Diocletian's Palace in Dubrovnik

You need to visit Diocletian’s Palace…It’s Split’s most popular sightseeing and it’s just breathtaking…If you want to get good photos and not have people in it, you should go in the early morning hours and if you are in some kind of rush but want to visit it, you could get a walking tour which needs to be paid. There are also a lots of things in it, but in my opinion restaurants and cafés should not be here because Palace is under UNESCO.

Nice view to the Dioclectians Palace. Couldnt go in the cathedral due to a wedding. I did visit the Bell Tower and got a view of the city. Didnt stay long you can do the whole Palace in 30 minutes. Youll need to buy tickets to see the insides eg museum, cathedral, Bell Tower, basement.

A very popular historical site with some magnificent treasures. Ensure that you go to the Split Cathedral, Bell tower, Treasury and Baptistry. You can buy tickets across the Courtyard from the Cathedral which allow you to visit the Cathedral and the Bell tower but when climb in the build town. Be sure to watch not to hit your head on the door way; because the steps are high and then you propel yourself to try and climb the steps and then hit your head on the low doorway at the belt tower entrance.There’s lots to see in the treasury in the other exhibits but the baptistry is a bit ordinary.There’s heaps of stairs to climb to get to the top of the bell tower.

Have a nice walk in the palats, walk through the history. Have a break on the steps and just become part of the history. Visit a museum or have a good meal in one of the restaurants. What ever you decide i know you will enjoy it

The place is impressive! And we have to thank the ancient Romans and Venetians who made this city look like this. I hope that the Croatian people will be grateful to them and keep these places intact!

Amazing place, beautiful, kept in good condition. Its best to visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds of visitors. The atmosphere there is absolutely gorgeous and makes you want to come back there again. From the Palace, you can enter a maze of charming little lanes spreading out all over the old town. This place is a must see!

It was a surprise walking onto the square, but I loved it. There is a restaurant where you can eat at the Diocletians Palace. I would recommend that. I wouldnt recommend to buy tickets to go into the palace. In my opinion it didnt add anything to the experience.

We weren’t inside, but the atmosphere is just amazing. Live music, people dancing and singing, cheering and it was lovely. Amazing romantic night, it was crowded but you can find your place to sit.I was amazed by this antic building!

Lovely place to visit at the heart of split, get a free tour to enjoy it more and in my opinion do not buy the combo ticket to see everything, check the photos of what you want to see and go to that.

Lovely, I enjoyed my walk around the Palace, its beautiful, rich in culture and so much history, I found a tour guide on Airbnb experience "Dragon is not a Slave" who I highly recommend, she showed us around the place, gave us a history lesson and a GOT tour which was super cool, this place is just a vibe.

What a wonderful place to go visit. I am not a GOT fan but I am a classics fan. The greek and Roman architecture in contrast to the Soviet era Brutalist architecture is truly amazing. Not crowed like Rome, Friendly like the Irish and crystal clear beaches down the road. If you have a chance, stay in one of the many boutique hotels in the palace or rent a villa just outside of split for more space and comfort.

Beautiful place and at the night time always have many people with nice restaurants. Almost impossible to get a table and often need to stay in long lines.. So old streets you feel like traveled in the past when walking around. We love every moment being there, would definitely come back.

Excellent place to visit, highly recommend a tour, we went with GetYourGuide. Easy to pay and download on the app for QR ticket. Our guide Mario was excellent with just the right balance of history and humour. £15 for adults and child for 1.5 hours, very good value.

Stunning Roman palace full of narrow alleyways, temples, squares, underground cisterns and towers. Full of shops, bars and restaurants throughout the day and night. An amazing place to explore, to get lost, to listen to music, to dance and to eat and drink. A UNESCO world heritage site that is as alive today as it ever was.

place on Split map where you must be, but inside of complex you dont see to lot of a interesting things, lacking in descriptions, maps etc in many areas of watching. Inside of Cathedral is beautifull, also "rich" treasury, but temple of Jupiter and tombs and undergrounds it was a mistaks.That place can be better organized

We didnt go in the palace its self just in the court yard and streets surround it , the floor is slippy when wet so go with shoes with a grip on .got my photo taken with some gladiators and afterwards they asked for cash for the photo , its a very beautiful place .

