American fare & classic cocktails served in a warm, Old West-style setting in the Strater Hotel.
Horrible food and service. Biscuits were inedible, hard as rocks, the gravy had not been cooked and tasted like raw flour. Henry omlette just ok. Ordered 2 coffees, but they ran out and only brought one. The second came at the end if the meal. Got zero refills and were still charged full price for both. We returned the biscuits and gravy hardly touched but nobody wondered or cared. In addition it took ages for the horrible food to come out. There are better places. Not the cleanest either. Avoid.
Wow, I love this place so nostalgic of the the old west. The burgers and roast beef ,and everything is so good. Every time I go to Durango I make sure to eat here. I tell all my friends to eat at the Diamond Belle Saloon. After a mountain bike adventure it hits the spot.
LOOOOOVED this place! Such a fun time making you feel like you’re back in the day of an old saloon. Our service was wonderful and attentive and food- let me just say- the chicken friend steak- YUMMY!! I live in Texas and live some CFS. Highly recommend. The piano player was very entertaining and knew a lot of great songs. My old fashion drink was good and stout. We will be back for sure!
We came here because of the Google reviews. It makes me a believer that Google reviews can be bought. It was the worst food experience we have ever had, minus the salad. The salad was great. I ordered the Main Street Pot Roast for $22, my husband ordered the Country Fried Steak for $29. The salads were an additional $10 each. I asked the waitress which she recommended, the Pot Roast or the Chicken and Dumplings with house made dumplings. She quickly recommended the pot roast. When the food arrived, the pot roast was served in a large soup bowl, in a deep slurry or broth with vegetables that had been cooked so long that they had lost all flavor and barely held their original form. If I didn’t know what was supposed to be served, I would have thought it was a soup, there was so much broth. Let’s talk about the roast, or lack there of. I honestly think they threw in chipped beef, maybe an ounce of it, maybe, that’s it and it was mostly in tiny chunks about the size of a pea, I could not find much meat, at all. Then there were the secret mashed potatoes, hidden at the bottom of the broth, never to be found, unless you accidentally scraped the bottom on the bowl. They tasted funny, most likely powdered not fresh. My husband meal was the country fried steak, which looked and tasted like a low cost TV Dinner. Nothing here is made fresh. The veggies were from a frozen bag, the fried steak appeared to be microwaved or set in a toaster oven and the brown gravy tasted like salty McCormicks not made well, and you already know about the weird tasting mashed potatoes. One of the employees walked up to us with what seemed to be purpose and asked pensively how the food was. He knew, he knew it wasn’t good. Before I said anything he was already making comments regarding the meat in the pot roast and that the potatoes weren’t the best. I was so grossed out, I couldn’t help but be very honest and I told him the food was awful. It was awful, even the butter roll had a slight funk taste to it. So, in all, the ice water was good (good luck on refillsand the salad was good. The employee that came by, at least, waived the secret stew I was served. I didn’t press for him to waive my husbands meal. He ate his steak, because he was starved, that was the only reason. We had hiked all day with very little to eat, he would have eaten cardboard. I was going for good food in a cool environment. My recommendation, skip it. Chef Ramsey would have closed that kitchen. The tab, even after the waived meal was $63.
This is a bar in the Strater hotel in Durango, CO.Were dont do bars much but we really enjoyed this! Its a beautiful place, circa mid 1800s, good bartenders, great selection... just a lot of fun. They have an upright piano in the middle of the room and a pianist thats just incredible! We had a great time hanging out, sipping a cocktail and taking in the music and decor.Really enjoyed it!
I regret visiting this place. Nobody seats you, so you just stand there until you can catch someone to tell you to seat yourself. It took them almost 40 minutes to serve our food which was subpar, especially for the price. Everything was like in a cheap diner.Appetizers arrived 10 minutes after the main course and neither of us wanted them already. Was not tasty anyway. The interior is a cheap gowdy but its the best part of this experience. Music was also nice.I do not recommend this place overall. It doesnt worth the expenses and waiting.
