Landmark white-tablecloth restaurant with an old-school vibe for classic steaks & seafood dishes.
The atmosphere is old school, which we loved and brought back memories. The service is excellent and the food is everything I am looking for in a steakhouse. Great cocktails, solid wine list and outstanding steak. Diamond delivered on all three. I am accustomed to going to a steakhouse where the steak is almost $100 bucks with no sides and pretentious service. Our visit was refreshing, especially when the bill arrived (cash or check only). We had a great experience and will definitely go back when in Akron area.
This was our anniversary dinner. Havent been here for 20 years. But the waitress was superb, the food was terrific and our company that unexpectedly showed up was great Coolest anniversary ever
Best steaks ever! Service is superb!
Went for a family birthday celebration. Worst experience ever in a restaurant. How this place is so popular is a mystery.Shared a fish dinner with my spouse, the plates were served with 3 pieces of fish on them, and nothing else. Baked potatoes were on small saucers, no toppings given. Soda was served in cans, no glasses.Torn dirty carpet, filthy walls, crowded tables, servers barely spoke nor smiled. Fine dining? McDonalds is finer than this. Just awful.Bring cash, they dont take credit cards.
Fabulous birthday dinner with my father in law and our sons birthday! We had never been but Terry our server and crew were spot on! Family is everything and the staff made us feel welcome and special! Food was amazing with steaks that cut like butter and very fresh veggies! Will be back the next time we come to Akron!
I was excited to finally try it here....It was very pricey for what you got, I am not concerned about the cost just wish it would have matched the quality. Not a good quality cut of steak, extremely overcooked and had zero flavor, the basic baked potatoe was so tepid in temperature it would not even melt butter, all 6 of us had same thoughts on that? My daughters scallops were undercooked and the bacon was literally raw and not even warm? Great atmosphere and vibe in the place though! Id give the food a C- and teh place itself an A! Would not go back for the food, appetizers and drinks absolutely!
So disappointed. My friends have been talking about Diamond Grill for years. So for my wifes 60th BD dinner we chose Diamond Grill. There were six of us. Our server did a good job, she worked hard to keep us moving, but it took a long time to get our main meal and my son-in-laws $50 sirloin steak was very overcooked so he had to send it back (more delay). My grand-daughters scallops and bacon kabab was fishy and undercooked (actually had to send the bacon back to be cooked correctly if you can believe that). The shrimp cocktail was excellent and the oysters were too. My wifes filet was a B+. Bill was $485 for 6 before tip. Diamond Grille will definitely be a one-and-done for me and my son-in-law. What a bummer. We all had such high hopes
Food was out of this world. House dressing on the salad was good, shrimp cocktail was massive and the sauce was delicious, lots of horseradish. The Boston Strip was incredible cooked to perfection.I was able to sample the fillet and the long bone ribeye with the others I dined with, all were delicious but the strip was by far my favorite. This place is small but its very cozy, tables are a little close to each other but we didnt mind. Service was also fantastic. Will definitely return here again!
Over the years the Diamond Grill has been rated one of the best steakhouses in the US. Excellent food and wine list. They do not accept credit cards.
We have been going here for years & have never been disappointed. If you are a lobster fan, they have the best Ive ever had in Ohio.
A little price but great food. Had the blacken salmon and it was prepared perfectly.
If you want a classic and traditional first class dining experience, Diamond Grille is for you! I’ve never had a bad meal here, and the service is always the best! Whether it’s a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary, or even a simple date night, this is a great place to go! Reservations recommended, valet parking available, and they just repaved their parking lot. Our favorites are the long bone, the filet mignon, and the fried jumbo shrimp (but as an appetizer to share). P.S. Don’t forget your cash or check book; no credit cards accepted.
Top 4 steak all time. Great service. Owner is the best.
Best Steak Ive ever had!!! Great drink choices!!
Absolutely wonderful meal and fantastic service. Highly recommend.
