P.za del Duomo, 20122 Milano MI, Italy, Milano
One of the largest cathedrals in the world, this iconic masterpiece took over 600 years to complete.
This is a very large cathedral. It is bigger than it looks on the outside. The exterior is very beautiful, but the interior although very large is plain. The floor is beautiful. My issue with this church is that when we visited, we could only see about 65% of it. Lots of it was roped off and on top of that we had to dodge the cleaning crew with their cleaning equipment. The cathedral opens at 9:00AM and why can’t cleaning be done between 8:00 and 9:00? Why is a good portion of it roped off? Knowing what I know now, I would have enjoyed the outside and not paid to enter. The Archeological Area they include in the ticket price is irrelevant with nothing to see really. The Duomo Museum is the best of the 3 if you buy the combo ticket. I would only buy that one and skip the other 2.
Amazing cathedral right in the heart of the square that was absolutely buzzing. Great to see. Unusually wide, especially for such a huge cathedral but breathtaking and an immense amount of detail in all the carvings. Well worth a visit.
Buy the ticket online! Easier to get through. Not a long wait. 15euro ticket will get you inside the cathedral, into the archaeological site, the museum, and the rooftop by stairs. Incredible experience! Highly recommend to anyone who goes to Milan.
This place is amazing. My suggestions:- Do take the rooftop trip. It’s totally worth it. If you have trouble using stairs, buy elevator tickets.- There are photographers outside the building. They take amazing pictures. Definitely recommend that- Inside of this building is beautiful.
Great experience visiting this cathedral with my fiance. We got the ticket with the lift for the roof which I liked since the line was shorter. This place takes your breath away. 6 centuries to get where it is today. True Master peace. Ans definitely go on the roof too, it is well worth it. And archeological area wasnt all that impressive however but still a good experience. Worth the 20 euros.
A must see! The third largest basilica in the world and one of the few you can walk around the rooftop. The exterior is astounding with thousands of statues and hundreds of gargoyles. It was worth having a private guide. The interior has many interesting stories to be told as well. The stained glass is gorgeous.
One of the biggest church you will see in Europe. The intricate design of the church takes 5 centuries to complete! Amazing to read and see it in person. Did the rooftop walk, which can be tough for the elderly given how high it goes. Highly recommend to visit if you are in Milan :)
Amazing experience, keep in mind only one elevator on the back of the church if you got the elevator you have to back to get it, if you go to the front of the church you will have to reach the cathedral getting the stairs. If you have seniors with you dont get the stairs that is .y advice, be ready to take unique photos and before to go just check on history what gargoyles means, you will se them.Beautiful and unique experience
Duomo di Milano is just a place where you can get lost and forget about the present times. The first look takes you back to the greatness of art and the perfectionism made by the designer who took care of every single detail in the building.Inside there is statues crafted every where in the walls which you can’t take your eyes away from them being stunned by the perfect and amazing artistic touch. The plaza in front is as amazing and spacious as the Duomo itself. Also the galleria mall beside completes the magic touch of the place.Nearby restaurants can hold you there the whole day where you can enjoy the famous pizza and pasta with the secret Sauce.I really loved it.
Fabulous experience to visit the Duomo in Milan. We took the Skip the like tickets for the full tour (Rooftops, Cathedral and Museum), although that was a mistake. While we were able to go to the rooftops, the cathedral closed in the afternoon and opened at 5PM in the evening. This was a major inconvenience as we had not planned for the same and we ended up missing the cathedral visit completely. Considering we paid 55 Euros for 2 persons as part of the Rooftop and Cathedral visit, this proved to be a relatively expensive mistake.Nevertheless the rooftop visit was awesome. Some advice - the rooftop visit is pretty long and more so on a weekend. You have to wait in the line while it moves along the rooftop. Also the lift only takes you to a particular floor, after which you still have to climb a few more flights of stairs and I didnt see accessibility ramps for those stairs. And the trip back to the ground floor is by the stairs for most people. The views are magnificent from the top and the architecture is just stunning. Must visit for sure and I intend to go back to see the Cathedral again.
Beautiful view from the rooftop and a must do in milan. The cathedral is still in renovation but still a very nice view. However, the entry rules are quite funny. We were not allowed in with our shirts from a cartoon series unless we wear something over it. Would recommend anyone to be aware of their dress code (no skirts, shorts above the knees etc.before booking.
