Dozo Izakaya Bar - Izakaya restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan
Had my birthday party here upstairs in a private room. Great food and drinks although sometimes you need to wait for service but still a great place. Taiko drum performances are authentic and add a great addition.
More like a 3.8 than a 4.*The environment was very interesting, interesting decoration, cool drum show (although could be too loud for some), I personally liked the music being played, the furniture was ok although the distance between seats makes conversation difficult so everyone is sort of screaming creating a loud atmosphere.*The drinks tasted quite good to be honest, at least the ones I had.*The food was my biggest disappointment, it looks really good on the photos and most reviews mention how good it is. I personally found it mediocre. None of the dishes I had were memorable, they didnt taste bad but for what you are paying I expected something tastier. As bar food is good, I guess the more you drink the better they would taste.*The service was spotty, drinks took a long time to come, food came fast, dessert came slow. I guess they are understaff but they do a good job with what they have.*Price - Performance: You are paying for the space and the environment so the food reflects a markup. I think prices are reasonable, the problem is that food is not memorable so you could just take your money somewhere else that taste better. This is a place that perhaps works best with a group of friends (the larger the betterrather than for couples, a place you go celebrate a birthday, drink and share lots of different dishes that will likely taste better the more you have drunk. Worth a visit, but personally I wouldnt visit again.
Food is ok for Group gathering, but no DATE here!!!I love DOZO a lot before, but NOT NOW, lately had a bad experience when went there with my husband to celebrate my birthday. I like the food, but no like the service there, the waitress show a lot passionate to my husband, and tough his arm, she interupted our conversation to talk to him in Chinese even he cannot understand any Chinese and asked him to eat more several times. If you want to show your passionate, you need to ask not only him, but me, too, and come on Its my Bday, you know it and delivered the desert. DOZO, go to check the camera on March 5, after 10pm ..thats a bad memory I had lately in DOZO! Keep 2 stars for the food.
The food here is amazing and there is a large drinks selection too.The location is great and restaurant is stunning.Great drum and flute show on Saturdays
Great food and great atmosphere. Its an open environment, so it gets a bit loud. But thats where the excitement is. Suggest to make a reservation if youll be coming as a group.
Surprised by how cool the interior is. Most of the food was impressive, we came here to celebrate birthday, staffs are really helpful and giving us best service👍🏼
Really be impressed by the interior design and nightclub atmosphere. Every cuisines also are so good, we come here to celebrate birthday for my friend, the restaurant treat us snakes for free, very like it.We are also so happy that here provide a variety of alcohol choices. At 8pm every weekend have drum performance, very special experience.Overall, we have a very satisfied and happy night here.
Food is delicious, good for friends to meet up. But a bit noisy you have to speak louder.
Amazing environment and show (on Fri & Sat night), creative & high quality cocktails and food.
Great atmosphere and good food. Plenty of options and none will disappoint you. Suitable for group dinner. Suggest to make reservations in advance.
The staff was very pleasant and provided good service. They provided good recommendations on what to ordee. The sushi and sashimi is very fresh. Roasted porl is excellent, crispy yet slightly fatty. The ramen was good and tasty. There are Japanese drum performances. Alcohol selection was good
Overall experience was disappointing. Service was poor, as we have to raise our hand a few times to get their attention.Food was normal, we had sukiyaki, egg was part of the meal, but the staff forget to serve. The wine glass that was served, were all stain with lip stick stained. We paid for corkage charge, NT 600 per bottle of wine, the only service we had was the open the wine of us, no initiative to pour the wines for us. We paid corkage for 3 bottles of wines @ NT 1800.We sat at a long table, but one side of the table was pretty dark. Lightning’s need to be adjust.Would not patronize again.