A tourist zoo in August, this Split old town is the best of the old stone cities. The underground crypt is fantastic, and all the people watching in Peristil is world class. Grab a glass of wine and enjoy!

This is a large palace complex. To get inside you need to buy tickets, on weekends you need to stand in a decent queue. It takes a couple of hours to walk around all the buildings.

Absolutely spectacular view from the top of the bell tower. It gets very busy in the square so would recommend doing this fairly early in the morning to avoid massive crowds (there are still lots of people just not as many!!you don’t have to walk right to the top if you don’t want to but would highly recommend!!

An awesome place to experience! A two thousand year old Roman imperial palace that survived by being transformed into a port city by the medieval Croatians. It is best experienced with a tour guide. Highly recommended

Ive never been inside a Roman ruin as complete as this one. And when you factor in the dramatic lighting, live music scattered throughout the venue, and all of the modern day shops and restaurants scattered throughout this section of Split it makes for a magical evening. Highly recommended!!

Amazing place. Wonderful mix of Roman and modern, with nothing to prevent you from getting up close to the statues, pillers etc. The whole palace is a maze of tiny streets, much of it clearly peoples homes now.Lots to see, eat and drink.

A must to see if you are around Split! We had a guide, which I advise to have if you want to get some information about it. Try to get up in the tower to have a lovely view of Spilt!

Old town of Split based ob the remains of the palace of Roman emperor Diokletian. Lots of tourists and really crowded in the summer. Definitely interesting to see, some old parts still remaining, very unusual cathedral and treasury. You can buy a combined ticket valid for different attractions. Clearly a must see when you are in Croatia.

The views and culture are amazing! Definitely worth getting a guided tour. We went with a food tour that included the Palace and surrounding mid evil architecture with delicious food tastings every step of the way.

This is a beautiful town square like place with classical architecture that is now filled with stores and restaurants. If you are in Split, This is a great place to visit for shopping, ice cream, and a meal. Its maze like and intimate. you can actually complete the walk through this place in an afternoon.

Very interesting spot, not miss out if you’re in Split. Close to the harbour and the narrow cosy alleys with shops and restaurants is a treat. This is the true historic part of Split.

A fascinating place thats literally a living museum. Its hard to believe that this was literally a palace now that the city has grown up within it. You do need a ticket if you want to go down into the crypt or into two of the buildings otherwise its free!

If you visit Split you will pass through here. Evan if History doesn’t interest you must do the tour… l went along with some Americans and they were amazed by the age of the palace comparing it with the age of there own country. Well worth a visit.

Had a tour with Toni a Magister of History, which was an excellent way to find more about the Palace. Very interesting. It costs nothing to enter the Palace but you do pay for selected areas like the basement which was not open when we had our tour. Suggest you go really early and avoid the crowds. Started at Bronze Gate where the shopping stalls are located just off the promenade.

Love every bit of it. A mix of rich history and architecture. There’s live music everyday at 8 also - in the piazza. Don’t miss it :)

The Riva is a great place for having coffee or delicious ice cream while watching the people passing by. Too crowded during tourist season for us, who live in Split for part of the year, but definitely a must-do for history interested people. A historical site, but buzzing with modern life.

Amazing historical place that is well preserved and lively with the locals. Gets quite busy. Many areas are public and no ticket is needed. To access the museum a ticket is needed. Many restautants and bars to choose from.

Walking through the narrow streets and lanes of Split you can find Diocletians Palace in the old town and with a beautiful and detailed architecture, surrounded by restaurants, shops, bars and houses. I recommend this experience to everyone, everyone will fall in love with the Roman architecture created at the time to be a military camp and that today permeates the history of Croatia.

