Don Lucas Cigars - Cigar shop in Salvaleon de Higuey, Dominican Republic
Its a tourist destination with minimal tour info & guidance.
Very expensive and waited long time for lift
Awesome place! Wonderful tour!
As a courtesy with Delta Vacation, the tour guide offered a souvenir tour free of charge. I was able to add to my hat destination collection. They had several different brands of alcohol that Ive only seen at this location out of my four times that Ive visited the DR.
This was part of the town tour from breathless resort. It was nice but us being who we are would have liked to see the real culture of the Dominican Republic for the town tour or shopping.
Cigar hunting in Punta Cana? They sell the real deal Cubans, everyone else sells fakes. Buy 10 cigars min & ask them to box/seal them, don’t forget to buy some to smoke on your trip. Tip the guy that packages them & your guide. Their house cigars are very nice too.We bought a couple chocolate bars and couple small souvenirs. Free transport back to our hotel, no pressure.**Addressing other bad reviews: Spreading money around the island is a good thing for these people. I went with my gut and dropped $500.00 on cigars, I would still check the sticks you are buying. After leaving, I read some bad reviews calling this place a tourist trap, or saying they are selling bad product. I wanted to address this with photos, explanations.1. Tourist trap? Punta Cana IS a tourist trap, these guys sell every souvenir you can get in that area for the reasonable prices, the difference is there is ZERO pressure and they are very professional. You don’t have to buy the other stuff, if you want cigars buy them, be kind and see the rest of their offerings and move on.2. Sub Par Product, cigars cracking etc: If you buy cigars realize they aren’t supposed to be out of the humidor for very long. Also understand that you can’t let them get banged around. Let them box your cigars, put them in your humidor once home.3. The cigars are too expensive… Their prices are on par with other sources for the US market.4. Fake Factory? This was a weird one, they have cigar rollers there to show you the process. They aren’t going to be making cigars at all hours of the day. They make small batches of hand rolled cigars. You won’t always catch them in the middle of production.Enjoy your trip, be safe and have fun. Tip the people who make your trip nice.
Interesting how the process is to make cigars, but unfortunately I dont smoke them.
It was a nice quick tour. They have a chocolate, cigar, and liquor store within the compound. Theres a tour guide that explained a little bit for each of products. It was a nice cheap way to kill some time. Our transportation there was free and there was no charge for the tour. A nice place to buy souvenirs.
Fun! Great staff and friendly! Loved the rrum tasting and cigars! The chocolate was delicious too!
Great place to visit if you are staying in Punta Cana. You are presented with a complimentary cigar upon your arrival, given a nice tour of the facility, and you finish with a rum tasting session. Everything is here: full gift shop, coffee, jewelry, rum bar, cigar room, and chocolate room. They also provide complimentary transportation to and from the the lication. I highly recommend.
Great service, Definitely a must go to when visiting Dominica Republic
Very nice place to go and shop. Very clean and lots of samples.
Hospitality is key. True a fun interactive way to shop. You not only get to see how its made but you get to try the products as well. Might have to make a second trip
Skilled hand made cigars with nice bundle packages for you. Great tour and staff.
This was a great surprise. We ended up with a "free" tour. Really was a lot of great information. We spent too much on souvenirs here. Going some similar jewelry for less elsewhere, but I think we were all thrilled with everything regardless. The tour itself made it worth it. Tasting of chocolate, tea, hot chocolate, cigars and of several kinds of rum. You just cant go wrong! Definitely worth the trip!
Had such a good time!! The ride was free from Secrets RB. The prices were a bit higher than mail order, but who cares, its a vacation Right!! Found Habana Cohibas, so theres that! Chocolate, Cigars, coffee, and rum.
Very friendly. They let me roll one to take home!
extremely nice shops. higher end for RD built for tourists.. youll love if thats what your looking for. personally I prefer mom and pop type shops where locals shop (this is definitely not that).
We visited here while on a tour with punta cana Mikes Dominican adventure.Really relaxed atmosphere were we could see how the chocolate was processed and had the chance to roll a cigar and chat with the staffIve got to admit the rum tasting was my favourite part of the tour.Good for all ages
Our tour guide José was wonderful and friendly much like all of the locals that we encountered on our trip. I bought the Don Lucas bellicoso sampler (5 packand just had my first one back home. The cigar was as great as the tour! I also bought a few cigars from other brands as there is a very spacious humidor upstairs featuring not only Don Lucas but many other popular brands. Highly recommended and thank you José for a great tour!