I have been here at least five times and havent been disappointed once. The atmosphere is amazing. The drinks and the food is great but could be considered a little expensive compared to other restaurants in Taiwan. If you are lucky you could experience an impressive drum show while wisiting Dozo (I have seen it twice during my five visits)
It has a great atmosphere with comforting light and a very pleasent table arrangement. Outstanding for me was the drum show that not only gives a platform to this rare art form but also adds up to the overall dining experience in a non-annoying way. The dishes are good, diverse in taste.
there was a spider fell from the celling and we called the waitress. After she asked someone who was responsible for the cashier, they told us the dessert (160NTDwas for free due to the accident. We need to oder dishes over 2000 NTD because we bought 2000 coupon, so we thought the compensation was useless. The thing was that my gf had no appetite after the spider thing, and we still need to oder more dishes...... Because there is no one apologized for the spider, I finally complained to the cashier and he just told me "so u got dessert for free".1. No one apologized for this, explained the reason.2. No one ask us whether we were satisfied with the respond. And I think the respond was disappointed from the dessert and the reaction from the staff.btw one star is for the food, not for the service
High-end Japanese izakaya bar with a wide range of in-house cocktails, more niche sake brands, and very attentive staff keen on keeping things flowing. The dining area is spacious and luxuriously decorated, and the food is - needless to say - very good. Highly recommended for a visit if you are willing to part with some cash as the experience is worth it.
I was really intrigued by this place. The outside looks quite fancy, attractive, shiny and upscale. We went there a sundays holiday.Chair are not comfy at all. The floor was really dirty and sticky, toilet wasnt clean and smelly. The japanese food is just average and quite pricey for what it is, Id have expected a lot better. However there seem to have some drum shows sometimes (unfortunately not when I was there), and the music make the atmosphere perfect for pre-party? Ill come here with a group of friends to test that.
This a mass market student japs izakaya bar standard, I will b happy to come here if I’m a student. But if u expect something medium to higher kind of izakaya bar, this is not the place for u. This restuarant uses mass market wasabi which doesn’t give the u flavour of wasabi at all. But the ambience is quite cool.
Very trendy environment. Fair food quality. Reasonable prices. Have drum performance every night at 8pm. Wide choices of alcoholic drinks
I love the vibe here, the Japanese decoration, the music, and they have Japanese Taiko show! Very entertaining!I won’t say that they got the best Food in town, but the vibe definitely added extra value for the night!I had my birthday party here, booked 2 tables and they offered us 4L of beer! If you get around 12 people, they also have a glass VIP room!Reasonable pricing, entertaining, yum, good service and again ... the vibe
A great place. You can tell because some staff have been around for a long time. Davi has been there 10 years and take great care of me. Tonight, I took my family and they were really impressed by his professionalism and knowledge.
Good food, reasonable prices, service could be faster and more accurate.
High quality of cushion cuisine. Cocktails are amazing.
one of the best japanese food resto at taipei, but the seat is not comfortable
Delicious food. Good place for group dinner. $600 per person. Good atmosphere. Recommend salmon & beef sushi.
The deco and food is really nice here. We booked a VIP private room which has a good view of the restaurant and drum show. We enjoyed ourselves very much. Unfortunately, our butler/ waiter was not attentive at all. That was not it. He had this sour face all night, didnt even crack a fake smile. We rather have no one there until we push the service bell. Need more staff training
I think for pure food aspect... there are many more better restaraunts even in small alleys that can do better Japanese grill or fried food than Dozo. But drinks and atmosphere is nice, overall, still a nice place, but it’s aging interior needs a renovation.
The first thing that will strike you walking into this restaurant is the decor, beatufilly appointed, modern, and yet classically chic. The food is superb and the available selections are endless. Sashimi is fresh and high quality. Wait staff is friendly which adds to the great vibe of the atmosphere.Im told there are live performances with traditional drums, however, I did not get to experience that on this particular visit.
Nice atmosphere, you can get a private room to host your party. Food is delicious and well priced.
Fancy japanese cuisine with a creative twist. Great atmosphere and decor. Good drinks to go with the amazing food. A bit pricey but worth coming. They have taiko performances sometimes. I think the steak was not worth getting it wasn’t that special.
I thought this might be the right place for Valentines Day. Upon entering, i noticed that there were lots of tables but not enough wait staff. So this slowed things down. We ordered from a wide selection of food, although we thought the menu was a little large. Plate after plate arrived at the table. On the plate it looked amazing. As its Japanese Infusion, I expected amazing flavors. The food wasnt terrible, but it didnt match the atmosphere they have created. The food was reasonably priced, $2300 NTD ($85 USD).
