Din Tai Fung - Taiwanese restaurant in Hong Kong, Hong Kong
A delight for dimsum 🥟 lovers.DTF is a taiwanese cuisine restaurant with multiple branches in HK.We liked the spicy wontons, xialong bao, fried rice and 🍤 pork dumplings. The pan fried dumplings were not that great if youre a fan of gyozas. But overall a wonderful experience ☺️. They are open till 10pm and last order is at 9.30 so get in early in case heading for dinner.
High price for high quality of food and service. Same standard with other branches over the world. Service was above average. Washroom was located upstairs outside the restaurant. Many foreign visitors came here for dining. Long queue in rush hours.
Excellent service! Very delicious dishes ! High efficiency! A restaurant that always deliverers! A must go restaurant.
Not as good as the Din Tai Fung in Taiwan, but a very close second. The Xiaolongbaos still have amazing flavor and texture, and the side dishes are incredible. My children even eat their vegetables here!
Food is delicious. Have been to the Din Tai Fung restaurants in Taiwan and several other countries, their quality control is very good, the quality and taste are almost the same across all the locations. It is usually crowded, especially during lunch and dinner time, so be prepared to wait some time for seats.
Very good Cantonese food. The vegetarian selections were numerous and very good as well. Of course the meat based selections were equally as delicious. Even though this is a chain restaurant, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Always a crowd pleaser.Xiao long bao, Sui Mai and vegetables
Its always a good place to go if you are missing the Sau Lung Bao from Taiwan.
Constantly good dim sum. Service is great. Good comes quickly. Relatively affordable. Always best to go in a bit group so you can sample more of the menu but even with just the 4of us it was still great! The two kids lived it!
Although is a bit expensive, but it will never affect my experience here, soup dumplings (Xiaolong Baofull of great soup in it, and other fried rice and noodles too.
This placed used to be one of my favourites but the food has since declined in quality. The soups dumplings are supposed to be the highlight, but the soup and filling are not as tasty as they used to be. The spicy wontons still taste amazing, but the texture of the dumplings is off. The spring rolls also are not as ceispy as before.I really hope they improve since I actually do love this place, but for now there are way better and cheaper options that you don’t have to wait in line for.
king of chinese restaurant chain i think so.of course popular from tourists. also popular to local people.i love 小籠包!!!
Love the food here. Though the presentation and the portion can be improved. Expect to pay at least $150-$200 per person
Very much what youd expect from any Din Tai Fung branch. Impeccable service, consistent food and lots of people. However, the whole dining experience was let down by the noisy environment.
The food there was good. The price is not expensive. Around 70-100Hkd per!
Used to be a very long wait, but recently with covid, we got a table instantly. Prices are on the high side but thats to be expected. Food arrived rapidly and waiters were quite courteous. A nice place to go to if youre craving xiaolongbao!
Delicious soup dumplings and other little side dishes. The restaurant is big and sometimes crowded but the queue goes fast as the restaurant is well organized. Pretty much everything here is good. Xiao Long bao, shumai, veggies, Dan Dan noodles, wontons, red bean buns. They were out of some items when we visited, such as the pork buns but that didn’t take away from our experience at all.
Very busy and bustling when we went which created a good atmosphere, the experienced chefs did a good job at keeping it traditional and tasty without being bombastic, good food but nothing ground breaking for the price.
Ive never had a bad meal at Din Tai Fung. Of course, you must order their signature xiao long bao but everything else is yummy too. My faves are the green beans with pork and egg fried rice. Lines can get long during peak hours, so come early for your Taiwanese food fix.
Went back after a while, I found the quality decreased tremendously! Dont know if it were a replacement chef but the xiao long bao and especially the soup inside were so bland, dim sums with shrimp were overcooked and tasteless, the dough for shrimp pork shaomai was thick and the pan fried dumplings was chewy instead of crispy... The prices are really expensive for such poor quality food. Even the menus look now so cheap, so disappointing knowing how good they were before. Wont be coming back anytime soon for sure!
Their dumplings were amazing! We also had pork buns and noodles and it was all so flavorful! Definitely will try and go back before we leave 😋
Love it. One of the best meals in Hong Kong during my 5-day trip. The bun is so good though its little bit sweet for some people. Must try Shrimp dimsum cuz it tastes so fresh and savoury.Around HK$80/person (more affordable than Tim Ho Wan)
Din Tai Fung never disappoints, the quality is consistently high and their xiao long bao is still my favorite. I order the tossed shredded bean curd with seaweed and bean sprout every single time I visit this place. Ive returned so many times and frankly Ive never ordered anything thats bad. Although the wait time isnt short, its totally worth it.
