Devour Madrid Food Tours - Tapas Tours & Wine Tours - Sightseeing Tour Agency in Carabanchel, Spain
We enjoyed the Madrid tapas & history tour in September 2022. We are a mother daughter duo and we thoroughly enjoyed this experience. We were a fun group of 9, guided by Isaac….from Detroit….living in Spain for 9 years now. Isaac is clearly a history buff and we loved that element of the tour. The food stops were just perfect for us and included sampling the most delicious deep friend codfish, vermouth (which I thought I disliked but was wrong), gambas al ajillo, pimientos de Padron, stuffed mushrooms, grilled asparagus, Galician crepes, tinto de verano, vino and / or beer. It was a memorable, fun night! A special thank you to Anthony from Jersey now in Jupiter Florida…..such a kind yet hysterical young man who ensured that my mother was managing ok given some mobility issues!
Excellent way to start your trip in Madrid. Good tour of the city centre with practical information. Sean was a great host.Visited great tapas places that came to the equivalent of a full meal.
Fabulous experience! Our guide Arantxa was very engaging and informative. She gave us a great insight into Spanish culture and lifestyle. Her knowledge as a trained chef was invaluable. Would DEFINITELY recommend it
Arantxa lamas was my tour guide this morning at the ultimate Spanish cuisine tour! She is really nice and enthusiastic. She knows a lot and is a professional chef! Unfortunately I was send to the wrong location due to Get your Guide but it isn’t any of her or devour s fault. Unfortunately the tour was already sold out for today at their regular website but I’d recommend that!
Our family took the breakfast/lunch food tour today. Our guide, Flo, was high energy and knowledgeable. She made the experience a great one. Tour had the perfect amount of food and drink. Food was delicious at each stop. Our family of 5 all enjoyed it very much! Good amount of waking in between. Flo added many historical facts and info about Madrid along the way. Highly recommend.
We had a fantastic time with Issac on our tour. He was very knowledgeable in history and food. He made the experience a memorable one. My absolute favorite was the stop where we had the mushrooms (the most delicious tapa ever!!!). We spent four hours walking, talking, learning and eating. It was wonderful! If youre headed to Spain you should consider doing this first. Itll give you a foundation on the food scene and culture in Madrid or anywhere they offer these tours!
We did a Tapas Tour with Isaac on our first night in Madrid. It was the perfect blend of history, sites, delicious food, and socializing with other adventurous travelers. Isaac was informative, engaging, and fun. The tapas bars he took us to were excellent and he even gave us recommendations for our stay in Madrid and beyond. It was a wonderful introduction to Madrid. Highly recommend Isaac and the tour!!
We did the market tour and Spanish food cooking experience through Devour today and really enjoyed it. In particular, the guide and the chef were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions from anyone on the tour. The market we went to today (Anton Martinwas a good mix of trendy/accessible and authentic, and they accommodated a food allergy for one of the people in our party during the cooking experience. Highly recommend Devour if youre thinking about booking experiences in Madrid.
What a great way to get oriented to a new city as with my first time in Madrid! Food, drink and history from a knowledgeable, energetic and friendly (and funnyguide like Flo!
The booking process was so easy, and the tour was fantastic! Our guide was knowledgeable and an absolute delight. Will do a devour tour in every city theyre available
Unfortunately we left the tapas tour disappointed for wasting our time and hungry.A tour defined as a food tour and in it’s description - “after a busy day relaxing between bars”- we practically found ourselves running from one end of Madrid to the other. The places were all very touristy, and not hidden gems of the locals as we expected. In the first place we drank a glass of vermouth and had empanada, in the second place we drank tinto de verano and had stuffed mushrooms and pimientos, in the third place we drank wine and had garlic shrimp and in the fourth place we had an option for drinks between wine and beer and had asparagus, potato, Lacon and a crepe for dessert.None of the dishes was mouthwatering or something to savor. the portions were small (a single portion for a couple or a portion for fourand we finished the tour hungry, searching a place to eat at 23:30…which is absurd. As we had one of the dishes few hours earlier (and did not like itwe asked to replace it but encountered a very rigid answer that the dishes on the tour cannot be replaced to a different one from the menu.To sum our experience- this is a historical tour with food stops, which in our opinion was not tasty, touristic places and small portions. The only bright aspect of the experience were the nice people we encountered.