Appetizer: kraut balls…very tasty 4/5Salads: Cobb and mixed greens salad. Garlic vinaigretteEntree 1: 18oz strip steak…5/5. Prepared medium well with just a little pepper and salt.Entree 2: stir-fry…3/5.Had a a very nice moscato wine and German Hefeweizen beer.Very good service, kind of a low light atmosphere. Very cool place!CASH ONLY
Diamond Grille is great steak house. We have been going here since the early 80s.
Great secret in akron. Old world dining experience. Love how plus everything is inside. Food was good, portions were generous
Best salmon and steak dinner tonight. Visiting from Minnesota and stopped in for dinner - fantastic meal.
Went there for lunch today. Definitely did not disappoint! I got the steak sandwich and salad. Loved it!!!
W. T. F. If that’s fine dining, y’all need to get out more. Felt like dinner in my grandmas basement, only hers was clean not covered in dust. Food was mediocre at best, definitely not worth the price. Everything was over cooked. Salad was a joke served on a hot plate. Service was just weird, from the hostess to the waitress. I don’t get what the fuss is about, I would never go back. Akron has good quality restaurants literally around the corner.
This place is a total gem! Katie, the new owner, has done an amazing job revitalizing the restaurant. The food is OUTSTANDING and the wait staff is on point. We cant wait to go back!
Best steak I’ve ever had. Seriously. This place lives up to its name.
Fake fine dining experience. Overpriced. Staff treated us like we were aliens when we asked for a table. Server was annoyed when we ordered two lower priced items after my drink order, asking us “Is that it?” Drink I ordered tasted watered down and bad. Left after two sips of that and uninviting atmosphere. Went to grocery store and spent $80 on food bc I can prepare their lame menu at home for cheaper. Place deserves to be Gordon Ramsay’d. Also: Pointless valet parking in a tiny gravel parking lot. Do not waste time or money unless you like wasting both
Excellent service and food. We have been here on a few occasions and have always been impressed. Cash only, no credit cards and reservations are a must. Steak and seafood is hands down the best in Akron
Wonderful restaurant, the food is amazing and more than worth the price. The wine is good. The people are really nice and will help you with anything you need. We celebrate my husbands birthday there and could eat our own cake that we brought. Really fantastic.
A mature restaurant, like Diamond Grille feels uncomplicated and easy to be with. The service is as competent and natural as any expert should be. The atmosphere isn’t pretentious but it’s subtle, elegant and well appointed. The timing was always perfect the menu focused on classic entrees and cocktails and our meals were delicious.
Diamond Grille receives 2 stars and this is only because the food was average. Part of fine dining is the customer experience. We had an extremely rude waitress whom I would be appalled to have represent my fine dining establishment. Upon arrival the parking lot was extremely muddy and unpaved, so wear muck boots not heels. The environment and establishment are just outdated.
Walked in, asked to sit at the bar at 9:02 pm. Manager looked at me like I was funny or was lost? Said they werent serving food. Hours listed said 10pm. Plenty of diners still in the restaurant. All we wanted was a bottle of wine and 2 steaks. Will tell hotel they made a horrible recommendation. Never have I been made to feel like so horrible for wanting to pattionize a restaurant. Place is pure trash.
We had yet a great dinner at The Diamond Grille. The food is the BEST and the service is always awesome. The owner greets you and later comes over to the table to see if everything is going ok. What a special restaurant.Truly an iconic place to eat in beautiful Akron.Very comfortable environment indeed!Billy and Beth Cardina
We had the perfect dining experience last night thanks to Sarah (server)and Katie (owner). They are committed to customer satisfaction. The service and food were amazing! They expect perfection in their product and any little deviation does not get passed on to the customer. That is a value that is hard to come by these days! We will definitely go back!