Specially place for friends get together here, nice beers and environment for audience but not kids, they have many special different tastes hand make beers, all of them are good, the dark beer was the best I promoted.Foods were also good, BBQ and hot ulong noodle spot but no soup, clamp soup is the best soup here! One thing remind that the food up speed was not good, you may need to way about 20 minutes for one food which you ordered, that mean better you order all the foods you want at one time, otherwise you have to wait for a while, even drinks, this was my experienced here at beginning of 2018.
Super food quality. Upscale setting. Great drummer performance too. Highly recommend for a eveing of nice dinning
Superior food, super ambience, dont order the bacon wrapped uni and definitely do the pancake dessert... a bit slow on service though
Very unique food with lots cocktails selection!
Great atmosphere and staff. Surprisingly good food and cocktails.
This restaurant showcases a diverse and mouthwatering menu. The sweltering summer heat of Taipei is emphasized under the low-hanging lights and the air conditioning could barely be felt. The service was also unpredictably slow. Despite its facade as some sort of quasi-pub, this restaurant boats a light and friendly atmosphere.
Been here on both Christmas and New Years Eve. The decor and ambiance are excellent. The food is also very good but expensive (as can be expected). Dozo is a bit too close to 101 so coming here NYE is not recommended... or be prepared to walk home.
We came here to celebrate Mothers Day, and it was absolutely amazing! We were served by a very experienced waitress (maybe the manager?who gave us a free mochi dessert. The food was amazing well definitely be back :)
Love the ambiance, dim like a bar, feels like classy dining place. The food is a modern take on Japanese food, and other than being very well presented, it offers a different mixture of tastes.Really quite interesting.
The place is very Japanese style and classic. I am surprised at the cocktail there the most. I ordered "magical", the cocktail, which looks like mojito, but tastes like milk!! Amazing!!!
Delicious food and an amazing crowd. Definitely a place to see Taiwans hip and trendy. Prices are quite good, I just noticed the bathrooms and the inside was not well maintained and starting to show signs of wear and tear. Have a great Japanese percussion show during dinner thats nice to watch and not too overwhelming.
Cool atmosphere, but the sashimi here its not fresh, at allAlways review your bill, already twice they put something we didnt order on the list. Not cool!! Not honest
Not really an izakaya, more like fine dining. The decor is modern and almost extravagant, rare in Taipei, but it seems dated and a little worn. This place could use a touch up. No complaints about any of the food we ordered, felt like we got what we paid for, and it wasnt cheap.
Theres definitely something special about this place... Its definitely not the food which should be avoided at all costs, nor the cocktails... But seems like a really fun place!!
Outstanding live Taiko experience is a plus to dine. Must make appointment to avoid wait.
The food is very good and not expensive. they have a cool drums show in the evening. The design of the place is just great. The restaurant is suitable so for couples so for friends. They have a very wide range of cocktails and dishes. Only problem, the service, even if its fast, they just dont look at the tables and you need to have their attenctions by calling...
At first glance, the atmosphere is really good. The design of the restaurant is really fancy and well done. As soon as you start ordering, youll realize their service isnt as good as their restaurant layout. First, none of them smiles. Second, they tend to be all blind (not being able to see your hands rasied in the air for help). Third, they have a horrible corresponding method. Theyve served a mug of beer with the portion of 7(beer: 3(bubbleratio; which really isnt my favorite. Ive asked them to take off the bubble for me in a nice tone, but the server gave me the attitude of (youre an idiotand went to tell the manager. Came back with the bubbles off but knocked the mug on my table. Gave us attitude again. We had to ask the manager to come and tell him about the waiters attitude. Next, the food are not even worth for the price. Some are good but some are just not worth it. Youd expect each dish to have its uniqueness in it, but there arent really any in a lot of dishes. So Id rather spend money at other restaurants than Dozo. Simply, not worth the time and expense.
The interior is beautiful, but the food is much less exciting. Food that was supposed to come out hot came out lukewarm or cool, some dishes were in sauces that felt really heavy and too sweet, but perhaps we ordered wrong. The bitter squash and okonmiyaki salad in particular were not great - sashimi and nigiri were good though, and their beer & sake selection is great.
More Americanized Japanese cuisine Id say, especially their rolls, but tasty nonetheless. Italian style udon was unexpectedly good. Their beer towers are great fun for group meals. Last but not least the shows offer an interesting break from the meal but if you become a frequent diner here the novelty wears off.
