This famous walk along the historical defensive walls encircling the city offers dramatic views.
Dubrovnik City Walls in Dubrovnik
Description
This is an amazing experience. The views from the wall are most rewarding. We went at opening hour and had the walls to ourselves. Took more than 100 pics without interference. We entered at 8:00 at Pile Gate entrance. The climb is not bad there. The wall goes one way (counter clockwise), and make sure to follow the direction to not be turned back at the check points. There are 3 entrances and you can be turned back for going in the wrong direction. The attendants can also check your tickets as they checked ours. To avoid overpaying, buy your tickets at the entry gates (credit card or cash), or purchase online from* shop.citywallsdubrovnik.hr * and the current cost for the combined Lovrjenac & City Walls is €34 per person. I would recommend purchasing the combined tickets as the Lovrjenac Fort is very nice too. DO NOT purchase tickets from 3rd parties as they come with 25%-40% fee on them. We walked the whole thing at a relaxed pace in 75 minutes and we stopped to take pictures along the way. This is a must when visiting Dubrovnik. Comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are a must. There are little food and drink shops at the wall along the way also. Enjoy…
MoreDubrovnik in Croatia is a great place to visit. Lot to do and the walk around the walls is excellent. It was nice seeing many of the spots that Game of Thrones was filmed in too.
MoreReally enjoyed our visit here , worth every penny of the Dubrovnik Pass 300KN ( 3 day pass with other attractions included Absolutely stunning views all around the walk both of the city and out to sea and along the coast. You can amble around at your own place with many refreshment stops to sit and admire the scenery . Definitely a highlight of visiting this stunningly beautiful city.
MoreFirst and last time in Dubrovnik.33e to walk the wall, 5e for a 250ml bottle of coke, 20e for a burger without chips.Extortionate prices everywhere, I wouldnt recommend Dubrovnik as a city to visit. There are other beautiful old towns along the coast for a fraction of the price.
MoreExcellent experience and spectacular views of the Old Town, especially from the Trdava Minceta tower at the far N corner (worth the steep steps up). Be aware that there are a *lot* of steps on the walls, and it may take you 90 mins - 2 hours for a leisurely walking circuit. Elderly people or young kids may struggle. There are 2 or 3 cafes for (expensiverefreshments, and the cafe at the S end has public toilets. I recommend starting the circuit at about 16:00 to avoid the heat of mid-afternoon and get the nice sunset light.I have removed a star because the Walls ticket price is absolutely ridiculous at 35 Euro. Anywhere else it would be 10-12 Euro max. The only sensible thing to do is buy a Dubrovnik Pass (1-day = approx 35 Eurowhich includes the walls and a bunch of other attractions which you can do the same day. However if you get a Pass you dont get the Lovrenjac fortress included, which you do if you buy a separate Walls ticket. All a bit of a scam if you ask me!
MoreA nice walk, unfortunately let down by a rude ticket booth attendant who said we only get one walk out of our expensive 7 day pass… people can say read terms and conditions blah blah blah but when you pay that much you expect multiple use and not to be pretty much shouted at with no apology. Also, tourists don’t look when they have done looking at the view and nearly walk into my pregnant wife, Of course that’s not Dubrovniks fault. Just a warning. Otherwise pretty views all around and a nice visit, just a rude man who let himself and the attraction down!
MoreAmazing experience , great views on a walk that can last between an hour to two hours. Two bars and a refreshment stop along the way. Has the best views of the old town and fort lovrijenac. Tickets for the wall walk alone are the same price as a one day tourist pass, which includes free public transport, museum access and the fort for the same price of 250 Kuna.
MoreBe there as soon as they open… the walking path gets narrow at certain areas so it’s more difficult to walk with LOTS OF PEOPLE…. Also it’s much more comfortable to walk miles and miles before the sun hits you like a hammer… it’s definitely worth to visit…. Get your sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, comfortable shoes/sandals….