I expected a more high end experience, especially given the prices. None of the food came out hot. French onion soup was leukwarm and extremely salty! Rice was cold & tasted like a frozen steam bag of rice. Salad dressing was good. The steak was tender but once again not hot, the onions on top were cold as if they came from a refrigerator. ordered medium rare and got medium well. We were there for two hours for lunch….not to mention we got traded off to another server mid meal…which is not a big deal. We figured it was a shift change…no, apparently our initial server was sick & throwing up all morning at work. “Food poisoning”, that may be the case but given the times, how about we let our FOOD workers stay home if they’re puking? Safe to say our appetites were spoiled after hearing that. I feel like this place has a good old-school reputation but I would rather eat at Texas Roadhouse. Hate to say that about a small business but honestly! We were also the only table in the place at the time. They were out of 40% of their menu items, but this is par for the times. Just overall not somewhere I would return.
My first meal in the Diamond Grille was in 1964 and I loved it. Every filet Ive had since then Ive compared to that delicious dinner. And none has. Dining there this past week reminded me of just how special this restaurant is.Aged beef, lobster, or fresh fish, you wont be disappointed.
This was just ok. For years I have heard people talk about how awesome this place is to eat. This was my first and last time. The service was blah, our food took a very long time to come out. There were no apologies, no customers. When we asked about our food they just brought out or side dishes and then or entrees shortly after. I had the scallops and I was disappointed because the did not have very much flavor. They have me a child size cup of rice pilaf. The atmosphere is not very appealing. I know this place has been around a very long time but it doesnt have to look that way. Just a very underwhelming experience. It wasnt bad bad but really really just ok and pricey. Ok does not cut it for these prices.
We didnt know you needed reservations but they did accommodateDefinitely wasnt expecting the bill it was a shocker $225. Never spent that much anywhere not in New York. Canada, or in Orlando flordia. The Steak was cooked a little to much but the food was good but the prices was way over the Top..
Everyone in our party of five echoed the praises of the great food, atmosphere and attentive staff! My party consisted of 3 graduates form Walsh University including myself, Karl Schwenk and Vice President Dr. Michael Dunphy. (I also graduated from St VMwhich is why we went to the Diamond as the new owner, Katie (HammondStack is both a St VM and Walsh University (2011Alumnus. Katie and her journey to the Diamond Grille was featured in the Walsh Times 2020 Winter Issue. I can attest that the filet is the best I have eaten anywhere! Definitely, get the willie fries and the lemon tart for dessert is the way to go. Our server, Lynette (also a Walsh University graduate!was attentive and had a wonderful, engaging smile and a great spirit which helped make the evening. Definitely remains true to the reputation of the legendary Diamond Grille; an Akron Ohio landmark since 1935- step back in time and experience the preserved legacy of the original Diamond Grille with a modern flare of culinary excellence!
First time here and absolutely loved it! Quiet atmosphere with a home like feel. Started out with the shrimp cocktail which was delicious, the shrimp were huge and the sauce was first class. I ordered the prime rib, which was special for the night, and it did not disappoint! The fresh horseradish was an added touch that sent it over the top! Will most definitely be back!
The food was excellent and priced accordingly. I had the 14 oz Boston Strip and my wife had the Salmon, which she chose to have it grilled. The home fries were excellent. The staff was friendly and prompt. We found our time there very enjoyable. The valet is set up near the entrance. This made finding the entrance easy. We cant wait to go back there again.
I wanted to able to write a 5 star review but I cant. DG has a long history in Akron for its steaks, unchanging decor and cash only policy. Generations of families have dined there but I think thats its only appeal. Its a pleasant recollection tucked away to remind you of days gone by. The service was diner like, no wine or cocktail list was offered. A quick Hi! What can I get ya???! We asked for a drinks menu and had lovely cocktails, a sidecar and old fashioned both were prepared well but were promptly rushed to order appetizers, I had shrimp my husband had stuffed peppers both were good. Our plates were cleared and entree orders taken and the steaks came out lickity split! We had to ask for silverware and for the wine list to chose a wine for our entree. The onion rings my husband ordered smelled and tasted like dirty grease from a dive bar? Honestly. He couldnt eat them and hell eat nearly any onion ring. The mushrooms I ordered were straight from a can. The famed willey fries were nothing more than stale shoestring fries that had stuck together forming what looked like a popsicle stick raft and tasting like one too. The impression is that its resting on its laurels, very old laurels with grease traps in desperate need of cleaning and staff in need of training. We still left an 18% tip but it wasnt earned. We most definitely wont be back. Do better Diamond Grill.