Excellent place to do business. My spouse and I were we on vacation and I asked the drivers we hired to transport us where was a great place for cigars and possibly a sip of rum and he immediately said Don Lucas. We did the cigar tour as well as the rum and chocolate. I purchased several cigars and a bottle of Black rum. My spouse doesnt smoke but she enjoyed everything immensely.
An authentic insight into the mysterious world of cigars and how theyre made. A lovely set up with live workshop and working studios. Lots of things to learn and enjoy
A very interesting tour. Learning how cigars are made.
Our guide -- Rafael -- was excellent and answered all of our questions! HE WAS FIVE STARS! I gave 4 stars for the rest of the experience. Plan to spend <2 hours here. Free transport to/from Bavaro area was included and the company quickly responded to our email to set this up, which I appreciate.I have no prior knowledge of the cigar making experience and I learned so much interesting information. The other part of our group knew more about cigars and enjoyed this tour thoroughly. It is legitimately a tour, where you will see and sample the entire process. We loved going in the humidors and smelling the scents. Nearly all of the tour is immersive and the workers were very friendly. They sell a variety of cigars -- including Cubans -- and Rafael helped our group pick out souvenirs. The rest of the "tour" of the complex includes being guided (you cannot wander on your ownthrough a jewelry area, a skincare area, a coffee + chocolate area, and finally a rum area. For all of these other areas we had a different tour guide who we did not gel with. Everything was very rushed. Our group was also excited to sample and hear about the local rums, but we were only given a sample of 4 (though many others were available for purchasewith no backstory. It felt very commercial and lame. I would have bought rum, but there was also only 1 size of the bottles so I did not want to commit to something I had not tasted. If nothing else, go to see/learn about the cigars! You could do without the rest.
Nice to see how they do cigars . Lots of different products: Rome, coffee, coconut, chocolate...
Great place to learn about Dominican products and buy local goods for you and your friends and family. Amazing quality and prices. Only original products, no knock-offs. Highly recommended!
Buyer beware...yes they have cigars, rum, coffee and cigars but dont go expecting great prices on Dominican cigars they are higher here than in the states...fake cubans also dont get caught up....visited a local shop called Ritual and enjoyed one of the best 4 dollar cigars, smooth smoke from beginning to end. Don Lucas has souvenirs and high cigar prices...over charged and disappointed save your money
Handmade dominican republic cigars. Worth it. Buy online. Straight from warehouse.
We got a lesson on the art cigar rolling. Pretty cool !!!
This is a nice spot to visit and buy cigars. I have read a couple of post and they stated the cigars were horrible. I smoke cigars on regular basis all brands. I must say I totally disagree, the cigars I purchased were very good quality and had a very good flavor profile. If I had to compare it to another brand I would say somewhat like Ashton type quality referring to the HS series. Will return in the future!
I love that place...people were so nice. They speak several languages and very professional showing how they build cigars. Simply Awesome!!!
Great tour tour to take in Punta Cana, it was a four part tour but cigars were a highlight. We saw the process of rolling, pressing and finishing, and sampled cigars by taste. Their humidor has a great selection to take home as well. Definitely a cool half day tour!
Was a great guide shopping excursion. A private shopping area with all thing Dominican Republic. Cigars, Jewelery, Gift shop with souvenirs, Coffee, Rum, and Chocolate all made inhouse. Guided tour explains how all things are collected and made there. Great 2hr shopping getaway.
My wife and I took the tour. It was a good break from the sun and very informative and interesting. If you like cigars, they will make one for you to smoke during the tourIm not a cigar person and it was still fun. The tour also included rum, coffee, and chocolate tasting. The coffee was great, the chocolate also very good. Try the chocolate tea, you wont be disappointed.
Great group of people. Very nice and informative. Good cigars.
We made arrangements through Apple to do this shopping trip. We got to see how cigars are hand rolled and a rum tasting. I would say this is good for someone who wants to do some souvenir shopping without having to haggle or worry about what you are really buying. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The prices were better than the shops at the hotels but the thing we felt was missing was the local art and crafts. There were some but a lot of the items were just mass produced items you could find at the airport on your way home.
Staff was very welcoming, very informative about the cigars, the rum, and the chocolate. Really enjoyed our time there. Very nice gift shop and jewelry store too. I really recommend it for a few hour visit. We have a rental car and so we just pulled really right in, most people there were on tours via hotels and seemed to enjoy as well.
Fantastic tour. Andres was a great guide and took good care of us. Not a super indepth tour but if youre into cigars and staying out in Punta Cana its a great way to bust off resort and see how the cigars get made. They will try and find a cigar for you to sample while you tour if you tell them what you like.P.S. Cigar lovers: 90% of the Dominican cigars are produced in duty free zones so the ones you buy there have already been shipped and bought back for resale. You wont find them any cheaper in the D.R. Best to get them in the US.But since Don Lucas doesnt ship to the US and they are made right there Im not sure why therir prices were so high. I bought a 5 pack sampler for $55 US dollars. They are great cigars but still seemed pricey to me.