A great way to get to know the city a little better. Our guide was terrific: friendly, knowledgeable, personable, and took the trouble to find gluten-free alternatives for me. We visited a good number of interesting places and were well-fed by the end of the tour. I highly recommend this tour.
The Ultimate Spanish Cuisine Tour of Madrid was excellent! Oliver was a terrific guide and gave great insights into Spanish cuisine, history, culture, and life while making sure we were all well fed and happy. We visited plenty of bars, cafes, and market stalls and got great suggestions of what to see, do, and eat in Madrid while having delicious food and drinks.
We had an enriching and satisfying experience with our Guide Paula. She was both knowledgeable and entertaining. The food was also great, highly recommended tour.
Our Madrid Food and History tour was absolutely amazing. Our tour guide, “Isaach” was superb. We were in a tour group of the best 12 people ever. Thank you Devour Tours for exceeding our expectations and helping us to meet new friends.
Carolyn, who was our guide for the day time food tour, was passionate and informative about both local food and wines as well as a great communicator and engaging. She also balanced the tour well with food stops, walking and history lessons. Enjoyed the small, family owned businesses we visited.
We recently completed the Madrid Tapas and Flamenco Tour and had an incredible evening with Arantxa, our guide, and a small group of six. It was a great way to learn about the history and artistry of Flamenco, as well as a deep dive into Tapas culture in Spain. We met the local artisans that make the shoes and guitars used in Flamenco and details to watch for during the show that make it a special event. We enjoyed a tasty sampling of Spanish cheeses and meats with a delicious choice of wine in a histor, family-owned shop. We found Arantxa to be extremely knowledgeable during the tour, and would highly recommend booking with her during your time in Madrid. Thank you Devour Tours and Arantxa for enhancing our stay in Madrid! Olé!
Our tour guide Yvonne was wonderful. Our tour took us through beautiful Madrid to many wonderful spots. The thing we love most about a food tour is that it gives you a lovely snap shot of great local spots, some history of the city you are visiting, and a smattering of different kinds of foods to experience. This tour was no exception. The food was everything from familiar to unique. It challenged our taste buds with some unexpected treats. We LOVED the calamari sandwich off Plaza Mayor and drooled over the chorizo stuffed roll. Our tour guide was simply lovely. She was educated about the spots, and it was nice to see her so familiar with the vendors. It ensured that she too loved the spots we were visiting. We had a small group of 4 which made the tour feel private and intimate. She was very accommodating to our questions about Madrids food beyond the tour and had great life experiences to share. I particularly enjoy it when a guide takes an opportunity to eat at a couple of the spots with you. It feels so personal to share a meal with a local. We left STUFFED and headed right back to the hotel for a nap. It was a wonderful way to spend the late morning and early afternoon to explore Madrid.
Definitely a must do if you want Madrids history and food scene in a nutshell!
This tour was exactly what we were hoping for. Our guide, Yvonne was extremely knowledgable in the history of the area and did an excellent job keeping our group of history fanatics engaged. Every stop for food was an excellent choice that we would be happy to revisit. The evening ended alongside another tour that wrapped up a little before ours and their guide, Carolyn joined in our conversation making it an even more special evening. I dont know what time we were supposed to finish, but Im sure we kept the guides out later than they were scheduled. Not only did we learn about some of the history of Madrid and the great food offerings, but also. made two new friends. We will definitely look into booking additional tours with them.
This tour was fantastic and our guide David was great! I will recommend this tour to everyone coming to Madrid. David was funny, super knowledgeable and just fun to be with. We ate a bunch of great food, we drank vermut, Cava, white wine, red wine, beer, hot chocolate and coffee! We learned so much about the food, the people and the city! Super happy!
Carolyn provided an amazing tour experience! All of the tapas dishes were excellent and she tied in a lot of interesting history along the way. We’ll definitely do other tours with Devour!!
Hands down our family’s favorite tour in Madrid. I had 6 people including 3 teenagers (18, 16 and 14and grandma with us too. History, good food, good drinks and good company. Thank you Carolyn for a memorable night where we made new friends, taught my 82 year old mother how to take a selfie and tried new foods. Loved the sweetbread! There is a lot walking and it was a little far for my mother who occasionally has trouble keeping up, but it was her favorite tour too. Thank you all for a great Tapas and Taverns tour and a memorable night!
