Dhauli Shanti Stupa in Padampur

The Dhauli Shanti Stupa is built on the spot where King Ashoka converted to Buddhism centuries ago. It has lovely views and it is worth climbing the many stairs to see them. The friezes tell the story of Buddhas life. A nice spot to visit, can be busy at times.

Dhauli is located on the banks of the river Daya, it’s known for "Dhauli Santi Stupa"a piece pagoda Monument made by Ruler Ashoka Samrat a king who conquered Kalinga and repented the great loss of lives and embraced Buddhism. after realizing his mistake he changed his aim of life. it’s a witness of the great deadliest Kalinga war in the Indian history.

One of the best historic places to visit and spend some time for a peaceful life surrounded by forests and river. It is also known as Peace pagoda and constructed at the top of dhauli hill and very close to Daya nadi( Daya river). Only 10km away from Bhubaneswar city.It has four big statue of Lord Buddha in different postures.You can also see Dhabaleswar Mahadev behind the santi stupa.

On our trip, private vehicles were not allowed(even after paying 40/- for entrydue to restriction for CM visit and it costed us 400(2 autosagain for a 7min drive around. Exorbitant or planned looting you call it !

Peaceful place of God Budhha at hill top. Attached to God Sivas temple. There are nice places to sit peacefully below the hill beside the river.

Shanti stupa is a Buddhist Peace Pagoda and is the main attraction for people who believe in Lord Buddha. Its a very good tourist places to visit.. personally I loved it.

Historical significance. Odisha govt is working on this place. There is temple and yes beware of priests taking you for a ride... Which is true in most of the turist places. No different

A little hill climbing experience with a magnificent view of Bhubaneswar city, at the top . A Calm statue of Buddhadeb and a shiv linga

Very good place to visit with family or friends.You feel the nature ,also you enjoy the top view of surrounding.If you going with car its charged for parking.

Peace Pagoda is Magnificent. You can see River Daya from Its surroundings, on which bank Famous Kalinga War was Fought. Its good to see maintenance work is done by Govt. Great place to visit on Weekends with your family.

Today , as of 12 sep - 2022. It is closed due to maintenance work. They did not allow to go upstairs. The look from top is a beauty - that we missed. There is no light and sound show as well. But, the worst part is - we found no proper information anywhere about its closure. Also, no date on its reopening.. Not expected from such an historical site. Visitors should be communicated properly.

There are 2 entry points to this1. The main entrance that takes you directly to the stupa. Work is going on as I am writing this review.2. The back side which takes you via a temple. - you will have to walk barefoot with this option. This side also offers a good view into the city for selfies.3. Other areas include a small park with statues4. Ashoka stambh area.

Build on a hill near Daya river where fierce war between Magadh and Kalinga was fought and after seeing the effect of war Ashoka became a Buddhist monk.The stupa is currently under renovation so may skip for now till its renovation completes.

Normally, there would not be any review of the peace pagoda. It is created as a symbol of harmony and community. However, I thought the experience could have been better. With the ugly scaffolding, the pagoda was looking caged. They could have simply stopped tourist flow.