Interesting place with an interesting story. Crowded in the high season, but theres plenty to see between the actual palace and all the stores and restaurants inside it. In the main plaza you can buy tickets for key historical attractions (the church, bell tower, treasury, and Temple of Jupiter), but the best deal is to get the package that includes them all. The climb up the bell tower is a bit dicey but the views and the history are worth it.

Very deep history, as like any European city. Beautiful ruins, and a 3500 year old sphinx!! A free walking tour is a must!!

Its an old fortress in old town of split. You can roam around the fortress. Mostly its closed so you can see ruins from outside but still its beautiful. Many GOT scenes are shot herethis whole place has cafes and bar, ice cream shops and shopping outlets. it’s beautiful place

This is a fantastic opportunity to step back in time and enjoy 2022 at same time ...Split is a wonderful city to visit and if you close your eyes and feel the past as you live in the future ...this Palace is a must see

Wasnt sure what to expect , historical place but you need to have a guided tour or lots of Google, beautiful backdrop something to do with game of thrones , never seen it , very touristy

Interesting place… The irony was not lost on me that Diocletian, who was a significant persecutor of Christians, was buried in a crypt upon which was later built a temple to Christianity. I could’ve done without all the gift stores but I understand everybody has to make a living.

This place is a free entry and u can explore the beautiful isles and walk ways of the amazing roman constructions and the lovely cathedral.The clock tower has a breath taking view of the beautiful city of split.

We were so stunned walking through this Roman palace in Split! It is actually the worlds most complete remains of a Roman palace. On first sight you may not recognize it as a palace as it looks rather like a city wall. This is because in post Roman times the people of split built their city inside the palace. So you will need some imagination when visiting. Best is to start your way in the cellar, entering from the harbor side. Then walk your way up to the historic Peristyle. Also three of the original four gates are preserved. Our biggest highlight was the temple of Aesculapius. Five stars is not enough for this site and even our kids could not get enough of it!

The palace is a wonderful place to walk around and soak in the ambience. Such a great place to spend a few days. Nice restaurants and cafes and lots of history down the small lanes.You need a ticket to go into the cathedral and some of the other historic sites, but its not much and definitely worth it. Ticket office is right next to the cathedral.

Really stunning ancient walls, well preserved and a calm place for walks in the evening. Lovely restaurants and shops around the area. Whilst it is one of Splits most popular tourist attractions there really isnt much to see compared to landmarks in bigger European cities

This is a must see while your in the city.Diocletian Palace is one of the best preserved monuments of the Roman architecture in the world.The Emperors Palace was built as a combination of a luxury villa - summer house and a Roman military camp (castrum), divided into four parts with two main streets.Southern part of the Palace was, in this scheme, intended for the Emperors apartment and appropriate governmental and religious ceremonies, while the north part was for the Imperial guard - the military, servants, storage etc.The Palace is a rectangular building (approximately 215 x 180 meterswith four large towers at the corners, doors on each of the four sides and four small towers on the walls. The lower part of the walls has no openings, while the upper floor is open with a monumental porch on the south and halls with grand arch windows on the other three sides.Over the centuries the Palace inhabitants, and later also the citizens of Split adapted parts of the palace for their own requirements, thus the inside buildings as well as the exterior walls with the towers significantly changed the original appearance, but the outlines of the Imperial Palace are still very visible.

It is a very astonishing place to walk around, take a rest and sit on the steps. At night, sometimes there are events and it feels a very nice atmosphere. It is beautiful to visit it at every time of the day.

If you are visiting Croatia but do not plan to stop in Split to see the Castle, you have your priorities wrong. This is a must see as it will create many wonderful memories for years to come.If you can stay in the castle, although it might not be the most comfy, it will also be a neat experience.

A stunning place in the heart of the old city of Split, it has a very beautiful square with restaurants and shops around. Palace is also beautiful from the inside and worth visiting.
