Din Tai Fung - Dumpling restaurant in Melbourne, Australia
Disappointing. Super small serving sizes for what you pay. Dumplings were mediocre at best. Also ordered a crispy chicken dish which was average as well. Overall: overpriced and small serving sizes and the flavours werent anything to write home about. You would need to spend a decent amount of money in order to feel satisfied. Plenty of better options available within the cbd. Crossed off the list.
Overall a pretty average experience. We were seated near the entrance of the restaurant which was very busy with people walking through with no windows. The food was pretty decent, specifically the spicy beef noodles and spicy prawn dumplings were delicious. Fried rice, crispy chicken and duck were only okay. I also did not like the robots running food instead of people. Overall only okay, not inclined to come back.Disappointing experience compared to what I was expecting after seeing videos of din thai fung in the US and China.
Busy restaurant with huge menu. Had their siumai and pork dumplings. Both were very tasty. Ordered via iPad but they made a mistake with the first try… all good but service was slow.
Delicious meal!Stopped by at Din Tai Fung and didnt disappoint. My family and I had a selection of dishes and all were very good. The food was served quickly and they have a little robot that runs the food out to the tables that the kids were very happy with.Even on a busy Sat Lunch we only had to wait 20 mins for a table. All very good.
Delicious food, just a tad pricey that’s all. Service was really good - we had so many questions and the waiters were always so happy and friendly with their responses. Nice and spacious setting, quick service. Also, my partner and I were able to beat the lunch time rush, so deffs recommend to get there a little early to not wait in line.
You cannot go wrong with the soup dumplings! The best! Spicy noodles are also really great. I recommend Din Tai Fung...and I highly recommend the one in KL if you are ever there. 😉
One of the best Xiao long Bao I ever had! I love their fried chicken fillet with fried rice.Located in emporium Melbourne. Big and spacious dinning area and great service staffs. 👍🏻They also have robots serving the customers.
Good food. Good service. Tablet menu systems in place made it easy to order.
Everything was so delicious! Loved it here, and the robot escort was hilarious!
Seated quickly on a Sunday morning. Spacious restaurant and food was great as expected!
Great experience, excellent food, lots of options and a cute robot! This was a really nice place for lunch, the xiao long bao was the highlight, so tasty and juicy. The spicy beef was really tender and the noodles had just the right amount of bite. The crispy bottom on the pot stickers was a highlight too. Ill be back.
Pretty spacious dining place. Their steam dumplings are pretty good. Comes with different meat filling options. My favourite is the pork dumplings. So juicy and tender. We also had chicken chilli, egg fried rice and sweet and sour chicken and it wasnt bad. So many option in the menu. Will definitely go back to try more. Price was reasonable. Service was fast and friendly beside the slow robots taking you to the table was a bit frustrating. Overall, pretty happy with the food
I was excited to try it, a friend introduced me to it in LA. The food was pretty good and came out very fast. Staff were friendly and answered all my dumb questions. Heaps of variety on the menu as well. Loved the noodles!
This place has been waning in quality for a while now. Upper end of prices on some of the most average food. Theyre not even trying with the soup dumplings anymore. Almost no soup and bland. Havent been too impressed with the other non-dumpling food either. Theyve recently employed robots to escort you to your table. It takes ages, and beyond being a gimmick, its honestly distracting during the meal.
Sensational dumplings, followed by black pepper lobster noodles!!!Service was fabulous, cant wait to go back. Theres so much more to try.
I came here two times. Not really like here to be honest. It’s not real Cantonese Yumcha at all.Can you believe that there are no classic dim sums like steam Chicken Feet, Steam Pork ribs with Soybeans, etc.Very average flavor , we order 1 basket of Juicy Bao, they are just warm, which should be very hot. The fried rice is very plain. Crispy Pork belly is very fatty! And not crispy at all, very disappointing! We paid 1 dollar on the Fresh chilies!!!!!The service is quite poor. No much table services. I prefer waiting staff pushing the steam dim sum trollies around the restaurant rather than ordering on an ipad and waiting for dishes to be delivered by a Robot!Don’t think I will go back again.