Laid back tour. Learn the nitty-gritty behind authentic DR cigars, rum, coffee & chocolates at Mundo Autentico.
Excellent experience, 100 percent recommended for anyone in the area, but know your prices before you go. Especially if you are Canadian, alot of cigars can be bought in Canada cheaper.
Got a free tour of the place. Seen how they roll, dry, store, and package cigars, coffee, rum, and chocolate. Free cigar, and good prices
Got there with a free trip from the hotel, the market is not cheap, polite staff, i think most of them are russian, rum tasting cigar tasting and coffee. Cigars are in reasonable prices, u can follow the wrapping procedure and buy some, same with rum.buy the brulé it is one of a kind, but it costs 40$
Transportation to and from was free and in new minivans with great AC. Flavio was an excellent guide and did not pressure us to buy. We got to try a cigar and make one. Rum was great and the mango and passion fruit drink they made was the best tropical drink we ever had. Adonnis in the chocolate tour was informative and passionate about the cacao culture in DR..milk chocolate was amazing. Excellent tour and prices were reasonable in the shops.
Cool place to tour in Punta Cana. Good run and coffee also.
We wanted to do some lite shopping while in the DR & here is where we were taken. The area consisted of a cigar store where handrolled cigars could be purchased, a coffee/chocolate store and a rum house. While the pricing was less than that of the gift shop at the Riu Republica, it was still higher than expected.Friendly staff that spoke minimal English was able to assist you as best they could. Our tour guide had us slated to stay here for 2 hours 😳😳😳 but we only lasted for about an hour & we were ready to go.The entrance was guarded by an individual that was required to manually lift this super heavy looking gate... Man talk about some "heavy lifting".Therum house offered run tasting, which was especially nice.
Hand made cigars open to the public (I’ve never tried one but definitely satisfying finding out how they’re made). Nice bar and smoking room(ish). Very Cool gift spot with a variety of things from gifts to beauty products and funny looking monkeys made with dried coconut. Overall, this is a stop worth making.
Before going on vacation, I did a little research, since I smoke 2-3 cigars a month, I wanted to make sure I get quality REAL cigars in the DR. I came across DON LUCAS cigars. I contacted them and arranged a free pick up (and drop offat our hotel. They were on time. The tour took a total of 2 hrs from Riu Republica...(I didnt want to loose a whole beach day).I was very impressed, as soon as we walked in we were greeted by Andres. After we all had our choice of (mild, medium, or strongcomplementary cigar in hand, he showed us the cigars being produced, and educated us on the types of leaves and what part of the cigar they are used in, (for the seasoned cigar smokes, we already know this), Andreas was very informative. He also took us to the humidor where the cigars are aged. Wow, I was very amazed.Their cigar sales humidor is very big, and the selection is huge. Not only do they sell their own brand (which is very good), they also carry all the top cigar brands from Dominican, Cuban, and Honduran cigars...all legit. There is NO pressure to buy at all.The cigars here are not cheap, but good cigars are not cheap. An avg. box of 15 Don Lucas cigars will set you back $100 - $150 USI hope my review helps out all the cigars smokers out there that are looking for quality over quantity.DO NOT BUY FROM THE VENDERS ON THE BEACH...THEY ARE FAKE...and dont taste good at all. Dont waste your money.BTW ladies, they sell much more then just cigars...you too will enjoy the tour.
It was a nice place. The cigars a pretty pricey though. If you want a box of known label cigars expect to pay anywhere from $180-$500 a box. You can buy their in house cigar box starting at $45. The rum part was awesome. Decent price and great flavor to accompany. The folks there very nice. I was only disappointed the the prince of dominican cigars were basically the same price as the DC area.
Awesome place. Great place to see how they make cigars. Go to the gift shop and buy some cigars. After that go taste some Rum (awesome). Move on over to the coffee bar and then finish up with some fantastic chocolate! Its all free! Thats correct free! Google Don Lucas cigars and request a pickup, plenty of Vans. No waiting to return to resort.
Had an excellent tour at Don Lucas. From watching the gentlemen roll cigars, rum tasting, coffee shop, jewelry store, and a chocolate factory. They picked my wife and I up from our resort (Excellence El Carmenat no charge and we had a personal tour guide (Flaviowho walked us around to each building.Definitely worth the vist if you are in the Punta Cana area.