My daughter and I truly enjoyed our Madrid Ultimate Spanish Cuisine Tour with Yvonne. She was knowledgable about the history and guided us to each stop providing background information to enhance our experience. We got to taste a variety of gastronomical treats, some new to us and for others learning about a new location or source such as the cheese selection below from the wonderful Casa Gonzalez celebrating their 90th anniversary at 12, Calle del Leon. Highly recommended for a treat for all the senses.
I went on three Devour food tours on my recent trip to Madrid and Sevilla and they were all fantastic. If you have an opportunity to take a Devour tour, do it! I had so much fun on this tapas tour with Jackie in Madrid. She was fantastic. The family run places we visited were great and the food delicious. Thank you Jackie for a memorable night!
I loved it! My time in Madrid was very short and this was the perfect tour to combine a visit to the city centre, get some history, and enjoy some really good food. David was a great guide and I totally recommend this experience!
Cait is a super-knowledgeable guide. She was able to show us interesting, unique ands delicious places, and the tour was over before we knew it. Devour Tours is a great way to see Madrid.
Carolyn was amazing! She was very knowledgeable about Madrid and the entire tour was very entertaining. I enjoyed the group I was with and although I came solo, I didn’t feel left out at all. Everyone was friendly and the tapas we tasted were good as well. Never heard of vermouth before but it was very tasty. I would definitely recommend Carolyn as the tour guide.
The History and Tapas tour was terrific. Carolyn, our guide was charming, amusing and informative. She engaged the group and we all had a marvelous time. It was definitely a highlight of our trip to Madrid. Her suggestions for food and wine were outstanding. I am a vegetarian and she made sure there was always something delicious for me to enjoy.
We did the tapas and taverns tour in Madrid and had a great time. Jackie was not only gave a good tour and but was super fun to chat with and my wife loved her. She took us to some great spots and the gambas ajillo we had that night was the best of our trip in Spain. The food, the wine, and the laughs did not stop for the 4+ hour tour. Devour is less like taking a guided tour and more like visiting a friend who is has been living in the city years. Highly recommended!
While we wandered the streets of Madrid earlier in the day and thoroughly enjoyed taking in the city, this tour truly introduced us to Madrid. Arantxa was the perfect guide to share her city, the history, and cuisine with us. We loved learning what the buildings were that we wondered about earlier and learning a taste of the Madrid’s rich history. The best was the incredible tapas and drinks at each stop! It was a gift to have an expert order for us and to experience some of the best. Devour ensured that dietary accommodations were made for us, since we had a non-seafood eater in our group. Devour exceeded our expectations and we are already planning a Barcelona Devour tour in 2023!
The whole tour was such an amazing experience, if your in Madrid you must do have this experience!Arantxa was an excellent guide, friendly, so enthusiastic, so knowledgeable and just a delight to spend time with. The tour was so much more than just go here, eat this, Arantxa didnt stop telling us so much about Madrid, its history and the Spanish way of life. The places we went to were so interesting, and authentic as well as away from the typical tourist traps. The food was varied and excellent, accompanied by lovely drinks and all explained with Arantxas expert knowledge. If were ever in Madrid, we will be doing another tour, no question.Thank you so much Arantxa, you made our trip so interesting and special.
The Devour Ultimate Food Tour was a great tour with a smaller group by Oliver. We had done this tour two years earlier but it was definitely worth doing again since theyve modified the tour quite a bit. Wonderful tour providing an interesting variety of food including chocolate, ham, cheese, olives, olive oil, wines, deserts. Take it early in your travels to Madrid to get a good overview of where to go as well as personal recommendations from our tour guide, Oliver. Were actually taking two Devour food tours this trip to Madrid.
Today I had the chance to experience an amazing food tour in Madrid thanks to Devour and our awesome tour guide Oliver. It was an adventurous, informative, and tasty tour through beautiful Madrid neighborhoods and delicious local restaurants. So grateful for the experience would definitely do it again!!
I did the tapas tour in Madrid with Sean and Barcelona with Dom and both were great experiences. Great way to learn about the history and try some amazing food. This was great for me as a solo traveler as I got to meet other people and try a lot more types of tapas than I would have been able to on my own.