Din Tai Fung (DTFis a must-go-to destination with out-of-town guests. Other Hong Kong restaurants may offer more “local” or “authentic” style dim sum options, but everyone goes home happy and full from here. There are no questions about “what is that” or “what’s inside that”?!? I also like that they offer a nice selection of items for vegetarians. Service is always exceptional. However, this is not a place to linger. The restaurant asks you to return the table within 1.5 hours, which is plenty of time to eat as the food comes out so fast.
Great food and better service than typical Hong Kong restaurants. Their signature xiaolongbao is worth trying. It’s not the same as the original concepts as the ones in their Taiwan locations. Still worth trying it while in Hong Kong.
One of the most delicious dumplings Ive ever eaten. We took few types. Everything was absolutely delicious! The service is fast and pleasant.Part of the kitchen is open and you can see the cooks preparing the dumplings . Wonderful!Definitely recommend the place
As always, the menu is extensive, affordable and easy to order for tourists. Mainly no spicy food and a huge variety of dumplings and noodles. This is usually the first place I take visitors when arriving in Hong Kong
The steamed pork dumplings here is the best. The other dumplings tastes very good too. You should not miss here if you are a fan of dumplings. The mushroom soup worths to try if you like mushrooms. It brings the best out from different kind of mushrooms.
The food there was surprisingly good. The price is not expensive. Around 70-100Hkd per dishes. If you go there alone, you can order some noodles only. If you can there in group, you can try man different dishes. The place is spacious, and very clean and comfortable. Offer a lot of seats and should not be difficult to get a seat even in lunch hour. Must go when you eat in Causeway bay area.
Absolutely THE most reliable Dim Sum chain in HK. This particular branch earns its reputation as one of the best of the bunch. Great service, wonderful food always a great time.
Tasty food with low prices. I didnt waited at all, almost instantly was seated and food was delivered in 3 minutes. Dim Sams are good but not crazy, beef soup was too spicy and nothing special. Stuff doesnt speak in English and not friendly. If you want to eat good food with low prices its good choice. But didnt understand the Michelin taste :Extremely noisy.
Great food at reasonable prices. Excellent service! Busy during peak periods but you can watch dumplings being skillfully prepared as you wait. Din Tai Fung have restaurants worldwide
Good but overpriced. I prefer Tim ho Wan. The best things were the cucumber with chili and garlic, the spicy vegetable wonton, and the string bean with minced pork. The Xia long boa were overrated and the truffle was not the best. The spinach with the garlic was just normal. Some other dim sum place without a Michelin star were better in my opinion.
The queue is long but worth the while. In this cantine-looking restaurant, the service is very quick and the dishes come flowing one at a time. The truffle dumplings are a must. In general there are excellent. All the other dishes were great ! Highly recommended!
The food here is really good and service is quite fast. You have to wait a little bit but you can make your selection while you’re waiting. They are pretty efficient (you get a number and you have to wait until it’s calledbut it does feel a little like a factory (there’s an hour an a half limit at the table)
I love Din Tai Fung. My first visit I was unsure, my spouse said come on try the soup dumpling, I thought they were weird but omg I can’t seem to get enough now, I love them. It’s not fancy, just cheap and cheerful but delicious. I’ve been to many locations. And I love the cucumbers second best and everything else is yummy also, just depends on what you like to eat. 😁😋 They have something to please everyone.
This large restaurant is very efficient and organised. Upon arrival, you are given a number as well as a menu and a pen so you can start browsing the offerings. The numbers are then promptly called on a television screen above. We visited on a saturday evening around seven and waited less than 5 minutes to be seated. The menu is very extensive. We shared the pork soup dumplings (excellent and very flavorful), the shrimp and green squash soup dumplings (not our favorite, very mild in taste), sauteed choy sum, pan fried shrimp and pork dumplings (crispy and very tasty), as well as noodles with spicy and peanut sauce (great taste, good texture). Overall we paid 394 HKD so not the cheapest, but a good value for the quality and the level of service and comfort. Very good restaurant, would recommend.
The dumpling soup and noodle was really good. The price is reasonable and staff is pretty friendly. Because it is a one Michelin star place, expect to wait before being seated.
Is it worth the hype? Up to you. Is the food delicious? Absolutely. Expect packed lines but quick service and delicious delights. There is an open window where you can watch them making the famed xiao long bao. Everything is done incredibly well, and the secret to their success is consistency across restaurants. They measure the ingredients for the dumplings to the thousand of a gram!