MoreThis is a must do in Dubrovnik. We went in Sept 2022 so it may have been a bit less crowded and took us about an hour to walk. Gorgeous views!
MoreQuite pricey but so worth it!! Such beautiful views!! The best time to visit is early morning or on golden hour!!
MoreThe walls of Dubrovnik are iconic, no doubt, but are they worth 35 Euro per person or almost $40? Im not sure about that. As glamorous as it sounds, walking the walls is not that pleasant. There is no shade up there whatsoever, and the views, though initially stunning, quickly become repetitious, and in concert with the heat, they turn to old news as you start searching for shade, water and eventually the exit. I, for one, did not finish the circuit and bowed out before the heat stroke had the chance to do me in.
MoreNice walk with a lot of stairsIt will take around 1 hour to circle the wall
These historic and medieval walls that surround the Old Town of Dubrovnik are quite simply amazing in all senses. Aesthetically they are stunning to look at, the construction and condition is very good given their age and the historical events that have been presented to the walls from battles to earthquakes.I will not attempt to become an expert historian of the walls but can direct you to the official website for such information which is citywallsdubrovnik.hr as here, you will find all the expert knowledge and information you could need to know. From a tourist perspective, walking the top of the walls is an absolute must if visiting Dubrovnik. My advice would be to first spend a day or two exploring the streets at ground level then by time you walk the walls you will be able to relate easier to things you have seen at ground level. There are two main entrances to the walls being near Pile Gate and Ploce Gate. Entrance for an adult is 250 Kuna so not entirely cheap however, the experience you will get is superb and also be safe in the knowledge your monies will go towards the ongoing and future upkeep of these very important walls.Another recommendation would be to start walking the walls circa 5 to 5.30pm. By this time, in particular during summer the heat will have subsided a little but primarily, if the weather is good you will also catch some wonderful sunsets over the Adriatic sea and Dubrovnik Town. I also suggest for catching the sunsets, start the walk from Ploce Gate first and go anti-clockwise.Last ticket sales for access is 6.30pm and the guy in tue booth suggests it is about an hours walk. This would be true if you walked at pace and didn’t stop to enjoy the views but I’d recommend allowing 2 hours minimum. The gates also start to get locked at 7pm however, we stayed at one of the bars on the South West of the walls until gone 7.30pm and still managed to get out albeit not by the official entrance. As noted, around the walls there are some basic opportunities to buy a drink however Caffe Bar Sv. Petar for me is the best by far. Perfectly placed towards the end of the walk and timing wise for the most amazing sunsets during September. All in all the top of the walls need to be experienced and will prove to be one of the best 2 kilometre walks you will ever do.
MoreWorth every penny. We bought the City Pass (from the tourist office outside the bus stopwhich was worth doing, especially as it provided free public transport. The views of the Old Town, coastline and fortifications themselves are fantastic. There are a few cafes to stop at on the way round and I would recommend going outside peak hours.
MoreA little overpriced but definitely worth it!
Nice walk with amazing views but really overpriced. Its 250kn, around 35 € per person. The "student" price is 100kn (about 13€but most students cards dont get accepted (check on the website). However if youre a European citizen aged up to 30 years old you can get a European Youth Card and get the discount (you should do it in advance as it may take some time depending on you country)!
MoreStunning views. Has to be the number one thing to do Whilst in the old town
Amazing views but crazy overpriced 250kn it’s far away from a fair price
The most amazing views of the city. We went in the evening around 6pm
It worth the price (35€). Like Eiffel tower in Paris, you must go.The view of the city is breathtaking. It seems like to be back in mediaeval time
MoreThe ticket costs 250 kuna per person and it includes the walk on the walls and entrance to Fort Lovrjenac. On the walls theres a one way walk (I started from Pile Gate and from there it is mandatory to walk towards the sea, so the walk will end with Minceta Tower). The walls are uninterrupted. There are 3 points where you can exit the walk (Pile, Ploce and Fort Jean). If you decide to get off the walls take into consideration that you cannot enter again with the same ticket. Along the way there are some bars with refreshments, a public toilet and many beautiful views. You can get a free brochure from the ticket office that presents some important sights along the way. The walk is really nice and it takes about 2 hours to complete the walk. It is expensive but I think that its worth it.
