If you are a Hindu and visiting Dhaka from any part of the world, you must visit this temple. If you are staying in far areas like Gulshan, you have to consider around 2 hours to reach due to crazy traffic. Better to avoid coming here after 4 and visit in the morning around 11.

Dhakeshwari National Temple (Bengali: ঢাকেশ্বরী জাতীয় মন্দির, romanized: Ðhakeshshori Jatio Mondiris a Hindu temple in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is state-owned, giving it the distinction of being Bangladeshs National Temple. The name "Dhakeshwari" (ঢাকেশ্বরী Ðhakeshshorimeans "Goddess of Dhaka". It is also the largest Hindu temple in Bangladesh. This temple is part of the famous Shakti Peethas in Indian Subcontinent. It is considered an essential part of Dhakas cultural heritage. Many researchers believe that the temple is also one of the Shakti Peethas, where the jewel from the crown of the Goddess Sati had fallen. For ages, the temple has been held in great importance. The original 800-year-old murti was taken to Kumartuli, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. During the partition of India, she was brought to Kolkata from Dhaka with millions of refugees. By 1950, the businessman Debendranath Chaudhary built the temple of Goddess in Kumortuli area and established some of the Goddess property for her daily services. The idol is 1.5 feet tall, has ten arms, mounted on her lion in the form of Katyani Mahishasurmardini Durga. On her two sides are Laxmi, Saraswati, Kartik and Ganesh. A Tiwari family from Azamgarh was appointed by the royal family for daily worship of the deity. In 1946, the descendants of that family came to Calcutta and were re-appointed, where they still serve the Goddess continuously.Current presiding deity here in Dhakeshwari Temple is the replica of the original idol. In KolkataReplicaReplica: The Goddess statue at the Dhakeshwari TempleDhakeswori Mata Idol in Kolkata and DhakaIt is widely believed that the Queen, wife of King Bijoy Sen went to Langolbond for bathing. On her way back she gave birth to a son, known to historians as Ballal Sen. After ascending to the throne, Ballal Sen built this temple to glorify his birthplace. Legends say that Ballal Sen once dreamt of the deity covered under the jungle. Ballal Sen uncovered the deity from there and built a temple, named for Dhakeswari. Whatever the legends describe, Hindus consider Dhakeswari to be the presiding deity of Dhaka, which is an incarnation or form of Goddess Durga the Adi Shakti. The idol of Durga is called Dhakeswari

Its a temple.. I am no one to give a rating but still rated the Top... However, note even though the temple has a strong value for Indian culture and belief, dont expect temple to be crowded like in India. Its less crowded and well maintained

A place of utmost happiness. A place which calms down the restless minds. A place that gives mental peace. This is a National Temple. Most of the Hindu devotees of Dhaka prioritises this Temple over others. There are stalls inside the temple from where one can buy offerings and other commodities often required in different rituals and religious activities.

I had gone there after 19 years last Friday. The temple is neat and clean and was having weekly program of Santoshi Ma pooja. This surprised me as I never knew that this diety is worshipped even in Bangladesh. Local disciples interacted gently with me. Only the priest was a bit harsh. I feel the history in brief should be there written on a small board and displayed for outsiders.

The Dhakeshwari (Durgatemple was built in the 12th century by Ballal Sen, a king of the Sena dynasty, and it is said that the city of Dhaka was named after the Goddess. In 1996, Dhakeshwari Temple was renamed Dhakeshwari Jatiya Mandir (National Templereflecting its position as the center of Hindu culture and worship in Bangladesh. Historically, several of the temple custodians were tortured and killed by the Army. However, most, including the Head Priest, fled to their ancestral villages and then to India and escaped death. It was severely damaged during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, and over half of the temples buildings were destroyed. The main worship hall was taken over by the Pakistan Army and used as an ammunition storage area. In 2018, Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina visited the Dhakeshwari Temple and announced the gifting of adjacent land to the temple authorities. Previously, the temple lost a lot of its property to land grabbing.

It is the National Temple of Bangladesh. I love to visit there. Whenever I visit to Dhaka I try to make a visit here. This temple is enough spacious for all the rituals. This place is very famous to Banglali Hindus. It is one of a Shakti peeth of Sanatani Mythology. People can find the Durga temple while enter into the temple. The main temple is inward. There is enough place for worship and many religions occasions are held in the temple. There are four temples for lord Shiva besides the main temple. The area contains a medium sized pond which enhances the beauty of the temple. The worship is arranged in a regular basis in the morning and evening. There are many temporary small shops and carts for selling goods used in worship. This place is a peaceful place and I love to visit.

Temple: HinduismOne of the oldest and most popular temples in Dhaka.Dhakeshwari, meaning “The Hidden Goddess”, whose shrine is located in the western part of the city is credited by some for giving the city its name. There are several myths on the origin of the name Dhaka. One is that the name came following the establishment of Dhakeshwari temple by Raja Ballal Sena in the 12th century and Dhakeswari is the name of Goddess Durga. While others say that Dhakeshwari stands the meaning of Goddess of Dhaka; so the temple must have been named after the region. The instructions at the temple premises sayAroti @ 7.00AMTemple Closed 2.00-4.00 PM & after 9.00 PM