Must see tourist attraction! For someone who loves architecture this place has lot to offer and admire. We took the stairs to reach the top and enjoyed the city view from there. Personally loved the detailed carvings at the entrance
Absolutely a must do . If you cant climb the 220 stairs you can take the swift lift. Once up its very easy and flat to walk around and view the amazing structure up close and the equally amazing view of the city
An absolute must see! Make sure to get tickets with rooftop access. I purchased tickets in advance including fast pass, but it seemed like there was no line to get in if you get there early in the morning. Of course, advance tickets are usually best. Photos do not capture the beauty and incredible architecture
Definitely a must see. Get the rooftop ticket access and book the earlier ones. I bought the full access and it was well worth it for me. I read that going to the rooftop by foot might be faster than waiting in line for the lift access. As of Sept 2023, part of the roof was closed off due to cleaning/restoration. But the views and experience was nonetheless amazing.
Was an amazing experience visiting the Duomo. You must visit also the terraces and the interior of you are there, even if the prices are a little high (in my opinion). Also, I would recommend to buy online tickets and visit it in the morning when there are not so many people.
A masterpiece of magnificence. Lots of sculptures on each side of the building. Already felt honored to be there to witness such views from various positions.Very suitable for walking in that area on a relaxing day!!
Had a short wait for lift up to the roof area then some steps to reach the spires and rising buttresses. To be so close to the ornate carvings was amazing. Then we went even higher to the top of the roof surrounded by spires pointing to the skies. Amazing! The 250 steps down were a bit of a challenge but well worth it. We stayed in the body of the Church for a while admiring the stained glass windows then sat to take in the experience.
Such a beautiful and eventful place. It is a Piazza (squareand cathedral well worth a visit. If you are planning to visit the cathedral and go inside do buy your tickets online for best price. Amazing cathedral and roof worth a visit but underground not worth. You will find many day time pictures I thought of to share how it looks at night time. Still many people even at late night.
Didn’t get a chance to go inside but definitely worth seeing if you need to hit the highlights of Milan.. it’s breathtaking!! Beautifully crafted and massive in stature. Usually very crowded especially on weekends so beware the picket pockets if people are getting too close
Great building. Architecture masterpiece which you want to look and look at. Same interesting inside as outside. Dont hesitate to take guided tour - you will know a lot if interesting things. If want to climb up to the up - calculate your power, some people better to take elevator, because stairs is really hard way.
Great and beautiful place, if you have the opportunity to go to the roof definitely use it! It is euros for the stairs option and 15 for the lift option, best to buy online. The stairs option is definitely manageable with basic fitness, takes no more than 5 minutes to get upstairs. It can he quite crowded however and you might have to wait in the queue despite buying the tickets online! Be careful about the luggage you take up there as they control very vigorously and we had to leave our bags elsewhere.
Amazing really. In the Gothic style it is not as pretty as some other cathedrals but the building itself is the star. It is absolutely covered in detailed sculpture. Well worth going up on the roof. It holds so many people that line up is never that long and entry is normally only slowed down by the security checks.
Mesmerising view from the rooftops. The cathedral on the inside is also a must see. The ticket for both the rooftops and the cathedral is €15, if you are okay with climbing stairs to the top (there is a €20 option for those who wish to take the lift). It’s important to keep in mind that you should be appropriately dressed when going inside - skirts and shorts are not allowed, but you can purchase a cloak from the ticket shop for €2.50 before entering.
Was very pretty. You cant imagine how big it is until your see it yourself.First of you need to watch your clothing. not too short. (Shoulders and knees coveredif you dont have that go buy a paper towel near the dome on the right side to cover you its like 50ct.I would suggest buying the ticket online(get your Guideand then just go into the dome on the right side with ticket on your phone. You can go into the "catacombs" they sound cooler then they are but are worth checking out. After seeing the inside you leave the dome and go on the left side either stairs or lift. I recommend going there very early or very late so your dont have to wait too long we went there 4pm and didnt need to wait.Very impressive building worth spending the 16€.👌
Simple beautiful! We got the private tour with the official guide from Duomo and she really knows lots of history fact and everything that happened. The glasses, And sun line to tell the time, the underground discovered church, the old and modern sculpture by different artists and events. The view from top is great and you can see all the amazing details. We loved it!
They have a QR code for online ticket purchasing which is a joke. It keeps refreshing on the payment page no matter how many times we tried. Luckily the ticket purchasing line wasn’t that long, it took us about 20 minutes to get the tickets from one of the vending machines which located inside the ticket building. So if you can book the tickets ahead of time, do it. Regardless, it definitely worth a visit and both the rooftop and inside the cathedral are amazing. Also, we purchased the stair climbing ticket which took us a while to climb up, and you can purchase the lift ticket if you are not in the climbing mood but the lift line was definitely much longer.