Immense experience, the robots delivered our authentic, flavoursome Asian infusion bombs briefly and discreetly, the Xiao Long Bao had a intense floral umami flavour, the deep fried sweet, spicy chicken kaarage was sumptuous, overall a jaw dropping, once in a lifetime experience. It left the whole RatPack satisfied. Thumbs up from the RatPack.👍👍👍
Nice food but small portions. Limited option for pan fried dumplings. Spicy fried chicken is awesome . Kids enjoyed the robot serving food fad
Nice food. The atmosphere in here is great and the place is decorated well. There are robots inside which go around and show you to your tables which is super cool. They can bring food too, which isn’t too bad. We ended up ordering so much we couldn’t finish it haha.Would recommend their Xiao Long Bao and Spicy Shrimp & Pork Wonton. They taste pretty nice.- The Egg Fried Rice is just a basic one. It’s nothing special but not bad at all.- Their Xiao Long Bao must have leaked during cooking since ours had all deflated and lost most of their soup.- Chopsticks were made from a pretty cheap material which fell apart pretty quickly. They’ve also got bobbleheads featuring their mascot which you could take home as a souvenir.
We have been to Din tai fung once before and loved it. This time we went and we’re told to wait in a long line, when we informed the staff we had a booking she said we still needed to join as she will only serve people one by one. By the time we explained again we were not walk in customers it was 20 minutes past the time we booked. 30 minutes later we were seated. We ordered the crumbed chicken it was fatty and under cooked. When we told our waiter he said it was it was sauce and was supposed to be like that. The dumpling were cold and not enjoyable. Overall the experience was terrible and we will not be returning, definitely not with the money.
The experience and every dish was fabulous. We had a robot escorted us to our table.Crumbed chicken fillet with egg fried rice has always been a favourite, a classic simple dish.Xiao long baos have consistently been good, the skin is always thin and the soup / meat ratio is just right. We decided to also try the crispy prawn pancake, it was special because they mixed the prawn mince with nice herbs like water chestnut (I think)
Quite possibly the most delicious food weve eaten in a very, very long time. The xo chicken rice was heavenly. Our younger children loved ordering their own food on the iPads on the table and being served by robots, they have asked to go back every day since!
Great food but the the visit was not as good it could have been as a customer had an argument with a staff member. Our lunch was interrupted.
Nice staff and awesome food,i highly recommend this restaurant, you can have a original Taiwanese food.
Great service, staff are attentive and the little escort robots are so fun LOL. Lots of space so makes it easy to pop in for a quick lunch doesn’t matter how big or small your table is.XLBs from this DTF is up to standard which is nice, I always enjoy the DTF at Emporium much more than the Syd World square DTF where the quality tends to vary.Spicy noodles with prawn and pork wontons also a delicious meal to get.
Great dining experience, they got robots so serve fast. Reminder: Once you order it is tricky to withdraw so make sure you order correctly. Orherwise, food is good. Make sure to reserve a table
Rubbery dumplings. Too much flour/too little chicken on spicy chick. Thick rubbery noodles. Over-priced for the quality. Hutong quality is better overall (for now). Sad to see quality depreciate (Ive eaten there before between lockdowns). Sign of the times eh?
Super quick food service.Very nice dumplings and dishes.I would recommend dining here. The cat robot service is a nice quirk and worth trying. Not sure how you get the robots to serve you tho. We had a human as our server. I didnt mind.
Best xiao long bao in town, I reckon. The noodles were also great. Very fast service, we were constantly surprised at how quickly the food arrives after we sent an order to the kitchen. The only downside is that its a bit hard to find the place.
Average service. The food wasn’t as nice as the original one in Taipei. A lot of dishes had too much soy sauce and just tasted salty.Makes me miss the Ding Tai Feng in Taipei more😭
Went here on Mothers Day. Busy but they try to get people in. It was an hour wait so the lady just phoned us to come. Food quality was great! They are fast to come out of the kitchen too. Well definitely be coming back.
Great selection. Get shown to your table by a robot. Order via a smart device.Moderately priced. Great service from staff members.Walk ins welcome but be prepared to wait anywhere from 15-30 mins during busy periods. We would definitely go back.
Juicy dumplings and excellent Braised Beef Noodles. Must try.
Used to be my fave place for xiao ling bao. But the tastes have been changed lately. Cannot be compared to the original store in Taiwan.Ordered:1. Xiao long bao: not the best.2. Shao mai: quite good.3. Sweet and sour soup: not the best - had to adjust the taste by adding the black vinegar.4. Spicy noodle with pork & shrimp wonton: this is ones really good!5. Chocolate lava mini buns: these are very good - love the oozing chocolate. Though the ones in Taiwan were in xiao long baos form.Should you go? Yes, to get a taste of Taiwanese flavours.
Delicious as always. The noodles was a bit bland but the dumplings and the rice were excellent. One of our go to places for dumplings. Highly recommend!
Delicious and authentic tasting food. Fast service, food came 5-12 minutes after ordering. Robotic servers! Lots of yummy vege options. For some reason its hard to find good vegetable dumplings but they nailed it here 😊🥟 would definitely come back, place is a great vibe!
