which has its own (much much youngerDurty Nellys.Food was good and came quickly. Beer was great, obviously keep their taps clean.Service was quick and efficient. The place was busy, but they worked their way through the line smoothly.Ill be back for sure!
Excellent food and a great pub experience on our last night in Ireland, 2017. Going to make this our last pub stop again this fall when we return! Cheers!
Love this spot, been a few times in my life. Pints are good, atmosphere good and the music last night was great. And when the weather is on your side its perfect.
Recommended, food is good and the place is so typical Irish pub
Wonderful staff and delicious food. Staff very knowledgeable about gluten free requirements and Celiac considerations. Menu is marked for gf and staff knows what menu items can be adapted to gluten free. They even know about fryer contamination. Gf hamburger bun is excellent.
Food was amazing! Mushroom soup, mushroom risotto with prawns pil pil. Husband had steak, which was cooked perfectly. Garlic potatoes were delicious. Shared a banoffee pie for dessert, which was so tasty! Washed it all down with Guinness. The staff is on point, attentive and engaging. Great stop! We went twice!
Resting upon the comfort of high tourist traffic. Waited 1 hour, no waiter ever served us or even asked us a question. Left. Can’t say anything about the food
Nice food and great staff
Great craic! Went for a quick bite and stayed all night. Singer / songwriter Fey (?was playing and we really enjoyed her music and singing along to the songs we knew. The Guinness was great and the food excellent- I had the lamb shank and my wife the mussels. Surprisingly good Chilean (? or could have been New ZealandSauvignon Blanc was available as well
Food pretty disappointing considering the price. Steak sandwich was poor, next to no flavour and no toppings other than some crispy onions that look store bought. Quite clearly the place seems to just be run off of tourists visiting but that isn’t an excuse to provide sub standard food. Only positive is that staff are friendly.
Fabulous Traditional Irish pub and restaurant. Lovely friendly service. Wonderful food. Would love to go back afain
Always such a good local pub for drinks and food! Recommend if you’re near the Bunratty area - the staff are just so lovely and there’s a cozy atmosphere whenever you’re in there.
Oh my God. It still exists. I was here as a truck driver 20 years ago. Been together with my wife for 16 years now. Love to come and visit after 20 years. Any good B&Bs not too far away from the pub?
Lovely atmosphere. Lamb shank was out of this world! Wine from France was very good. Bit pricey but worth it.
Service was fast and friendly. There was a good menu which several options. The food was served fast and everyone was happy with their meal. We were 2 adults 2 kids . Good vegetarian options available also.A nice atmosphere here too, it was a cold night so great to see the turf fire lighting.
400 year old pub. We went here for a late afternoon lunch. Very cosy. We were well treated by the staff and the food was delicious. I would definitely recommend visiting.
Had the soup of the day (mushroomand toasty combo. While the soup was delicious, the toasty could have been cooked a bit more and have a bit more cheese. It would have been perfect. Too bad I can’t do 4.5s :(
Nice looking place. BUT, we went there to eat during peak pandemic and we were ushered across the floor by an unmasked barman to a seating area where people were packed together at tables, with no concern for social distancing. If the management and staff arent concerned with their customers health and safety, thats a big no-no.BTW, I am writing this while looking at Dirty Nellys from across the road at the excellent Jilly and Joes restaurant, where the staff wear masks, social distancing is observed and the food is AMAZING! Highly recommended.
Loved this spot! Went for lunch on a Monday and got seating inside. Very cozy and great food/drink. I can imagine it gets very busy on the weekend and evenings.
Had a lovely time tonight at the restaurant the waitess that gave us our drinks was lovely. Didnt get her name . John our waiter was wonderful. The prices were fair and the food was delicious and came out at a good pace. I had the volavount best one Ive had and the baileys cheesecake was amazing.my friend were very satisfied with the lamb shank and the chicken burger. The lam shank was meaty very little fat. And my friend was raving about the cajun sauce.
We loved this spot - unique and atmospheric, lovely friendly staff and AMAZING beef and guiness stew with mash on special. Perfect if you’re looking for a cosy afternoon. They apparently have live music often too!
Had fab evening. Customer Service was fab..princess Fiona and lovely blonde girl with American sorry could be any other accent were lovely . Very accommodating. Food 10 out of 10. Definitely will be back soon..
Excellent location. Lovely traditional pub. Good food and drink.
Have visited Durty Nellie’s on many occasions and have always been impressed. Lovely staff, delicious food (my fillet steak has always been cooked as ordered and the pepper sauce is excellentand of course a perfect pint of Guinness. The interior is made up of several different rooms and has real Old World charm. The building is lovely and sits beside the river with Bunratty Castle looming splendidly and spectacular from above. The pub was built for The Men at Arms who manned the castle for so many hundreds of years and you can imagine them slaking their thirst by the hearths inside. Don’t miss it!
Hamburgers were really expensive at 16 pounds each. Chips were not freshly cut ..came out of bag /chiller
I really enjoyed it here. Food was lovely and very friendly warm atmosphere. Seeing all the police and fire department badges is cool and all around the restaurant. Would highly recommend it for a pint or food or a nice stop in before visiting bunratty Castle.
I would highly recommend this ancient pub, good atmosphere beside the old castle, the staff is very polite, the food was served very fast i would say. Delicious food.
The locals were very friendly and told us great stories that got us on the floor rolling with laughter. The fish and chips were phenomenal! Theres plenty of area for diners and bar customers. They did take credit cards! Our server was honest and friendly. Great place!!
The oysters are really fresh and amazing. The grilled sea bream was really good too. Guiness was one of the best I have had with a very nice creamy head. Was totally not expecting the quality of the food and really pleased we tried it. Nice location by the river, we sat out in the patio. There was live music later in the evening inside. Highly recommended.
Great pub very nice place. Has a gigantic display of patches from around the world of police fire departments and EMS.The food was very fairly priced and portions were rather lager. The muscle dinner special was very good and had a nice flavor. The steak sandwich were cooked perfectly and very tender. You must stop in for dinner and a few pints.
This place is outstanding! 400 year old pub next to a castle. Food was amazing, friendly service, local Mead, one of the coolest places we have ever eaten.
Best Seafood Chowder I had in Ireland!Lovely place with lovely Irish foods. Lamb, beef, chicken, seafood - they have everything!
We arrived late and in the rain. It was hard to tell where you were suppose to park. We went inside and it was packed. We were served a few beers and then took a table. We just ordered Oysters that were ok but not great. The liveliness of the pub was great. The band started shortly after we arrived and it was a great set up.
Right next door to the Bun Ratty, you would think the prices would be astronomical, but theyre not! Reasonably priced, full selection menu. I ordered the Irish Lasagna, and the portion was large enough for two people. Add in a hard cider, and I paid less than $20 Euros. Great atmosphere, and wonderful out door seating. I suggest sitting out on the loft.
My favorite pub in the world! Always nice cosy Irish atmosphere and good mixture of tourists and locals. They have a good restaurant menu in Oyster bar as well as a good bar food menu to enjoy with a pint while listening to trad music. Lovely to sit outside here in Summer as well!