Dhauli is located about to 11km from Bhubaneswar Railway station, 16km from Bhubaneswar ISBT Bus station.In the year 272 B.C. the great Maurya dynastys legendary king "Ashoka the Great" looked down from over the vast expanse of the battle field of Kalinga (now the area around Dhaulilittered with bodies after a fierce battle. Even after a well-fought victory, the sight of the aftermath of the war, death and destruction horrified him and resulted in Ashokas transformation.He channeled his energy, which he spent earlier in winning wars and conquering, in spiritual pursuit. He became a Buddhist and started following Buddha’s teachings and austere ways of leading life. All the destruction made him think about the ephemeral nature of all earthly things and the utter uselessness of running after the earthly possessions which cease after death.He also pondered about the usefulness of wars which brings in its wake nothing but death, destruction and misery to mankind. So, what was its use or merit-none. It was due to this awakening that Ashoka, the Great Warrior, became a follower of Buddhism and spent the rest of life spreading the teachings of Buddha far and wide in Orrisa, India and beyond.Carvings of the head and forelegs of an elephant emerging from the rock mark the spot where the change of heart and transformation of Ashoka occurred. It is said to be the oldest rock cut sculpture in India (3rd century B.C.). This image is symbolic and it symbolizes the birth of Buddha (the enlightenedand the emergence of Buddhism.The rock edicts at the bottom hill (and the other at Jau Gada), dating from 260 B.C., suggest that the conquered area may have had two administrative headquarters. On these rock edicts, instructions to his administrators how to rule his subjects are carved on stones which are as follows—“You are in charge of many (thousand living beings). You should gain the affection of men. All men are my children, and as I desire for my children that they obtain welfare and happiness both in this world and the other world, the same do I desire for all men..."These edicts shed much light on the miraculous transformation of a Great King from a ruthlessly ambitious warrior to a benevolent and highly evolved soul dedicating his later life to Buddhist way of life. These inscriptions on these rocks are remarkably clear even after 2000 years.

Very beautiful place. The place where kalinga war was fought can be seen from here. It takes you back to the history of Emperor Ashoka. It is said that Ashoka built it after the kalinga war when he converted into Buddhism. Really a beautiful and peaceful place. Must visit.

You can make a quick stop at Dhauli Shanti Stupa, It was under maintenance yesterday (25July2022). Its a peaceful place to sit and relax. You can enjoy cucumber, star fruit, sugarcane juice at small shops nearby.Paid parking, Enough parking space.

Here, one finds the edict of Lord Budddha which is visited by numerous Buddhist devotees.

Its a amazing place but unfortunately its glory timely decrease after 8 year Im visiting this place its scene as like as before nothing any changes so its my humble request to Givt of Odisha to look at the glory...no doubt its amazing place

The Dhauli Shanti Stupa has four massive idols of Lord Buddha in various postures along with episodes from Gautam Buddhas life carved on stone slabs. Just behind the Stupa stands a Shiva temple. Other major attractions of Dhauli Hills are the various rock edicts, which are a living testimony of emperor Ashoka’s change of heart. Historians say Ashoka wrote ‘welfare of the whole world’ in Kalinga Edict VI, depicting his concern about mankind. A rock-cut elephant located above the edicts is considered to be one of the oldest Buddhist sculptures in the State. The Dhauli Hills also provide a birds eye view of the entire area, lush green agricultural lands and the river Daya. The heritage site is approachable from Bhubaneswar by buses and taxis.

Must visit Place in Bhubaneshwar. If your planning for 1 day trip to Bhubaneshwar, Then Dhauli should be in your check list. Not very far from the city center, its just 5-6 KM from city centre. You will get to see a very nice and scenic view from the top of Dhauli Stup. Daya river can be seen as well. You will get some nice Sugar cane juice and other shopping experience like small idol of Lord. Gautam Budhha.

I have been to this place many times since I was a kid. I recently took my husband and baby to go see it again. Was very disappointed to see the bad state the structure is in. Though I am hopefully as some renovation work seemed to be undergoing, and hopefully it will be transformed soon.P.S. The shop selling cashews was great, specially the salted type.

Peaceful place to spend time, currently there is reconstruction going on due to fall of debris. But still very interesting place to explore there is also a Japanese temple which follows Japanese rituals during prayers which depicts how different nations have practice to follow..

Nice place currently under construction or else you all couldve visited this place more closely where there are different monuments of Goutam Buddha, great place must visit....

It is under renovation and not accessible to the public still a grate place to spent quality time... The stupa is located 5 6km away from the puri bbsr highway and around 15km away from bbsr railway station..The stupa having grate surrounding space and river flow near to it. As it is located on the top of small hill so gives a grate view of the surrounding place. Along with the stupa there is a temple which located next to it and some other statue and garden are there which is not well maintain at all.

Its a place of historical significance. But going there, what I found is a structure under repair. Hope the repair work is done fast so that we can get something to see there. But the natural beauty of the place is enchanting

One of the best place for tourism specially for Buddhism person. Great architecture Marvel but now its most of the part are restricted due to ongoing construction work. However dont forget to take a glimpse of rock cut garden and sunset view point of you had a visit.