I’ve been to Din Tai Fung a few times, and concluded that Din Tai Fung’s best were still their dumplings; very flavourful and juicy. Their noodle/rice/meat/vege dishes were still very decent, just not as flavour-packed as the dumplings. Their venue was comfortable, quite spacious and light-filled, and service was prompt.
Super delicious food every time. One star less because the ordering tablet did not have a stand and they said they couldnt change the table. The broken stand meant we had to constantly ensure the tablet didnt knock items on the table over and it was hard to look at the menu as a family. We booked the table 2 weeks in advance so would have expected at least the team to make sure we had a table with a proper tablet.
Ive been to DTF in many locations...I think this is my least favorite. But even with that said, the food is consistent. Fixes my DTF cravings in a pinch. Its also fun to watch all the robots roaming around.
Vegetarian food review: I regret not eating here earlier.it was fun to be greeted by the robot servers. The food comes fast once ordered and it is amazing quality and taste. I ordered the springrolls, the spicy wonton noodles and the tempura bao. Honestly I couldnt pick a favourite..the drinks are nice and refreshing and the tiger buns are not only cute, but also so smooth, pillowy and tasty.
I was so looking forward to eating at this place as the one in Singapore was nice. But I was a bit disappointed. The vegetarian wanton wasn’t very nice, and the noodle soup is very bland. The spicy spinach noodle is slightly better. Sesame ice cream was the best 🍨.We took away the vegetable buns, and they tasted average. Seems like the fillings for the wantons and buns are the same.
A popular dim sum chain from Taiwan. I’ve tried din tai fungs around the world and this one was quite average. The food quality and customer service doesn’t compare to other stores. However I think it is a fairly reliable and safe choice for a dim sum meal.
Great quality Xiao Long Bao dumplings, originated from Jiangsu province. Xiao Long Baos are filled with special Pork filling which when steamed releases a yummy soup alongwith the filling. Din Tai Fung is famous for its Michelin Star dumplings. A must visit to try those yummy suckers.
Everything was okay, but not great. Food was served warm. Service was good and ordering was easy with it all being done on a tablet. When ordering dessert there was the option to get it immediately or get it after the food was served, which is a nice touch. Mentioned that there was a child in our party and they had a plastic bowl and cutlery ready to go.
A great restaurant serving up some yum and creative dishes. The restaurant holds a big space and there is plenty of seating available. Staff were attentive and very friendly. We shared 2 different types of dumplings, crispy chilli chicken, crab fried rice and the hot cross bun baos. We enjoyed all the dishes, I particularly liked the crab fried rice as I had not tried this anywhere before and it was really delish! There was a generous portion of crab meat through the rice. The hero has to be the hot cross bao buns, so cute and very creative. Inside the bun was filled with a rich decadent chocolate and it was really enjoyable. Thanks for having us, we had a great time!
The xiao long bao are perfect. Juicy and delicious. Service was good. I found the other dishes such as the chilli won tons and broccoli with prawns over priced and nothing special. The atmosphere is lacking a little. If you only come for the xiao long bao then you’ll love it.
Wanna give 3.5 stars rather than 3.Every foods were pretty good. Especially dumplings were very succulent. Very spacious place with good music. But the thing is the noodle and the fried rice was kinda not that hot so we had to ask to heat that up.Every staffs were very friendly and helpful.
This has the No. 1 spot of chinese place in Melbourne on my list.Everything we have ordered the three times weve been here has been amazing. From dumplings to noodles, etc. A bit on the expensive side with respect to others in china town, and the portions are slightly smaller. However, I believe the dishes are so good and tasty that it is worth a try.
A must visit. Almost an institution I would say. The speed and efficiency of service is excellent and zero compromise on quality. Been coming for years.Ordered the egg fried rice, spicy veg noodle soup, xiao long bao, hot & sour soup. Everything was fantastic. You cannot go wrong here if you are hunting for good dumplings and Chinese food.
Stopped in for lunch and to try the famous xiao long bao , very well presented restaurant in a great location .Ordering off tablets and having food bought to your table in a timely manner and as you ordered it was excellent as you dont feel rushed into ordering your food and can order drinks at any time through your meal . This makes for a relaxing dining experience that is very enjoyable .We ordered prawn and pork fried dumplings as a starter which were cooked perfectly and very tasty with a great sauce that accompanies them .The xiao long bao was as advertised , very tasty and once you figure out your preferred additional flavours a meal to remember. We had pork buns after and as a personal favourite of mine I must say I was very happy with the quality and flavour of them .Although we like to try out as many different restaurants as we can whenever we are in the city , it will be hard not to stop in at din tai fung to try the rest of the menu , seeing what other people were being served all looked delicious as well . We will definitely be back .