We stopped by on a Saturday evening and the place was pretty busy. The draw here is the atmosphere which is enhanced by the waitresses wearing the old style dresses. Unfortunately our service was poor, it took 40 minutes to get our drinks. Our waitress stated the bar didnt get the ticket for the drinks, and she forgot. Go for the atmosphere, not the service.
Bellied up at the bar for a beverage. Natasha was very busy and engaging. The Pianist was fun. It was just a bit too loud for the small area.
Had a terrible waitress no personality.Food was good expensive small portionsMust check out the hotel if you eat there
5 stars for the experience3 stars for the foodThe piano player made the experience. The food was just ok nothing too special but was decent. I think the price for what you received was ridiculous. The wait staff was dressed in 1920s attire which was cool to see. Worth a stop but dont set your expectations too high.
Food was really good and the service was great. Felt sorry for the servers, seemed like they worked hard and treated poorly. Will go back again, prices were fair.
Five stars for the piano player. Food was good, but nothing that would have merited five stars. Cocktails were decent. The piano player made the evening a success.
Diamond Bell never disappoints. An amazing piano player who plays all of the Ragtime tunes of the day. Very impressive Talent. The food was extremely good and I would definitely return
I have eaten Chicken Fried Steak all over the US and I say the Diamond Belle Saloon has the best in the US. OMG Its on the best Ive ever eaten list. The atmosphere is excellent with you walking back in time into the mining era of Durango. Staff is dressed in period clothing. The food is excellent along with the service. No wait to be seated and food was quick to come out.
Neat experience with a live piano playing. Customer service was great! Seated pretty quickly. The food was phenomenal. Chicken fried steak was cooked to perfection. Pot roast was placed over mashed potatos. Bourbon mix drink options were also great! Its a little tight for seating though.
Such a gem! Unlike anything youve ever experienced!
What a great place! Step back in time here in a saloon dating back to late 1880s! Historical interior complete with early 1900 upright piano that sounds magnificent, especially if you are lucky enough to be there on an evening when 4 time World Champion, Old-Time Piano Player Adam Swanson is doing his magic on the keys! What a treat! WOW.
Great atmosphere and the burger and cheese steak were really good. Sat Im the balcony and enjoyed the live piano.
778worldtravelerWaterford, WisconsinLively AtmosphereWe thoroughly enjoyed having dinner here one early evening with prompt service by a lovely server dressed in a typical Old West saloon outfit. We were entertained by a top notch ragtime piano player that set the tone for the authentic saloon atmosphere. The food was good and prices were reasonable for a touristy area. Would recommend to all looking for a true Western night out.
Such a fun atmosphere, and decent priced food with vegetarian options. Loved the strong saloon theme, and the live piano playing.
The experience with the old timey saloon was good but the food needs some serious work. The chicken fried steak is a frozen processed patty that was heated up. The vegetable medley was not cooked enough (hard vegetablesand only had Brussel sprouts in it. It did not have any zucchini, carrots or anything else like what was served to my wife. (It was not consistent The macaroni and cheese that my son had was a soupy ball of cheese with macaroni. The pot roast is like beef stew with not enough vegetables and only had one small potato in it and a cold roll. My wife had the pork porterhouse which was the only thing that tasted good. I would not recommend this place at all.
I came with 8 others at 3:15, waited for some tables which makes sense as it was a large party in a small place and were served at 4:30.Now keep in mind, I’ve been here 15-20 times with my family and am always satisfied. This time was particularly disappointing. I ordered chicken and dumplings. There were three pieces of pressed chicken cubes (1/2” by 1/2” by 1/2”and four cold dumplings the size of a (generouspat of butter; for $20.I am looking forward to my actual dinner and it’s unlikely I’ll bring my family next time we are in town.
I ordered the porterhouse with rice and assorted vegetables. The chop came out dry to the bone, the rice was completely raw along with the vegetables. DO NOT eat here you WILL regret it!!!
So much fun! Good food! Great entertainment!!
Great chicken fried steak and entertainment! We expected a longer wait but was able to get sitted within a few minutes. Staff was very friendly all smiles.