Beautiful shiv temple at the top of a small mountain... wonderful view of the whole city underneath.. But be careful when you enter the temple... The priests try to trick you into giving a large amount of money for puja..The stupa is under maintenance and not open for public viewing right now

This place has an awesome historical value but Im gonna share some genuine review today.Pros:1. Awesome top view from the peak,you can even see the whole city from there .2. Good historic value.Cons:1. Stay away from pandas on that place as theyll force you to give Puja on the Shiva temple just before Dhauligiri.2. Dhauligiri is under reconstruction for a very long time so its not a good spot to click photos anymore for click addicts.3. Dont buy anything from that place as its overpriced.

So beautiful and serene. The place where Kalinga war was fought can be seen from up here. The building is beautiful and the wind up here is relaxing. The photos also come really nice. It is said Ashoka built it after the Kalinga war when he converted to Buddhism to repent for all the violence. Again, really beautiful, must visit.

The history of the great Ashoka.Very calm place but currently in maintenance. So, we were not able to go up the temple.The view from upwards is magnificent

Dhauli Shanti Stupa also known as Dhauligiri is one of the oldest rock cut sculpture in Odisha, India. It was constructed in 3rd century BC. It’s located on the bank of Daya river. It’s about 8km approx from Bhubaneswar. Also this place is well known for its famous rock edicts of Ashoka. In the year of 272 BC, Ashoka laid eyes on the battlefield which was covered with bodies after the brutal Kalinga War. Also it’s symbolises the birth of Buddha.

Its a good spot ! You have to walk for about 5 mins (depending on your walking speedto get to the main structure.

This temple says the history of Lord Buddha, emperor Ashoka and kalinga. The top of the temple city view looks beautiful. Left side river view... Amazing place...The place is very quiet and well maintained. Not much crowed... We went here while going to puri...Back side of this one Shiva temple also is there. Dont miss that place while going here... Its looks beautiful and peaceful...Parking facilities available... The stupa is in good condition. It requires painting work. Well maintained no littered. Garbage disposals are there. Some people spit out pan, which is bad.The temple is well maintained and clean. You can feel relaxed.

A peaceful place on a hill. It has history going back to Emperor Ashok. He put down his armour and arms here and embraced the path of love and peace shown by Buddh. Its a beautiful place.

Carries very close resemblance to Dodda Betta, Ooty.Clean enough and a calm place ofcourse.The view of City from top is amazing. Try to visit during least crowded hours.

Its has got great importance in history but not maintained like any other monuments. Infested with unruly tourists who forget to show basic respect.

Its a good place to visit filled with culture and heritage. Its sad that people aka tourists were more interest in selfies with lord Budha instead of actually reading and understanding the history. The view from top is quite nice

Dhauli or Dhauligiri is a hill located on the banks of the river Daya, 8 km south of Bhubaneswar in Odisha. Its know for "Dhauli Santi Stupa", a peace pagoda monument which witnesses the great Kalinga War built by Japan Budhha Sangha and Kalinga Nippon Budhha Sangha.

Good historic place to visit in Odisha. I would recommend you to go around afternoon to evening time to enjoy its mesmerizing beauty and to get a lot of good photos.

Relatively new addition to the collection of Buddhism related historical places around Bhubaneswar. Not worth a trip out to see this alone.. but if in the area do visit..Had some very fresh and delicious carambols in the stalls around.

An historically important place and all odias must visit at least once.The stone inscriptions are mind boggling.Do make a visit its worth your time and money.If you are a history loving person then what are you waiting for? This is the place where time has ceased moving.

Such a beautiful place where you can feel so much happiness and peace. This place is located at the height and best is that to visit this place by your vehicle.There is a pay and park facility available and you can dump your luggage as well after paying for it. To reach the actual stupa you have to walk and climb, the stupa is very beautiful and well maintained.You can see various life lessons of Lord Buddha on the walls of the stupa, from the backside of the temple you can get a stunning view of the city.