To describe this experience solely as a food tour would be an injustice! Our Devour Madrid Tapas and Taverns Tour was phenomenal in equal parts due to the delicious gastronomy as well as the capable and charismatic guide SEAN RETANA! My family is Cuban-American, and upon meeting Sean we assumed that he was an Irishman due to his perfect English and delightful accent. We were astounded when he switched seamlessly to Spanish, explaining that while one of his parents hails from Ireland, he grew up in Spain and is a proud Madrileño through and through. During the tour, we scarfed down crispy Cod Empanadas (paired with Spanish Sweet Vermouth on tapat TABERNA REAL; annihilated some Grilled Mushrooms and Flash-fried Padrón Peppers (washed down with refreshing Tinto de Veranoat MESON DEL CHAMPINON; basked in the splendor of the most tender, melt-in-your-mouth Garlic and Chili Shrimp (accompanied by your choice of a red or white wine from the restaurant owner’s own vineyard); and laid waste to a seemingly endless series of tapas and drinks at CASA TONI. Sean was personable and professional from start to finish, careful to pay special attention to any dietary restrictions, preferences, and allergies. Because he had coordinated everything in advance, the tour unfolded effortlessly: reserved, pre-set tables awaited our group upon our arrival, and sizzling food was promptly offered. As he guided us through the city, Sean’s deep well of historical knowledge and passion for Spain’s culture shone through. He not only regaled us on the history of the taverns we visited, but also made several stops along the way to tell us interesting stories about monuments, historical edifices, and Madrid’s complex history. The tour felt as though a true Madrileño had hosted us in his beloved city for a night, and it was an experience we will relish for years to come! Thank you, Sean! ~ The Albelo Family
The Tapas, Taverns & History Tour in Madrid with Carolyn was one of the best if not the best tour I have been on. Carolyn is a natural born storyteller. There was never a point in the tour where I felt learning about the history of Madrid was ever boring. She is engaging, funny, and personable. It as if we were meeting up with and old friend. We went to several local tapas bars, and each place had a specialty that they excelled in. Every place had its own charm and history and the food was so good that at the end of the night we couldn’t rate which place we liked best. Plates were empty and bellies were full. Would definitely recommend!
This is THE BEST THING TO DO IN MADRID by far. Since 2009, i have made 12 trips to Madrid and have fallen head over heels for the city. We have done all of the tours and attractions more than a few times, but I can promise you that nothing comes close to our Devour tours experiences. The guides are more than kind and really fun to walk around with. Because tour groups are small, weve made friends on every tour and met up with several even after our tour was over. And, we ate such good food! It was unbelievable! Nearly every site from our Tapas tour has become a must-visit for every time we come to the city. I still cant believe how much fun we had and how much we ate for the price. It really is beyond a good value. Also, the team has always been amazing to work with. I have had to change bookings a couple of times or call with questions and theyve always been more than accommodating. In fact, the way I saw my tour guides handle food allergies and aversions was really masterful. Overall, I cannot recommend this more and I cant wait to get back to Madrid to try another tour.
I have used Devour tours in the past while visiting several different cities in Spain. The fact that they focus on supporting small local businesses shows that they truly love the communities they serve. They make an effort to promote responsible tourism and I like that. Plus the tours are wonderful: educational and delicious! I really appreciate that during the pandemic they have created online experiences. They are interactive and fun and are bringing the world to me until I can travel again.
We really enjoyed the online Spanish Olive Oil experience. It was informative and interesting. Having done a Devour food tour in Seville 2 years ago, I wondered how the online experience would compare, relatively speaking of course. I was pleasantly surprised - they managed to make it interactive and engaging - it was fun.
I had the great pleasure of attending Arantxa’s on-line cooking class where she made a delightful Spanish paella. Her steps to making this delicious dish were easy to follow and a joy to watch. What sets Arantxa apart from any other chef’s instruction that I’ve seen before is that she is also an educator. She isn’t simply putting together ingredients and showing you how to cook them, but she speaks of the background of where the dish came from, how some ingredients are harvested, what to avoid adding as to not compromise the flavor of the dish, and her preferred choice of items used to enhance the quality of the final product. My palette, along with my mind, were totally engaged in the process. She illuminates with her knowledge but also inspires you with her talent. Add to her skill that she also has a charming and relatable personality, and you can’t help but want to book another cooking class very soon. The only disappointment was that I couldn’t eat that awesome paella she prepared, but I am now inspired to make my own.
