Tours of one-time MacDonnell Clan HQ with a courtyard and fortifications on rocky outcrops.
Very interesting castle. Im sure there were men lost during the building as it is out on a wind swept point with cliffs, dangerous rocks and surf below. Lots of areas to explore and the short video to start your tour is very interesting. It is a little pricey but overall worth the money. They have done some restoring but not to the point of looking fake. The sights down the coastal cliffs and under the bridge are beautiful and give lots of opportunities to take some really interesting pictures. Parking could be a problem as it is very limited. We were lucky as one car pulled out giving us the only spot open. Tour buses make it a little problematic in coming in or out of the one lane entrance and exit, so be careful entering from the highway.
Dunluce Castle was my first stop off my ”Castles To Visit in Ireland” checklist, and it did NOT disappoint. Absolutely stunning view from all angles, and loads of interesting history behind it. There are plaques in most areas describing what once was there.Only downside was quite crowded and had to pay an entry fee to get in 😅 it’s to be expected as it’s a common tourist attraction
Stunning old castle, free to view unless you wish to walk within its walls.Cash only payments.
Pretty cool, I would say the views are better than the ruins themselves. But fun for a bit of exploring and good value. The Mermaids cave which was a huge draw for me to come had been blocked off (likely for good cause), so it was a bit disappointing to hike down there and find you weren’t to go near it but just view it from quite a distance. Otherwise we found the staff lovely and we had a beautiful sunny day to explore!
We arrived right before they closed the gates which is 30 minutes before closing. The staff was friendly when I realized I forgot my wallet in the car, but she let me run back to get it anyway. The guides inside were really friendly and even shared a story with me about some local folklore. The castle is beautiful on the cliffs and has amazing views inside as well.
A lovely interesting ruins of a castle with loads of history. Only £6 to go it. Its definitely worth a visit.
Great experience for those visiting Northern Ireland. Beautiful castle ruins, picturesque views of cliffs/coasts, reasonable price of admission, etc. Worth seeing. Youll spend 30-60 minutes here depending on how much you wander and read up on things.
Fabulous dramatic views of the medieval castle on the Antrim coast, used in the Games of Thorns, care needed for the walk down the steps, but worth the views when there.
Easy and quick visit! Especially if you’re already in the area for Portrush or Giant’s Causeway. They charge admission to enter but there is a path that is free that goes under it and is worth a quick walk.
I adored exploring this castle. The cliff views were surreal and the ruins were magical. The guides were also very helpful and informative.
Unfortunately, we visited the castle on a day when it was closed. But it looks pretty impressive from afar. 🍀Next time, more photos and impressions 😁
Fascinating place and impressive to see, right on the edge of the cliff. Prices are reasonable too £6 per adult when we visited Sept 2022). Well worth a visit. May not be suitable if you are unsteady on your feet as some of the areas could be slippy (cobbles and uneven ground/steps).
If you like go castles this is the first place to visit I thoroughly enjoyed this place because its just breathtakingly beautiful and you can have so many different views of the ocean just look at the photos and youll see what I mean because its just unbelievably beautiful place
Beautiful view from the road way. Our tour coach driver stopped and let us take our amazing photos from road side rather than being taken from inside the coach passing by. Its a great spot. Great photos. Hope yall get a chance to take your photos. Road is a bit narrow as it splits where we pulled over. Hope yall like the angle we took and see the group of smiling faces.❤️🍀
Probably the best views we saw between Ireland and Northern Ireland I wish I had been feeling better so I could have taken more time to enjoy it more
Where do I start! This is 10000% worth a visit! Just be careful with Parking!! It’s a very cheap sightseeing spot!! Gorgeous views packed with lots of history! The staff is very lovely, especially the lady who works there!! We couldn’t believe how amazing it was! Please make sure you stop by! Otherwise you will regret it!!
Great castle ruins along the shore. Last entry is 16:30 and entry is £6. Worth the visit but just as great of views from the car park a half mile west!
Beautiful Castle , must see 😉It was super windy but an amazing experience.Beautiful views around the castle , and a nice view point not far from the castle .Car park available, shop as wellNot far from Giants Causeway and Ballintoy harbour
Awesome place....the history is fascinating. Well worth the £6 entrance fee. Bus stop right at the entrance
Fabulous place just unfortunate that it was raining but we still enjoyed our time here. Beautiful scenery even when it rains so would be spectacular on a sunny dry day.
Fabulous castle to visit. Ruins show aee very large qith helpful historical information included. Would be interested in a guided tour to provide more historical information.
It was a castle right off the cliffs with wonderful views of the coastline. The best part was the views of the arch. There were still lots of walls and spaces to walk through. You could imagine what it looked like, but it wasnt like walking through many of the castles in France. It was fun anyway. Take a look if you are in the area!
Great, picturest scenic castle. Bring a raincoat (not an umbrellaalong with your camera. The view on and out of the castle is fuel for romance.Guides are on site. Good developed for dissabled, may not to 100% but feasable.
Beautiful castle ruins. Wouldve been nice to actually get to walk through the ruins aswell. A real jobsworth closed the gates bang on 4.30pm and refused to let a bus tour (plus myselfin at 4.33pm (1-7-2022). Very disappointing and three minutes wouldnt have harmed anyone. What is an attraction like this doing closing at such an early time in summer anyway?? It should be open until at least 6pm. Their stubbornness threw away £60 - £70 in entry fees.
Another beautiful sight along the coastal scenic route. The staff are friendly and have a good breadth of knowledge. The signage is informative and the map easy to follow. Partway wheelchair accessible.
