Iโ€™m not sure about the castle itself, because we wandered in after dark, but the garden was deserted and beautiful, glistening in the rain that passed earlier. Then we found our way to the Chester Beatty Museum and perused some religious art exhibits until it closed at 20:00. Quiet, quirky, and the peerage t way to wind down an evening in Dublin.

Nice castle. Pleasant to walk through. Has bathrooms. There is art on display. The rooms are well curated. The self guided tour goes through past history and history in the making.

Gorgeous exterior and interior! It was very interesting to walk inside and listen to the tour. So much history! I only wish the tour had been a little longer. Overall it was a nice experience.

Cool place, visited late afternoon on a Sunday and it was very quiet, had entire rooms to myself which was pretty sweet. Favorite part was probably the beautiful paintings in each room.

Very elegant place. They dont have too many things and any guide to explain a little bit.I didnt knew about the frescoes on the ceiling. Its amazing. They also care about the tourists heavy baggage. We must leave it in a locker.

The castle is small compared to some of the others in the area. It has a bit of art (but not a lot), it has a bit of history, looks relatively nice. We were in and out in about 30 minutes. I think perhaps a guided tour would have made it more interesting.

Dublin Castle was once centre of British rule in Ireland. It has seen 1000 years of history from British rule to Irish independence. Many important ceremonies of Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช government still take place in Dublin castle even as on date. The castle has many decorated halls with different paintings, statues, flags state of the art maharaja style furniture etc. The castle has paid entry ticket ๐ŸŽŸ which can Pre booked online or can be purchased on the spot.Interesting place for the history lovers.

Not exactly a "castle" anymore...it is considered more a palace but there are remnants of the "castle" you can see if you buy the guided tour portion. Lots to see even if you dont opt for the guided tour...quite a history! Dont be afraid to walk outside around the grounds and through the memorial garden. Book your ticket online at the time you want to arrive then check in upon arrival if you want a guided tour ticket and theyll upgrade it for a small fee. Tours were every hour but did sell out.

A beautiful building showcasing where the viceroy of Ireland had lived until Ireland received its independence. We decided to embark on the self-guided tour and they did provide a very comprehensive booklet filled with information about each room and the different events and purposes for each one.It is quite a lovely castle, but unfortunately, only a few rooms are open and one cant go into the church/tower without going on a guided tour. There are also a lot of paintings and artwork that dont have signs and are not well-explained. More information would have been nice to have under/near some of these as well. There is still a lot one can see with opulent rooms, a throne, and beautiful halls

If youre here to see a castle, youll be disappointed. If youre here to see art work and learn about history, youll see some. Overall, I wouldnt recommend spending your time inside. The courtyard is worth checking out. Thats it.

Interesting place. Unfortunately was under construction but still interesting place. Worth the detour I would say. Not worth a dedicated trip just for this place though. Just explore the surrounding area and see for yourself. Its very interesting. Im into history a lot, so. I always like these kind of places. Think twice if you re not into old buildings.

I took the guided tour because I could visit the cellar and Chapel that way. It was wonderful. The guide (Thursday 25/08/2022, 12:00h tourspoke passionately about Dublin Castle as well as Ireland itself. The inside of the Apartments is stunning

Getting entry to Dublin Castle is not too pricey. Its got lots of beautiful grand scale oil paintings on display and lots of interesting preserved antiques set up to admire. However, there are no staff on the floor anywhere to explain the historical significance of any of the people in the pictures... or answer your questions. So, lacking this... its really just a castle full of "stuff". Part of the magic for me is learning about the lives of past nobility and the stories behind the faces. This castle missed that mark. It just lacked the "ooooh" factor.

We enjoyed a walk round the castle. We thought it was reasonably priced and there were some interesting pieces to read and view in the castle. Theres also secure storage for your bags while you walk around and guided tours are available for โ‚ฌ12. We went self guided for โ‚ฌ8.

