Dragon Gate - Chinese restaurant in Burien, United States
Greg is the best Bartender ever!
This is not a bustling place full of people🤔 which is why i liked the service😉.this lil wonderful woman , who is attentive and funny if u are nice , "so please show her the upmost respect"..the food is great and in abundance.👍there are things to look at and the placemats have the chinese calendar on them iam The Dragon which is so cool!!😎.you will have left overs and might i say the Almond chicken, and sweat and sour is good. I loved all the rice dishes and the tea is on point hand made by the lil ole Lady..😉watch your spead heading to des moines and parking but enjoy this place i sure do!!😋i go there more than other places
The lady at the front counter is very rude,I will not be going back, the food was just ok,I ordered Shrimp fried rice and garlic wings,I wanted the rice without the eggs, because Im allergic, the lady was upset about,it was no other customers st that time,,need better customer service skills
Good food
Gregs service and drinks are great in the bar.
I tried to dine here because I am from out of town and didn’t know better. The woman that answered the phone flat out refused to take my girlfriends takeout order. Thinking it could have been a language barrier, I called back on my phone and attempted to make a phone-in order but was also very RUDELY refused. Don’t even try with this place. Very rude staff that couldn’t care less about your experience there.
Decent food, a bit spendy, bartender was friendly. The hot mustard is legit.
Feels very hole in the wall, love how the bar seating is kept in a back room, excellent food
The old lady in the front is rude. An who ever the cook was burned my fried rice and theyre not bent the box for my fried potstickers so once I got them home they were just gummy.
The tea was just lukewarm and got cold fast. The food was okay, not the best I’ve had.
Good food, fair drinks and dive lounge. We like it
Quick and amazing food. Get a dish per person and share family-style
Greg Bonus runs the lounge and he is the very ideal of what a gracious host is. An example of accountability, integrity and honor and a true American! I will keep going back to the Dragon Gate
What a great location in the heart of downtown Des Moines, wonderful spot great service and the food was well prepared. Will be back soon!!
Food was fresh and well presented, fast service and huge portions.
I called to see what time they close and the lady said what time do you want to come I let her know I would like to order to pick up, she repeated her self and In the mist of me saying 5pm she said call back later bye and hung up. Wont be ordering from here! Could imagine what the food Taste like with that type of customer service!
This is a restaurant, bar that I have visited many times and never disappoints. Never buzy, which I cant understand. The food here is very good, a clean restaurant, and not over priced.
Great food and service! Back bar is a cool spot for cocktails.
The sad thing is but this place made the almond fried chicken exactly the way I like it except, I think they have pre cook the chicken before they battered and deep-fried it so that it was extremely dry and chewy. The same thing went for the prawns with Crispy walnuts. If these things were fresh and tender this would have been probably one of my old school Chinese places around town. Totally rude owner. Boot heel BBQ pork. Nope! This place makes almond fried chicken the style I like it however, it must be overcooked or pre-cooked and then cooked again because its incredibly chewy and stiff.I found the fried rice was way too salty and slathered in dark soy sauce. The sweet and sour was okay as where the fried prawns pretty typical for this style Chinese restaurant. The barbecue pork was hard as a boot heel and the wonton soup was near flavorless. The big turn off was the waitress and possible owner. She was incredibly rude and even hung up on me when I tried to call. She refused to bring us some of the things we wanted just because she didnt feel like doing it. It was strictly out of the Twilight Zone. The only time I would consider going back if they have a good laugh with friends. Other than that Ill be looking elsewhere
Bartender Greg is the saving grace.Food was cold, a bit flavorless. The hot n sour soup tasted like sour soysauce, the mushrooms in the mushroom beef had no flavor, everything was fried and drenched in sauce. Ive watched enough Kitchen Nightmares to know that when the food comes out that fast, it was pre-cooked & then microwaved. Good atmosphere though and great bar. Again Greg is like a 6 star server and bartender! He did everything he could to appease my picky palate :)
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Me and my wife placed an order over the phone and it was like the lady was selling me a car. She said I was getting the best price and nobody could beat hers. She said to come down in whenever that the food would be ready. We showed up 30 mins to pick it up and she said that we took too long and that she never even made it. It was literally vegetable fried rice, white rice, and broccoli garlic. Don’t come here.
I just tried calling and the first time I asked what their hours are on Sunday and she hung up on me. I thought it was a mistake so I called back and there was no answer. I called again and when she answered I asked again and she said "why you keep asking me that, if you want to know look on internet" and she hung up on me again. I used to go to this restaurant before covid but I wont be going back. VERY RUDE!!!
