Dinosaur Hill - Terrain in Grand Junction, United States
Breath taking
Tracking dinosaurs... dangerous but fun for the family!
Great place for rockhounding. The whole hill is littered with ground scores. No digging necessary. We were also able to park overnight for free in our skoolie.
After walking to the top of the hill we found there was nothing then walking down the hill we found a box, hoping it was fossils. However it turns out it was just a sealed entry of the quarry. Not what we were expecting, so if u want to see some fossils, I definitely don’t recommend here. There was not much to see, it was boring for most of the part.
Dont waste your time, nothing to see here, no dinosaurs, just a few informational signs and a blocked cave entrance. Zero stars.
Its a great view and easy hike if you go early in the morning. Otherwise its too hot as theres no shade.
Good trail for a quick walk. Unfortunately most of the information signs are empty and don’t have any information!
Very interesting and moderate little Sunday afternoon hike
Just a hiking Hill. The info siges quite weathered. And the mine tunnel on the south side, looks like its been collapsed in because you can only see about 20 ft in. By the parking lot area they do have a shaded picnic table.
Easy hike that’s great when it’s warm and sunny but potentially miserable when it rains (mud). Definitely recommend for a quick walk with your pet or kiddos
Great little hike. Didnt see any dinosaurs, but whatever I guess.
Restrooms. Kiosks explaining the history. Very little shade and trails are moderately difficult. Summer time visits should be made early morning or late afternoon. Its hot in the summer, no water
Not really what I expected, but interesting from a historical perspective.
A wonderful place to visit. Planning to revisit in the summer to visit the whole park!
It was a wonderful evening for hiking and Geocaching.
Nice place to pull over and catch some views of Grand Junction and surrounding areas.
Great short hike. Take the time to read the short excerpts so you can really appreciate what you’re looking at.
A nice trail around a historical paleontological dig site. The original digs cut is still preserved. If the ground is wet the trail can be muddy and slippery on the inclines.
Nice place for a hike, take water, its steep at times and its hot but benches to sit on with shade and a restroom
Great trail for a quick workout in the mornings! One of the best views in Fruita.
It was cold and windy, but a good first hike, there were many hills, probably better to go in early fall and late spring. We went in early winter, and I would imagine that summer would be very melty.
Very nice, easy hike with interesting history and beautiful views!
Wonderful little hike with a nice view of Fruita. Our 8 & 10 yr old love this trail.
Quick hike, good for trail running! Great Views of surrounding area!
Great hike. A little steep and rugged on the south side, but still enjoyed it. Lots of history.
Interesting little piece of history, especially if you like dinosaurs and history. If you want to see the "mine" take the trail counter clockwise from the parking lot. The trail clockwise is in good shape to the top of the hill. Its a bit sketchy from there to the mine.
Close to town,an awesome little hike a good workout Trail... then the great stops along the way about the history of the area
30 minutes hiking in 100 degree weather without seeing a single dinosaur bone. Loved it and can’t wait for the update coming in 2002. Too bad it’s the only good view in the Grand Junction area.
This is an amazing experience. My husband and I came here 2 years ago and loved it so much we decided to move to Grand Junction to be closer so we can go more often.
Nice short hike but has a little but for everyone, was neat to see the dinosaur quarry.
What a lovely very easy trail, the scenery is so spectacular , there are so many little spots to stop and take in the view and snap some special moments. Plus it is free. You should also go to the Dinosaur Journey muesum , just 6 mins away, and check out some of the amazing fossil and other dinosaur collections, going here then going on the trails make it so much more fun.
Fun little stop on a raod trip from Oregon. Got out and hiked it and was quickly reminded of the altitude difference. Great spot to stretch the legs and view the natural wonders.
Nice little park with educational signs. Learn about how the rocks got there, what dinosaur bones were discovered, how the landscape was shaped. There is a bathroom and a covered picnic area. The entrance is not well marked.
Great place to get out for a little exercise, see some history and great views of the Colorado National Monument, Grand Mesa, the Book Cliffs and the LaSalle mountains!
Great hike for the kids. Took the grandkids and it was fun reading the signs, the view is breathtaking. Go when its cooler because its a good hike up and down the hill.
Great hike! Well marked trails, not too easy.
Went with 8 and 10 year old kids and hiked this trail. It was a little sketchy in some spots but it was fun. Kids were a littlw disappointed there werent any dinosaur bones to see.
Its great for a short workout. I do it twice and come home. It takes 20min.. has a great few of the Co. River lots of spring flow er s.
This is a great trail for the whole family
I really enjoy hiking here but am tired of people letting their dogs poop on the trail..... pick it up people!
Its a good hike with some rough bits, and its out in the open (no shade). But beautiful. Parts made me feel like I was on Mars. And you get to see where they pulled a brontosaurus out of the ground!~
Very beautiful! Great place to get out and get some fresh air
Great hike. About a mile long. A lot of fun for children and adults.
Despite the fact it was hotter than the tin roof the cat was on, we had a good hike. Learned a bit about why this site is significant for fossil history. It is worth the trip, but bring plenty of water if the temperature is hot. There are no vending machines here. Please take out of the area anything you bring in so the site is clean for the next interested party.
Great multi terrain hike progressing from flat to short hill climbs. Quite easy to circumvent the whole trail in a very reasonably short time yet still feel exercised. My favorite features its dog friendly
We pulled off on the way to Colorado national monument when we say the sign for Dinosaur Hill and we imagined dinosaur bones still ended in the hillside similar to Trail Through Time on your a few miles from this place.Instead there is a loop hole that is about a mile long to the top of the hill and sounds the back with signs along the way. Basically a dinosaur Skelton was found here about 100 years ago and all that remains is a fenced of tunnel where the dino was excavated from. The are no dinosaur bones to be found on the hill. There are beautiful view to be seen of the nearby Colorado National Monument and the mountains in the distance. There is also a nice picnic area. But that is about it.If you found this review helpful, please click "Like" below.
This was such a fun, small, family friendly hike! Goes around a hill and passes by the opening of a mine where a dinosaur was excavated. Its a loop trail, it does get rocky and uneven in places but not too challenging. Bathrooms and a small pavilion are located at the trail head. Highly recommend!
Sure do enjoy the hike... Very informative of what happened up there in the early 1900s...Great view of Fruita and the Colorado River
Cool little hill that makes for a 20 minute hike! Family friendly, very cool! No dinosaur bones here but still a cool piece of Fruita history.
A nice place to stop for a hike and a picnic with a covered picnic table.