Great place, had one of the best steaks ever here. Of course, it was a fillet but the sear on the outside was superb, giving the steak a perfect crust. Inside was spot on medium rare. Delicious.
Wonderful old-school steakhouse rich with tradition and flavor. Excellent service, drinks, food, and atmosphere. Well worth the trip!
Best meal Ive had in a while. Simple. Delicious. Dont skip the home fries:)
Hadnt dined here n many ears and looked forward to the experience of a great meal but sorely disappointed. We shared the large cut of Boston strip which had good taste but very poor quality....gristle and sinew. The carrot cake was tasty but way too dense. However, the onion soup was the best we had in a long time. Our server was very pleasant..This restaurant is very popular with many returning regulars but perhaps there arent many fine dining choices in the area. This place is way past its prime with cash only policy, shabby interior, sub par washrooms, convoluted parkingand over priced steak .
Went on a Friday evening for our anniversary. We had complimentary valet and went in a side door. When you walk in it sets you back a few years. The restaurant has been there for quite a few years. Lots of wood and med century decor. We were sat in a corner table. Our waitress was very friendly and outspoken. She recommended the filet and Boston strip but also didnt recommend the rice pilaf. We got the shrimp appetizer, it was delicious. They were large butterfly shrimp and the cocktail sauce had a good kick of horseradish. I did go with the filet, cooked medium and the hubby got the boston strip steak medium rare. They had a charcoal flavor and they were cooked perfectly. We also got the house salad and house dressing. It was the best house salad Ive had in a long time. Would definitely recommend here for an evening out. Make sure to remember to bring cash though, no credit cards are accepted.
What an amazing evening. From the moment we were greeted by complimentary valet to walking in the door, I could feel the warmth and care of the staff. We were seated in a gorgeous dining room with vintage wallpaper, beautiful woodwork, and Sputnik lights. The hostess gave us a little history of this Akron Institution and a wonderful wine list to begin. Our server, Mona, was impeccable. She made thoughtful suggestions (as it was our first timeof what not to miss! We all enjoyed our expertly prepared steaks, amazing sides (the mushrooms! the broccoli!and delightful desserts. Everything is prepared from scratch, and it shows. It is such a pleasure to dine somewhere with pride and commitment to serving real authentic whole food selections. Additionally, as someone with gluten sensitivity, this restaurant was nothing less than spectacular! They went our of their way to make recommendations and there were more options than I could have imagined! Thank you for a wonderful evening Diamond Grille!
The atmosphere was perfect here. Soft lighting, candles, and the music the perfect volume for food conversations and pleasant background. The for was good, but the prices quite high. Definitely a steak house, not many other options and heavy buttery sides.
An AKRON iconic restaurant. The steak and scallops were off the charts. Relaxing atmosphere, parking in the back and we entered in the back door. Cash only FYI. Cheers! #pintsforksfriends
Food and service were superb! Timing on bringing everything out is perfect! You must make reservations. Definitely worth the price you will pay.
Really good, fresh beef. Didnt have any of the fish but I heard it was great. Really kind waitresses, food gets done quick. Only problem is the price, most things wont even be under 35$.
The service was awesome. Staff is very friendly. The porterhouse was a great size, but lacked flavor. Old style setting made it cozy and comforting. Desert was the michigan pot hole ice cream, and it was awesome. A bit on the pricy side but ill be going back again to see if theres anything else on the menu that tastes better.