This was our first Devour tour and it exceeded all expectations. Our guide was so friendly and informative. We were sort of lucky in the sense that we happened to be the only 2 people that signed up for that day, but we still got the full private tour! The food stops themselves were all incredible. Now I try to book a Devour tour whenever I go to a city that has one because they are such a fun and stress-free way to get the best tastes that the city has to offer and learn a lot of history and culture at the same time. Thank you Devour!
Drinks were good. Food was great. Carolyn was fantastic! This tour was the best four hours we had in Madrid. We even went back to three of the four places we had been on the tour the following day. The fried cod was probably our favorite but the shrimp, mushrooms and padron peppers were also delicious. We loved Carolyn and she totally made the tour great. She was SO GOOD in fact that we immediately booked another Devour tour in Barcelona on the next leg of our trip. Thank you for the memories!
Great Guide, Great Food, Great Tour!Thank you Claire!!! If this one of the best walking / food tours I have ever done. We had a great guide and really felt like one of the locals out on a Friday night. We got to experience some amazing tapas. It was a great chance to try things we might not normally try. We drank some very nice local wine and got a history lesson along the way. Because the groups are small, it is a great way to meet other people. I would highly recommend this. You will not be disappointedFull disclosure..I wrote the same thing in my TripAdvisor review...dont wont anyone to think this is a fake review
We took this tour on our first full day in Madrid and it was a great decision. It gave us a great overview of the food of Madrid and we also got a good lay of the land and learned some history along the way. Cait was an awesome tour guide and I learned a lot. I highly recommend this tour.
Three from three! After Devour Tours in Barcelona and San Sebastian - Donostia came the Tapas/Flamenco tour and it did not disappoint. Fantastic food (again!and Paula was a fabulous, knowledgeable and most entertaining host who was warmly welcomed at all venues. The flamenco experience is well worth it. Highly recommend!
We thoroughly enjoyed - savored, indeed, devoured! - our Madrid Neighborhood Tour with Devour Tours. The small group lent itself to a personal and personable experience. We loved walking along the literary neighborhood of Cervantes, sampling foods from olive oils to olives to hams to breads to cheeses. We particularly appreciate Devours dedication to the family-owned and independent shops. All of us, by going on these Tours, help the small businesses stay thriving. We learned so much and loved every moment.
Tour guide Tania hosted a really fun evening comprised of about 10 people (3 couples and a family of 4). We started with classic Bacalao (cod frittersand vermut (a white wine infused with caramel and a range of spices and botanicals - not at all like the vermouth you put in a martini or Manhattan), and while walking from tapas bar to tapas bar Tania pointed out sites and provided historical context. At other places we had gambas al ajillo (shrimp sauteed in garlic and olive oil), killer mushrooms (seriously!and peppers, and braised beef cheek (though they can accommodate vegetarians and pescatarians), all paired with Spanish wines - including our intro to "tinto de verano" or a "summer red wine" cut with either sparkling water or citrus soda, which is way more common than sangria among non-tourists. This was our first tour of this kind and we enjoyed it a lot as both a learning and gastronomic experience.
Madrid: Huertas Neighborhood Food & Market Tour on Saturday, July 6 2019 @ 10:00am - 1:00pm with Ariana was such a pleasant experience. First we started the day with Porras at Chocolat. Next was Moeba with fresh bread, empanadas, and many more delicious treats. Then we hit the markets tasting all sorts of goodness. Last was tapas and cheesecake. Ariana was so full of energy and history about the area and timeframe around the author of Don Quixote who is buried in a nearby convent. Superb!
We have often found that you get what you pay for on guided tours. Am very happy to say that the food tapas and history tour from Devour was worth every penny. Ewan our tour guide was clearly very knowledgeable on his subject, but just as importantly has a genuine enthusiasm for introducing us to a selection of the best individual tapas joints in Madrid. The tour is a good walk carefully interspersed with stops at great places for food and drink. Ultimately we settled down to a good hour of varied tapas and drinks as our final stop. There may well be other tours available but I know who I will chose next time. Thoroughly recommended. In fact we took the food and wine tasting tour the next night. No overlap and a different guide. Just as good, although to be picky we drank wine rather than tasting it and learning a bit as I had expected. Still a thoroughly enjoyable evening though.