Worth visiting! I ended up just doing the rooftop terrace and didn’t pay extra to go in the cathedral (you get to walk through quickly as you exit the terraces which was enough for me). Get in line 10-15 min before it opens so you don’t have to wait long and it isn’t crowded with people. Definitely a must see!
For sure the architecture of the Cathedral is incredible taking account that it took over six hundred years to finish. All the spikes, sculptures were breath taking. Its the real object of religious culture. Worth seeing. Maybe not sleeping beneath it. Concrete floor is hard for your back :)
Largest cathedral in the world lots to see. Lots to experience. Also, lots of repair working constantly ongoing. The roof tour is worth doing, just know you are walking down mostly in stairways without handrails. Lots of people everywhere. The Duomo Plaza is worth seeing also.the
It is such a humbling experience to be standing here in front of Duomo marvelling at such an impossible endeavour of human kind.Just imagine all the workers and engineers that were involved in the process. All the generations of people who helped shape this magnificent building during the span of sixth centuries.Queues are very long. Book your tickets in advance. Do mind the dress code. It’s a religious object and should be respected as such.
One of must go place when you visit Milano, amazing architecture and worth every penny you spend!!! Two way to climb the top, by stairs and lift. If u are fit, definitely go for the stairs, wonderful time!
Definitely get the video guide which helps the tour around the main cathedral, museum, underground and roof. Queues weren’t too bad for a Saturday morning and move efficiently. Some stunning views inside and outside and good exhibits.
What can I say..this place is awesome! It is absolutely beautiful inside and out. Definitely pay to access the roof either by taking the stairs (little to no wait time), or by elevator. Navigating the roof not only gives you incredible views of the city and of the courtyard, but youll see the statues and carvings on the top of the building up close! Where else can one do this??? Inside the church is also beautiful. Be sure to dress to code however. Shoulders need to be covered ( no spaghetti strapsand shorts or skirts need to go down to tops of the knees. If you dont have the "proper attire" you will be asked to return outside where you can obtain a paper gown to wear over your clothes while visiting the church. The church was very busy and hugely popular in June. But we are so happy that we did it!
Enjoyed a quick visit to this iconic attraction.Really loved the ability to venture in the rooftop which was surprising and awesome (despite the ongoing restoration work).Views from the top are fantastic. The inside is grand too.Staff were helpful and polite.Although it could benefit from better signage.Access inside to some areas restricted 😏
What must amazed me was being walking on the top of the roof, which is not common. The Duomo is big, the architecture of the outside is very impressive and beautiful. The church inside, based on the other churches I have seen before, this one didn’t impressive. As any other European church, of course is beautiful and it’s big, I have seen better ones. But, I think you should go because every perspective is always different and it’s worth it.I took the lift (elevatorto go to the top. This entrance is on the right side of the back of the church. Opposite side where you can buy the tickets.IMPORTANT: for women you tummy needs to be cover and your shoulders. I had a tide dress and it wasn’t a problem. My husband had shorts and a t-shirt and he was fine go inside. The elevator doesn’t go down, it’s only to go up. We took the stairs to come down.
The cathedral is very impressive. We came on a very hot Saturday in June and the best thing we did was to book our tickets in advance. We bought the rooftop ticket with the elevator since we came with a small child. There is the option to go by stairs but its more than 200 steps. Even having bought the ticket you have to wait in line but in our case it didnt take more than 30min to get in. The other line was longer. On the rooftop the view is impressive and you can stay as long as you want. Not many shades to protect from the sun. The construction itself is amazing and definitely worth the visit. You go down the stairs and it ends inside the cathedral which is also stunning. If you get the ticket to visit the whole cathedral - which we didnt find necessary - keep in mind you have to cover knees and shoulders to get in.
A must visit. A truly spectacular building don’t forget to do all levels. Roof inside and lower. Its worth going with a guided tour as they give you some amazing tips. Makes looking at all the marble and intricate details so much more interesting. Like some if the little things the architects have snuck in to the works. No spoilers!
Extremely beautiful, spectacular and impressive cathedral! I was truly amazed to see it from the inside. It totally worth visiting! You can purchase tickets from the building across the street on the right side. There is normal tickets or with climbing up the towers included. The waiting line wasnt that long but probably it depends on the month. I was there in May and got inside really quickly. If you plan to visit the cathedral without a guided tour, do the research about it history, because there are a lot of details which have a lot of more meaning if you know even a piece of it story. I did the mistake to didn’t research about the history of the cathedral and now Im sorry.