Beautiful 🏰 castle view point. You have an entry free to get into the castle. Must visit place on your trip to Northern Ireland / Coleraine
Gorgeous castle ruins made again famous by Game of Thrones. We were incredibly lucky to have a beautiful sunny day which doubled our pleasure. Came on a tour from Dublin
Fantastic place to visit. I have been there before the visitors centre was built and after. Not as famous as the Causeway or Carrick a Rede but defo always on my to do list when visiting the Antrim coast. The visitors centre is really well built and very sympathetic to its surroundings so I was thrilled to see that. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore in the castle. For Game of Thrones fans this is Castle Greyjoy. The scenery around this whole area is breathtaking. Picture will never do it justice. So put quite simply you must see with your own eyes.
Fantastic castle ruins with an awesome view right over the water! The pictures online did not disappoint - the restoration efforts have been respectful to the original buildings and give a good idea of what the castle looked like in its prime. My favorite castle of about 10 that we saw in Ireland/Northern Ireland.
Thanks to Dave and Sidney from Wild Rover Tours for a full and fun day! The destinations were breathtaking, the weather was exhilarating, and the bus rides in between were educational and fun! Thanks for the history, and for the great music!
Not so crowded even on Saturday morning! It is worth the 6 pounds. Definitely a must!
Nice to experience a castle from the 1600s preserved and kept in brilliant condition. The exhibition room gives a wonderful insight to the castles history
Cool spot to visit! The castle was relatively well preserved and the views were fantastic. Took probably 45min to get through the whole place.
Really cool castle to visit. I enjoyed reading the history on the plaques. Very windy day for us but still a great time.
Its a lovely ruin ,but with all the beautiful ruins around ireland that are free to view , you make your way around this castle in about 20 / 30 mins . It is a nice place to visit but alot blocked off and paths blocked . Worth a visit though .Ticket was £18 2ad 2kids
Beautiful castle located out on the edge of a cliff. Beautiful views of surrounding cliffs and sea. Best visited on a sunny day if possible. Ticket machine was broken the day we went so we got in for free! Definitely worth the few pounds the ticket would have cost if you are near the area.
Great location and views from inside the castle. You can see most of the coastline and breathe the fresh sea air.
This castle was built in the13th century. What left from it is not that much, but you can see the inside architecture and the wonderful spot that the caslte have. The day that i visited was so windy and raining, but was worth it.
Worth every penny. Oceanic view is gorgeous, castle structure gives a good perception about how it was on its golden age. Ticket price is fair.
Third time I visit this castle and I loved it every time. Impressive views, bring a good camera, this coast is beautiful! Easy parking at the entrance. The visit will take you about an hour. Good for kids too.
It wasnt a good experience. Its very rare for me to give a poor review anywhere. A lot of the castle is closed and the total area you can walk is limited. They do not tell you this of course. You only realise that once you pay the full price and go inside. We got there around 4 30 pm. 10-15 minutes in someone asks us to leave because they are closing. We ask if the castle closes at 5 pm he says yes but the time to walk until the exit will be 5 pm... We walked for 2 minutes until we reached the exit... Conclusion we left the castle at 4.45pm. we couldnt even see the little that the castle has to offer for the price we paid. Unacceptable.Ps: game of thrones was not filmed here, but may have been used as inspiration. (Just some info about that, nothing to do with the review score)
The Giant’s Causeway part of a stunning stretch of coastline called the Causeway Coast, but if you don’t fancy driving it, there are a couple of other must visit places close by, including Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Dunluce Castle, used as the location of Castle Greyjoy in Game of Thrones.Tucked away on a cliffside west of the Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle gives you a real “wow” moment as it comes into view. The castle, which balances on the edge of a rocky outcrop is accessed via a bridge which connects it to the mainland. This stunning castle reminded me of our visit to Dunnottar Castle in Scotland as is surrounded on three sides by 100 foot cliffs! The medieval castle, which was built in the 1500’s, is now a ruin, but still has partial remains of its round corner towers and outer wall, which makes it perfect for exploring.Inside the remains of the Manor House you can clearly see where the first floor would have been and one of the bay windows has been reconstructed to give some extra stability to the building and to give an impression of what the original windows would have looked like.
The castle in which the Eyre from Game of Thrones was inspired. At the edge of the cliff, with such a great view of the sea. Definitely worth the six pounds it costs to enter.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Stunning views and some history
Brilliant place to visit..the views out to the ocean and area surrounding castle are beautiful..free car park. Have to pay to get into castle..and it was in the game of thrones so if your a fan its definitely worth a visit...
One of the best views over the cliffs and coastline in the whole of Northern Ireland. The castle is open during the day itself. Fantastic castle ruins and a great day out for the family, small gift shop. The cost is worth the visit, 5.65 each adult in euros.
Cool to walk around the old castle ruins. Better than I expected. Great views of the cliffs too.
The blueprint for the greyjoys castle! Although walking the grounds it would be a little difficult to tell that. The castle itself is in rough condition but still has held up fairly well for the age. You can go up the tower and see where all of the buildings were set up.Theres a nice little gift shop that has some interesting items for gifts.Youll probably spend about 35-45 minutes and be able to set everything this attraction has to offer.
Went early in the day, around the opening time of 9:30, so had the place virtually to ourselves. Staff were friendly and on hand to answer questions and share their impressive knowledge of the castle. Despite the morning mist the views along the cliffs were impressive and it only made the castle more atmospheric.
Fantastic castle ruins and a great day out for the family, small gift shop provides a nice variety of medieval themed items including wooden swords and shields etc and a map is given upon entry which details each area in and around the castle grounds. Very interesting read and some beautiful scenery to take in and enjoy, will definitely return and would highly recommend
