Artifacts, models & photographs tracing the history of ships, maritime trade & fisheries in Douala.
Douala Maritime Museum in Foumban
Description
Interesting building with informative displays. A large portion of the display is related to the colonial era and the related struggle between locals and colonists - certainly very informative. The actual maritime stuff is fairly limited and should not take more than 10 minutes to peruse. At 3500XAF there are museums where you get better value for money- but not in Douala.
MoreThe place so coolThe staffs are very welcoming and the maritime artifacts are very useful and educative to Cameroonians and foreigners too
MoreThe museum is good, with a lot of interesting readings. The view of the city on the highest floor is also worth it. However, Id encourage the museum to carefully pick their guides and tourists not to take a guided tour ( even for free). Our guide was embarrassingly bad, he could not answer the simplest questions and was only there to read half the information and give false information (that one could just correctly get by reading). Very embarrassing to say the least.
MoreSorry , I didnt really get time to visit inside
Good
The second floor is the best. 1st floor has a bit too many things to read, blurry pics...but the 2nd floor showcases ship information and artifacts, the simulator is broken but a look at the captains deck is worth the trip. 2500 XAF entry.

It is a nice place to be. The building is shaped like a ship and it is a replica of a real ship with different floors. you find everything you in a ship there. It is worth a visit.
MoreI enjoyed my stay here, learnt so much and was wowed to see how an actual ship looks like from the simulation. This museum is a courtesy of the marine involvement of Cameroon. Located at an easily accessible spot too. This is a touristic site you should visit.Entery is not free
MoreMost electric things are out of order
Very nice museum to learn about the maritime history of Cameroon. 3 500 francs per person.
MoreI love this place! First travel in Douala and the visit of this museum was lit. I recommend it 5/5 because there you learn a lot about the country, the water people, and everything around the Wouri River and the sea. Go and visit, dont wait anymore! 😀

Nice experience, gives a good insight into Cameroons maritime and slave trade history. There also a 3D booth which provided some added fun. The overview from the tour guide was only in French though so I had to rely on a friend to translate everything. Id recommend they get an English-speaking guide for the non-francophone visitors
MoreThe 4D experience in the Storm room, is a nice find. Engaging the vistor further in the knot tying and simulator experiences makes it a definite worthwhile visit!
MoreCalm and inspiring place.
Good area
Relaxing place
Clean and good view from the second floor
This was a wonderful place to visit with all of the family from the U.S. and Canada. Highly recommended. There was something for all ages kids and grandparents alike.
MoreIf you at Douala and want to learn about its history then do visit this place.NOTE: This place have tickets ranging from 5000-7000 CFAIf you have time then try to watch the small movie they have on Douala and history. Movie is not that great but experience 👍 :)