An absolute "must seen". Currently - in June 22 - a mask is still needed to get insinde. Hope they think about it immediately. If you buy a Ticket at the office, you need to wear a mask as well... but they dont sell masks, so you have to buy them before at a Kiosk nearby. 1,50 Euro for a FFP2. Thanks for skip the line by the second try ... with the new masks. We didnt need to wait a long time to enter the Dome. But on a hot day, a 15 minutes wait can be a long time - there is no shadow around. Security check for everyone. What you see after all this, makes worth it.Fascinating and amazing what previous builders was able to realize such a monumental building. We also visited the terrace - please do that, if you are physically able. Never seen anything like that before. Everywhere such details in the building. Amazing for this smallcircle of people, to whom that roof was accessible in earlier times. If you just want to pray, there is an entrance at the side of the Dome. There is no charge for them and you can get inside, but you cant go around like a visitor.A clear recommendation on my part.
One of a kind that still inspires awe even in a jaded visitor that has seen many ornate and huge European cathedrals. Visit inside of course but go up on the roof top of you can. Unforgettable. Very significant works of art wherever you look.
I was there in February and got inside really quickly.
Such an amazing place. I have not actually been in side the cathedral itself, but it looks absolutely fantastic from the outside. The architecture of it is so sophisticated and the level of detail in it is design is mind blowing. There is a gold statue on the top. I heard Italian Mafias tried to rob this gold statue by attaching it to a helicopter, but the police managed to retrieve it.
If you only have time to see one sight in Milan, the Duomo should be it. Milans Duomo is considered the largest and most unique Gothic complex in all of Italy, having taken about a half a millennium to build. And once youve spent some time at the Duomo, its easy to see why its considered a masterpiece. The Duomo displays an inordinate amount of impressive architectural details both in and outside of its walls. The exterior is dotted with thousands of intricately-carved statues (2,300 to be exactdepicting both religious figures and stories from the Bible, including Jesus crucifixion. And its interiors are even more intricate. Inside youll find a thousand more statues, sky-high marble columns, gilded ceilings, striking stained glass windows and loads of paintings scattered throughout. The detail even goes all the way down to the floors, where youll find geometric-patterned marble lined throughout, and so much more.Go and see it if you can.
Gorgeous! Architecture is stunning and the trek up the stairs was DEFINITELY worth the sweat! View from the rooftop was gorgeous and a stunning experience. Shame 1 side of the cathedral was reserved for prayer and worship (although amazing they had the option available!!as it cut you off from some of the artworks and part of the audio guide tour. Maybe a different area for worship should be worked out because the tour missed out some beautiful parts and artworks of the cathedral. Staff were extremely helpful when I didn’t know where to collect my audio guide from and even let me skip scanning my tickets and bag check again when I re-entered the cathedral. Amazing experience
The dome is an unmissable tourist attraction, the price of the entrance ticket differs depending on how you want to climb on the roof of the dome, with the elevator the entrance costs 20 euros, and on the stairs it is a few euros cheaper. The ticket price includes a visit to the dome, its roof and the museum. I recommend you buy tickets online from the official website.
It’s a must! Absolutely gorgeous both in and out. I recommend getting the elevator lift so once you’re up there your not too tired to take pics and enjoy the great views. Tickets can be purchased online or at the ticket office. If you have a specific time I recommend booking online in advance but if you have no prior engagement throughout the day you can purchase them at the office.
Its a symbol of Milan and one of the largest cathedrals in Italy and Europe.Shopping is what draws most crowds to this area.Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo.Breathtaking stained glass representation. The Duomo is an absolute marvel to see in person and a beautiful, beautiful piece of architecture and history.Duomo Pass lift costs €20, if you take stairs its €15, culture and cathedral passes costs €10 & €5 respectively.
Duomo is one of my favourite places in the world! No matter how many times I visit Duomo, no matter the season, or time of the day, can’t help but feel happy, safe and calm when I stare at the beautiful 600+ year old masterpiece! The cathedral is a work of art that one has to stop and admire! The door itself is a masterpiece in its own! Thanks to the 300+ artists who have come together to create Duomo!
Milans Duomo is the largest, most interesting, most beautiful & definitely most unique Gothic church in Italy, and it is a MUST SEE! I promise it will take your breath away, and it’s worth going to see in the morning (when it’s less crowdedand then again at night (when it’s all lit up). You might even want a guide to help explain or point out the thousands of intricately-carved statues of religious figures.