More1 star is not for how beautiful and breathtaking it is because it definitely is. 1 star is for the extortionate price €35?? For this you can visit the Acropolis in Athens 2x and now they separate the Lovrjenac fortress that used to be included when it was still "only" €30, ridiculous pricing and greed will force tourists to Montenegro and Albania soon enough and we will wonder and complain about where all the money went. Sram te bilo.
MoreA very hot walk but a must if you are able. There a places to stop for drinks and snacks along the way however we decided to continue as we were keen to get out of the heat. It took us just under an hour to complete and we did check out the viewing areas around.
MoreDefinitely do not miss the walls when you visit Dubrovnik, we "visited" Dubrovnik by foot, with drone, through the viewpoint...but the most stunning view you can get is when you are on these walls, best experience ever!
MoreIts expensive (250 Kuna). You get to walk on the city walls with a great view over Dubvronik. At the entrance it was written that you cant go for a second round. The walk takes a bit more than an hour. During high season it gets very hot and there is not much shade. Bring some water. Must be very nice during spring and autumn.
MoreFantastic experience such a hidden gem. Was a random stop on a cruse and was the pest in my opinion.
MoreAmazing views over the city, well maintained medieval walls. The price of 250 HRK per person is too high but if you buy the Dubrovnik Pass, its already included and also some other nice museums and you also get a few free bus tickets, so therefore a good deal.During the midday hours it can be very hot under the sun but there are some bastions and bars with sun umbrellas where you can hide from the sun for a few minutes during the visit. Also the Maritime Museum is located there where you can also have a break from the sun. Some toilets and some places to buy drinks are also available on the walls (but quite overpriced and some of them dont accept card payments).
MoreThe walls are honestly amazing and impressive. You have a wonderful view over the city, the sea and the islands close by.Remember there will be no shade and the sun will be burning brutally already at 8 am (we went in late june). Still, be early to avoid the crowds and the heat of the afternoon, or try in the evening. It took us around 90 mins for the whole way round.Paying 250 Kuna is paying for Dubrovnik. If you fancy museums, you might get the Dubrovnik Card for the same price. The museums included are small, but quite nice. When using the digital verison you need to go to the City Wall ticket office near Pile Gate to get an paper ticket as they are not prepared to scan the qr code... be patient, people in the museums also need time to get to know that grand new technology...Also, keep in mind that there is no information along the wall, so go for a Tour Guide App or something similar before entering. When visiting the walls, your (paper)ticket is also valid for Lovrijenac Fort, so keep it safe!
MoreGreat way to see the old town. But expect to get sweaty.Go early in the day I would.
MoreWhen I got there I showed them my student identity card. Would have paid 100 Kuna instead of 250. They told me it wasn‘t valid. He didn‘t even look at it. Told me just 3 types of identity cards are valid. Such a scam. I‘m student since 2019 at the university , showed a valid identity card and was refused. Also totally overpriced. Still going to show you some pretty pictures :-)
MoreThis is a wonderful experience which provides exercise (lots of steps and stairsand beautiful views. Great photo opportunities! It’s only $35 per person and is well worth it since you have come this far!
MoreGreat views! Do not miss it! Also don’t forget to bring water as it is an hour walk.
MoreIt’s literally the only attraction worth paying for in my view, though the entry fee is unjustifiably high. 250kn for adults and 100kn for kids or students. Euros not accepted.Walking around the walls will take about 2.5 hours if you take it easy and stop for pictures along the way. There are two places where you can have coffee on the way. Going early morning or late afternoon is recommended, to avoid the scorching heat and strong sun.Wonderful views of the city from above, if you come to Dubrovnik and don’t visit the walls it’s half the job done.
