Dondero's in Lihue

Enjoyed our time here while on the island.

We decided to eat at Dondero’s despite of some bad reviews on google. Im so glad we did. It was the best decision we ever made. Food, service and ambience is of 5 star rating. The only bad thing of the entire night is that we were not staying at the resort.I was celebrating my 50th birthday and Christina the host made it a night to remember. We arrived 30 minutes early but it was no problem within minutes she seated us. She even recreated the menu by adding a birthday wish to the heading. I have never had a restaurant do that. The prices are reasonable for a 5 star restaurant and the cab we selected is a must with pasta. If i ever return to Kauai not only will i stay at the resort but will b sure to return to Dondero’s.Thank you Christina and the entire Dondero’s staff for an amazing night.

Our hotel concierge suggested Dondero’s for our 20th anniversary. She was spot on! From the moment they welcomed us, to the time we exited, we were treated like royalty. The food was extraordinary and the service by Juan was wonderful. Christen, the manager, even welcomed us and her and Juan made us feel like our important day was just as special to them as it was to us! What an AMAZING experience! We will absolutely recommend them to everyone we know!

Amazing service, great ambiance, and food to delight the taste buds. The margherita pizza was bursting with flavor (local cheese?). The cacio e pepe gnocchi was almost sublime! And of course, They have a above average wine selection. The mango sorbet was very very good (almost as good as Mango sorbets in India - land of a thousand mangoes. We are thankful for accommodating us even when we came in without a reservation.

The staff overlooked too many details you’d expect from a nice restaurant. Drink refills, clearing the tables, and timely delivery of food were absent. The food was too buttery, too salty, too cheesy or too much spices. Sorry to say I wouldn’t recommend it.

A most fantabulous experience.superb dining experience. Exquisitely delicious Italian food. Believe me Ive had my fair share of my 58 years of life & this restaurant is at the top of the list now.Our waiter, Juan, went so far above and beyond superb, I will leave it at that.

We are staying at the Hyatt and some of the reviews encouraged us to try this place out. We ordered two cocktails, the carpaccio, a margarita pizza, and a garden salad. The check came to $100! Yup, thats for three apps and 3 cocktails. So, first item, this place is seriously overpriced​. But not any more than the other restaurants​​ on premises. My husband loves a good margarita pizza. We asked our server how it was and he said really unbelievably great. Its more like a 12x4" flatbread. Lets just say for a guy (my husbandwho loves pizza he could NOT (or did notwant to even finish the pie. The pizza was over sauced and their sauce was truly disappointing, bitter and akin to tomato paste. We also asked about the Peppered Beef Carpaccio, our server said it was one of the best items they serve. This, too, was not great. It had way to much stuff on it (cured black olives, fig reduction, pickled shallots, shaved parmesan, and capersit comes alongside garden greens which would have been fine except they were drenched in dressing. The garden salad was the best of our order but this, too, was overdressed.As for the cocktails, lets just say ever hear the term watered down?

Fabulous! Loved the italian music playing on the patio... food was outstanding and we felt comfortable there, the staff were all welcoming! We will definitely go again. It was an easy, romantic ending to our vacation.

Lousy food, service even worse. Had to ask passing servers for everything...salt, drink refills, the checks. Our server ignored our table. We had to wait for everything. Limited food choices AND way over priced. I read the reviews and knew we taking a chance but had hopes for the best of the mixed reviews. Believe it and save your time and money.

Very romantic setting, great service, but the food leaves much to be desired.

I gotta admit : we filled up on appetizers before our meal. Make sure you try the caprese salad!

The chicken scallopine was served cold,although the risotto was warm and tasty. Margherita pizza did not have much basil. Service was OK. Food was overpriced for the taste, although decent portions.

The food was all around bland. The Fried Mozzarella had zero flavor. I order the Lobster and Crab pasta, again no flavor. And the lobster was over cooked and so salty. And the caeser salad was lacking dressing.

If you are looking for great Italian flavour this is the place! Quality, peaceful and great service! Totally worth it.

Was terrible, served Filet very poorly, but pasta was not bad, and everything was over priced. I recommend to go to your local Italian dinner place

Cioppina... Very, very good. To many choices LOL. The others we were with only had good things to say.

The restaurant setting is amazing, thats about the extent of it. The food is over priced and not prepared well for what is supposed to be a 5 star restaurant. The whole experience was not good. The manager made it right in the end, but the chefs, if you want to call them that, are mediocre at best. Save your money and time and eat out at the local Italian restaurant.

I cant imagine going to Hawaii for Italian but I will admit this is just about equal to the North End in Boston. I shouldnt need to say more.

My wife and I ate at Donderos, and we must say, top notch Italian cuisine! Coming from North Jersey/Manhattan where, trust me, we know Italian, Chef Cary Roy is creative and intuitive with ingredients and it shows in all the flavors and dishes. Juan was our server for the evening and hands down is the best at his career, truly cares for the guest, is on top of his game but gives you time. Both were gracious and attentive.I also read the previous reviews but wasnt disappointed by any restaurant in the Grand Hyatt. We stayed in the Grand Hyatt for a week over our two week honeymoon and Donderos is the best restaurant we ate at since being on Kauai.

Olive Garden food (or worsefor Spiaggia level prices. Really bad. Try Pizetta or...any other Italian restaurant on the island. I was actually pretty shocked to find food that was on the property of a several hundred dollar per night hotel that is this bad.

Let me be clear: the food isnt bad, you just pay (a lotfor good, rather than great. Service was pretty good (which is more than I can say about the other fine dining place in the same hotel).The grilled fish was in an overly-rich sauce, making the fish flavor disappear. The chicken piccata was good, but not especially lemony. Outrageously expensive (over-pricedwine list with few decent options by the glass.

The food and ambience were great. Our server Rosemary, was not up to par, but every one else in the restaurant was good.