Classic, quintessential, and most nostalgic. All my love for DTF dim sum! We waited maybe 20 min when it opened in a Saturday morning and agreed to be seated in a private meeting room at a shared table, which was slightly uncomfortable at first but worked out just fine as no one was loud. Worth it!
Excellent dim sum, the high ranking is well deserved. There is a bit of waiting time during busy hours like in the weekend, but they are well organized and the wait apparently does not exceed 15-20 minutes. The food is delicious and comes fast; some of the dishes have a thumbs up next to them in the menu, those are the must have, all the ones I tried were very good!
You really can’t go wrong with Din Tai Feng. It is always a crowd pleaser for almost all types of palates. The food at the Causeway branch is consistent with other branches I have eaten at around the world.Food: 5 starsService/environment: 3 starsValue: 4 starsRecommendations: Xiao long bao, chili oil dumplings, shrimp fried riceDim Tai feng is always in the conversation for best dumplings in a given city. Their chili oil dumplings in my opinion are the best I have ever had. The fried rice and xiao long bao are also near the top of the list for these items as well. The pricing is comparable to other international locations. Given how expensive eating out in Hong Kong is makes Din Tai Feng a good value relatively speaking. The restaurant interior is probably one of the worst that I have been to. The lighting is poor and the tables are too close together. The service at Din Tai Feng typically is quite good and I would say here is ok at best.
Did not disappoint. Great food and well worth the price. Going to try out Manila and LA locations if it holds the candle. Try to get in at 6ish for dinner to avoid the rush. Will come again next time in HK!
Fantastic chinese taiwanese dim sum and dumplings restaurant, probably the best dumplings ever had, very efficient, plenty of tables and warm ambience. Nice service (they find a place even if full or busy), you order indicating what you want writing on the menu. Part of a chain with presence in many other countries beside HK and Taiwan (Japan, USA, China, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Australia, UAE, Philippinesbut not yet Europe! Tried also another location in HK and was equally excellent.
Against my good judgement and intuition, I step into Din Tai Fung, thinking this may be the one branch that justifies the much hyped about Michelin star, putting the ones in malaysia to shame.Food is terribly mediocre. Nothing wrong with the food, but definitely not deserving any sort of star, Michelin or otherwise. The signature Xiao Long bao is just passable, with far far better examples in nondescript shops in Shanghai even in touristy places like nanjing road. As you can see from the 4th picture, the soup didnt really fill up the XLB as it should (like in their ads). The drunken chicken meat is stringy and dry, despite being drenched in shaoxing wine, which shows that it was overcooked, and the skin not as bouncy as youd expect of such a dish.Next, dessert - taro dumplings. Let me just say Ive had better taro dumplings at 7 eleven. For all this, I can only blame myself. The red flags were there, I ignored it: high ratings were only from foreigners and there were no locals in sight. Also they charge you 9 bucks for the mandatory tea.2 stars were given for their service, operational excellence, ambience and design (which is world classbut I cant give any more in good conscience.
Everything from the service and atmosphere to the endless choices of dim sum to choose from, Din Tai Fung has all the bases covered. We really enjoyed our meal here. So much so that we ordered a few additional choices to top us off. Service was impeccable and prices are reasonable for the quality and freshness of the food they offer. We certainly recommend that you check them out too!
鼎泰丰 have always deliver quality dishes no matter the various countrys outlet that you can visit. The dumplings at the HK outlet is excellent, fried rice was average as compared to the ones i had in Singapore, there is a dinning limit of 1hr 30mins which is sufficient to finish the dishes ordered but I do feel pressured to hurry although the staffs did not make you feel that way. Overall still a great dinning experience. Go before 6pm for dinner there is no queue, crowd start to pick up right after 6pm and restaurant was filled at about 6:30pm :)
Honestly, it’s so consistent and so delicious, if you want to have good dumplings with no surprises, this is the place. And the wait isn’t as long anymore, service is still decent for a local place, and it’s clean and the food comes out fast. Always a go-to place for xiaolongbaos
Very good dimsams, quality service. In the rush hour a lot of people and have to wait, but not for long. The meeting of guests and the queue system are organized very correctly, depending on the number of people in your company. Attached a photo with a brief description and web site address.
The food here was nice. Service was on point. People were right by the table ready to serve the food, take orders or collect plates. We had a little of everything. The food was good, nothing bad, nothing amazing. I recommend the steam cake, that was my favorite dish. The prices were normal for the area. Its a great place for groups and fast service. If youre in the area, stop by. If you have family or friends from the west, take them there.