A bit disappointed with this castle ๐ŸฐIve been to so many that this one looks bland in comparison. The price is quite expensive for a self guided tour for such a small castle. There is close to no sign explaining the paintings, we dont know who painted them, when it was painted and where it is from. Moreover the lighting could use some serious work, you cannot even take a proper look at a lot of those painting because the light is blasting onto them. The rooms explanations are a bit short. I dont feel like I learn a lot during the visit. The staff wasnt nice at all compared to the other places Ive visited in Dublin so far.On the bright side, the buffet hall looks incredible! I really liked it. I also enjoyed one of the last room with the sculptures looking alike paintings! If you have spare time, spare money, and its raining outside go check it out. Otherwise I wouldnt bother putting it on my bucket list. Go the Chester Library instead, the staff is great there and the collection is pretty damn cool ๐Ÿ˜œ

A residence from the outside a bit poor while from the inside quite regal and elegant. I found it a bit small but it still had its effect because every corner was cared for by golden finishes, paintings, slightly dark and opaque baroque mirrors, chandeliers, armchairs and the beauty of the past in every room. . My favorite was the last one in which there were paintings on the ceiling. Really very refined

Its a pretty castle to visit. Nothing too big or prestigious, but then again its not that expensive either. Getting a tour is recommended over the audio tour, because it allows you to visit the older parts of the castle as well as the chapel.

Although it is recommended to spend minimum of 30 minutes here and they do offer self walking tours- please do yourself a favor and walk through it with a tour guide- I wish I would. I walked through it with a broucher and I had no clue about so many things, I really wish Id know the story behind all the paintings ( especially the ones that look like masonryand other historical objects there. But if you didnt get to catch the tour- its still a very delightful walk through a castle and there are some posters here and there that give you some information.

When I got there the guided tours were sold out for the day. There is an audio tour that was pretty good. However the history is so awesome and well preserved it definitely deserves a 5โญ. The admission tickets were not to expensive and for sure worth it. If you are visiting Dublin, this is a definite historical must.

Although most of the interior of Dublin castle had been rebuilt, It is still a place where you can learn a lot of Irish history. The St. Patrick Hall is really beautiful. There was some exhibition related to the Great Irish Famine held on-site. You need to lock all your bag and luggage before the visit and lockers are provided.

This is not a castle-castle, so dont go here expecting to see a standard, medieval castle. This was well explained by our tour guide with lots of information about the Irish history of this place with the Normans and vikings building these kind of castles in Ireland. Really interesting and I would therefore recommend to book the tour guide as you get to see the old, medieval parts and walls of this Castle that are nowadays hidden from the big audience, behind the door with the sign about Bram Stoker who wrote Dracula. All this and more is explained and shown during this interesting tour!

Had a wonderful, though tiring, walking tour of Dublin. When arriving at Dublin Castle we came into the courtyard, not seeing anything apparently castleish. We didnt discover the castle turrets or exterior features until exiting the courtyard and trying to find the way out of the area. The caller ID incorporated into its modern surroundings which makes it appear as a facade. I have instead posted a few of the nearby churches and River scene.

Beautiful castle and lots of history. Our guide was not very enthusiastic though. And the day we went she couldnt get into the church since she had the wrong key, which was disappointing. I would personally skip the guided tour and just do the main house on your own.We went on a Monday morning and there were very few people there so it was perfect for photos outside.

Lovely exhibition of paintings and furniture from around the 1900s . Self-guided tour is cheaper than guided tour. It is fine so far , but I missed that the different rooms were either signed or the audio guide would have had better directions so you can make sure youre in the right room before the next audio plays.Other than that, its the right choice if the weather is bad and youre interested in Irish history and art๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ’š

A great place to visit ! Unfortunately we were not able to see the medieval area because an official even was happening but the Chapel and the vestiges of the Castle were great! It is amazing how it is protected and well organized. The must is the organ in the Chapel, such a beautiful piece of art. Highly recommended!

I have been on a castle trail in Scotland and compared to that, this isnโ€™t great. But I guess for what it is, itโ€™s worth the visit. The interior is pretty grand with intrinsic architectural detailing, multiple paintings, and fine visual treat. It might not take more than an hour totally to go in and out of the castle if you are of the tendency to read and enjoy every single display. It is in the heart of Dublin City and there is an entry fee. If you are a student, it will cost you โ‚ฌ6, otherwise itโ€™sโ‚ฌ8 for an adult.

As a Dub of over half a century, Im ashamed to say Ive only visited Dublin Castle as a child, so in I went on day that I could stroll around (my life responsibilities having grownand I inhaled our heritage. I adored the life-size photos of our Irish men and women who fought for our independence state.

Not sure if this was a seasonal thing, but I got in for free. The tour was specifically for The State Apartments and everything was decorated for Christmas. So it was very festive. There was also a metalsmithing exhibit so that was fascinating. The information on the different president of Ireland was informative as well. Since it was free, the experience was great.
