Domkirkeodden - History museum in Hamar, Norway
In my opinion, one of the nicest park/recreational/museum areas in Norway. A lot of historical things you can explore without any cost, open gardens you can enjoy relaxing in, bathing and open areas you can use to whatever. It’s close to city center and connected with the Railway museum and climbing park.
Beautiful!
Very beautiful place
Bad
Very nice placeNatureCalm atmosphereCould stay there for hours and just to absorb the Norvegian atmosphere❤️
Ive visited this site many times. It is basically an outdoor museum, with a collection of old houses, sporting an indoor exhibition, and the cream of the crop: the ruins of the old cathedral / bishops castle. Today, the ruins is encased in a glass ceiling, recreating a sacral atmosphere. We went there for a midnight concert, and it was quite simply magical.
Beautyful location for a handfasting/wedding!
Beautiful church ruins roofed by a large glass triangle. We attended a wedding ceremony which turned out absolutely fantastic.Great acoustics and a very nice atmosphere.
A great and well organised museum with a treat from the singing guide to use the wonderful acoustic.
Great for anyone e.g parking. Welcome to Hamar
Picturesc area by lake Mjøsa. Some old buildings belonging to a museum area and a park/forestarea. Several small natural gravel/rock-beaches and one larger gravel/grass-beach. Just one, quite expencive restaurant, but a short walk (800mto "Maxi" or (1000mCitycenter.
Lovely place for walks or picnic.
Its awesome place
A genius way of preserving our Christian heritage, and the glas roof also gives the acoustics worthy of the building.
If you are interested in older Norwegian/Swedish history or want to go swimming / relax by the water this is the place to be. Perfect if you want a place to go with the children or friends.
Very nice
A great day out with history. To walk along the waters edge surrounded by the buildings from a bygone era and catch up on the history of "Odden" is a wonderful experience. The paths are well made and can be navigated by the less able, the ruins of the d church are lovely and the work done to preserve the site is tremendous.
A very special and beautiful place. The old church perserved in glass is amazing. Make sure to check out the yearly medieval festival. Truly a gem!
Very nice
Hamar Town was established as a Town and trade center after a decision made by the Norwegian. Parliament in 1849 . Hamar or Hammer has an history going back to the Middle Ages or earlier . The Catholic Church in Rome had 5 administration power houses in Scandinavia during theMiddle Ages .One of theme was Hamar where the Catholic Church built on of their power centers back in 1151 A.D , in form of a cathedral and a huge settlement . The ruins of the Cathedral , who was burned down by the Swedes in 1537 , The Reformation banned the Catholic Church and the Vatican lost itspower and vast properties in Scandinavia . Today there is a museum.on the site . In addition the ruins from the old Cathedral are intact , covered with a special designed Glass House . A popularplace for weddings Today . On the other side of Hamar Town there have been uncovered a settlement dating back to the Viking Age . Hamar Town became an important Town as a hub for train travellers . Where travellers to the Eastern part of Norway had to change trains . From Hamar Town both the eastern and the northern routes take you to Trondheim City . Today the train takes you directly to Oslo Airport almost every hour . Only a 40minutes ride away . Back to Domkirkeodden . There have been several archeological excegrations on the area where the old Cathedral stood . Many of them on display in the Museum . Hamar is the administration site for Hedmark County , the administration site for the Hamar Parish . Hamar are also the site for the Eidsivating lagmannsrett .The Norwegian Judicial System next most important Judicial Court . The name Eidsiva was also the name of the site for the Judicial system in use in Norway back to the middle ages ..
The glass structure is nice to look at from outside. But not worth it to go inside. There are some ruins of old building so unless you are a historian or an archeologist its not really worth it to pay to enter. The second building has more to see but it is also a typical Norwegian museum which if you have seen one, you have seen all.
Ruins of medieval cathedral enclosed in a greenhouse like structure.
Nice historical glass house
I love this place :probably the nicest place in Hamar :If you visit you have to see :)
Beautiful architecture around amazing ruins. Tours are available and, like a lot of Norway, its English friendly.
What an incredible place is! A mixture of nature and museum that people can walk, relax, run and do family activities in summertime.
Beautifully preserved piece of history. The way the glass has been built catches the summer sun just right.
History is preserved in such a great way. Must visit
Well preserved historical ruins
Nice place for walks!
Great place for one day trip.
Had a really cool castle for children of all sizes 🏰🐴
Fantastic scenery. Very well recommended.
The ruins of the old Cathedral destroyed by Swedish soldiers at the end of xvi century. Protected by a glass block, the soace us also used for concerts and cultural events. It is in the river of the lake and ii is very suggestive.
Beautiful place! Would love to get married there ;D
A really special Church in serene surroundings!
Hamar Medieval Faire... I love it! The people, the place, the merchandise: Its all just brilliant! Here you find knights in shining armour, quite un-distressed damsels in awe-inspiring dresses, jugglers and top craftspeople. You find good food (though not necessarily anything suitable for vegans or vegetarians), good drink, a festive athmosphere and lots of good conversations. Go there in 2019, people; its worth it!
Nice museum, including remnants of the cathedral.Beautiful surroundings.
Love this place
A really well-done piece of architectural preservation
Beautiful place in the summer time for family trip and swimming.
Beautiful old cathedral. Big green outdoor park . Love the history of this place . The Viking bar in summer is very good. The medieval week is the best.
This area has nice paths for walking.
Nice place, but if youre no pilgrim you have to pay 11 euro. I dont think its worth that money.
Wonderful location and very interesting displays and buildings. This is a nice to go for a stroll, even if the museum etc is closed. Has a gift shop.
Been here a few times, great place. Though it is not open in the weekends outside of the season - as Google opening hours suggest.
Beautiful place and good food at the restaurant.
A fascinating experience in a very calm location, a mist see for tourists visiting Hamar! Offers a great spot for a peaceful summer walk.
A very nice place to visit and walk around.
Nice place to visit. The glass couple is kind of nice architecture and maintains the old cathedral.