Went in on a quiet Saturday night. Good service and good food. I got the spicy braised chicken house special which was delicious.
Best chinese we have had in a long time.Fast, friendly, amazingly great prices. The food is always terrific.Great atmosphere.
I got very sick from eating this food and my physician said the meat had spoiled but they served it anyway.Ren, the owner of the Dragon Gate makes some people enter the premesis by the back door. Always white males. There aeeew
Very good portions awesome price and really polite service the lady that runs its very sweet they have fans going to keep it cool inside
April 30th 2021 the day WA was officially reopened after covid shut downs. We should of been smart and left. Table and salt were sticky and not wiped down well. Our main issue was food and service. We ordered the A3 and fried rice was dry, the prawns were tough, and the almond fried chicken was really dry. So first I asked for tartar sauce for the prawns, they dont have it. Second I asked for some additional gravy for almond fried chicken, it was likie I was asking for gold. Third was the almond fried chicken. It was so dry it was difficult to cut. I flagged her down to politely let her know, she was defensive and said "In her restaurant thats how they serve it" I explained again and showed her how difficult it was to cut, she just walked away. We were also very disappointed in the quantity of the chicken, it was less then half with so much cabbage underneath. Fourth we asked for tea that came with our dinner. The explanation was because of covid she was unable to make tea, but yet she can walk around with a pitcher of water. She did not get that state was reopened etc. Last was service. We watched as a couple came in and then promptly left after talking with her. She was so difficult at every turn, it really made the experience sour!Im all for supporting restaurants, especially after the last 18 months of covid shut downs. I will be supporting any place but the Dragon Gate for now on.
The lady was so rude right from the beginning when we first got there.. My boyfriend has a partial plate, which he has to take out to eat. He wraps it in a napkin.. Apparently, he left the partial plate in the napkin. When we called, 4 times, she hung up on us. She said we could come and look through the trash, which we would have dune but we live clear down in Tumwater. She refused to put on some gloves and look for us. We called a couple hours after we left as soon as we realized they were gone. I tried to ask her to take my phone number and look for us when she wasnt busy. She just hung up on me.
Just check my visa bill. Watch these guys last two orders on statement overcharged by 2 to 3 dollars. WOW food isnt that good. And the front girl very rude. But check your bills. They use funny math. Should call
This restaurant is without a doubt a hidden gem. Their food quality is excellent and I highly recommend coming here if youre in the mood for good Chinese.
The best ginger beef outside of China town..... All the food was piping hot !!!! But upon being presented with our check we were informed we had ordered to many "special items" which caused the other two tables to have to wait for their orders... This will have a major impact on our decision on returning here.... You should be able to order what you want and not have a guilt trip put upon you....After two years, my wife and I decided to give this place another try. Huge mistake. As we were being sat the same grouchy lady that told us not to order so many single dishes the last time we ate here insulted my hair. I am an American Indian man and wear my hair long and in a braid. She laughed at me and said my hair looks funny in a ponytail. We wont ever be back.Like an elder once told me," Dont point your finger at anyone because theres always four pointing back at you"Take a look in the mirror lady, you have absolutely no room to laugh at anyone 😳
The lady who always works here is the sweetest old lady iv ever had the pleasure of meeting this place has it all amazing food decent prices large portions and awesome staff!! Not to mention theres a bar attached lol 😁
Been a patron for over 10 yrs. The menu is diverse and quality and quantity of food is quite good. If you leave hungary, its your own fault...be sure to stop by the lounge and imbibe your favorite libation..
We eat here 3 or 4 times a month, Absolutly the best hidden secret in Des Moines, honestly the Chinese Cuisine here is Excellent, ive enjoyed so many dishes and all of them 5 star.
Great food and excellent service. We love the food and menu selections. The staff is great and always double checks our take out order to ensure all of our selections have been packed. (Which is very important when ordering take out.We are new to the area and are so happy to have found this place.
So glad they survived! Quirky, old school Chinese Restaurant. Food is good. Drinks are good. Fast, courteous service (but dont get on the lady owners wrong side...lol, she bites back. But tonight, 1st time back after the closer, she was as sweet as could be, Ive missed that.
I go here quite a bit when was dine in. I decided to get some take out and I ordered 2 orders of Family A3 . I received 1 order only charged for 2. My husband picked up and he dont speak English as well plus the owner does either. Which is understandable. I called and got yelled at and was told was 2 orders and it wasnt. Each order is $13.95 got charged .$34.97. Disappointed big time cuz I travel so far to pick up. Really ruined our dinner.