MoreAmazing views of the city. Entry fee is 250 kuna on it’s own. Would recommend getting Dubrovnik city day pass for 250 kuna instead that includes city walls and entry to multiple other attractions like Lovrijenac Fortress that would cost 100 kuna if bought separately. There are many cafes and toilet facilities on the wall. We covered the wall in 2 hours, but I would recommend starting early in the day as it got really busy and crowded around 11am.
MoreIn my opinion it was every cent worse (1 x adult ticket costs 35€), because the view from each point of the old city wall was amazing and wonderful! Stairs are in a very good condition and you always have the possibility to rest for a while and enjoy the fabulous buildings and old architecture as well as the sea 🌊!
MoreThe walls are a must do it you are visiting Dubrovnik. It takes about 1.5-2.5 hours to complete as per your place. The views are just fantastic.Wear comfortable shoes. There are a few places to grab something to eat and drink. The wall ticket also gives access to Fort Lorijenac for a duration of 3 days so dont throw it away. The ticket costs 250 HRK.Came to know later that the Dubrovnik card costs 250 HRK and it covers the wall and a bunch of other places so please do check that out first.Best to do first thing in the morning to avoid crowds. Sunset is also a good time for great views
MoreThe walls and the city is beautiful and worth the ticket. Although the heights of the wall is too low and not safe.
MoreStunning 360 views!! This is a Must Do in Dubrovnik but also if coming to Croatia.Bring water but there are also little shops and cafes on the walls if needed.
MoreThe walls are beautiful but it costs about 70€ for two people to walk them. Which in my opinion is a little too much.
MorePurchased tickets at the Pile gate entrance to the walls.Great views over all the city. Several forts along the walls. But not really any information signs about the history. Two bars on the western side which sold drinks and had toilets but no where to eat. Took about two hours to walk around. You cant get on and off the walls.
MoreStunning! Be there in April, no tourists but sun will shine for you.
The must do thing when you are in Dubrovnik. On a good day you can see for miles from the top of the walls and it is probably the best place to view the old city buildings from. There are really nice views of Fort Lovrijenac from the walls and you can spot lots of Game of Thrones filming locations from them. Highly recommended and dont forget that the price includes a visit to Lovrijenac as well.
MoreGreat view! Dont miss it. Buy the Dubrovnik card though on internet and get it from the tourist office.
MoreThis is what you really should do when you visit Dubrovnik. The entrance fee is not cheap yet its worth to try and walk on the walls. You will see the beautiful old town from the above. Its nice to check someone living there.lol its better to visit here in the early morning.
MoreA must-do! I went end of September so it wasn’t busy at all up there. May be too crowded during high season though. You get tons of different perspectives of the old town and its surroundings; it’s really lovely. There are about 3 exit points if you don’t want to do the whole thing which takes about an hour to complete.
MoreExpansive but a must to do !!The walk is really nice, but better to early I the morning to avoid the heat !
MoreExpensive to get in, but I’m happy to inject some money in this town hit hard by Covid. Walls mostly empty as the tourists have not emerged yet. It’s a “must do” when you’ve come this far!
MoreLovely place to visit. Its a great place to view the Dubrovnik Old Town and soak up all the culture and history of the Old Town. The walks have very little shade! You should be aware of this when visiting on hot days. Make sure you stay stocked up with plenty of water, suncream and maybe a hat or fan too.You can come off the walls and pop back on with your ticket if you need to step off for a break or to refill your water in the fountains dotted around.Well worth a visit and a full loop of the beautiful walls.
MoreSelf quarantine at home due to COVID 19 outbreak. Remember the good old days self driving tour at Dubrovnik old town. Every single step, every since photo of the old town brought back all wonderful memories touring this magnificent & fabulous old town with numerous histories and cultures. Hope to revisit it soon!
MoreYou get some amazing views from above the walls. The entrance is 27€ which is comparatively high. We kept our car in a parking nearby and the charge is 22€!!!! It is a total ripoff from tourists.