The Diamond Belle Saloon is located inside the Strater Hotel in downtown Durango and follows the same old-west style and general theme. Everything has a reasonably good authentic feeling, in particular with the intentionally dated interior and design. Narrow staircases, live piano playing old tunes (when the waitresss phone isnt playing music), and all of the related decore you can imagine. The food was also pretty good, certainly above average. Even the turkey club sandwich I had was very tasty. It was a very large serving, with buttered toast, fresh ingredients, etc. If anything, it was a bit greasy, making it probably the least healthy sandwich Ive had in a while. The salad, fries, and everything else were pretty good. Although Id say on-par with the price paid. The service was average but perfectly acceptable. And of course, the waitresses were also dressed to match the old-west theme.Overall, worth a visit when in the area, but they do get busy quite easily in this relatively small and often crowded restaurant. And since its downtown, parking is limited to public parking unless you are staying at the hotel.
Our group of 12 decided to fine at this restaurant. On Monday June 27, 2022 we arrived at 11:30 when you open and since you dont take reservations we thought that if we got there we would be able to get waited on quickly so some of us could be at the airport on time. WELL not true. So when all of our party arrived and we were ready to order there was not a waitress that would take it our order. A large party and small party arrived after is and they were seated served drinks and their orders taken immediately and they were served their food. We asked after about an hour or so if someone could take our order. We were informed that it would be at least another hour before we could place our order. We had to eat elsewhere. Heard from other businesses that this place is having ownership problems. Wont go back and will.not recommend.the place to.anyone. All comments will be NEGATIVE!!. So sad.. Vickie A
Cool saloon in historic Statler Hotel! Servers in period costumes and a honky tonk pianist make you feel like youve gone back in time. And the food is really good too! Crispy salmon with tasty wild rice and fresh sautéed vegetables, and tender country fried steak with buttery mashed potatoes and fresh veggies! All delicious! An enjoyable experience and memorable evening!
Great salads, drinks, and piano player. Fun historical stop. Walk through the lobby for more history.
In the short time we sat here (long enough to enjoy their tasty Bloody Marys), the place did a great job of taking us back to the Old West. You really need to experience this in person. We were there in the afternoon so not much excitement, but probably a very electric atmosphere at night.
Brit was FANTASTIC!!!! Very attentive, entertaining, energetic and provided a great experience for us! The food and drinks were excellent. The bar and adjoining hotel lobby area are beautiful! Go here!🤙
Diamond Belle captures the spirit of the west. Great history. The food is wholesome and priced fairly. Live music was great! Highly recommended stop when in Durango
We had dinner at the bar and were given top notch service. Miss Saige and Jake were friendly and attentive. Jack and Larry, the cover band were killing it, especially when they played some Jimmy Hendricks. This isnt just a tourist bar, its great for locals, too. Some of the best food on our Silverton/Durango trip.
The whole place is an old west saloon. In the summer, theres a piano man. Located in the best building in Durango, The Strater Hotel. Best waitresses in town as well. Good service. Highly recommend the chicken tenders and Idaho fries with cheese and bacon.
Really neat atmosphere and history. They even had live entertainment on a Tuesday night. The staff was nice and food came out quick. It was a decent portion, just think the prices are a little high for what you get, mostly in the spirits category. But I also understand Im paying for an experience. Im sad we didnt have time to tour the hotel. A friend told me tours are free. I got an Old Fashioned and the pork porterhouse. Was a little surprised/bummed to see they didnt have steaks on the menu. But definitely go check it out.
Great food, even though they were out of a few menu items. Salads were big enough to share. The live music was really great and added to the atmosphere. Would definitely suggest going here as it was touristy (in a good way), fun, and cheaper than most of the other choices.
Love, Love, Love this place! The history is imbedded into everything you see here. Such a great place to visit. Its basically an experience more than anything else. Theyve done such a great job capturing the spirit of the old west by restoring everything back to its former beauty. One of the coolest places weve ever stayed! You can feel the history and your imagination just runs thinking about all the people that could have walked through that door. Its connected to The Strater Hotel which continues the theme throughout the entire place. Weve stayed all over the country and this is definitely amongst the top of the list.