I absolutely love this place. The food is great and very well priced. The lady has attitude but its literally the reason ill be going back. She makes me smile. Its like being at home. Cant wait for the dine in option to be available again.
For the most part the food is pretty good. To my surprise the almond fried chicken had a touch of gravy on the meat in the to go container. II’ve been ordering and eating there for over 15 years. When I went to put gravy on my almond fried chicken there was none in the box.I ordered A3 which I had to order two because it was a family meal. Well when packaged for two there were only 5 prawns so should I have received only four prawns or 6?When I called to say I didn’t receive the gravy for the almond fried chicken she made excuses for the kitchen cook. No remedy. Then she had to get off the phone. This restaurant has some amazing food but the hiccups are low key acknowledged or what can we do better.I will continue going back hoping they will not miss the gravy, and improve on their to go orders. She was very nice and thankful for my order that I picked up.
I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. The food, service and cost has always been fabulous. I love the atmosphere and special attention we get every time we come in. Im headed to AZ for good and I made sure to stop in before my final goodbye. Totally worth it in my opinion.
The food was flavorful and delicious. Excellent service.Have been driving pass it for yrs and decided to stop for there for lunch, for the first time yesterday. Order the Mongolian beef with bbq fried rice. Almond fried chicken and sweet n sour chicken. Definitely planning to go back to order it again. And also try the other options on the menu. Our server was such a sweet heart. She was very attentive.
First time eating out in Washington. Was horrible. They mixed the egg flower and Wong ton soups and tried to pass it off as War Wong ton soup. So Salty....Grease Noodles and the BBQ Pork was cold and had no flavor at all.Although........They Had a Awesome Blues Band playing and Ben on the harmonica is the bees knees. And they have a Bartender that makes Great Drinks. Not watered Down at all.But will NEVER eat at the Dragon Gate Again.....SO NEVER....Had to give them a star to post review. But dont think they deserve that....And when i confronted the owner about how bad the food was.His reply was i should have came earlier, as if the food would have magically been better...
My family visited this restaurant during vacation in the area. The waitress was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. My father tried to order for my younger brother and she cut him off and demanded my brother order for himself (weird). When he tried to order a combination meal, that was on option on the menu, she said he couldnt order that and they had order the items individually, which is double if not triple the cost. And for the record, it was after 3pm and the combination dinners which they tried to order, should have been available. The worst service they have ever experienced. We will NEVER go back again and would NOT recommend.
Authentic Chinese food quick service with a bar area in the back. The meals are reasonably priced and generous. You can be sure to have spicy and hot meal everytime.
The Orange Beef used real orange peel which elevated the dish to a new level. The food was great but the service was even better. If youre trying to save money, make sure you get there before 9pm to take advantage of the family meal deal.
We sat in the bar on a Tuesday evening and there were only a few other people there. The bartender was attentive and very friendly and helpful. He did say it gets pretty packed on the weekends. The service was amazing from him, the space was clean and tidy. We ordered orange chicken and crab rangoons and they were both impeccably tasty and fast to come out. Had a super wonderful time. I will definitely be back!
We had the Vegetable Egg Food Young and some other vegetarian dish, sorry I dont remember what it was called. They were both very good and the portions were very large. It was clear that each dish was intended to be shared. Awesome service and a nice atmosphere that was casual but clean. I intend to be back. 😃.
The menu online is not specific as far as family and individual dinners so I called for clarification and planned to order dinner. The first thing she told me was I can just come down there, she is too busy to talk. I’ve grown up in Des Moines so I understand our restaurants are mostly family owned, but she wasn’t giving me the time of day, when I am a customer and hadn’t even asked my question that was about 2 seconds long. I have never felt so disgusted by the disrespect I received. My business will stay with Mandarin Kitchen. They are nothing but amazing.
I have been stopping in at the little lounge in the back this past year and each visit has been fun. The locals are friendly and sociable. The bartender is attentive to all his customers with great interaction. My sons favorite place to eat is Panda Express and when he tried this restaurant hes started to ask to get food at Dragon Gate. We easy there one a week he picks up good on his way home from school. Portions are good sized and process are great.
We have discovered this place recently and have been coming for a couple of months every week or so, both eat in and take out. Really excellent American Chinese food, fresh and tasty at reasonable prices. Bar in the back is always busy but we are just here to eat so stay in the dining room. Nice portions, enough for leftovers the next day. Very nice owner lady. Get to know her and this place and you wont be disappointed!
