4 round towers bookend this early Gothic-style cathedral with lavish Baroque interior & royal tombs.
Beautiful building
Hard to get a good photo of he outside, but this is a beautiful Dom. It is very rich in history and has a crypt and several unique paintings and sculptures.
Worms is one of Germany’s oldest city besides Trier and the Dom St Peter, consecrated June 9, 1018 which it’s foundation erected by Bishop Burchard +1025, the high altar on the east side was created by Balthasar Neumann who brought the sculptor Johan Wolfgang von der Auvera between 1738-1742 after the great city fire in Worms 1689. The two figures larger than life size figures of St Peter complete with the rooster saying “you will betray me three times before I crowed” and St Paul on the other side , this altar at a glance has a breath of Barrock influence. Also the Gothic signs are every where to find such as the apse combing a woman hair, the roosters etc. Btw Worms also known for the place where in 1521 Martin Luther refused the catholic believe. On top of it all Worms also has been a city of winemaking since the Romans brought wine here.
Dom St. Peter is the number 1 tourist attraction of Worms. Though you can find many similar cathedrals across Germany or Europe and neither is it the grandest one, I like it due to its few special features.First, it is the shape of the high towers. They are cylindrical rather than the commonly seen rectangular. The stained glasses, not the ones showing religious stories or holy figures but the plain ones, are lovely. Together with some of the stone and wood cravings displayed inside, it made my visit pleasant and tranquillizing though I am not a religious person.
Quite a stunning medieval structure!Even though the smallest out of Rhenish imperial cathedrals (Mainz, Speyer and Wormsit certainly does not lack any beauty to its counterparts. Also the youngest among them, built with red colored bricks around the year 1130, this cathedral is a dominant of Worms. However, finding a great overview of the cathedral from the outside turned out to be a rather difficult task. The west end, also the front of the cathedral was under construction (there is also an entrance to the premises of the cathedral that was closedand the whole north part of Schlossplatz was covered by tribunes for a musical event. The best views can be appreciated from the south side - the park area with an iron miniature of the cathedral - where the entrance is located. The little rose garden, left to the entrance, is decent, but not really well maintained. The inner parts resemble many other cathedrals around Germany, however I find the main nave quite different, the ambience there is pure and simple. Miniature model of the complex is on display in one of the transept, stained glass windows are to be admired throughout the cathedral and a gorgeous high altar is a great masterpiece. I also enjoyed the gothic reliefs from the abandoned cloisters hanging on the walls. Unfortunately there is not a possibility to enter any of its four towers, however the tiny crypt is available for exploration.A small souvenir stall is located inside the cathedral, offering, apart from postcards and memorabilia, informative English brochures for a 50 cents donation.Worth to visit while in town, visited in August 2022.
Another spectacular rebuilt structure in Old Town
I was so excited to explore and just be I. The same city as this church. The architecture and history here is just stunning. Every area is very detailed and since being built around 1120 it has been maintained and kept in impeccable shape. I would suggest seeing this church. And don’t forget to check out the street filled with monuments and statues of some of the most important figures of the cathedrals/cities history.
Great history
Really beautiful church.
Its huge and most of it was completed already in 1181. A pivotal place for German history...
Absolutely stunning building! It is just incredible. Much bigger and older then most of other famous buildings in this category. Recommend to visit.
My life partner Julie, friend Yvette and I had an amazing experience at this wonderful church.
Good place of worship
Again and again I have seen this beauty from afar on my many bike rides and have not been disappointed. It looks impressive, you wont be disappointed here. The impression from afar really did not deceive me
WOW, just wow. What an experience to see this Dom. Glad I came. 🥰
Gorgeous stained glass windows and stunning high altar. This cathedral is worth the time to visit.
Place to see, cause history has been written here.
Symbol of the City, the impressive medieval cathedral has a lot to offer to both the occasional as well the dedicated visitor.
If you like Romanesque architecture, you must visit this church.
I missed explanations in many exhibits. No access to tower or crypta. This important church should be presented much better to the world than in this lackluster way.
Looks great from the outside. Step inside if you have some spare time, but dont worry if you dont.
Fascinating archaeological features
Classic cathedral. Worth a visit when in the area.
Beautiful church and surrounding area. Architecture is wonderful with renovations taking place on the exterior to restore the brickwork. Free entrance and easy to find. Paid parking locations near the entrance. Worth a visit if in Worms
Four towered church in the middle of city worms provides a warm ambience once you enter the church. Along the wall you will see the sculpture of Biblical stories or events. Colourful stained glass window panes bring in mystic light. It is equally beautiful from outside.

I love this place but sadly theres no English transcriptions and I couldnt enjoy it as much as German sightseers. Anyway, I recommend, really beautiful!
I was lucky enough to visit this incredible place today has such an interesting history .The building is built to staggering detail and and the inside is no exception. This building and surrounding grounds are well worth having a walk through .
Great place to visit, only had the pleasure of walking the grounds for now.
Living history! Some descriptions in English. Dont miss the crypt.
Amazing mix of styles. The main altar is wildly baroque. Astonishingly deep and highly decorated in gold.
Great place to go and enjoy
Great human accomplishment. The idea that people could create such structures with the tools they had are just amazing. The detail in every wall every object is insane.
What an incredible experience. Tge richness of history, if you take a little time to uncover it, will impress. To be in a place and let yourself go back in time to imagine the sites and sounds, is such an adventure. The Dom St. Peter is one of those places that makes it easy to do just that. Walking the grounds and through the buildings lets you travel back in time over some of historys greatest events ranging from the early days of the Reformation to the tragedies of World War II.
I love this Cathedral. Looking at the building and the number of years it has made really amaze me. The bells sound so well in such a way that you can hear from another state. Worship times here are very important as they do not miss anytime for other matters. God is their priority and bringing Pepe closer to God is their Goal. I so love this and wish to always be around that area all the time.
On of the oldest Cathedrals. Worth seeing
Beautiful old church with lots of exquisite artefacts. The catacombs are also open to view. Very beautiful and very interesting
Over 1000 years old was interesting enough, but the Marc Chagall stained glass windows are one of a kind.
Stunning architecture and the building looks well maintained.
Very beautiful inside and out!
Worth a visit☝🏼
Historic buildings of the Reformation
The historical place of Reformation
This Dome was part of our European tour of Cathedrals. Easy to get to. You can see it from the main autobahns around Worms, Germany and definitely worth the drive and couple of hours to visit this Dome. Go there an say a nice prayer that will make you feel like your sould was cleanse and the walk around the many stores and restaurants located around the Dome.
Very beautiful duomo!
Massive building not very much adorned but impressive through its stone simple style
St. Peters Cathedral in Worms, view of the east end, crossing tower and north arm of the transeptSouth side with NikolauskapelleThe city of Worms with its cathedral around 1900The Cathedral of St. Peter in Worms is the smallest of the three Rhenish imperial cathedrals . The Worms cathedral is steeper and slimmer designed and about a hundred years younger than the dome in Speyer and Mainz .It was built essentially from 1130 to 1181.
Gorgeous Church with a lot of history and things to be seen and admired. The statues, paintings and other artworks are a marvel to see. It is a tourist attraction that you should see, if you visit the town of Worms. It is a historical and beautiful place to visit. More so if you are religious.
Beautifull ....