We had such a great dinner experience that we came back the following night! Diamond Belle Saloon is truly a diamond! The atmosphere was very lively and the staff was friendly our bartender was spot on with his service. The women servers wore period costumes and looked really pretty. The band that played our first night was so good and the pianist our second night was such an accomplished entertainer. The food was really good, I had the Yew York strip the first night, the second night Cobb salad with the grilled Salmon. Very tasty. If youre in the Durango area and looking for good food ,great atmosphere and entertainment then Diamond Belle is the place for you!
This is one of the coolest bars weve ever been to. Felt like we time traveled back to the old western days. The bar tender and waitresses were dressed in period appropriate outfits. The ceiling was high, the wall paper and carpets seemed original (but very clean), the wood work around the bar was unbelievable. If youre visiting Durango, you have to stop in and have a drink at this bar.
Once we got past sarcastic (and not too smarthostess, we had a great experience. Our server was friendly, efficient and all decked out in attire for the time period. Food and drinks were good and 2 man band provided good entertainment. We felt like we were part of the late 1800s time period with the authentic decor throughout the bar/restaurant area. Parking was easy to find on the street and was only $1/hour until 6 pm and then after that no charge or time limit. I visited with my handicapped mother and she was able to easily navigate through the restaurant with her walker. She didnt use the restroom but if needed, she would have had to take a few stairs to the nearby hotel lobby.
The Diamond Belle is a unique spot, in the Strater Hotel. Good food with a bit of history.
Well worth the wait. What a fantastic atmosphere. Youve got the live ragtime pianist, my favorite song he played that evening was "Blue Skies" and he did an excellent job. Everyones costumes/uniforms were adorable and fit the atmosphere. Its the cutest saloon and one that simply charms you. Our waitress was very friendly and although it was very busy and obviously understaffed, we were very well taken care of. The food was delicious and in reasonable portions. However, my favorite thing was the dessert. The key lime pie, chocolate ice cream cake, and creme brulee were all amazing.
Great restaurant with the old Durango setting and a great menu to compliment. Sally took care of our table with fantastic service, the bar tender was lively and personable. At 5:30 the world champion piano player kicked some old time tunes and was awesome! Oh, save room for sweets- bread pudding and Key Lime pie were so worth it!!
Great little bar restaurant that is on the corner and attached to the Strater Hotel. 1890s period theme and they do it well. Ragtime piano player Adam Swanson was playing and he is a good entertainer- local talent but has played all over the world - don’t miss him if he is there.Several local beers on tap, full bar.
We stopped in here for dinner while staying at the Strater Hotel in May 2021. The saloon has a great atmosphere and you really feel like youre stepping into the Old West. There was a ragtime piano player that evening which began at 5:30pm. For a saloon, there was a decent amount of seating on two floors and service was good. Food and drinks were also good (I had the chicken pot pie). Even if youre not looking to eat, Id definitely recommend a stop in at the bar for a drink. We will surely visit again during our next trip to Durango.
Very welcoming atmosphere. Great staff. Food was excellent, especially the chicken pot pie. Menu felt a little all over the place, would be nice to match menu with the ambiance.
What an awesome experience! Super friendly staff, great appetizers (fried calamari and shrimp cocktail), excellent bloody marys, and fantastic atmosphere. The piano is from 1902 I think it was? There are no actual saloon doors, but the entertainment made up for that. Highly recommend visiting when Adam Swanson is playing!!
Wow!!! This place is excellent! The food, the service, the entertainment!!!! 5 stars! It’s been there a long time so it has character!!! 😍the piano player has been playing there for 14 years!! He is amazing!!! If you go, you should tip him!!!
Love the atmosphere, service and food is awsehum. The decor is like a step back into time and the piano player makes it all worth wild. Love this place.
The food was very delicious here. I shared a NY strip and added a large salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing. There was live music which I really enjoyed and it does have a saloon feel with the bartender and servers dressed up. The only reason I gave this restaurant a 4 star is because the service was slow. We sat in the balcony and did enjoy the experience overall.
